Monica Pitts, founder of MayeCreate Design and host of the "Marketing with Purpose" podcast brought her energy and humor to this conversation about your website.    Like me, she considers it a critical part of your overall marketing. Authenticity and Realness: She emphasizes the importance of using real images instead of stock photos and writing website content in your own authentic voice. Being genuine helps customers connect with you. Storytelling: Your business is unique. Even in a cluttered industry, you need to find your unique stories and tell it on your website instead of using generic marketing language. Consistency: Once you embrace your unique voice, you need to maintain it is message across all platforms, from your website and social media, to in person interactions.  This cohesive brand experience helps prospective customers understand who they will really be working with. Not everyone will appreciate your unique voice.  That's ok, the ones who do, will make the best customers. Practical Tips for Content:  Content is everywhere.  One great source are you sales and customer service teams. Every day they hear the questions customers want answered.  Use the questions and answers to fuel your content. Website Performance: Speed is everything.  Beyond the great content and effective conversion forms, your website must be driven by a powerful and fast engine to deliver information to visitors quickly, before they click away What To Put On Your Website - A page-by-page website content checklist. Back for part 2. Last week Rishad Tobaccowala gave us some insight on staying human in the age of data. This week, he's expanding that conversation by discussing what he calls the "ABCDE of Marketing Re-invented" (access link for Rishad's blog). Rishad's ABCDE framework for how marketing has changed and continues to change is used as a way for him to help guide people he advises. He believes that this is the future of marketing, below are descriptions for his framework as discussed in another can't-miss episode:a. Audience: Who we are marketing to, how we find them and their mindset has shifted greatly over the past decade.b. Brands: Brands continue to be important but the way they are built is changing greatly. Today Experiences, Purpose, and Employee Joy matter the most in building brands. These changes explain the long-term secular decline of advertising and communication but the renaissance and rise of marketing.c. Content: Content has always been a key to marketing. The three big differences are that there is much more of it, it is far faster and there are many new ways of making it.d. Data: Data is key to the future of marketing. It is like electricity. Without electricity, one can not keep the lights on. Without strong data, a company cannot compete. It is necessary. But it is not sufficient. Because just like few companies differentiate themselves by how they use electricity, very few companies will find a competitive edge in data. It will be a key ingredient and not the be-all or end-all of strategy. And very few companies will be able to live on their own data.e. Enterprise: If a company is to deliver experiences in a world of people with god-like power while steering itself with a purpose and looking after its stakeholders particularly its employees but also making sure it delivers tangible results today it will new to sculpt itself into a new form by building new muscles.Conquer Local is presented by Vendasta. In this episode of content marketing 101, I talk about why it is important to not hide your personality in your content. You might feel insecure about showing your true self online whether that's on video, written word, or even audio. But the real truth is you need to make sure you share your real personality with the world. I break down three things that you need to consider when it comes to showing your personality in your content marketing.  You are uniqueYou are unique! There are people similar to you but no one is exactly the same. And it is this uniqueness that allows people to stand out. When you start to embrace this idea that you are not a sheep in a herd but in fact somebody who has a unique voice to share with the world and this is going to catapult your content to new heights.  Stand out for the right reasonsThe digital age is here to stay! And everything you say online once it's out there is there printed in stone. So make sure you stand out for the right reasons. Share your talents and skills with the world and do not use social media as a way to vent your frustrations or air your dirty laundry in public. This stuff will come back and haunt you no one caresThe hard truth is that no one cares about you as much as you! That might sound negative but it's actually a massive positive. When you can embrace this mindset that no one cares as much as you then you start to realize that it's as long as you enjoy the content and enjoy the message that you are creating then that's all that matters. If you are trying to constantly please other people the reality is most the time I'll never even notice.   So to summarise! You are awesome and you should start showing the world just how great you really are!! If you found this episode useful check out the following areas ✅FREE Masterclass https://ashborland.teachable.com/p/personal-branding-masterclass ✅1-2-1 Content Marketing Coaching (FREE Discovery Call)  - https://ashborland.com/coachingSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/ashborland)

