In this special Father's Day episode of the Twiniversity Podcast, Natalie sits down with Dr. Charles Glassman — internist, life coach, podcast host, and twin dad of identical girls now in their late 20s. Charles and Natalie cover the full arc of twin parenting from the moment of the surprise diagnosis (spoiler: his wife was "just pregnant" until a 16-week sonogram revealed two heads) all the way through the extraordinary milestone of his daughters celebrating their 21st birthday together in Paris — and the business partnership they've built since. It's an honest, warm, and deeply encouraging conversation for twin parents at any stage, told from the rare perspective of a dad who is also a physician, a middle child, and someone who has learned — sometimes the hard way — that patience, perspective, and knowing when to take a time-out are the best parenting tools in the kit. Charles opens up about the regret he carries most (not carving out enough individual one-on-one time with each twin), the moment he confirmed his daughters were monozygotic at Disney World, why discovering their identical DNA at age 12 may have accelerated their drive for independence, and how — after going to different colleges on purpose — they ended up choosing the same semester abroad rather than spend a year apart from each other's best friend. Plus: the "Daddy takes a time-out" technique that every twin parent needs to hear. Owning Your Birth Story: Twin Mom Maddie on Natural Birth, C-Section, and Delivering Twins

Twiniversity Podcast with Natalie Diaz

In this episode of the Twiniversity Podcast, Natalie talks with Maddie Rahlf, a twin mom of three girls, about the "double whammy" delivery - giving birth to one twin vaginally and the other by C-section in the very same hour. Maddie shares how her twins were a complete surprise - a natural, spontaneous twin conception with no twins in the family, discovered at her 12-week ultrasound - and how reading Nat's book helped her find solid ground once the shock wore off. Because Baby B had a marginal cord insertion and was measuring under the 10th percentile, Maddie's pregnancy included weekly maternal fetal medicine (MFM) monitoring and an induction at 36 weeks. Natalie and Maddie walk through the delivery almost minute by minute: an easy vaginal birth for Baby A after only a few pushes, Baby B flipping transverse the moment she had the womb to herself, the attempts to turn her, a cervix that closed back up, and the placenta concern that finally made a C-section the safest call. Then comes the twist - it was Baby A, the vaginally delivered twin, who ended up in the NICU on CPAP, while Baby B stayed right with mom. The conversation also gets into recovering from a vaginal birth and major abdominal surgery at the same time, the empowerment of being given the choice to try for a vaginal delivery, and Nat's "use your BRAIN" framework (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Nothing) for making decisions in the moment. Maddie's biggest takeaway: if it happens, it happens - you figure it out one day at a time, and you'll have a pretty cool story to tell. This episode is a reassuring, myth-busting conversation for any twin parent who feels anxious about the possibility of a double whammy delivery. EPISODE THEMES

In this episode of the Twiniversity Podcast, Natalie talks with Christy-Faith, homeschool advocate, author of Homeschool Rising, education expert, and twin mom, about home-based learning, school-aged twins, and why homeschooling looks very different today than it did a generation ago. Christy-Faith shares her own path to motherhood, including secondary infertility, IVF, fraternal twin girls, a surprise fourth baby, and the hard reality of parenting twins through the early years. She also opens up about her professional background in education, including running a learning intervention and tutoring center in Los Angeles before eventually choosing home education for her own family. Natalie and Christy-Faith talk honestly about the fears many parents have around homeschooling - socialization, academics, family support, whether it is “too weird,” and whether parents are qualified to do it. Christy explains why she prefers the term home-based education, because modern homeschooling can include co-ops, live online classes, outside teachers, homeschool pods, interest-led learning, and a strong community. The conversation also explores what happens when school is not working for your child. Natalie shares her own regrets about not exploring more flexible school options when her twins were younger, including the feeling that her kids were on a “runaway horse” in a system that did not always fit who they were. This episode is a validating and thought-provoking conversation for twin parents who are questioning the traditional school path, wondering what options exist, or simply wanting permission to ask: Is there another way to educate my kids? In this episode of the Twiniversity Podcast, Natalie talks with Laura Liepold, a registered dietician and twin mom, about premature twins, NICU life, and the reality of feeding babies who arrive much earlier than expected. Laura shares how her identical twin boys were born at 29 weeks and 4 days after signs of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, also known as TTTS, appeared suddenly during a routine appointment. What followed was an urgent C-section and a long NICU stay - 63 days for one twin and 86 days for the other. Natalie and Laura dive into what NICU feeding can really look like, from pumping and feeding tubes to fortified breast milk, bottles, triple feeding, and thickened liquids. Laura explains how her background as a registered dietician helped her understand the medical side, but nothing could fully prepare her for experiencing it as a mom. The conversation also explores the emotional weight of feeding premature twins - wanting to breastfeed directly, realizing bottles were working better, learning sideline feeding, managing different calorie recipes, and eventually choosing to exclusively pump for the first year. This episode is a practical and validating conversation about NICU survival, preemie feeding, and learning to adapt when your birth and feeding journey looks nothing like the plan. EPISODE THEMES

