Happy 7th Birthday to the Sunday Basket®, let's all break out in song. Just kidding…I am so excited to tell you the Paper Organization Certification course is 20% off till April 1st. Once you have finished the certification and get your license, you can charge for your services and receive 30% commission on products you sell. Once upon a time I was a very frustrated mama. Joey was only 6 months old and Abby was 2. Lil Joey didn't like to nap very long and I had a pile of actionable papers but no time to go through them much less accomplish anything. One night the Sunday Basket® was born. I knew the more planned, organized, and efficient with my time I could multiply the amount of tasks I could conquer. Links below to hear the evolution of the Sunday Basket®. Once the Sunday Basket® took off and people were implementing it in their lives they were longing for more training. So I started to offer workshops. But I knew in my heart of hearts that with the growth of my company, there would not be enough Lisa one day. That's when the opportunity to become a certified paper organizer started to be offered. Some people can DIY it and implement it successfully. Some people, like me, prefer 1:1 explanations and don't mind paying for the speed of implementation. And yet others want to be tricked into it with a little get together, snacks, music, and friends. I used to be a part of Creative Memories, a scrapbooking company. I loved our monthly Friday night workshops and envisioned the certified organizers taking a playbook from Creative Memories. We had such rich connections and were really doing life with each other. And with simply learning to ask “Can this wait till Sunday?” you have a safe place to hold all your actionable papers till Sunday and externalize all the things you want to do. When people come to the paper organizing retreats that are just one day mind you, they walk away with friends. It is a non-judgmental space. It's a safe place to ask questions about the paper you have with you. Lots of times another attendee has organized the type of paper in question. And it's through those conversations that friendships are developed. Depending on the stage of life you are in, it can be really hard to make friends. I think of how my mom and myself have made friends over the years. I have never really been in the phase of life to plan or attend girls nights out. Those Creative Memory workshops were that for me. And the Paper Organizing Retreat or the other in person event may be that for you. 50% of the people attending are usually settling an estate which can be isolating and lonely and sometimes it's their spouses. You can't make friends in the walls of your homes. 5 years after COVID, it's time to get back to in person events. People are in need of people more than ever right now. And it's us, the people and community of Organize 365® that makes it so unique. So if you are interested, you have the heart of a teacher or a friend, and you want to become a Certified Paper Organizer now is your time!! You will be certified in the Sunday Basket®, and the Financial, Medical, Household Reference, and Household Operation Binders. Once you are certified, you can even add on certifications like The Friday Workbox®, Teacher Workbox, and The Productive Home solution. We need more certified paper organizers! If you want to take it a step further, become a professional organizer; we have a course for that too called POTT START, check it out. If you just need to talk it out or ask more questions please reach out to customer service at customerservice@organize365.com. Be Bold & PersevereHebrews 10:36 "You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”This was one of the verses I typed for our August discernment notes for the Prayer Group. The message translation came up when I looked up the verse on biblegateway.com to check out different versions. I love the message translation because it puts it in our current terms. It takes what the Bible says and uses common everyday language to tell us what they are talking about. Another thing it does is group verses together. So, instead of having verse 36, it had verses 32-39 all lumped together. This way, you don't take any verses out of context. I don't always use this translation when writing the devotional, but I frequently look at it to ensure I understand what is being said. Today, I didn't intend to look up the message translation; it just came up, and the verses blew me away. When I get a verse, I often read it before and after it. When I do this, I sometimes switch to those verses. The verses before this one give us much more context into what this verse means. Here is the message translation for Hebrews 10:32-36, “Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times! Kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse—some days it was you, other days your friends. If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them. If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn't touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back. So don't throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It's still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God's plan so you'll be there for the promised completion.”I loved these verses because they explain how hard it can be to stick with something. When we start something new, we are excited and go all in, or at least I do. I always want to do it because it is new and exciting. Even if it is hard work, it can still be exciting, and we can still be motivated. However, what about when it is not new or exciting anymore? Think about a hobby you started. You were so excited about it that you bought all the things to go with it and did it all the time. When I got married, my neighbor started selling Creative Memories scrapbooking supplies. To support her, I started a scrapbook for Tony and me. Then, when I had kids, I got more into scrapbooking. I would stay up late doing it. My fellow moms and I would have scrapbooking nights going well into the mornings. I bought more and more stuff, and I loved it. Then, as I had more kids and they got to ages where they were into more stuff, I slowly got away from scrapbooking. Now, I have two bookshelves full of supplies, and I rarely ever scrapbook. I also got into running during COVID-19, and I was excited to go out and run. Not excited every day, but excited enough to get myself out there. I don't think I ran much at all this past year. Our interests come and go. Our relationship with the Lord should remain a constant in our lives. The letters to the various communities in the New Testament addressed the people of the early church. Jesus came here to set up a new kingdom in this world. This religion was new and exciting. It was familiar in some ways and radically different in other ways. People were excited, and they were all in at first. People were excited about this new religion, and yet it was not an easy life for those who believed in Christ. Nowadays, if you believe in Christ, you may have some persecution, but nothing like they received back at the beginning.Right after Christ died, there was a lot of persecution. Many could not openly worship, and if they were caught, they were put in jail or they were killed. Peter was crucified, Paul was beheaded, Andrew was also crucified, Thomas was pierced through with spears, Philipp was arrested and cruelly put to death, Matthew was stabbed to death, Bartholomew was a martyr for the Gospel, James was stoned and then clubbed to death, Simon, the zealot, was killed after refusing to sacrifice to the sun god, Matthias was burned to death, & John was the only one to die of natural causes. It was not easy to be a Christian when these letters were being written. This is why the early church fathers wrote letters to their people. They wanted to encourage them to keep believing. These verses do just that. “Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times! Kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse—some days it was you, other days your friends. If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them.” This reminds them of how they felt when they first came to know Christ. They are reminding them that times were hard even from the beginning, and yet they followed Christ anyway. They were kicked around, and they were abused in all sorts of ways, and yet the Lord was still with them, and they were still with Him. It also reminds them that they stuck together. If their friend were in trouble, they did not desert them. They were right by their side.Next, the verses remind them how they felt when they were full of the Lord. “If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn't touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you. Nothing set you back.” This verse reminds them of where the source of their joy is. Our joy is not found in our possessions. It is found in the Lord. If we have the Lord in our hearts, we don't care about worldly possessions because we know we can't take those with us. We know that we have the best gift, the Spirit of Christ. No one can take that away from us.The verse says, “So don't throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It's still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God's plan so you'll be there for the promised completion.” This part reminds them that the time has not yet come. We need to stay in the fight. We have done so well for so long and must keep moving forward. We need to keep relying on God and defending God. We need to keep resting in the Lord. The verse reminds them that we can be just as sure of God today as we were when we first found Him. