That's what high performance is to me, the ability to adapt rapidly so you can achieve your potential. There are five key pillars to creating the conditions for adaptability: sleep, exercise, mental resilience, nutrition, and community/relationships.” - Dr. Erik Korem   “I maybe have a different concept on leadership. To me, leading is a verb. If you're leading, you're a leader. If you're swimming you're a swimmer, if you're driving you're a driver. If you're leading you're by definition a leader. I define leading as being looked to in a particular moment to make a decision or perform an action based on your unique gifts and abilities. So by that definition, everybody is a leader. All rank and role really describe is how many people are hoping you get it right when it's your turn to wear the weight.” - Clint Bruce "Attention is the currency of performance." - Dr. Peter Haberl “That's what I've discovered in the lives of brilliant, prolific, healthy creatives, is that they have networks of people they leverage in the course of their work. That they learn from, that they were challenged by, that they gave great insight and purview into their own life and work, in such a way that they were able to receive feedback that helped them get better at what they do.” - Todd Henry "Restful and fulfilling sleep enables you to grow, adapt, and thrive. It creates the conditions for adaptation, so you can pursue audacious goals and thrive in uncertainty." - Dr. Erik Korem "Most exercise programs fail, not because the reps and sets are poorly designed, but because the program doesn't adjust for how much stress your body can adapt to that day!. That's why Dr. Chris Morris' research and practical application of fluid periodization is the key for unlocking your performance potential." - Dr. Erik Korem See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Arquette also reflects on working with Martin Landau in the wrestling movie Ready to Rumble, talks about his life-threatening GWC deathmatch with Nick Gage, and discusses his anticipated return to the role of Dewey Riley in Scream 5, the first movie in the franchise to not be directed by the late, legendary Wes Craven.    Arquette looks back on the Scream franchise as a whole, too, sharing some of his favorite memories of working with Craven and playing Dewey in the previous four Scream films.    So, whether you enjoy Arquette's work as an actor, professional wrestler, or both, enjoy a journey into his intriguing (and at times bloody) life on this very special episode of Daily Dead's official podcast!

I heard him give a presentation on “Reflections and Resources as A Coach” that was an awesome overview of how we train athletes and how we should train ourselves as coaches in our whole lives. Very similar to previous guests Cameron Josse's talk on the 4 Co-Active Models and approach to training, Chris seemed to take this a step further and dive into what this means for us as coaches as well and it fits the Jordan Peterson rule for life very well! Remember when David Arquette just played a wrestler and was not actually having deathmatches on the weekends? Well, let's hope his real life persona does not replicate his role in this film, because I do not want to deal with giant, mutant spiders! This week is the 2002 flop Eight Legged Freaks. We analyze why the film likely failed based on its competition and as always, do a scene by scene analysis.  The movie stars Arquette (Scream, Ready to Rumble) as Chris McCormick, the prodigal son of the town, returning after the death of his father. He reignites an old love of Sheriff Samantha Parker (Kari Wuhrer,  Anaconda, Thinner, Swamp Thing) a strong willed and able-bodied single mom. Her children Mike (Scott Terra) and Ashley (Scarlett Johansson, Iron Man 2, Avengers, Ghost World) are struggling with teen angst, oh and yeah-- those pesky mutant spiders.  The movie is not immaculate, but it is fun and we hope you enjoy! A luminous debut, Chris McCormick's Desert Boys traces the development of towns into cities, of boys into men, and the haunting effects produced when these transformations overlap. Both a bildungsroman and a portrait of a changing place, the book mines the terrain between the desire to escape and the hunger to belong. This series of powerful, intertwining stories illuminates Daley “Kush” Kushner's world—the family, friends, and community that have both formed and constrained him, and his new life in San Francisco. Back home, the desert preys on those who cannot conform: an alfalfa farmer on the outskirts of town; two young girls whose curiosity leads to danger; a black politician who once served as his school’s Confederate mascot; Kush’s mother, an immigrant from Armenia; and Kush himself, introspective and queer. McCormick is in conversation with Brit Bennett, author of The Mothers.

“Success in the sport is, above all else, about enduring suffering.” Chris McCormick, two time Iron Man World Champion Welcome to the Sensory Strides podcast. The heat is back and my speed seems to have come with it. Wed I had to do 4.5 miles in 86 degree heat. I had an amazing run and averaged 13:36 minutes which is amazing for me! Saturday I had a choice between heading to Winona and riding with my tri team on the Triona course or riding in Westby’s bike ride for their community celebration. While riding with a group is important for me and improving my speed, I choose to sleep in until 7 and then got up and watched the Royal wedding for an hour or so and then headed out and just did a ride on my own. My bike speed isn’t at the 14 mph average I need for the race this summer, but I am improving and hope to make that goal. I am more comfortable riding and maintaining the higher speeds on the flats, but if there is a hill, my speed drops way down. At least I know where my focus needs to be. I also added strength training back into my workouts. I have to strengthen those core muscles! When I had been doing strength training before I was injured, I had really noticed the improvement in my arms and am hopeful I get that back. I love strong arms! Thanks for joining me this week. “A lot of the time, you could win a lot of games and there may not be any impact from strength and conditioning. You might see them one time a week in the in season, but they go undefeated in conference play. OR, we know strength coaches that do an awesome job and then they don’t win a lot of games and they’re not part of a team that wins a lot of games.”
Today we are joined by former Gardner-Webb University Director of Athletic Performance Chris McCormick to talk about real world issues that he has seen as a director. Chris starts out by sharing with us what issues that we, as a profession, need to bring to the forefront about what we do. This leads right into us talking about culture and how that, and the players personalities, need to dictate training programs as much as the need for actual measurable results. Chris then shares with us how he uses open discussion with athletes and coaches to help impact what and how they program, along with how they can serve “two masters” by taking both of their incite. We finish discussing the connection between running your weight room like a business and athlete monitoring and how they connect in communication with our departments. ENJOY THE CONTENT? The Geothermal Development Facility for Latin America (“GDF” or the “Fund”) is privately managed, Mauritius-based foundation with an initial capitalization of €50 million from the German government (KfW) and the European Union (EU). Other investment in a similar collective amount from multilateral development financial institutions (CAF, IDB, World Bank, CABEI, Norfund, AFB, DFID etc.) is under consideration. GDF's purpose is to provide early stage grant funding for geothermal development in 10 countries in Latin America in order to overcome the significant exploration cost hurdles which curtail the economic development of geothermal project. The funding will support surface studies and early stage drilling (first 3 wells) with a goal to create 350MW of geothermal power in the region at an estimated capital requirement of between €1.5 and 2.0 billion when fully deployed. By addressing exploration the fund will facilitate subsequent sources of Development Finance Institution (DFI) funding to support the commercialization of the proven geothermal resource, and GDF is a catalyst to reaching a stage where those funds can be mobilized. The foundation is managed by U.S.-based IDA Fund Management, LLC (“IDA”), which is a consortium consisting of Interlink Capital Strategies, the Dewhurst Group and Chris McCormick from Ambata Capital. These are well-known professional service companies actively involved in structured finance in emerging markets and geothermal development, which won an international tender conducted by KfW in the 2nd quarter of 2016. The formal launch of GDF will be in the fourth quarter of 2016, with the first solicitation for proposals to occur before or within the first quarter of 2017.
