Fitbit bought the tech and engineers but did not care about anything else. This means Pebble is refunding all the Pebble Time 2 and Pebble Core. Das Spotlight ist heute auf unserem Bordmechaniker, der eigentlich Video- und Screencastproduzent ist und endlich mal über seine Workflows sprechen darf. Lieber Fluggast, wenn dir das Gehörte gefällt oder dir Sorgenfalten auf die edle Stirn fabriziert, dann haben wir etwas für dich: iTunes Bewertungen. Patrick entspannt derzeit seine Handgelenke vom ständigen Steuerknüppel-Umklammern und versucht am Großglockner, bei unseren Österreichischen Freunden, ein Keyboard Maestro Marco zu installieren — der alte Cliffhanger! Wie sich rausstellt war das eine ziemlich schlechte Idee, denn nun tanzen Andreas und Sven auf dem Cockpit-Tisch. Wie turbulent so etwas werden kann merkt man schon daran, dass die beiden ernsthaft glauben im Cockpit gäbe es ein Tisch. Überbleibsel Backup und Backups Backup-Strategien scheinen beinahe so brisant zu sein wie Photo Management. Zumindest, wenn man das Feedback zu den jeweilgen Episoden anschaut. Viel Lob gab es, aber auch Kritik. Natürlich ist nur ein Backup auf dem NAS nicht aussreichend und natürlich können einzelne Backups korrupt sein, so dass sie sich nicht mehr zum Wiederherstellen nutzen lassen. Der erfahrene Pilot rät zur stichprobenartigen Inspektion. Genau deshalb haben wir ja auch von Backups (plural) und nicht von Backup (singular) gesprochen. Nicht nur grammatikalisch, sondern auch strategisch ein entscheidender Unterschied. Patrick hat eine klassische Bergpanorama-Postkarte mit Briefmarke und Stempel geschickt auf der er nochmals seine eigene Vertrauenshierachie für Backups als Schüttelreim zusammenfasst: Festplattenbackups (Archiv) NAS Backup (“Schnellzugriff Archiv”) Offsite und TimeMachine Das mit dem Dichten sollte er lassen, aber bei Backups weiß’a Bescheid, der Bur! 2015er Backblaze Harddisk Report Unter den Business Class Gästen des besten Deutschsprachigen Tech-Podcast befinden sich ja bekanntlich das Who-Is-Who der internationalen Firmenlenker. Etwas enttäuscht waren wir deshalb, dass Backblaze nicht wie geplant ihren druckfrischen jährlichen Report zur Verlässlichkeit von Backup-Festplatten pünktlich zur letzten Folge veröffentlich haben. Dafür ist der 2015er Report jetzt verfügbar. Die Erkenntnisse und Ergebnisse unterscheiden sich allerdings nur marginal von denen aus 2014. Sparse Bundles, Verschlüsselungen und Dropbox Hörer Marcus Stößel hat uns umfassendes Feedback und Fragen geliefert was Verschlüsselungen von Backups, der Dropbox mit Boxcryptor und den daraus resultierenden Folgen anbelangt (und noch einiges mehr). Da haben wir uns erstmal riesig gefreut um dann aber festgestellt, dass wir in der kürze der Zeit hier keine adäquaten Antworten geben können. Zwar referriert Andreas kurz über das Für, Wieder und Wie der Sparse Bundles, abschließend können wir das aber nur mit Hilfe der Wissenschaftsredaktion des Übercasts behandeln. Nicht aufgehoben, nur aufgeschoben. Überschallneuigkeiten KirbyDrop Schon wieder ein Kind, wenn auch ein indirektes, ehemaliger Übercast-Gäste: KirbyDrop schickt sich an mit Hilfe von Dropshare (#UC012) und Kirby (#UC025) eine echte, selbst-gehostete Alternative zu Diensten wie Droplr und CloudApp zu werden. Letztere scheinen monatlich teuerer und komplizierter zu werden. Mit ein paar KirbyDrop Features mehr, die bereits in der Planung sind, ist man bald sein eigner Wolken-Meister. Apple Watch als Haustürschlüssel Andreas ist seit dieser Sendung Zuhause ausgesperrt. Besucht ihn mal auf Stuttgart’s Straßen und schenkt ihm einen iTunes Gutschein oder zwei. Wie er dahin gekommen ist? Nein, kein Ende seiner Hausbesetzung, kein Mietrückstand und kein Eigenbedarf: Andreas hat schlichtweg immer noch keine Apple Watch und nachdem ganz Stuttgart auf Apple Watch gesteuerte Haustürschlösser umgestellt wurde, war es das eben für den Guten. Spaß beiseite, die NFC- und Bluetoothfähigkeiten der Apple Watch werden so einige Vorgänge in der Zukunft vereinfachen, z.B. das Öffnen der Haustür. Mit dem Smart Lock inkl. Apple Watch Unterstützung von August kann man das machen, muss man aber nicht. Pebble Time jetzt offiziell in Deutschland Wenn euch das Öffnen von Haustürschlössern und auch die Apple Watch nicht so wichtig sind, dann gibt es die ebenfalls gehypte Alternative ab sofort direkt in Deutschland käuflich erstehen: Die Pepple Time. Andreas’ Video und Screencasting Workflows Der Bord-Trolley mit sämtlichen Getränken steht in der Mitte des Cockpits (als Tischersatz) und auf Patrick’s verwaisten Platz haben Andreas und Sven einen riesigen Stoffhund gestellt: Andreas ist heute nämlich nicht nur Crew-Mitglied, sondern auch Gast. Doppelte Belastung, halbe Entlohnung – versteht sich! Auch wenn es kaum menschenmöglich erscheint, aber Andreas macht tatsächlich noch einen