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He was there for us then and will be there tomorrow. We can count on that. The verse I chose for today states, “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” This is a powerful reminder that we are all called to do something. What is God calling you to do? It also reminds us that God has made promises to us. When we have done the will of God, we will receive what He has promised us. That is pretty amazing! We just have to persevere. When it gets tough, and we feel we can't keep going, we need to ask the Lord to help us. His power is made perfect in our weakness. We are never in this alone. The Holy Spirit lives inside of us, and that means we have the power of Jesus Christ living inside of us.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we love you and want to persevere in following you. We want to not only follow you, we want to bring you to all those we meet. Please help us, Lord. Please help us to stand up when we are persecuted. Help us to defend you, even when it is hard. Help us to keep going when we think we can't. Lord, I ask you to help bring wisdom and clarity to your children. We pray especially for your children who have left the church because of the actions of some involved in the church. Lord, help them to see that the church is made up of broken people, but that does not make it a broken church. Bring them back to your loving embrace, Lord! We also pray for all those with mental health disorders, Lord. Please break through the enemy's lies and tell them how loved they are! We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. We start a new month of mentoring tomorrow night. I hope you will join us! I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! “We have a hard time just wanting what we want.” Transformational Freedom is my driving force through personal development and unapologetic gumption to pursue the things I want. Our houses are holding us back. When we feel like we are taking care of our primary role of household manager, spouse, and parent, then we feel free to pursue what we want. 4 Generations of Ambitious Women When you have a great grandmother who gets her teaching degree because it's the only degree a woman can get, you learn to succeed despite limitations. She went on to run a floral shop, a restaurant, and a gift shop which is definitely not what other women were doing those days. AND she divorced her husband! And then you have a grandmother who gets her Home Economics degree because again, limitations. And see her and her husband start a student loan - ish business, you see an example of a woman not waiting for permission. But then goes on to set an even greater example when she remarries and starts up a home economic kit mail order business of sorts out of her home. Like how did people order? She figured it out because it's what she wanted to do. And a mother like mine. She was so focused on business. She started The Fine Line out of our basement and created cases of clothes she bought one weekend in NYC. She did that for 6 years and then sold it for a profit. Didn't Get Permission, I Went After What I Wanted Which gave me the gumption to start my own babysitting business. The examples of women in my life I saw growing up didn't wait for permission to pursue what they were uniquely created to do. I didn't wait for permission or see someone else doing it. No, I paved my own path to filling up my summer calendar with baby sitting positions. I saw a need and solved a problem for moms who needed to get tasks done and take care of themselves per my suggestion. I used my unique skills of loving children to make money on my terms. Transformational Freedom At Organize 365® we say “As you let go of one thing, you are open to receiving the next. We strive to unlock your life's purpose through the process of decluttering, organizing, and increasing productivity.” You also don't know what you haven't experienced. I acknowledge that if you haven't seen, for example, a healthy marriage then you don't believe they exist and don't know what they look like. I love the Organize 365® community for this reason. Hopefully you are hearing healthy examples on the podcast and then being exposed to more in the community. Community opens our eyes to possibilities. And because we don't believe in those possibilities, we cling to what we currently have. That's why it's so important to acknowledge letting go of one thing, only to experience something even better. Remember this life is not happening to us, it's happening for us. Permission Granted Greg didn't flinch when I told him I was going to quit because he knew I would make money still. I had replaced my teaching salary with Creative Memories and planned to grow my organizing business to contribute to the family finances. In my organizing experiences, one client broke down when the last area was done, saying she could finally go back to work. What? The emotional weight of our homes on us women is great. Ladies, our houses hold us back because whether or not you work, you view your household manager role as primary. Organize 365® is here to get you decluttered and organized so you can be productive. Here is your permission to explore what you want and to pursue it. Fly out of your golden cage. Return as much as you want but you are free. Permission granted. On this episode Ariel is joined by Eileen Vierra to talk about memory books and how they can keep alive the memory of somebody you love who has passed or keep memories alive for those with dementia. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's important to tell stories, but it's also important to write them down. When my grandmother had dementia I created a 7x'' book for her reminding her who people were. People with dementia remember really old memories, not current ones which is fascinating because you think that memories fade when you get old. The sense of smell in the brain is close to the memory centre in the brain. That's why, if you walk into a place & you smell cookies, it can take you back in time to when you were a little kid, or when you smell someone's perfume & it reminds you of your grandmother. Celebration of Life books are important for a couple of different reasons: They give you a place to go to relive somebody who's special in your life that has passed. Sometimes photos drive the book and other times text drives the book. You can also do them for pets. You can also put generational information in the book about who the person was, who their parents were, where they were born, names, dates, family information & history. Not only do you then have that information but so does your whole family, especially if you make copies of it and share it with them. It tells the story of their life, their businesses and how they changed over time. BEST MOMENTS “Looking at scrapbooks and memory books illicits memories from the past.” “Photos take you back in time, they're like tickets to the past.” “The process of making the books can be really therapeutic for people.” “Nostalgia is good for people's psychology & their social wellbeing.” ABOUT THE GUEST Eileen Vierra has worked in many different industries, from banking to teaching, & even as a tour guide for T-Mobile Park & the Seattle Mariners. But, through her life, one thing has remained constant: Scrapbooking. She loves creating things that tell a story, that can be held & felt, that are cherished for years to come. Eileen then learned about