Send us a textDr. Michael Narvey, neonatologist and Vice President of Canadian Pediatric Society, challenges the validity of pre-discharge car seat testing. After leading Canadian work resulting in nationwide abandonment of the test in 2016, he argues the test doesn't represent real-world conditions (potholes, movement) and lacks evidence demonstrating it saves lives from apnea or desaturations. Based on 50 years of autopsy data, rare car seat-related deaths result from unsupervised asphyxiation when infants slide down onto straps—not from events in moving vehicles. Narvey distinguishes between eliminating the test versus maintaining essential car seat safety education, emphasizing proper positioning and avoiding unsupervised use outside vehicles. Some US centers are reconsidering this practice. Support the showAs always, feel free to send us questions, comments, or suggestions to our email: nicupodcast@gmail.com. In this episode, I talk with Zara—a journalist, women's health reporter, and twin mom—about how knowing too much sometimes gets in the way of just being a parent. Before she even saw two heartbeats on the ultrasound, Zara was knee-deep in reproductive health journalism, covering everything from fertility to pregnancy complications. But when life threw her not one, but two babies, the story she thought she knew so well got personal—fast. We talk about how being informed can sometimes lead to anxiety instead of empowerment, how fertility struggles shaped her perspective on motherhood, and what happens when the glamorous celebrity twin narrative meets the harsh reality of a high-risk pregnancy. From dealing with preeclampsia to unpacking the media's obsession with twins, Zara gets honest about the emotional whiplash of twin parenting and why she believes we need more real talk and less tabloid sparkle.Whether you're pregnant with twins, parenting through postpartum chaos, or just trying to make sense of the internet's latest parenting advice, this episode is a reminder that it's okay to be both grateful and overwhelmed. Knowledge is power—but sometimes, not knowing everything gives you the space to breathe.EPISODE THEMES

According to new research from AAA and the National Safety Council, more than two-thirds of all car seats are improperly installed nationwide, and just 1 in 5 parents and caregivers seek expert help to install a seat or safely secure a child in that seat. That's why AAA is offering free car seat installations this week for National Child Passenger Safety Week. We got the details about it from Adelle Zocher, outreach specialist and certified child passenger safety technician for AAA Northeast. In this episode, I talk with Julie—an identical twin, adoptive daughter, and now grandmother—about the extraordinary journey she and her sister took to find their birth mother at the age of 48. What began as a search sparked by a health scare turned into a deeply emotional exploration of identity, loyalty, and sisterhood.Julie shares how navigating a closed adoption system, confronting family dynamics, and facing both rejection and reunion shaped her understanding of herself as a twin and as a daughter. We discuss the emotional layers of being raised with your twin while separated from your origins, the challenges of searching later in life, and the complicated but powerful connection they ultimately forged with their birth mom.We also explore what it means to honor both adoptive and biological family bonds, how DNA testing changed everything, and why twinhood remained Julie's strongest anchor through the ups and downs. Julie's story is a powerful reminder of how deeply identity and connection intertwine—and how even decades later, it's never too late to seek the truth.Whether you're an adoptive parent of twins, a twin yourself, or simply curious about how identity and family evolve over time, this episode is full of vulnerability, wisdom, and hope. EPISODE THEMES
