Welcome to Part 2 of our agave spirit exploration! After attending Mezcal Lauderdale a few months ago, we are doing a deep dive of Mexican agave spirits (that aren't tequila) that we not only sampled at the event, but are also available for YOU to try here in Florida. There's a lot of great distilling history with these brands, and Michael will walk us through it all. We all struggle with procrastination, so if you're currently avoiding something, listening to this re-release of one of our greatest hits is a great way to not do whatever you're supposed to do! In this episode, Chris & Allison talk about the reasons why procrastination is so anxiety-inducing (and anxiety-perpetuating) and the psychology behind why we do it, even though we know it's so bad for us. Chris & Allison are both forgetful beings (see: the fact that Allison forgot to send the files to the editor after finishing recording, which is why this episode is a week later than usual.) And of course, that gives them a lot to be anxious about! In this episode, Chris & Allison discuss why forgetting things is particularly fraught for those with anxiety, and how to extend yourself grace about the things you forget, as well as why the anxious brain might be more forgetful than others. As the world starts to slowly inch its way back to the old normal, there are some things that Chris & Allison have to face that haven't been A Thing in over a year, like live music. While Chris is excited to start tapping his feet to the beat again, Allison has a little more trepidation and has to confront her fears of crowds and enthusiastic acoustic guitar players who make too much eye contact. If you think these two podcast hosts are the kind of people who can unwind and settle into a peaceful midday nap, it's probably your first time listening (in which case, hi!). Indeed, Chris & Allison are pathologically incapable of napping, and the sheer thought of it is enough to invoke a nervous tailspin or two. In this episode, they break down what it is about naps that make them so antsy and restless and give a few tips for other people who are constitutionally unable to relax. By now, you've probably realized that Chris & Allison can never resist any chance to get a little meta, and this episode is no exception. In this episode, Allison discusses her recent big change of moving back to the United States and the many identity crises that present along with it. Chris & Allison speak at length about the relationship between anxiety and change, particularly how we tend to ruminate on change for a long time before finally feeling secure to make it, and how we cope when change we weren't expecting is thrown our way. It's a little heavier than usual, but Allison's jet lag means things never veer too serious. Governments are among the most complex organizations to transform in the digital age. Having large and diverse organizations, legacy systems, and established cultures, transformation can be particularly complex. Having effective learning opportunities is an essential component of this transformation as governments and their employees learn new ways of working and creating services for the public good. In this episode I'm joined by a leader in the Canadian Government who is leading the way in helping to improve digital literacy and skills across the Public Service. Chris Allison is the Director General at Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) where he has led the CSPS Digital Academy from the very start. The CSPS Digital Academy was established to help federal public servants gain the knowledge, skills and mindsets they need in the digital age. It supports Canada's initiative for an agile, inclusive and equipped workforce and advocates for a digital-first approach that aligns with Canada's Digital Standards. These ten digital standards form the foundation of the government's shift to becoming more agile, open and user-focused. Chris assembled a team of passionate public servants to form the CSPS Digital Academy, developing extremely popular learning experiences. I was fortunate to have worked with Chris at the CSPS Digital Academy and experience his leadership, insights and vision, which I am thrilled to have him share on this episode. In this episode I have the pleasure of talking with Head football coach of the Wichita Northwest High Grizzlies football team. We talked about the season as a whole and what it like to make it through the season in trying times, what his team can do to get more quality opponents and we even weighed in on some college football talk. The current bowl system, and The Brawl. Also talked with Former coach and now Keynote/Motivational Speaker Mark Potter who has traded in the sweats and sneakers and has answered his calling to speak on mental toughness, and depression and passionately bring awareness to this silent mental disease. Also my friend Chris Allison who I deem as someone who is part of the reason I'm doing what I'm doing. Chris was KGSO and there were a few times I sat in studio with him and a few times he would let me put on the headset. Chris & Allison tackle the anxieties of email, from the struggle of maintaining 'inbox zero' to the pressure to respond quickly to the way our email inboxes reflect our mental states. In this week's episode, Chris & Allison bemoan the yearly "falling back" and the end of Daylights Savings Time -- and the beginning of The Period of Darkness. They talk about the disorienting effects of a sudden time change on people with anxiety, how scientists all agree that Daylights Savings is trash, and how people with seasonal affective disorder and anxiety can approach the coming winter months with a little more self-compassion. They reference several articles in the episode: "A small Norwegian city might hold the answer to beating the winter blues" in The Conversation, "Daylight-saving time is deadly: Heart attacks and car crashes" in Business Insider, and "Is Daylight Saving Time to Blame for Seasonal Depression?" in Mental Floss, because they are People Who Read. Educators! This is the episode for you. Chris Allison is perhaps best known for touring the world as drummer of Plini, but he's both a highly skilled student and educator. Chris brewed his morning coffee and joined Matt, Jordan, and Justin from his home in Sydney, Australia. The front half of this conversation explores philosophies and methods of music education. But like most concepts the guys explore, the lessons can be extended far beyond music. Chris also shares about the ways he learned to adapt in his transition from educator at home to performer traveling the globe. Some of these concepts have more recently been applied to adapting to life in quarantine. The guys also dig into active listening, communication in relationships, learning to cook, having a purpose to get up in the morning, "and more." Spoiler Alert: Chris is also awarded "Best Mustache." Hello! Welcome to episode 16 of The Deconstructed Drummer Podcast. This is a conversation with Chris Allison, currently playing with Plini, Instrumental (Adj.), Mestis, SEIMS and many more! Chris was on the show waaaaay back on episode 7 with Taylor Douglas, and I've wanted to have him on as a solo guest ever since then. We drank coffee and rolled. Chris has some great touring stories, as well as a cracker about the first gig he did with Plini. A couple of weeks after we sat down for this conversation Plini released his "Sunhead" EP, which Chris was kind enough to play me after we recorded. Holy shit! Welcome to Episode 7! The first 3 way conversation on the Deconstructed Drummer. A lot less formal (and less polite) than a regular episode. If you like the format let me know. I had a blast as always doing this one (although not so much when I had to try and sort out the audio). In the sixth part of the series Cecily Liu goes down to Scotland Yard, the central command of London's metropolitan police to speak to Chris Allison, the National Olympic Security Coordinator from the Metropolitan Police. There she asks him about the main threats to the summer games and what measures the police are taking to make sure the event passes without incident.