Creative Memories where she could create scrapbooks for others. She quickly realized that her business was going to beyond selling products, she wanted to see how to do it for themselves. So, she set up Saturday Workshops for them & later ‘Coffee Crops' daytime workshops & more recently, Weekend Scrapbooking Retreats. Eileen considers herself an educator, a scrapbooker, & a facilitator who doesn't just provide the supplies but shows people how to use them. I want to introduce you to another educator that is embracing the Teacher Friday Workbox® and values the benefits teachers experience when using it. Anna found Organize 365® through podcast interviews I'd done on other shows. Anna knows the transformation that results from the physical products and the blitzes from Organize 365®. Turns out, I could have known Anna many years ago when her mom was a Creative Memories consultant. Her mother's innovation with power layouts in scrapbooking helped me to create many scrapbooks in very short amounts of time. Anna always knew she wanted to be a teacher. She shared memories of teaching her younger brother after an enriching day at kindergarten herself. Anna, now in education in a supporting role outside the school buildings (NOT how you may imagine), values the Teacher Friday Workbox® so much that she created a college course for educators that she will be facilitating that results in 3 college credits at Ashland University. Anna did go to college to be a teacher, but got pulled in a different path. As she “created her own degree,” Anna got to experience emerging adulthood first hand. This is yet another point of connection for Anna and me. After completing her graduate degree at University of Maryland, she moved back to Ohio. While starting her new life she started a small sewing business. She took a substitute teacher position which turned into a Family and Consumer Science (AKA Home Economics) teaching position for the next 6 years. During the pandemic, she created virtual/visual teaching materials for teachers. All of the teachers were looking for help and Anna was right there supporting them. Her next move? She was experiencing a golden window, what better time is there to explore? Over the past year, Anna has had the freedom to explore many opportunities. During her exploration she took courses from Ashland University. She was so impressed with her experience that she approached them and said “Hey, how about I come work for you?” Anna's transition from being a classroom teacher to becoming an adjunct professor at Ashland University in Ohio is a testament to her dedication to education. Equally, her involvement with Organize 365® highlights her ongoing commitment to addressing teacher overwhelm and burnout through practical, curriculum-aligned support. Anna has been very intrigued with the flow theory. She explained it as a task that challenges you enough to stay engaged. And also not so challenging that your desire to stay engaged dwindles. She wants to keep exploring this in her efforts to support teachers. This initiative, along with the new course she created, embodies her belief in equipping teachers with tools to manage their workloads effectively, thereby extending their careers and enriching student learning experiences. Next week we'll be talking about the white paper Anna has created for Organize 365® and explore even more ways to support teachers in their essential work. I've been talking a lot about planning lately - an obscene amount honestly, but that's ok. Ironically, today is Workbox Planning Day! We're starting off the month getting those purple projects completed and ready for more GREEN in 2024! In today's episode I talk about how this week I'd love for you to come up with a list of planned neglect. It's been a long time since I've talked about planned neglect. I remember the first time I ever heard about this concept at a Creative Memories conference. I want you to think about all of the things that you've done for the past 11 months of this year. Out of all those things, what are the things that you are NOT going to do in order to create more margin, more bandwidth, more breathing room for you to actually enjoy the holidays and enjoy the end of this year? Really, honestly think about it - what are the things that you are going to purposefully put off from right now until the end of January? Just like right now with getting my PhD, I know I'm neglecting a lot of things in my life for the next 2 years (I'm almost done with year 1!) This doesn't mean I'll never do those things again, just not right now. Figure out what you can do, when you can do it, and how long it is going to take. What are all the roles and responsibilities that you have inside of your life and what are things you can do to make those easier? So don't throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It's still a sure thing! I want to let you know that I have decided to start the group coaching in January instead of November. I realize we are entering a hectic season for many people. Most people I know can't add anything to their plate right now, even if it is a good thing. So, I will start the group coaching in January and take these next two months to talk about it and answer any questions.I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day!
The year was 2007. And I was ROADKILL. Unexpected life events had run me over. Divorce had unexpectedly hit my family. My father was in poor health. I was raising young children with medical diagnosis. I had attended one HUNDRED and ten doctors appointments. I came unglued. I reached my breaking point. There I was standing in my kitchen. Not making sense. Tapping on a cabinet. Greg swooped in and got the kids out of the house. As I stood there pleading with myself, “You've got to get it together, Lisa!” I went upstairs to my room to figure out why I felt like I was falling apart. At the time, I had a physical planner. I flipped backwards through my planner and realized a pattern. I was spending so much time at doctor's appointments. I started to tally it up and found that in the past year, I had gone to 110 doctor's appointments. Doctor's appointments are not only time consuming, but they are expensive. So at the same time, I had become a “jill of all trades.” I was running my Creative Memories business, cleaning houses, organizing, tutoring, working for Scholastic book fairs and several other direct sales related jobs. No wonder I was falling behind and apart. When it rains, it pours. My Sunday Basket® became my umbrella. I was overwhelmed. And I was being pushed to new limits. But I wasn't disorganized. I cannot even imagine what this phase of my life would have looked like if I had not already had my Sunday Basket® system and routine in place. I was not home much at all during this phase of life, but I always had my Sunday Basket® with me. Which meant I was able to still be productive while waiting at the doctor's office or in the car pick-up line. This helped me keep up when life started moving way too fast. The year was 2007. And I was ROADKILL. Unexpected life events had run me over. Divorce had unexpectedly hit my family. My father was in poor health. This week, I want to teach you all about the green slash pockets in the Friday Workbox System. Green slash pockets are for financial responsibilities and repetitive administrative tasks. At first, I thought green slash pockets were optional. I worked in direct sales for a long time, and I realized that most direct sellers did not look at the financial side of the business. We had a passion for the products and companies we were representing, but did not pay attention to the money. Unfortunately, many of us were not making enough sales to be profitable, and it was also easy to spend money faster than it came in on new samples and gifts. Creative Memories introduced me to the idea of looking at my business finances on a monthly basis. By keeping my sales and purchases organized, I was able to know every month if I was making a profit or experiencing a loss. This simple financial organization was the inspiration for the Organize 365® Annual Income & Expense Binder. Money in the door isnot profit, and it is vital to update the financial situation of a business at least monthly to ensure your financial picture is realistic. Not everyone owns a small business or deals with financial tasks as a part of their work. When not used for finances, the green slash pockets are repetitive administrative tasks that need attention on a regular basis. Tasks repeat at different intervals in