Alex Deken is a powerlifter and authentic legend. He is the head coach at PTC South Melbourne and 10th all-time powerlifter in the 90kg class. Yet despite these accolades, our episode took on a slightly different approach this week. The first time I met Alex was, as you'll see, on an unreleased episode of AdventureFit Radio. Alex spoke to us about his fear of public speaking or as he puts it, 'self expression'. Immediately after a panic attack, the vibe became authentic and purposeful. Myself, Alex and the other boys sat and spoke about the ways anxiety manifests itself within our worlds. A few months later, I was lucky enough to catch up with Alex for another chat focused more specifically on how both he and I deal with our fears (of public speaking among others) and how communicating, utilising subjective tools and practicing confidence as an adaptable mindset can make all the difference. Enjoy!
PRIORITISE HAPPINESS This week we had the pleasure of sitting down with entrepreneur Bill Kerr. As host of the popular AdventureFit Radio podcast Bill is no stranger to a microphone and the conversation shows. After wading through some mutual admiration and talk about life with dogs... we dive into a few in depth concepts such as the pursuit of happiness, A.I. and the actuality of being a business owner. We've been a fan of Bill and his podcast for some time, his specific essay question was: "The traveling entrepreneur, almost the perfect definition of someone who seeks total control of their life. As a business grows and time becomes more precious, that control slowly fades… How has trusting a virtual team altered the control you have of life and business?" Bill wants to change the world through Travel, Exercise and Mindfulness and it was a pleasure having someone on the show who can deliver his opinion, perspective and outrageous anecdotes all in one. Enjoy the Show. www: adventurefittravel.com IG: @thebillkerr, @adventurefitradio, @adventurefittravel Show Notes 00.00 : 02.52 - Introduction 02.53 : 03.53 - WWO Intro 03.54 : 10.50 - Ziggy, you know Ziggy Stardust. 10.51 : 14.54 - Introduction and Travel Mates 14.55 : 17.19 - Working on a Road Trip 17.20 : 25.07 - it wasn't planned, but for a love of travel 25.08 : 34.34 - Banter & Happiness & Best Mates 34.35 : 40.04 - Non-Negotiable Get Togethers 40.05 : 43.09 - The Earnest Side of Running a Travel Business 43.10 : 46.42 - Community is Necessity 46.43 : 50.59 - We Work Too Much 51.00 : 56.54 - Travel. Dianne McGrath is currently among the choice 100 in the world who will potentially be selected into a team of 4 people for the first one-way trip to Mars in 2026. In this episode, we discuss firstly Diane's role models, what kicked off her signup for the one-way mission to Mars and why she made the choice. The conversation goes into the nuances of interplanetary life and the science behind Mars as the top pick for the first space colony. They also talk about how the government structure will initially work in Mars once it’s actually there. Leadership and politics, ladies and gents! It gets more interesting as Dianne shares how the initial phases of living will be like on the planet, growing the human population, and how we could potentially harness the natural resources on Mars. She also outlines how food growing systems are to be integrated and what the top food picks are for living extraterrestrial life. Further, they talk about the possibility of encountering extraterrestrial life and what that potentially means for humanity in general, as well as terraforming Mars. Towards the end of the conversation, we learn more about Dianne’s methods on biohacking and how she does everything she can to maximize her life. Great thoughts packed in this throwback episode. We start off with the boys’ impressions and highlights about Iceland in light of the recently concluded trip. They share their experiences, after which Doc says that he takes much pride in what he’s started with AdventureFit. The topic shifts to a little bit on mental health, then Doc comes in about gut health and about how it’s all about making a positive impact on people’s lives. He also shares a convo he had with one of the trippers, Kelly, then moves onto talk about happiness and pleasure. From a young age he was always enthusiastic and passionate for physical activity, but it was his love for gymnastics, however, that would greatly shape his definition of hard work and determination. Doc starts us off with asking Carl about his background, as well as what brings him over to Australia. Carl then tells us about being a Movement Specialist, realizing the importance of media in growing his brand, and recounts his experience with CrossFit as well as having gone on the ADVF Bali trip this year. Doc asks Carl to share about his current and future plans, which leads to a question about how he manages so much with limited time. The discussion turns towards dealing with rough patches in life, the importance of reconnecting with yourself and about living in the moment. Great guest, great episode! Carl was an absolute gem to have, and he’s made many good and interesting points for you all to get some take aways. Enjoy the show, guys! The two get to talking about a Q&A with Gary Vaynerchuck, and about disconnecting on the weekends. Doc starts to talk about not wanting to document his life. They talk about what it means to become a person of interest and the changes in lifestyle that it entails.