How Internal Communication Drives Marketing ROI

Modern Marketing Engine podcast hosted by Bernie Borges

Most CMOs favor external communications (demand generation, content marketing, etc.) over internal communications. Why? Because these external activities seem to create more measurable ROI. However, with the modern workforce internal communications are now more important than ever to motivate and activate people within the organization to be a channel of communication. My guest in this episode of the Modern Marketing Engine podcast, Mark Derks, has great insights about how much effort marketing should put into internal communications. Mark is the CMO at BlueGrace Logistics. Founded in 2009, BlueGrace Logistics is one of the fastest growing leaders of transportation management services in North America. As a full service third party logistics provider (3PL), BlueGrace helps businesses manage their freight spend through industry-leading technology, high-level freight carrier relationships and overall understanding of the complex $750 Billion U.S. freight industry. Listen to our conversation to learn the pros and cons of allocating resources to internal communications versus external communications. Five Pillars to Develop a Profitable Internal Communications Strategy 1. Develop your strategy/goals. Any successful program must identify the goals it is trying to achieve and the strategy and tactics to get there. Ask yourself these questions about your internal communications: Is it going to be multi-touch? How frequently will I communicate to the organization? At what velocity will information be shared? Some examples of goals are:  Having 100% of your internal resources know and being able to recite your mission, vision and values.  Having your internal resources know your company revenue projections and targets and your gross profit targets. “I think that our own internal resources and our own people are a marketing channel for the company,” Mark says. “You should build a strategy around and goals around things that bring strong results. So there has to be a metric if you're going to engage in a robust internal comms plan. What are the key factors to success and what are the metrics that you as an organization are going to agree on that you can either identify as a success or identify those gaps where you need to continue to refine and improve.” 2. Mission/Vision/Values Mark says that case studies have shown, organizations who have stated missions, visions and that drive stated values are higher performing than businesses that do not, because they build a strong culture around those pillars.  “We're empowering our employees to share public information that they've learned through internal communications to our external customers,” Mark says. “And to be really successful, you have to make it easily accessible to all employees. We need to make it available in multiple places, on our website, in our hallways and on the signage and our offices.” 3. “How does my job contribute to the company’s success?” “We have to look at our organizations where every employee adds value and it's our job through internal communications to tell them how they do that, to make sure that they know how their specific job leads to company growth.” Highly engaged employees are those that understand how their contributions help the company grow. And when they know that, they become more creative, more productive, more innovative, and they're more successful in their own professional goals and what they're trying to do. 4. Content Content is at the intersection of external communications and internal comms, sharing content between teams and channels. Not all internal communications can go externally, but almost all external communications can be shared internally. You can take the content that you share with your customers, partners, suppliers and share it with your internal teams through an employee advocacy program. Mark says that will make them better service providers, better salespeople, better marketers. Listen to the whole episode to learn some great ideas on how to repurpose marketing content for internal comms. 5. How does the CMO lead the internal communication strategy? “Make sure you have a solid strategy and stated goals that you're pursuing and that everybody knows,” Mark says. “So when we measure our efforts we can clearly come back and see if we've been meeting our goals. So be a leader of strategy, focus on what's important, communicate that strategy, clearly measure the impact and ROI.”  As the CMO you don't do this by yourself. “You're a leader, but you have teams, so consider allocating head count as a resource to internal communications. Consider adding resources around culture and standing up things like diversity, equity and inclusion programs within your company. Make sure that you're communicating critical attributes of your ideal customer profile.” Your employees are one of our best external marketing channels, but they're only good if they have internal comms that have educated them on messaging, target customer profile, new products, new customers, changes within the organization, mission, vision, and values. Don’t miss this episode to learn more about finding a balance between external and internal communications and how to develop a profitable strategy.