different work settings, but consider what tasks you do over and over every day, week, month, quarter, and year. Creating checklists and systems for ensuring these repeating tasks are handled will improve your efficiency and productivity. As you begin to reach your maximum capacity at work, I recommend hiring an administrative assistant or an executive assistant. These staff members can begin to take over these repetitive administrative tasks, especially those that are easy to explain and delegate. Training someone to handle your email, calendar, correspondence, and errands is an investment in leveling up your own capacity for your most important work. Having your checklists established helps ensure your assistant is cost-effective. Despite having over twenty team members at Organize 365®, there are administrative tasks I must do every single week. I share more detail in the podcast, but I still need to ensure that every week I make time for email, errands and orders, checklists, and my Friday Workbox. My Friday Workbox time is not optional. This is the time when I review all of my slash pockets and active projects, update my calendar, plan time to work on each slash pocket in the upcoming week, and update all of my meeting agendas. I need to ensure I move projects forward so our company stays healthy. Effective and productive work is the result of good habits and systems. If you want to succeed at work, your green (administrative) work is not optional.
On this episode Ariel is joined by Eileen Vierra, founder and chief creation officer of her company Memory Books By Eileen. She is a professional memory book maker as well as sells memory book supplies and hosts workshops and classes for people who want to create their own scrapbooks and photobooks. She’s been working on her own albums for over 40 years and has been in this industry professionally for 20 years. KEY TAKEAWAYS Scrapbooking isn’t just gluing pictures into a book, there are digital scrapbooks and even hybrid ones. We can even do workshops over Zoom, not just in person. One of the things that people said in 2020 was that they were so thrilled being able to get together every week to do this over Zoom while they couldn’t go out and see each other during the lockdowns. Anything creative is therapeutic, it works the right side of your brain, it relaxes you, but reliving your memories is especially therapeutic. I find, especially, that after someone has passed and I make a book for them it helps me process my emotions while I’m making the book. Then I have something I go to to visit that person. My top tip to preserve our memories: Organize your pictures in one place like your phone or computer, but especially on a cloud system – Forever is a good platform as, unlike iCloud, is allows others to access them if you want them to and they can order prints and canvasses and they guarantee the images will be safe up to 100 years after your death. BEST MOMENTS “Not only do we get to relive and enjoy our memories, we get to share them with each other.” “Our books don’t contain lignin or acids that degrade the pages over time, and we sell protective covers and edges, so the pages don’t get damaged.” “People have contacted me to say how thrilled they are to get these books, so much so that they’ve invited other people over to see them.” ABOUT THE GUEST Eileen Vierra has worked in many different industries, from banking to teaching, and even as a tour guide for T-Mobile Park and the Seattle Mariners. But, through her life, one thing has remained constant: Scrapbooking. She loves creating things that tell a story, that can be held and felt, that are cherished for years to come. Eileen then learned about Creative Memories where she could create scrapbooks for others. She quickly realized that her business was going to beyond selling products, she wanted to see how to do it for themselves. So, she set up Saturday Workshops for them and later ‘Coffee Crops’ daytime workshops and more recently, Weekend Scrapbooking Retreats. Eileen considers herself an educator, a scrapbooker, and a facilitator who doesn’t just provide the supplies but shows people how to use them. The older you get and the more #adulting you do, the more you realize there are taxes for everything. There are almost as many kinds of taxes as there are kinds of insurance. When I was younger, and taxes seemed easier, I used to do our taxes myself using TurboTax. Now, our finances are much more complicated, and we use an accountant to file our taxes. However, I have a process that lets me get my paperwork ready in three to four hours total! When I was an in home professional organizer, I saw many people request extension on their personal income tax filings. Not because they didn’t know how to do their taxes. Not because they didn’t have the money to pay the taxes. All because they did not have their tax documentation in order. They have to get their paperwork under control in order to complete their taxes. I want to help you become proactive instead of reactive in approaching your taxes, so today I am sharing some of my own processes for making taxes easy. I always work on my taxes in February (usually during the Super Bowl). Back when I was a Creative Memories consultant, I learned to organize my business taxes using the IRS Schedule C categories. First, every January 1, I add a green slash pocket to my Sunday Basket® labeled “Taxes” to keep all of my incoming paperwork together and organized. As I have shared before, I recommend you make your decisions in advance whenever possible. Establish habits and routines to reduce decision fatigue. Here are my lessons to make tax time easier. If you have a business, figure out how you will categorize expenses related to Schedule C categories. A few years ago, I made a cheatsheet of my categories and how I group expenses to keep my categories uniform from year to year. I also recommend making checklists for yourself of annual tasks (writing down mileage for vehicles) and for the papers you are expecting in the mail (income, mortgage, bank, investment statements). Keep up with recording your expenses monthly. I recommend the Organize 365 Income and Expense Binder as your one place to keep your receipts, documentation, and to track your expenses. This way you will know how your expenses are affecting your profitability every month and can adjust as needed. Record your income monthly. This will help you to recognize the many ways you are generating income in your business and you can adjust where you spend your energy so that you are focusing on the most effective parts of your business. If you spend a few hours each month, then at the end of the year you can do your inventory counts and be ready for tax time. The Organize 365 Income and Expense Binder is what I have used in all of my businesses to keep track of income, expenses, and mileage. If you do not have a similar system set up for your business finances already, you can purchase this from our shop at https://organize365.com/product/annual-income-expense-binder I am excited to share my simple system for income taxes with you. However, I am not a tax advisor or accountant, so these are my personal thoughts. Please do not use them as tax advice and consult your own professional for information about your specific situation.
