The Warfighter Podcast is back for very special mini-season looking at FPV (First Person View) drones and their impact in the modern battlefield.Even the most casual observer of recent conflicts will be aware of the impact that low-cost, consumer drones and home-built FPVs have been making across conflict zones. It's likely that their impact is here to stay and militaries are mobilising for the use of these drones, as well as working out how to counter them.Karl Eze formally served with the British Army and is now the founder of a company that specialises in the development and deployment of unmanned systems. He is also the chair of RADRA - the Royal Artillery Drone Racing Association. Karl provides a background to the evolution of FPV drones and discusses how the skills and capabilities are being developed through drone racing, and events such as MIDRT - Military International Drone Racing Tournament, which is being held in London this month. We cover as much as we can is a short period, as the evolution of FPV drones is clearly a fascinating area, which we hope to uncover over the next couple of episodes.Hosts:Tom Constable: www.linkedin.com/in/tom-constable/ Colin Hillier: www.linkedin.com/in/colinhillier/Guests:Karl Eze: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karl-eze/Links:MIDRT: https://www.midrt.com/Website: www.warfighterpodcast.com/LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/warfighter-digital/YouTube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCkgiH-cwmyc2I2Iyc8MLYtgTwitter: twitter.com/WarfighterPodEpisode Sponsor: MiDRT 24 (Military International Drone Racing Tournament)The Military International Drone Racing Tournament (MIDRT) 2024 is a major event in London from September 16-20, bringing together military personnel, skilled in first-person view (FPV) drone racing. In this week's Chubstep Steed attempted and failed to have Chat GPT write his content for him while Jrad came with the freshest topics in the podcasting world on August 15th 2024. The guys discuss breakdancing being eliminated from the Olympics with an interesting performance from Raygun, what the real Modern Pentathlon would look like based on Steed's Army experience including hiding from your superior officer to get out of tasks, strange laws around the world with bad punchlines, a lady playing ‘Stacey's Mom' on a park bench alone, first world problems with bad punchlines, being named after unfortunate people, and a conspiracy theory with bad punch lines.
Chris and Will are taking you into the heart of day fifteen and sixteen of Olympic highlights, with coverage of Basketball, Football, Breaking, Modern Pentathlon, and Weightlifting.
The Olympics have been long-regarded by many as the pinnacle of global athletic competition, with the world's fastest sprinters, strongest lifters, and most agile gymnasts taking the center stage. But have the Olympics also featured contests that are a little... strange? On the latest episode of 4Thirty, Ben and Pat grab the torch and discuss some of the oddest events to be featured in the Olympics, from quirky on-off competitions that didn't quite stick the landing, to others that are still (somehow) featured in the games today. The guys also bring their usual dose of bargain-bin news stories to the table this week as they speculate on the future of the Olympics, and advocate for other events to be included down the road. Is the 'Modern Pentathlon' the strangest event still included in the Olympics today? Were animals harmed in the making of the 1900 Paris Olympics? Should 'tug-of-war' make a reemergence into the Summer games? Was Bigfoot accidentally caught on camera in a decades-old Canadian nature documentary? For answers to these questions and a decathlon more, please give the latest episode of 4Thirty in the Morning a listen!
Travis talks about the pentathlon and how he's amazed by it. Do you know what that is? Is Lincoln Riley the opposite of what Sean McVay is? and how far behind is USC in bulking up their team? Corporate Greg joins us for another OLYMPIC MEDAL COUNT UPDATE brought to you you by PECHANGA. Time for HOT N COLD presented by NEXGEN. The Paris Olympics are in full swing... and David is obsessed with the Modern Pentathlon. It's fencing, swimming, equestrian and running/shooting also called the "laser run!"
On this week's episode of The Underdog, your hosts Chris Horwedel and Matt Crone talk about the sudden downturn of the Philadelphia Phillies and quite a bit about the ongoing Paris Olympics, including learning what a pentathlon is, the outrage over beach volleyball players wearing leggings, swimmers swimming in polluted water, an Olympian from Turkey who has won our hearts, and a lot more.

We talk a lot about more nations getting involved with sports, or smaller nations having more presence at an Olympics or Paralympics. For a nation to be at the Games, they need to have a national governing body in the sport – but what does it take to start one? On this episode we're talking with skeleton athlete Shannon Galea, who has dual citizenship with Canada and Malta, and who founded the Maltese Bobsled and Skeleton Federation with hopes of qualifying for the Olympics. In our Albertville 1992 history moment, Alison found a competitor who went on to have some notoriety in life. A lot's been happening in TKFLASTAN too. We've got updates from: Andras Toro Evan Dunfee Ness Murby Michelle Carter DeAnna Price Mallory Comerford Nick Zaccardi Ginny Thrasher The Modern Penthathlonovela has an update too - and this is getting to be a very slick TV production, which is quite fitting for a telenovela-esque situation. We also have updates from Paris 2024 and lots of news on Milan-Cortina 2026, namely budget woes (who's surprised at this?) and the announcement of the sports program....which does have more equality for women, but not for our very own Annika Malacinski. Finally, Spain's out of the running for hosting the 2030 Winter Olympics, and the USOPC gives reasons why Salt Lake City might also not be selected to host those Games, even though they are ready and willing for whenever the IOC needs them. After plenty of British success at the Olympics - the future of the Modern Pentathlon is in question. Elly Oldroyd takes Aimee Fuller and Mark Hunter, both Olympic medallists themselves, to try out the disciplines. They find out how a sport under pressure is having to change to keep its place in The Games and how the proposed removal of horse riding would mean defending champion Joe Choong is done with the sport after Paris 2024.