Vollzeit-Job neben dem Übercast: Mit zCasting3000 mischt er kräftig in der “Produkt-, Erklärvideo und Screencasting”-Branche mit. Da will Sven natürlich die berühmten Details wissen. Klare Prioritäten Podcaster, Video-Produzent, Barcamper, meditierender Vegetarier, … Andreas ist ohne Frage ein Tausendsassa. Da muss nicht nur Übersicht, sondern auch Prioritäten her. In seiner eignen Planung, die sich an den Flughöhen von GTD® (Getting Things Done) orientiert — endlich können die Himmelsstürmer mal im Flieger-Kauderwelsch fachsimplen — behält Andreas den Überblick und seine Ziele im Auge. Jedenfalls meistens. Video Editing Ohne Umschweife direkt zum Kern von Andreas’ Workflow. In Sachen Video Editing ist der Einstieg für den Interessierten gar nicht so schwierig: iMovie kommt mit jedem Mac und iOS Gerät frei Haus. Und schlecht ist es auch nicht, attestiert Andreas. Man kann damit recht gut die ersten Schritte machen. Danach gibt es dann im wesentlich nur die Wahl zwischen Apple’s Final Cut Pro X und Adobe’s umfassender Video Suite mit dem Ankerpunkt Premiere Pro. Dieser musste sich auch Andreas stellen und hat sich für Apple’s Paket entschieden. In Sachen Funktionen unterscheiden sich die beiden Programmpakete nur marginal, natürlich ist Konzept und Philosophie der Applikationen unterschiedlich, aber am weitesten geht die Schere beim kommerziellen Modell auseinander: Apple bietet Festpreis und Adobe macht es per Abo. Letzteres war ein entscheidender Punkt für Andreas, der sich nicht langfristig über ein Abonnement binden wollte. Screen Recording Auch hier gibt es Wettbewerb und somit eine Auswahl: ScreenFlow ist vielleicht ein bisschen so etwas wie der Platzhirsch, der aus Sicht von Andreas in den letzten Jahren aber etwas nachgelassen hat. Doch auch Camtasia hat sich gemausert und bietet heute durchaus Vergleichbares. Was Andreas super findet ist, dass man mit beiden im Grunde den kompletten Workflow, teilweise sogar über den Screencast hinaus, abbilden kann. Somit stellen beide Programme Mini-Alternativen zu den großen Video Editoren da. Zumindest für den kleinen Schnitt zwischendurch, meint Andreas. → Andreas’s Review von ScreenFlow 5 Claquette wiederum begeistert unseren Schnippler auch, bietet aber eben wirklich nur den reinen “Screen Recording”-Teil des Workflows ab, dies aber durchaus beeindruckend. Somit eine gute Komponente wenn man schon einen der großen Video-Editor-Brocken am Start hat. Motion Design Schicker Name, dreht sich aber im wesentlichen um Animationen, Effekte und so banale Dinge wie Texteinblendungen, die während der Post-Produktion dem bewegten Bild hinzugefügt werden. Auch hier kämpfen die Kolosse Apple und Adobe mit ihren jeweiligen Lösungen um den Platz im Dock des geneigten Videokünstlers: Motion 5 gegen After Effects. Aus bereits bekannten Gründen ist zCasting3000 hier auch mit der Apple Lösung Motion unterwegs. Die Integrationstiefe der jeweiligen Lösungspakete von Adobe und Apple machen eine Kombination von Programmen verschiedner Hersteller zwar nicht undenkbar, aber denkbar kompliziert. Story Telling Wie einfach alles wäre, wären da nicht immer diese “Kunden”. Natürlich können Entwickler, Produktmanager oder Prozessverantwortliche nicht genau sagen, was für ein Video sie gerne hätten. Es ist ja nunmal nicht ihr Job Videos zu erstellen. Andreas hat oft festgestellt, dass Kunden gerne Beispielvideos zeigen, was sehr hilfreich ist, meist aber entweder Inhalt oder Optik, selten aber beides illustriert. Der Prozess des Story Tellings (Ziele mit Kunden abstecken, Storyboard erstellen, Script schreiben, Unterschrift, erst dann die Produktion starten) ist für Andreas deshalb ein adäquates Mittel um in einem iterativen Prozess sich den Vorstellung des Kunden anzunähern. Um diese Annäherung visuell zu begleiten ist für Andreas Keynote die Waffe der Wahl. In der Tat hilft Keynote nicht nur beim Präsentieren sondern — Land auf, Land ab — eben auch beim Erstellen von Prototypen. Egal, ob nun von Videos oder Applikationen. Grossartiges Beispiel: Keynote does Material Design Continous Integration Der nächste Schritt um den gesamten Prozess der Video Produktion in engere und iterativere Abstimmung mit dem Kunden zu bringen nennt sich Continous Integration. Früher als reine Vision abgetan da limitierte Prozessorleistungfähigkeiten lange Renderingzeiten für Videos nach sich zogen, ist man mit modernen MacBook Pros heute schon ziemlich nah dran. Wie nahe haben Andreas und Team in einem ihrer letzten zCasting3000 Blog Posts erläutert. Workflow Speed Dating Jetzt wird es schnell, informativ und zum Teil auch lustig. Andreas stellt sich den investigativ-journalistischen Fragen von Sven, der damit schon so manches Großkaliber ins Schwanken gebracht hat. Wacker und wendig schlängelt sich Andreas durch den verbalen Hindernisparkour. Deine älteste, installierte App?