Are you expecting? Have you had a miscarriage? Unfortunately I had two miscarriages of my own. Listen to songs I chose for my babies while I was still pregnant and how I sang them in anticipation of their arrival and then to calm my babies once they were born. Gonna stalk me on social? What is your favorite song, and how do you connect with it? Is it when you fell in love, or through something really difficult? I'm your host Tiffany Mason. now join me as I interview others, and we take a walk down memory lane with them. Let's get lost in why that music matters to them. Turn up your radio and let's explore memories with a beat. Tiffany Hello podcast land. Today it's just gonna be you and me, and I want to share some songs that remind me of my babies. I have three children. I have Preston, Parker, and Hanna. And I think that they all have such unique stories with how they entered into my life. My first son is Preston Mason. And he is so much like me, literally, we always say the only difference is the anatomy. Because I can guess his next move before he makes it. I know exactly what he's thinking. Then Parker is all his daddy. And all the same mannerisms, same humor, same introverted-ness, just exactly like his dad. And then there's Hanna and she's probably just a little bit of both of us. They all bring so many different qualities or characteristics to the table that are so great in so many different ways. And I really appreciate everything that all three of them bring. I could never pick a favorite because you know "I like this one because they do that," or "like this one because it's more like that with this one," you know? So they're just unique in their own way and I love all three of them so much. The first baby I had was Preston, like I mentioned. My husband was actually on a guy's trip in Cancun. I just thought something was up, and so I thought "I'm going to go buy a test." And sure enough, I could not believe the two lines showing up. So my girlfriend was over at the time and we're both freaking out. And I'm like "Oh my gosh, what do I do?" My girlfriend said you know what, "Let him live it up. Let it be his last, you know, hurrah, and you can let him know the good news when he gets home." So, I flew to Minnesota, where he was flying to, and we met there and his mom and I went and picked him up from the airport. And the whole way home, I wanted to shout out "I'm pregnant." But I knew it wasn't obviously the right timing. So then, we got to his dad's house and he had his luggage with him. And I was like, you know, "Do you want to take your luggage downstairs? What do you think we probably should take your luggage downstairs, you know?" His dad and his step-mom, and him were like, "No, we're gonna go to dinner. Don't worry about the luggage, Tiffany." And all I could think like the entire dinner was "I'm pregnant." And I just kept wanting to say it over and over again. So, finally we got home from dinner, and Shawn decided it was time for him to bring his luggage downstairs. When we got downstairs, he gave me a gift. And it was, you know, a couple pieces of jewelry he had picked up from me and Cancun, which was so sweet and I was so thankful. And then I said "I have a gift for you too." And he was like "Whadya get me?" And so he opens up the card. And I don't remember exactly what it said but something to the effect of, you know, just how much I loved him and all that good stuff. And then he opened the gift. And the gift was 1000 perfect names for your perfect baby. Or maybe it's 1000 names for your perfect baby something to that extent. And he looked at me. And I was tearing up, and he just leaned in so sweetly and caring, and he just said, "It's gonna be okay." And he gave me a kiss on the forehead. So I have this little baby growing in me trying to figure out you, know how, I'm going to tell my family. And my sister had been trying to get pregnant for quite a while. We were actually meeting in Minnesota when I told Shawn, because we were going to drive south to my mother's wedding in Iowa. And in Iowa, I knew I would see my sister. And I knew I had to tell my sister before I told everybody else. I pulled her aside and told her, and of course she was completely devastated. And I don't blame her one bit. But she was she was sad and you know, she... that's what she wanted. She had gotten married. She went to school and she was ready to start her family and she has done everything in the right order. And she had gotten news that she would maybe never be able to have babies. Side note, she had three. She are pregnant on her own. I think she had to take Clomid. But she did end up getting pregnant on her own for the most part, and no IVF, no crazy fertility story, and no loss of multiple babies, so happy ending there. But it was just a little nerve racking nonetheless. And I remember once we had Preston that was even a little bit difficult for them as a couple. But you know once they had their own children. Life was good. So I tell you all of that to tell you that the song that I picked. While I was pregnant with Preston was by Savage Garden. It came out in 1999. And it's, "I knew I loved you before I met you." You know you haven't met your baby, so you don't know them. Some of the lyrics that I appreciate is "I know it might sound more than a little crazy, but I believe I knew I loved you before I met you. I think I dreamed you into life. I knew I loved you before I met you. I've been waiting all my life." When I was 18 and Shawn and I were just eating. He was saying, you know, I wish you were at home barefoot and pregnant. My mom was like "Whoa, hold the phone," you know. My mother was a teen mom, for her to hear those words, she knew she knows how difficult it is to have a child. And when you're 18, I think you just get wrapped up in the fantasy of having a child. So, she was good to caution me and just say, you know, "Hang on, wait till the timings right." We weren't necessarily trying for Preston, but we weren't really being that responsible either. So, I think we knew it was a good possibility that it could happen. So we had been waiting for Preston for a couple of years and just happy to be expecting, especially a boy! I think that that's just the best way to do it is to have a boy first. And of course there... it's not a choice, right? Like you just get what you get. But I was really pleased to find out that it was gonna be a little boy. I really appreciate the words "1000 angels dance around you. I'm complete now that I've found you." And I think that babies do get some kind of send off in Heaven. Right. I feel like the angels do dance around them and they bless them and God blesses their soul and sends them off to their parents. We'd gotten this blue rocking chair to, you know, feed the baby in the middle of the night and rock him to nap time and all that kind of stuff. Those things that you fantasize about before you have your first kid. And after you have your first child you realize it's a lot more than just that fantasy. I remember just so many times sitting in his room. He had this mobile that I don't know if you guys had babies around the year 2000 when Preston was born. But, there was Carter's baby set that was endorsed I guess by Elton John. And it had like a giraffe and an elephant and just some cute animals. And there was a... I think it's called a moonlight, where there's a light in the middle, and this film circles around the light and it ends up reflecting onto the wall. So I remember just turning that on, and turning on this song, and rubbing my belly dreaming of what that was going to be like to hold him in my arms. And be his mom and look into his eyes and, you know? I had imagined myself, so many times him in my belly and me picturing what he looked like scrunched up in my belly and how it was going to be so great to have him on the outside and scrunched up in my arms. And I just thought about that every time I heard that song. I guess I just keep thinking about that song. So if you guys have not listened to "I knew I loved you before I met you." It's just such a sweet song, and I just dream about those days when I was rubbing my belly and dreaming of meeting Preston. Thennnnnn, I had Parker. But before I had Parker, I had a miscarriage, which was no fun at all. I found out fairly early on. And I wasn't necessarily devastated by the miscarriage. I was young, I knew I could have babies I already had Preston. I don't know as though I was devastated by the miscarriage, but it was very sad, of course. And so then, I got the news that I had had a partial molar pregnancy. Your cells are supposed to divide evenly by twos. My cells were dividing by threes. And at that point, I was told by the doctor that I would need to monitor my HCG levels, which is the same hormone that tells you if you're pregnant. So they said sorry you cannot get pregnant until we can confirm that those cells are not, you know, multiplying, and that hormone levels not going up. Because if the hormone level goes up we know those precancerous cells are multiplying. So, I did the first test and it came back, yes. The number went up. So I had to have my blood tested the next week. And yes, the numbers went up again. So at that point, once it gets to a certain level, they give you a shot of Methotrexate which is actually a cancer drug. But that's also what they use to stop these precancerous cells, I guess that kind of makes sense. Um, so I had that shot. And then they said because you had the shot. Now we have to monitor you every month for a year. And that just broke my heart because my sister and I are two years apart. And I thought that that was just perfect. And that's what I wanted for my babies. But God knew better. God knew what I needed. And I just always think of that Thomas Rhett song, "You make your plans and you hear