What happens when a family journey interweaves with the discovery of autism in their child? As the host, I had the privilege to invite Fiona from Australia, a strong and inspiring mother who shares her personal traversal through the maze of autism. Her tale is not just about recognising the signs in her younger daughter but also about how narratives from other women on the spectrum transformed their fear into a profound understanding of autism and altered their family's dynamic. Has your child been diagnosed with a neurodiverse condition and you find yourself asking 'what's next'? Fiona's story could be your guide. She not only delves into her daughter's autism but also expounds on the value of knowledge, the power of open diagnosis disclosure, and its impact on peers. Fiona's story doesn't end there. As we continue, she goes on to discuss her other daughter's ADHD and potential autism diagnosis, emphasizing how understanding each other's unique neurology can lead to genuine acceptance and support. To wrap it up, Fiona's inspiration to write a book titled 'Tiny Wings' amplifies her mission to spread awareness about autism. She articulates how the Covid-19 pandemic influenced her family and their journey of acceptance, with her daughter transitioning from a library volunteer to an employee. As we conclude, Fiona extends her gratitude and hopes for future collaborations. In this episode, DJ invited author Fiona Valentine on the show to discuss her unique perspective of parenting a special needs child, embracing unconventional education solutions, finding patience in any setbacks and celebrating baby steps. Stay tuned as Fiona sheds light on the ever-changing nature of autism and the balancing act required to create a harmonious and joyful family life to ensure the needs of all the children are met (including those without autism). Fiona is an Australian artist, founder of Business School for Artists and author of Tiny Wings. She loves talking about creativity, finding work you love (and how as a parent of a neuro diverse child you can work towards that for your kids). When her daughter was young, hope for the future got buried under advocating and trying to find a diagnosis. Her hope is that sharing their story will help families who are in the thick of parenting - especially if special needs are part of their life. Her book Tiny Wings is written for girls with autism and the people who love them.TIMESTAMPS • [5:55] It's such a journey of discovery… There are so many variations. This episode covers Fiona Valentine, who's an artist based in Melbourne, Australia, and the mind behind The Confident Artist and The Profitable Artist Method. . While Fiona has been an artist for practically her entire life, she put her creative pursuits on hold while raising her first child in a mud house in Africa without water and electricity, as these pursuits felt too self-indulgent. After recovering her creativity and recognizing the importance of these artistic endeavors, Fiona has since found a passion for helping women recognize and develop their own creativity. . The conversation ranges from misconceptions in the art community, to tips on how artists can appropriately price their artwork, how creators can discover their niche, and even the book Tiny Wings that Fiona's currently working on in collaboration with her daughter. .

So much of the damage, trauma and issues that people struggle with in our adult years often stems from what I like to call “the childhood nest”. You know, the shit that was going down in our households when we were little kids. If we didn't receive enough nurturing & nourishment in our formative years, if we didn't get the love and care we deserved as “little birds” - if the ones who were supposed to protect you, were also the ones that abandoned, abused, rejected or judged you - it's understandable how we end up believing the BS (beliefs + stories) we tell ourselves that clip our wings and hold us back. As a Spiritual Mentor, one of the things that I like to do is to create a safe place (a new kind of nest) where people can come to mend their wings, find their strength, take radical responsibility, remember who they really are and spread those tail feathers! Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about THE NEST. About discovering and using the spiritual tools that will enable us to return to our natural state of inheritance of peace, love and happiness. So we can then go out and create nests for others!

Jon has been playing around with his new Vita while Nathan realises that there are more games in the world other than Skyrim. Sean tried out Microsoft's new Kinect PlayFit app, Tiny Wings version 2.0 and spent more time with Alice Madness Returns. As for the news, the Ouya has been announced and kickstarted, the next Batman game from Rocksteady gets revealed, Fart Cat! is soon to be released, Sony's version of the Xbox Summer of Arcade is detailed and much much more.
Endless Space, Mario Tennis Open, Zynga, Tiny Wings 2...
I started writing the summary for this episode but I couldn't think of anything so I started playing Tiny Wings. Haven't heard of it? It's the seventh best selling app on the store, and a personal favorite of the No Format podcast, and Andreas Illiger just updated it to Version 2.0 adding an extra mode of play "flight school". Anyway, this episode also contains various other topics but why don't you buy Tiny Wings, download this podcast, and nestle into your favorite chair. We'll be your background music.
