There is no evidence for the claim— just like there was zero evidence behind his claim that his loss in 2020 was stolen. The man Trump hired to find that evidence says the election was clean. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: The Dunning-Kruger of disproving Dunning-Kruger, published by kromem on May 18, 2024 on LessWrong. In an online discussion elsewhere today someone linked this article which in turn linked the paper Gignac & Zajenkowski, The Dunning-Kruger effect is (mostly) a statistical artefact: Valid approaches to testing the hypothesis with individual differences data (PDF) (ironically hosted on @gwern's site). And I just don't understand what they were thinking. Let's look at their methodology real quick in section 2.2 (emphasis added): 2.2.1. Subjectively assessed intelligence Participants assessed their own intelligence on a scale ranging from 1 to 25 (see Zajenkowski, Stolarski, Maciantowicz, Malesza, & Witowska, 2016). Five groups of five columns were labelled as very low, low, average, high or very high, respectively (see Fig. S1). Participants' SAIQ was indexed with the marked column counting from the first to the left; thus, the scores ranged from 1 to 25. Prior to providing a response to the scale, the following instruction was presented: "People differ with respect to their intelligence and can have a low, average or high level. Using the following scale, please indicate where you can be placed compared to other people. Please mark an X in the appropriate box corresponding to your level of intelligence." In order to place the 25-point scale SAIQ scores onto a scale more comparable to a conventional IQ score (i.e., M = 100; SD = 15), we transformed the scores such that values of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 were recoded to 40, 45, 50, 55, 60… 140, 145, 150, 155, 160. As the transformation was entirely linear, the results derived from the raw scale SAI scores and the recoded scale SAI scores were the same. Any alarm bells yet? Let's look at how they measured actual results: 2.2.2. Objectively assessed intelligence Participants completed the Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM; Raven, Court, & Raven, 1994). The APM is a non-verbal intelligence test which consists of items that include a matrix of figural patterns with a missing piece. The goal is to discover the rules that govern the matrix and to apply them to the response options. The APM is considered to be less affected by culture and/or education (Raven et al., 1994). It is known as good, but not perfect, indicator of general intellectual functioning (Carroll, 1993; Gignac, 2015). We used the age-based norms published in Raven et al. (1994, p. 55) to convert the raw APM scores into percentile scores. We then converted the percentile scores into z-scores with the IDF.NORMAL function in SPSS. Then, we converted the z-scores into IQ scores by multiplying them by 15 and adding 100. Although the norms were relatively old, we considered them essentially valid, given evidence that the Flynn effect had slowed down considerably by 1980 to 1990 and may have even reversed to a small degree since the early 1990s (Woodley of Menie et al., 2018). An example of the self-assessment scoring question was in the supplemental materials of the paper. I couldn't access it behind a paywall, but the paper they reference does include a great example of the scoring sheet in its appendix which I'm including here: So we have what appears to be a linear self-assessment scale broken into 25 segments. If I were a participant filling this out, knowing how I've consistently performed on standardized tests around the 96-98th percentile, I'd have personally selected the top segment, which looks like it corresponds to the self-assessment of being in the top 4% of test takers. Behind the scenes they would then have proceeded to take that assessment and scale it to an IQ score of 160, at the 99.99th percentile (no, I don't think that highly of myself). Even if I had been conservative with my self assessment and gone with what looks like the 92-96th pe...

Ken Block was surprised to get a phone call from an unfamiliar number one day after the 2020 election. It was a lawyer for Donald Trump's campaign, and he wanted to know if Block would search for evidence of fraud in the election. Block ran as a third party candidate for governor in 2010 and as a Republican in 2014. But he's also an expert in database technologies and data analytics -- and that's why the Trump campaign reached out to him. Block details his findings in a new book. So why has Trump not backed away from his lie about a stolen election? How can Americans move ahead when so many people disregard facts? And what needs to be done to strengthen the election process? I'm Ian Donnis and this week I'm going in-depth with Ken Block, author of “Disproven: My Unbiased Search For Voter Fraud For The Trump Campaign, The Data That Shows Why He Lost, And How We Can Improve Our Elections.”