God laughing." That just resonates with me almost on a daily basis. I'm sure you guys can all relate as well. But yeah, I just had to put my faith in God and know that it's his plan, and not my plan and His ways are higher than mine. I went in every month Preston my little sidekick would come with me and distract me from the blood draw. My levels of course went down to zero, we took care of everything. And now it was time to have a baby again. I remember saying, the first month we can get pregnant, I want to be pregnant. And we sure did. We were pregnant in May of 2003 and Parker joined our family in January of 2004. Now, I did not have a sweet song that I sang to him because you know we were busy, going to doctor's visits, and then going to the park. And I had Preston and my all my attention was focused on him. I was pretty heavy into scrapbooking at the same time. So most of my free time I would spend scrapbooking with my girlfriend Cherise. And we would put our two children down for naps and just enjoy time together. Once Parker was born, he did get a song. The only song Preston knew that he could sing in the seat next to Parker was the ABCs. So, sometimes we would sing them fast. Sometimes we'd sing them slow. Sometimes we'd sing them really loud and obnoxious. And he just loved it. He loved the music I think he loved hearing our voices, and it would always calm him down in the car. So, that was Parker song, unfortunately, middle kid gets jipped all the time and he got ABCs, because then sweet little Hanna came along and she got a great song too. I also miscarried before Hanna. I had Preston, when I was a month before I turned 21. I had Parker three years later, and I had Hanna, seven years later. My husband had finally decided, yes, we could try for another baby. I was so thankful and I was so excited when I found out we were expecting again. And I was really hoping it was a little girl. Oh I was hoping! I wanted to play with her hair and pull it up and put it in braids and you know I wanted her to do daddy daughter dances and I just had plans...well, honestly... What kind of shifted my mindset on having a third child because I always wanted a little boy, was one Christmas, the boys were opening their gifts. And it was all stuff for Shawn to do with them. It was golfing. It was archery. It was fishing. You know? A lot of boy things, and I know everyone wants to say girls, girls can do that stuff too and girls absolutely can. But just in that moment in time, I was like, Who's gonna go shopping with me and who's gonna do all those fun things of me, and all the sudden I just knew I wanted to have my own little best friend. So, we talked about you know fostering we talked about adopting you know we just ultimately decided on trying to whip up a batter of our own and praying for a little girl. We went to the first ultrasound and it was really good and that was always kind of what I needed was that first ultrasound to feel okay. So excited! My best friend at the time, she got pregnant. Oh, man. Oh no, she was trying to get pregnant I'm sorry she was trying to get pregnant. And I was thinking "We're gonna have babies at the same time. It's gonna be so much fun." I couldn't even believe it. Then we went to the 11 week ultrasound. And there was no heartbeat. I was devastated. There was a show on at the time called Glee. And it was where like high school kids would sing songs in a remixed fashion or whatever. At the time they had "Smile." You know goes [Singing] "Smile, though, your heart is aching. Smile, fill your heart is aching." And I just play that song, over, and over, and over. And just cried and cried. And I remember sending my best friend a text and just said, "I don't want to talk about it, but there wasn't a heartbeat." And it was so hard because my family did not know that I was pregnant at the time. I was waiting to tell them. And it's odd because I didn't wait to tell them with any of my other babies. Like the second there were two pink lines on that pregnancy test, I was blabbing to the world. And for some reason this time I didn't. So we didn't really say anything to anybody. Actually my husband's mom came to visit. I was just kind of out of sorts. And it was so weird to like almost grieve alone. I did end up telling all of our family, you know like, I don't know, a month or two later. Maybe when I got pregnant with Hanna. You know, it was just so hard. I don't know I guess just the way that I am I'm an extrovert. I don't mind people knowing my business. I think it's the best thing in the world. You just tell people right away. And if you lose that baby, you have the most amazing support system. The miscarriage that I had between Preston and Parker, I had so much support and so much understanding and sympathy. People just trying to be there for me and be understanding. And it was a very difficult miscarriage. Right before Hanna because nobody knew about it. So it was really hard. Now of course my best friend knew about it but I just, I would never recommend waiting. That's just my personality type but I like people knowing. And then there's an explanation if I'm not you know my normal peppy self. So then, I was really devastated because I thought, you know what, I don't think Shawn's gonna let us try again. It had taken... I think it only took him maybe four months to get pregnant with that baby. And I just thought that that was kind of our one chance. And I didn't know if he was gonna let us try again. I just didn't have a good feeling about it. So, we talked about it. And, you know, a couple months later he was ready to try again. And it's funny because I think that we forget miscarriage affects our husbands too. You know, they lost the baby too. They lost those expectations too. They lost the baby the hope the dreams and you know all those things that you think you're going to do with that baby. He must have, you know, had time to grieve. And we were ready to try to get pregnant again. It took about six months and I remember thinking like, if I'm not pregnant next month I think I maybe just need to be done. I don't know if I can keep doing this to myself. So sure enough, that next month pregnancy Test came back positive. I was so excited, went to the first ultrasound second ultrasound. Everything was great. We were on the road to having a little girl. And all I can say is that when I did have the DNC from that second miscarriage. I asked the staff, you know, could you tell was it a boy or girl, and they said "You know what honey... that it... just, No, there was no way to tell." The way I sleep better at night, the story I tell myself to feel better, is I just feel like maybe God looked down and he was like, "Wait a minute, why is Tiffany pregnant with a boy? I think I clearly told you guys, she needs to have a little girl. That's what she's dreaming about and that's what she's been waiting for. She needs to have a little girl." And I think that the angels were just like, "Oh yes, I'm so sorry God. I'm so sorry." I ended up having a miscarriage. I got pregnant again. And that was my sweet little Hanna. Once I got pregnant with her. I just knew she was going to be perfect. I mean, do you ever think that you're going to have a not perfect baby? No. So I knew she was going to be perfect. And the song that I picked for her was "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars came out in 2010. So right around the time of Hanna being born because she was born in 2011. I had such an awesome pregnancy really all three times. We moved this last time with Hanna we had moved from Chicago to Minnesota to be close to family. It was just a great experience overall took pictures. You know felt great. When in for that 20 week ultrasound. And now we have a problem. You know you can just tell right the ultrasound tech she starts taking extra pictures, pictures you didn't remember getting with other babies. They get very quiet, and you're asking questions and they just keep telling you like, "Oh the radiologist will go over with you. You know, just, you just got to wait. Wait for them to read it." So I got news had to go in for the appointment. I got news that Hanna only had a two vessel umbilical cord. Now they're supposed to have three vessels. Two arteries, one vein. It has something to do with the return and exchange of blood and oxygen to the baby through the umbilical cord. And why it becomes a danger is because that umbilical cord can get very worn out, and almost kind of start to disintegrate towards the end of the pregnancy. So, I still had a good