Thursday the 10th of October marks World Mental Health Awareness day. In recognition of this, our trio tell personal stories of how videogames can be a force for good in managing mental health and periods of distress or low mood. Clone Hero, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, A Link to the Past, Alto's Adventure, Tetris, and Super Mario Bros 3. Disparate games linked here by their ability to make our triumvirate slow down, refocus, and calm. Videogames may not be the solution for everyone, but we at Our Three Cents firmly believe in their value as tools for offering escapism, structure, or soothing nostalgia when the world seems a difficult place. Much love to all listening. Be kind to one another.

This week, Bobby gets pompous about his role as defect sound engineer. Ian laments how cars automatically playing tracks in alphabetical order has destroyed his relationship with Mike Birbiglia and also how he'll never be sure if Bobby is being sincere about his love for Alto's Adventure Bobby's pick is the feel-good romantic comedy Green Room. Just kidding, Green Room is ugly and terrifying. Quality content be damned, Ian has decided to make Bobby watch The Sopranos two episodes at a time until Bobby plays some stupid video game. Popular culture discussed: Mike Birbiglia, Alto's Adventure, Tiny Wings, Good Christian Fun, Night Trap
Lory Gil and Mikah Sargent are joined for the first half of the show by Ryan Cash. He's the founder of Snowman — the independent software development studio responsible for wildly popular games like Alto's Adventure, Alto's Odyssey, and Circles. They talk about the past, present, and future of his company and the enormous impact iPhone and the App Store have had on the world. From there, Mikah and Lory talk about their mutual love, admiration, and respect for Serenity Caldwell. It was recently announced that Serenity has left iMore for a position with Apple's communication team. Although no one can truly replace Serenity, Lory has been promoted to managing editor of iMore. They also chat about Instagram's new Q&A feature, and Lory has the scoop on Gorilla Glass 6. Feed will include Channels 1, 2, 3, and any future channels not yet planned. Feed will also include podcasts in high quality, stereo where applicable, and episodes will never expire off the feed. Therefore it is STRONGLY recommended that you subscribe to this Nerd Noise Radio feed and bypass all others. This one will contain all their content anyway. Option 2: If you're ONLY interested in Channel 1 ("Noise from the Hearts of Nerds") episodes, and not in any of the other content that is or will be offered by Nerd Noise Radio, there is a Channel 1-specific feed. But it's hosted on a free account, rather than an upgraded account like the "All Channels Feed" with lower quality sound (mono, I believe), a maximum 2hrs per month of content (so if the month's episodes run longer than that, they may need to be trimmed), and episodes expire off the feed forever after 90 days. It is STRONGLY recommended for most listeners to subscribe to the All-Channels feed instead. However, if you really are only interested in Channel 1 content, here's the RSS: http://www.buzzsprout.com/77944.rss Our episodes will also appear on our Nerd Noise Radio YouTube Channel - just search for Nerd Noise Radio, you'll find us! Here's today's episode: https://youtu.be/73kM8YsRUdU Additionally, there are YouTube Playlists you can follow, both an "All Channels" Feed (recommended), as well as channel-specific feeds. You can find them here: Nerd Noise Radio Network - All Channels Podcast Feed Nerd Noise Radio - Channel 1 podcast Nerd Noise Radio is now available on Twitch as well! The Tangent - 96: Victim To His Deck It's the last episode of 2016 and boy has it been quite the year. We are also getting ever closer to the 100th episode. Leading off tonight is Gary. He does a rundown of all the games he's now playing on the PC. We can't really understand because we're not "Elite" enough. Doom, Shadow Warrior 2, and Overwatch all make that list. Ultra Settings are just too much for us to handle (and himself for that matter). Following him is Brian. He's taking it nice and easy and platinuming Dishonored 2. After his time with that, he's been spending it in the game Oceanhorn. He can't get enough of it. Justin's been hoping around from game to game this week. Assassin's Creed Syndicate to Bully to Pokemon Sun & Moon to a Brian Shitter Game™, Alto's Adventure. Lastly, Anthony played two free PS4 games; Invisble Ink and Stories. This week we are talking about fun games to play over the Thanksgiving break, HD remasters both on and off the PS4 Pro, about whether Super Mario Run is actually worth $10 and reflecting back 15 years ago to the launch of the original Xbox. We also touch on the great mobile game Altos Adventure and ten-year-in-the-making platformer Owl Boy.

Bonjour à toutes et tous. Voici le Podcast numéro 016 de Geek0Rama, Holala ! Holala !

Alto's Adventure Today we have Ryan Cash from Snowman software on the podcast. Ryan and his team built an amazing game for iOS called Alto's Adventure. Ryan and I discuss how the game came to fruition, and the marketing strategy. I know a lot of you have been asking about how to go about building a game, so here's the episode for you! As in previous episodes, we discussed treating the app like a movie — releasing tidbits of the game in teasers and trailers, and then showing some behind the scenes such as how the game was built. Ryan learned how to build his audience using this method. Having posted a few things on the website, he was able to build up the anticipation for the game, much like a producer would for a big Hollywood blockbuster. My thanks to Ryan and the entire team at Snowman for releasing Alto's Adventure. Go play it today! Ryan Cash is the founder of Snowman, a small indie developer who specialises in iOS games. Their latest title, Altos Adventure, caught the attention of show host Chris O'Regan via Twitter thanks to Matt Murray, friend of the Joypod podcast. Chris invited Ryan to come on The Sausage Factory to chat about his game and amazingly he agreed. This show is the result of Ryans guest appearance where he talks about his time as an iOS developer since the very first iPhone appeared back in 2007 and how he admires others who are forging their path in the highly competitive realm of iOS games. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode52.mp3 The Sausage Factory 52 was edited by Chris O'Regan