This week's guest wears several hats: he's an author, a data analyst, a tech businessman and a former gubernatorial candidate in his home state of Rhode Island. Ken Block, who joined Major for breakfast at Any Day Now in D.C.'s Navy Yard neighborhood, was also briefly employed by the Trump campaign to hunt for voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Block's new book, Disproven, details his unbiased search for evidence of fraud that ultimately, "wasn't there." He tells Major that he's worried about the election fraud narratives bubbling up ahead of the 2024 presidential election and warns that former President Trump, "has to be mindful that the election denialism is not a winning message."See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Canon Benjamin Norman, ICKSP currently serves as Representative of the Institute of Christ the King at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Oakland, California. He was ordained in 2018.     In Today's Show: When your congregation is speaking with you or in reference to you, is it improper to call you "father" in lieu of canon? Would it be permissible to Baptize a new grandchild whose parents have walked away from the faith and have no intention of doing this? What can a man do to prepare for his first child? How should we respond to extreme criticisms of the Pope, even from our fellow Catholics? If I find any lost Rosaries, either ones I have lost track of in the past or ones accidentally abandoned, should I have them blessed? My understanding is that all ICKSP Canons have to learn French, which unites the ICKSP under a common language. That makes sense, but why isn't that language Latin? Are we falling into sin when we acknowledge someone's gender that is not a gender they were given by God? I cannot eat the standard foods most others eat on Fridays in order to abstain from meat. What are some other things we can do in order to observe the rule to abstain from meat on Fridays? My girlfriend is Roman Catholic and she wants to get married in a church. I'm a non-believer. Citing economic date, Dr. Reilly refutes the narrative that the south "built" America and explains that the false narrative mirrors theories espoused by southern confederates prior to the Civil War. So, why is Disney embracing this historically inaccurate theory in 2023—and pushing it on children?

We're continuing our in-depth video study series on Basic Christian Doctrine: The Nature Of God + The Gospel Plan Of Salvation. This series will explore some of the most overlooked essentials and basics of Biblical Christian doctrine.  Doctrine is simply a teaching. It is the basis or foundation for how one lives and conducts his life. As the Chief Cornerstone, Jesus, working through the apostles and prophets, laid the foundation of the doctrine of the church. The early church held to their doctrine so closely that they were willing to give up their lives for it. But as the centuries passed, more and more false doctrines crept into the church, corrupting it from within. What began as a powerful inferno became nothing more than a glowing ember by the Middle Ages. Then came the Reformation, as men began an effort to restore the church back to the doctrinal truths of the original apostolic church. However, although some progress was made, many false doctrines were retained.    Today, the Spirit of God is breathing afresh across the world and igniting the revelation of the doctrine of the original church described in the historical record of the Book of Acts. As we undertake a study of the foundational principles of true Christian doctrine, we will uncover just how far mainstream Christianity has strayed from the sound teachings of the Scriptures! In this 27th episode, we will cover: The Gospel Plan Of Salvation -Historical Evidence Disproving The Trinitarian Baptismal Formula (Section 57) Visit https://www.LetUsReason.com to download the full study notes, complete with references, charts, and quotes. https://www.letusreason.com/christian-doctrine

From 2020: Bob Enyart continues to air audio from last week from Greg Koulk, apologist president of Stand to Reason, who tragically denies, and thus defends, his moral relativism. Back in 2007 (see kgov.com/koukl) Greg encouraged Christians to support Republican candidates who are mass-murderers (by their open support for abortion). And still in 2020, he openly exhibits his own moral relativism as in his claim, though with clarification, that "some same sex couples are fabulous." And by that, he means, fabulous parents who we can support even in adopting children. Bob let Greg know that we planned to air and discuss his audio and Koukl did reply, but with the same defense he made years ago. "We report. You decide?" No. Actually, God decides. * BEL Resources on Moral Relativism: - 2020 Apologist Koukl Still Tragically Denies His Moral Relativism - 2020 Koukl BELs 7/21 (today's program) 7/29 8/3  - 2010 Personhood, Creation, the Law, and Moral Relativism - Suggest other BEL resources to us at Bob@kgov.com. Today's Resource: Nicer Than God Enjoy this fast-paced critique of religion where Bob Enyart presents questions such as: When should a Christian lie? Should he ever mock? How about name-calling? Does sarcasm belong in the Christian's repertoire? How about ridicule? Learn why nice is not in the Bible and how to identify a Nicer-Than-God Christian. If Christians are not supposed to judge, then why does Jesus command us to judge rightly? And if only God will judge, then why does Paul say that we believers will judge the angels, and judge the world? If Jesus logged onto a website forum under a pseudonym, would we recognize Him, or condemn Him? This album communicates well Bob Enyart's unique style. But, warning, warning, warning, Will Robertson, it is not for the faint of heart.   * Separately, Koukl says Science Cannot be Certain of Anything: As a preview to our 2015 rsr.org/forensics program on historical science, in 2013 we published a brief KGOV article, Can Science Prove Anything Absolutely? As quoted there, Greg Koukl had written that science "cannot be certain about anything in an absolute sense. ...its method never allows certainty" and then apparently contradictorily, Greg stated, "science is not the only means of giving us true information..." Consider this excerpt: ...it is said that science cannot “prove” anything. We allege that in this vein, creationists have surrendered far too much to atheistic relativists. As a corollary, to this, we hear that science cannot prove anything but it can only disprove things. Sources: 1. A theory can "never [be] proven correct" on PBS.org; "can never be shown to be correct" at gsu.edu; 2. UCMP at the Berkeley department of paleontology. 3. A popular creationist homeschool textbook says, "Science cannot prove anything. The best science can say is that all known data support a given statement. …there is no way that science can prove anything." Wile & Durnell, Exploring Creation with Biology, 2nd Edition, 2005, p. 33; Science, "cannot be certain about anything in an absolute sense. ...its method never allows certainty" and then perhaps contradictorily, "science is not the only means of giving us true information..." Greg Koukl, Stand to Reason, 2013; "all scientific knowledge is tentative… nothing is final. There is no such thing as final proven knowledge in science" at psychologytoday.com. Scientific Absolutes: The claim that science cannot absolutely prove anything is related to the more extreme and easily falsified atheist claim that there is no truth. Yes, we Christians take the Scriptures as our highest authority. But millions of people lived prior to Moses and Job, and it is not as though they had no ability to know truth. (They could even know God, as a number of them did, and God is truth.) There are various ways of obtaining or possessing apodictic, or absolute, knowledge. Consider the common claim, as in this quote from Berkeley, that "a hypothesis cannot ever be proven, only disproven." Has that been proven? To disprove a hypothesis is to prove its negation. (A hypothesis: The reason that even very large array telescopes will never find the center of the universe is because the universe has no center. Falsification: A theoretical falsification is the growing redshift data that increasingly indicates that the universe does have a center. Disproving that hypothesis proves another: The universe has a center.)Absolutes vs. Omniscience: Knowing some things absolutely does not equate to knowing everything. Could it be that the especially extreme claim that science "cannot prove anything" is really just unintentional hyperbole? Those making such claims seem to confuse something with everything, and therefore confuse our ability to know some things absolutely with our inability to know everything. Some claim that the best that scientific investigation can do is to bring you closer to the truth (i.e., closer to understanding reality). However, if science doesn't know absolutely that: - light travels faster than sound, nor that - the solar surface is hotter than the lunar, nor that - electromagnetic opposites attract, if it were that much in the dark, then science could not bring anyone "closer" to anything. However, science does know these things absolutely. When some argue that science cannot tell us anything, it seems that what they really mean is that science cannot make us omniscient. If that's what they mean, though, then that is what they should say; for the overstatement we hear only serves to promote the relativism of materialism. Lacking omniscience does not prove the lack of all knowledge. RSR hopes that creationists will realize that they have been unnecessarily agreeing with atheists by making such an extreme claim. Real Science Radio has other disagreements with creationists on such assumptions, but for now we'll add one last observation, and then let these suffice as our first shot across the bow. :) We see the matter of historical vs. observational science as mostly a manufactured issue. We do not only make careful observations and do repeated experiments in the laboratory. Human beings live that same way. We cook, work, and read while making careful observations and performing inherent repeated experiments. In a dream, every time we read a book the words can change; in the waking world, we know that the words on our printed pages do not rearrange themselves into varying messages. That alone is a form of absolute scientific knowledge. If we didn't know that, we couldn't trust the words we read in a book, whether a dictionary or the Bible. Claiming that science can tell us nothing absolute is tantamount to saying that we can have no trust in our minds, nor our senses, and if this were true, of course we would have no ability to trust any input, whether from the Bible, or, like ourselves and the millions who lived prior to the Scriptures, from any source whatsoever. We assert that the claims of the impossibility of certain scientific knowledge are concessions to the relativism of the materialist.