pregnancy. I was very very concerned about this two vessel umbilical cord. I actually was doing tech support for Mac software at Creative Memories, at the time. I remember I had lady calling in and she was talking about her child and I don't know they were like, you know, three, four or five six somewhere in there, I don't know. Younger but not a baby. Somehow we got on the topic of being pregnant and all that good stuff. She just assured me through her own story that it was gonna be okay. Hanna was gonna make it. Hanna's gonna grow up to be a perfectly fine little girl, and not to worry about it. So I really did try to lean on that for the most part. And again just driving to work every day singing to her. You know how perfect she was going to be. So when I would sing the song, the lyrics that always resonated to me, were "Her eyes, her eyes make the stars look like they're not shining. Her hair, her hair falls perfectly without her trying. She's so beautiful and I tell her every day." I knew I was going to tell my baby every day how perfect she was and how beautiful she was. But if you've ever seen a picture of my daughter...Jeepers, her eyes, her eyes, They do make the stars look like they're not shining. Just these big beautiful blue eyes, and her hair her hair falls perfectly without her trying. Gosh, it's true. I mean, I remember being at the pool one day, we'd been swimming her hair had dried. The wind was tossing Her hair was so perfect. It was like out of a movie or something. Okay and then the next lyrics I just think are so great is "When I see your face. There's not a thing that I would change because you're amazing, just the way you are." She is so stinking amazing. She is polite. She's sweet. She's kind. She's funny. I just love everything about her She really did turn into my little best friend. I joke about that all the time when I post things on Facebook and stuff about her. I also love when he says "And when you smile the whole world stops and stares for a while." She just has a magnetic smile. I love posting pictures of her on Facebook with her little smile and her friends. She just has a great aura to her, I suppose. And then this one always kind of tripped me up but I still do think it. "Her lips her lips I could kiss them all day if she'd let me." She has great lips, so when she was born. Shawn, first thing he said "She's got your lips," and I'm not trying to pat myself on the back I'm just saying she has great lips. And a great smile. And great hair. And great eyes. And then to finish off the package, it says "Her laugh, her laugh, she hates but I think it's so sexy." When I sing this to Hanna I always say "Her laugh, her laugh, she hates but I think it's so funny." Or, it's so silly. You know I put something else in there because obviously I don't think my daughter's laugh is sexy. And I know this is a guy singing about his girlfriend or his wife. But this is me singing about my daughter and I just love her so much. I've been so excited to, you know, share these three stories with you in those couple of songs. Because I don't know, like I've always said you know you just connect with music and it really means something to you. And when I hear those songs I just think about my babies and those days of anticipation and waiting for them to enter my life. I could not imagine my life without them even though they drive me absolutely crazy sometimes. I still wouldn't give them up for the world! And it's just fun to watch them grow and become the people they are. I hope you look the songs up and you hear them or, you know, if you sparked some kind of memory with you. I'd love if you shared that with me. Or if you have a song that you think your baby, or your baby that you weren't expecting at whatever point, and how that was for you. Hope you guys have a great rest of the day. And we'll talk soon. Outro Weren't those great stories, I mean songs. I hope you could relate with my insights and feelings to connect with me, or to check me out on social media, see the show notes as always for details. Please leave a five star review. And I'd love if you left a memory of your own that. Can't wait to dive into my next guests memories with the beat! Hit subscribe now. You don't want to miss the next episode!
Today on the podcast, my sister Emily and I share more of our family history. Our mom was conscious and proactive about creating memories and capturing them in photos. We share how the Organize 365 Photo Program came to be. We review our family history with photos and reminisce about our favorite albums. Because of all of these things, we worked together to create our new Saving Your Story Photo Program for physical photos. For a while, we were both involved in Creative Memories. For the Photo Program, we are partnering with Creative Memories once again. We share how you can benefit from the photo program and make your own albums to share your memories with those you love.

The past year in the life of the Sunday Basket has been a whirlwind! I wanted to pause and clarify the differences between the Sunday Basket Workshops, the Sunday Basket Club and the Paper Organizing Retreats. Why do we need a Sunday Basket anyway?! What do you do with your mail when it comes in your door? What about the ideas that flood your head while you’re driving your kids to school? How about prescriptions, coupons, “to do lists”? I promise you are spending more time managing these things than you think. The Sunday Basket System is the answer to eliminating that to do list and freeing your mind from constantly trying to keep up with the hamster wheel of ideas that flood it daily. If you haven’t started your Sunday Basket yet, you can purchase the Complete Sunday Basket System here. The purchase of the Complete Sunday Basket comes with a virtual “on demand” training you can access on Organize 365 in your dashboard. I just updated those training videos last week. Additionally you can listen to the Sunday Basket podcast here to learn more about the Sunday Basket and follow along as you set yours up. Where did the IN PERSON workshops come from? The Sunday Basket Workshop was designed after my passion for Creative Memories workshops, where women would come from all over Cincinnati (and in my backyard) to laugh, drink wine or lattes, listen to 80s music and put photos into albums on the last Friday of the month in my home. It is my vision that we will have Certified Sunday Basket Workshop Organizers in every major city in America teaching and helping women organize their paper and be freed from the guilt and burden that piles of unorganized paper brings. If you are looking for a Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer in your city or town to help you get organized, please check out our Certified Organizer Directory! How about the Sunday Basket Club? Because the Sunday Basket became so popular, and because I love community so much, when the demand came to have a “Sunday Basket Club” on Sundays where I would go through your Sunday Basket with you, I wanted to say yes, but I was overwhelmed with the prospect of having to teach that EVERY SUNDAY. However, two of our all star Sunday Basket Workshop Organizers volunteered to run it … so I said yes! The Sunday Basket Club has a 90 minute Facebook Live time where you can go through your Sunday Basket with Monique Horb and Ryan Lanier EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY. The Sunday Basket Club is a virtual weekly workshop kind of like “co working” as you go through your Sunday Basket. But it is more than just your Sunday Basket papers. Everyone in the Club also has the basic 4 binders I use to ditch their filing cabinet. To gain access to the Sunday Basket Club, you can sign up for the Complete Paper Program or All Access. You can learn more about and/or purchase the Complete Paper Program here. You can learn more about and/or purchase All Access here. Last but not least, Paper Organizing Retreats. Lastly, let’s come full circle. The Sunday Basket Workshops started because of the good ol’ Creative Memories days. And even though you can learn about the Sunday Basket System and Workshops from our Certified Organizers, or participate virtually by buying it on demand from Organize 365, and you can go through your Sunday Basket weekly in the Sunday Basket Club; like I said, I like community. And I LOVED hosting Creative Memories workshops and my famous “Winter Wonderland Retreat”. So naturally, Paper Organizing Retreats were born and I am LOVING hosting them and so excited about all the progress I have seen women make in