In 2024 the Criminal Assets Bureau seized assets and money totalling just over €17 million and sold 20 houses that had been bought with the proceeds of crime. The sale of 20 forfeited homes – the highest number to date in any one year – took in early €5 million. And next week, in an auction timed for Black Friday, a haul of designer goods, ranging from Canada Goose jackets and Chanel handbags to Rolex watches and designer trainers, all bought with dirty money and all seized by the Cab, will go under the hammer – with the proceeds going to the exchequer. It's not all assets, the annual report shows that €13.3 million was collected by Revenue and just over half a million euro in Social Welfare recoveries. So it was a good year for the head of the Cab, Det Chief Superintendent Michael Gubbins who explains how he and his team of experts do their work and why, for most of them, anonymity is vitally important.Presented by Bernice Harrison. BT and Sal get into a heated debate about Juan Soto's performance, questioning whether his current "bad year" is just an anomaly or part of a larger trend. Sal defends Soto's superstar status by pointing to his career numbers and on-base skills, while BT argues that Soto's recent decline in batting average and other key statistics, particularly his low average with runners in scoring position, reveals a player whose greatness might be more contextualized than universally acclaimed. The argument highlights a fundamental disagreement on what defines a superstar hitter in the modern game, with BT focusing on a broader range of offensive numbers and Sal emphasizing Soto's exceptional walk rate and power.

Today's Lake and Shed framed conversation is about Rowling's remarkable “fairy-tale” and the history and meaning of its release during the “pandemic” hysteria of 2020. The Ickabog, along with Casual Vacancy and Ink Black Heart, is not only one of Rowling's most autobiographical works, but, with the Lake and Shed interview, the Solve et Coagula tattoo, her RFK Award speech, and the Trans Tweet Heard Round the World, a key to her self-understanding in the critical year 2019-2020. Nick takes the ‘Shed' point and lays out the controlled demolition of her reputation among Group Thinkers on the Left in the lead up to Ickabog's publication and John shares the meaning of ‘The Ickabog's Song,' the embedded text of the tale, as interpreted by Daisy Dovetail (an embedded author?).New to the Lake and Shed Kanreki Birthday series? Here's what we're doing:On 31 July 2025, Joanne Murray, aka J. K. Rowling and Robert Galbraith, will be celebrating her 60th birthday. This celebration is considered a ‘second birth' in Japan or Kanreki because it is the completion of the oriental astrological cycle. To mark JKR's Kanreki, Dr John Granger and Nick Jeffery, both Nipponophiles, are reading through Rowling's twenty-one published works and reviewing them in light of the author's writing process, her ‘Lake and Shed' metaphor. The ‘Lake' is the biographical source of her inspiration; the ‘Shed' is the alocal place of her intentional artistry, in which garage she transforms the biographical stuff provided by her subconscious mind into the archetypal stories that have made her the most important author of her age. You can hear Nick and John discuss this process and their birthday project at the first entry in this series of posts: Happy Birthday, JKR! A Lake and Shed Celebration of her Life and Work.Tomorrow? Perhaps the best single book by Rowling-Galbraith, Troubled Blood. Nick will be sharing Rowling's skills in and beliefs about astrology which plays an outsised role in the fifth Strike novel. The Las Vegas Raiders have had a tumultuous couple of seasons, marked by staffing turnovers (going through two head coaches AND two general managers in the last two years), a high-profile DUI charge, and oh yeah, quarterback drama. Unsurprisingly, they also had a dismal 4-13 season. What's going on? Could co-owner Tom Brady be the answer, and will the Raiders ever be as beloved as homegrown teams like the Golden Knights and the Aces? Tom Sandoval is ending his already not so great year in a not so great way - let go from Vanderpump Rules along with all other OGs, the closing of Schwartz and Sandy's after a rocky run and more. We chat about the year of Sandoval, share updates on his relationship with model Victoria Lee Robinson and what we can expect from The Most Extras “most extra” front man as he prepares for a 2025 which will ultimately see him facing off, sans attorney, in court against Rachel Leviss. Despite many claims that she could be faking it for a storyline, Dorit rises to the RHOBH occasion, finds her voice, carries the season - so far and makes moves to prepare for the rest of the season and an upcoming year in which she is bound to experience many “firsts”.  Teddi, who has been very judgmental of others' affairs, relationships and mess ups, seems to be the target of a lot of on line trolling, is being mentioned on RHOBH more than when she was on the show and has been sending mixed messages about Kyle, Edwin and the horse trainer which leaves many wondering wtf is really going on. Finally, Bethenny Frankel has a new message for Kelly Bensimon, flaunts her new man Tom even more than before and tries to balance the holidays, work, motherhood and romance as she closes out the year with a bang.  All this and more as we are joined by the one and only Psychic Leota from The Psychic Source.