On Episode 51 we have GB Agegroup Triathlete and former GB Pentathlon athlete Matt BarnesHeres Matts Story:I started out as a swimmer from being about 8 years of age. I was ok, club/county standard. However, my swimming club had a biathlon club attached to it (run/swim competitions) and I was a better runner than swimmer. From 11 I gradually picked up the other events of the Modern Pentathlon - shooting, swimming and horse-riding, until I was doing full Pentathlons at 16. I started taking the sport more seriously at University and won my first international appearance in 1997. From then I competed at 2 European Championships and 3 World Championships as a Pentathlete. My last year in the sport was 2002, when I was National Champion and finished 24th at worlds. In 2002 I started my job as a lawyer, working in the sports industry, so retired from Pentathlon and decided to focus on just running. I became a 1500m runner and my best year was 2007 when I made the National final, ran 3.42 and a sub 4 mile. I moved up to 5000m a year or so after that and ran a 13.58 5,000m and got a Great Britain vest on the road. From my md thirties I suffered with a few injuries and was back in the pool trying to keep fit and also doing a bit of cycling, but nothing structured. Alongside my running, I entered a few triathlons from about 2016 and in 2017 I went to the world standard distance champs in Rotterdam and got a bronze in the 40-44 age group. In 2018 I also won a silver at the european sprint. I was still also competing as a runner and in 2019 I won the european 1500m title as a v40 in Italy.Obviously the last couple of years have been hugely disrupted with COVID. I have also had some medical advice that I have to run a lot less as I had a hip operation in 2015 and my cartliage has degenerated more since then. However, I have started working with a coach to improve my bike, which is my weakest event and have seen some big gains this winter. My run is also still holding up so I am hopeful of medals in Munich and Montreal at this year's sprint distance europeans and worlds respectively.Link to Presca Sportswear https://www.prescasportswear.comYou can listen to this AMP episode and all the others on most podcast platforms and now we a have our own YouTube channel : AMP GBFind us on Instagram amp_1967Twitter agegroupmultisportpodcastFacebook AMPGBYouTube AMP GBWebsite is : agegroupmultisportpodcast.buzzsprout.comemail: agegroupmultisportpodcast

The Modern Pentathlon has long included the five sports running, swimming, shooting, fencing and horseback riding. But times have changed, and equestrian has been dumped and replaced by 'obstacle racing' in a move that's upset many athletes.
Aging is an inevitable part of life. But just because we get older doesn't mean we have to stop doing the physical activities and sports we love, get injured, or accept the role of geriatric couch potato. Dr. Stone is a world-renowned expert in sports medicine and orthopaedics, and his work at The Stone Clinic as an orthopaedic surgeon and in the field of joint replacement and treatment has resulted in 50 patents and various publications, grants, and awards. He's also the Chairman of the Stone Research Foundation, which is a non-profit that pushes forward the science of accelerating healing and treating injured joints. Beyond the operating room, Dr. Stone also has expertise and practical knowledge from working with athletes of all types and ages. He's worked with the US Ski Team, the US Pro Ski Tour, the Marin Ballet, the Smuin Ballet, the Modern Pentathlon at the US Olympic Festival, and the US Olympic Training Center. And his new book, Play Forever, is all about staying injury-free and helping you do what you love until age 100 and beyond. In our discussion, Dr. Stone and I talk about . . . Listening to your body and knowing the difference between bad pain and soreness The field of stimulating the body to accelerate healing, particular in regards to joints "Joint nutrition" like lubrication, stem cells, and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatments How mindset impacts performance and injury Using injury to come back stronger Diet considerations while recovering from injury or surgery And more . . . In an episode released on August 12, we addressed the troubling display of poor riding during the equestrian portion of the Modern Pentathlon with Rick Maynard, Tik Maynard, and Peter Holmes - all of whom have been very involved in the sport either currently or previously. Now, we're following up and seeing what's in the works. What proposed changes are coming down the pipeline to help Modern Pentathlon evolve into a sport that can support good riding, good horsemanship, and reasonable expectations of those horses and riders? Are they enough? What aspects of the problem do they address? Canadian National Champion, Development Coach, and member of the Riding Working Task Force, Joshua Riker-Fox, joins us alongside fellow Canadian National Champion Pentathlete Tik Maynard. Along with host Caroline Culbertson, they discuss: - A look inside the proposed changes and what needs to happen next. - What we can learn about making change in our own sports and disciplines. - A case for keeping the equestrian portion in Modern Pentathlon - Personal reflections on how changes happen in sport, who is in charge of them, and what the equestrian community can learn from this turning point in MP.
The show jumping portion of the women's modern pentathlon at the Tokyo Olympics is making headlines - and not in a good way. It was so stressful to watch, there were many rider falls, and lots of stressed out horses who clearly didn't understand what was expected of them. How do we make heads and tails of this? Are there solutions? Host Caroline Culbertson is joined by Tik Maynard, Rick Maynard, and Peter Holmes - who cumulatively have decades of experience in pentathlon as athletes, coaches or course designers - for a roundtable discussion in response to this troubling display of riding.