I watched NOPE tonight and it was amazing I did see spoilers before and watched the YouTube videos explaining the ending prior because I get scared easily and I wanted to be prepared for stuff and it helped a lot tbh but still the day prior to seeing it I saw Logan Pauls twitter thread and looking at it after seeing it all of his takes made zero sense and he had no depth of making and conclusions like everything was so surface level so im going through why I disagree and I dont dislike Logan Paul I watch impulsive ive mentioned it on here before but after hearing Jordan peele talk about it and listening to interviews of the actors and using critical thinking Logans takes suck and kind of prove the fact that people who exploit others and animals dont think its wrong another thing I have talked about a lot on this podcast. He talks about Daniel kaluuya and barbie Ferreira I think barbie Ferreira's role was perfect and didn't need to be emphasized honestly i liked that there weren't many characters that we needed to know and really learn because it made the story have more depth and detail instead I think every character was present for a reason and barbies character was realistic to angels story if he never interacted with a coworker it wouldn't be realistic I think the actor was amazing my favorite character for sure and I think hearing Jordan peele talk about how he wanted to depict black joy as well as it being a scary movie describes Daniel kaluuyas character as a black women who listens to black people talk about what they want to see in the entertainment field often we do want to see black people just doing shit and not experiencing trauma constantly and I think oj's character is just a normal dude and I think its important like what the fuck do you want him to do tap dance for you that was kinda giving microagression in a weird way He thinks that its weird that the saucer thing couldn't tell a blimp from a human I think it was going after anything that moved it was a predator and it was looking for any signs of life in its way I dont think that the intelligence is linked to its actions if that makes sense like just because the power went down when it went by doesn't mean its a mastermind you know? Kind of like people who harm things without even realizing it and animals that often cant tell the difference between things that are alive and aren't Anyways everyone go see nope all the actors and actresses were amazing and I think it was great movie and really important for people to see I think of black fish and all of the time recently I have spent watching videos of animals in captivity versus in the wild and its so sick what we do to animals I think of polar bears being held in hotter climates and want to cry we are creating so much pain and torture for those animals and they deserve their peace The idea of an animal getting upset with being controlled in their territory is not absurd look at the elephant in India that killed a woman after she tried to tell poachers where he was makes sense doesn't it? Go see nope! Thanks for listening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/al4s/message

Welcome to episode 33 of The Great Deception Podcast. On this episode we are unraveling the great deception story by the inheritors. As we know much of what we have been taught is his-story, not our-story. So we take a look at 3 articles that show the narrative has many holes in it. Specifically in America, as this land has a history far older than we have been told. First I look at Antiquities in America from 1858 where it compares America of old to being as beautiful and majestic as Thebes or Nineveh, with ruins of ancient cities and beyond. Then I look at a 1987 article from the Chicago Tribune on the long lost city of Chilaga, modern day Chicago possibly. After looking at Chilaga (even autocorrect wants to change Chilaga to Chicago) I take a look at an article by Frederick Dodson, a legend, The Fake History of Chicago, a great article exposing the deception and lies in the history of Chicago in the 1800's. Tim, Ian, Luke, and Lydia join friend and fellow podcaster Jack Posobiec to discuss emerging evidence that there were 'shoot-to-kill' orders on January 6th at the Capitol, Biden's abysmal ratings that are lower than Trump's, the half a million people who flooded alternative social media platform Gettr after Joe Rogan joined it, Ethan Klein's ridiculous anti-scientific criticism of the eminently physically healthy Joe Rogan's approach to Covid, the third Chinese spy who pled guilty to stealing American biomedical secrets to funnel to China, and the 'plague ship of wokeness' known as Glee. How are legends made? A common belief is that people are born with talent, or get hit with a lightning bolt of ability that rockets them to greatness. But as we discover in this episode, there is no such thing as innate talent. Masters are not born, they are made. How you choose to act and communicate to yourself is the map you are drawing for your achievements. Talk is cheap; consistent, dedicated, hard work, and hours of putting in the time is how you will achieve greatness. In this episode, we discuss a professor who puts this concept to the test with, get this, his own children! The results that came from his family are truly astonishing. The key lesson to come away with is, what you immerse yourself in will dramatically increase your ability. Whatever habits are normal in your culture will be among the most attractive behaviors you'll find. As we go through life what are the most important things to you? What direction are you going in? What are you becoming through your actions each and every day? You are going somewhere, so make sure it's the place you want to be going. If you want to change the state of mind you are in, remember the three things needed. 1. Change your physiology 2. Change your language (verbal and nonverbal) 3. Change your focus/belief. Remember, whether you say you can or cannot do something, you are right. What you focus on, you feel. In this week's episode I disprove the idea of being "self-made" in a literal sense. This term gets thrown around a lot when talking about success and I wanted to give my humble opinion of why I believe that it is literally impossible to be self-made.  Not for the faint of heart in this episode as I really get into this topic and do not hold back lol don't say I didn't warn you.