The content of your heart is what your heart contains. Are you content? Same spelling, different meaning. We distinguish these words only by the syllable we stress. Words are amazing, don't you think? If you are content, (satisfied, happy, at peace,) it is because of the content of your heart. If the content of your heart is anxiety, fear, envy and anger, it is difficult to be content. Who determines the content of your heart? Is it you? We can assume, I think, that the content of your heart will be whatever you have chosen to put in it. What have you put in it? Is there anything in there you might want to take out? Sadly, our success-driven culture considers a person who is content to be somehow deficient. We are supposed to be driven, never satisfied, always fighting for more, for better, for higher, am I right? But the golden carrot that is dangled before our donkey eyes is that we might someday be content. Oh, what a cruel master is that bastard with his carrot and his stick! Wait, the bastard is me. The 5 C's Of Personal Branding Are: Clarity Cohesive Consistent Content Community   Let's dive a little deeper and take a look at what each word represents for personal branding. Clarity A personal brand must have clarity.  Clarity, according to Miriam Webster is the quality or state of being clear.  When you are creating a personal brand, you must have clarity on the following items: What you do Who you serve; who your ideal audience is What problem you solve for your audience and clients Why you do what you do There should be no doubt on your part or the audience's part about what you do, who you serve and how you will help them, what problem you solve.   This is especially true for people in service industries.   If you do not have a product that has a specific use for a specific population, people will not understand who you are and what you do unless you represent yourself and your services with complete clarity. Cohesive Personal brands must be cohesive across all platforms, from websites to social media accounts.   One simple way you can achieve a cohesive feel for your personal brand is to use the same profile picture, preferably a professional headshot, on each platform. Your copy should also be cohesive.  Think of your copy and images as the glue that holds all of your messages together to efficiently represent who you are, what you do and who you serve so that the know like and trust factor can be achieved.   When personal brands are not cohesive, people do not get to know them, do not like them and do not develop trust for them.  Without trust, people will not purchase your service or product. Consistent Being consistent is similar to being cohesive.   You want your messages, visual and copy, to be consistent across all platforms.   In addition, you want to show up consistently.   You cannot expect to grow a personal brand if you are only showing up some of the time.   Your audience cannot get to know you, like you and trust you if you don't show up on a regular basis.   Realizing this is time consuming, prioritize the platforms you believe your ideal audience is on and focus your efforts on those platforms.  You can repurpose content from week to week so that it isn't so overwhelming.   For example, what you post on Instagram today, can put be on Facebook next week.  You should also publish a blog post at least once a week.   Your blog posts should be 300 to 900 words for the best chance of Google finding them.   Remember that you own your blog so it is very important to have your valuable content housed there.  If you are only going to post one place and only once a week, post to your blog and then share the link on your social media pages.   Once you have created a blog, you can easily repurpose the content from the blog for mini posts on social media.   I am also a firm believer in sharing your content on LinkedIN.  You can repurpose your blog posts as LinkedIn long posts.   This is an added bonus for search engine optimization, SEO.      Also be sure to share your blog posts to Pinterest.   Pinterest is also a search engine.  You want to take advantage of as many eyes seeing your content as possible.  The more traffic you drive to your website, the higher your Google rankings will grow organically.      Content Content is queen!   The 4thof the 5 C's of personal branding is content.   I've hinted to this above, but you need to have valuable, consistent and cohesive content.   Your content should help your audience understand what you do, what problem you solve and who you solve that problem for.    Content is the end all be all for creating an emotional connection with your audience and developing the know, like and trust factor.   You need high quality visual and written content.  Professional photography demonstrates to your audience that you care about quality and professionalism.  Good lighting and smiles can make all the difference for connecting with your audience.   Written content should be engaging and valuable.   You are an expert in your niche.  Share your expertise to build a foundation of trust with your audience.  Be sure to share your WHY.  Your WHY is more important than how you do what you do.    Watch Simon Sinek's Ted Talk to learn more about the importance of WHY.      Community Your personal brand will not be a success without your community!  I am not talking about your neighborhood, but your on-line community.   Yes, of course your neighbors and friends are important, but are they the people that are going to buy from you?  Maybe, but eventually, when they have all purchased your services you will need to find more clients.   Where are you going to find more?  By growing a community on-line. Let's face it.  We live in a digital world where most of our introductions are done on-line.   All of the first 4 C's of personal branding will help you create a community that engages with you, knows you, likes you and trusts you.  This community will ultimately be your paycheck so be sure and nurture them.  Provide valuable information for them, show them that you are the expert in your niche and get to know them as they get to know you!   Communicate with them, engage with them and build relationships with them so that they will not only become clients, but referral sources.  To learn more about me, your host, Robyn Graham, click HERE.     To learn about The Brand Insider by Robyn Graham, click HERE.     To connect with me, Robyn Graham: Website | Instagram | LinkedIN | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | Pinterest