this weekend away to really focus on and tackle those paper organizing projects. So join me, my team and our Certified Organizers at an upcoming Paper Organizing Retreat in April! You can learn more and/or register here! We would LOVE to help you get your paper organized and most importantly, give you a BIG HUG! PS Have you thought about becoming a Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer? The program is OPEN! But only until February 10th! Hop on over to Sundaybasketcertification.com to learn more and/or sign up! We would love to have you on the team. :) If you tried any of my suggestions, I’d love to see them! Have you ever thought about being a Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer? If so, now is YOUR TIME! Did you ever wonder how the Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer Certification started? My sister and I talk about how the Sunday Basket Workshop patterns after our experiences at Creative Memories workshops where our clients - who soon became friends - would all rally around on a Friday night in our basements or garages and we would crank up the tunes, share a few laughs, maybe a cocktail or two, and sometimes tears, as we put together scrapbooks. There was a feeling of satisfaction in having helped women put their memories into albums, while simultaneously, creating more memories in the process. And in the height of the scrapbooking “trend”, there was a lot of money to be made in doing it. Fast forward to today. There are women literally drowning in their paper piles and the Sunday Basket Workshop is here to save them. And you can help! There are so many major cities in America who do not have a Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer to help them and my sister and I detail in this podcast the list of cities where we desperately need help to help those women get that paper organized! Maybe you are not ready to be a Certified Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer but you ARE getting a Professional Organizing Business started. Good for you! We have a free downloadable checklist to help you establish your business and we have a Start Your Professional Organization Business program that is a six week course that dives into that checklist soup to nuts. You can download the checklist here. You can learn more about Start here. Maybe you are not interested in BEING a Certified Sunday Basket Workshop Organizer, but you are looking for one? If so, head on over to the Certified Organizer Directory and see if there is someone in your town to help you get your paper organized! It’s the big one guys! Over the last few weeks, I’ve been super excited to introduce you to some of the people that have really helped shape who I am over the last decade. So I couldn’t think of a better way to finish the series than by inviting my very own sister, Emily Kelly, onto the podcast! Emily takes you on the journey of some of our life experiences and shows you how I’ve become the person and businesswoman I am today... and to dish the dirt on everything about me that only a sister can know! We’re very lucky to be in such a special relationship. I’m also super excited to let you know that Emily is now part of the Organize 365 Team. She is running the Sunday Basket® Workshop Organizer Certification Program. Entrepreneurship Runs In Our Family We grew up in a 100% entrepreneurial family so the idea of working for someone else was just never entertained. For us, we were taught that you either owned the company or you started one from scratch. On the podcast, Emily takes us back to when she was 3 years old to the story of her first friend whose mom owned a home goods shop in the valley and our Mom who was running her business from our basement. Every day, they’d play "shops" with the little guest checks or receipts lying around from both homes. It was that or trading stickers. It’s all we’d ever known. Everywhere we went, we were pretending we were in business. It was so much fun! By contrast, since I was 4 years older, I was often out babysitting and dreaming of the day I’d become a mom! To picture the scene, we grew up in a neighborhood in Akron with no traffic (or sidewalks!) and there were very few children. It meant that we had to make our own fun. I’ll never forget the day Emily and her friend set up a lemonade stand outside the house. Entrepreneurism was everywhere for us, but it’s lovely to reflect on the fact that we learned business from different perspectives because of our ages. Our Mom’s Business Emily loves that we’re both true to form with the women on mom’s side of the family when it comes to business minds. We have inherited the attitude of "I have an idea and it’s going to sell." Our grandma mailed fabric all over the world so people could make their own clothes. Grandma Green had a flower shop, and our mom’s idea grew while working for a clothing business. Emily and I have such fun recalling the stories of mom and grandma taking clothes for a huge end-of-season event to Cleveland to maximize sales in the 1970’s/80’s. Everyone helped with it. Mom saw potential right away. Many people were being successful with the trunk parties, but no one had the undergarments. Cue mom! She literally got on a plane to New York, went to a show, and started buying lingerie. She had slips coming out of her ears! It was an old-school direct sales business that she’d created on her own. Emily says that just blows her away! It reminds me of when I got on the plane to Dallas and asked the manufacturer to produce my Sunday Basket® for me. Mom grew the business to where she had women working for her in 26 states when she sold it just a few years later. It was an amazing achievement with lots of reinvestment. We are both so similar in the way we approach business today because of how she was. White Gloves, Party Manners & Favorite Games Emily and I recall how when we were young, we took etiquette classes to learn all about silverware and to get our slips out for formal dinners (slips feature heavily in our childhood!). We also learned how to get out of a car in a skirt. I often wondered, would any of this help me see the royal family? We’re both BIG royals. I would have put being Queen on my list of jobs to be when I grew up if I could. I can’t wait for the royal wedding and new royal baby this year! We did love to play lots and lots of games when we were growing up, too. We came up with all sorts of games. By far, our favorite was one we made up called "big friend." Visit the blog post here to view a short video of Emily and I sharing our memories of the game. Entrepreneurism Ran In Our Dad’s Family, Too Our dad was no exception to entrepreneurism. Sales was his strength and Dad’s company had over 100 employees. His father and grandfather had a coffee company. Our father’s company in Akron that he eventually became co-owner of was called Alcon Tool. Dad’s enthusiasm for manufacturing made us fall in love with the industry. Dad’s ethos on work is something that stays with us both today. It doesn’t matter what role you play in the team, everyone is equally important. That’s what I’m trying to grow at Organize 365. Dad’s Passing Our father passed away 10 years ago just before he was 61. On the podcast episode, Emily and I reflect on this most upsetting time in our lives. We talk about how it was kind to put us both as executors, but not practical. We found our own roles and formed a strong team at a difficult time. Growing Independently It’s true that we had a privileged upbringing in both education and financial support, but in every single generation, the businesses that our families grew started from scratch. There was no inheritance, but just a great idea and the determination to succeed. Dad started life as a salesman and left as a partner. When I reflect back, my best advice would be to take a look at what you have and not what everyone else has. I’m successful and I’m very blessed, but I work really hard. I want to give back as much as possible, but I create zero excuses for myself. Having my husband Greg working allowed me to start Organize 365, but Emily is a very successful single woman. So it’s not your spouse that makes or breaks you. Think about the "something" you were uniquely created to do and give it to the world. Every reason why you’re not pursuing it is an excuse. Take what’s in your way and get rid of excuses to move forward. This podcast is about our family highlights because it’s all about encouraging and inspiring you. When you focus on the positives, opportunities become bigger and brighter and you can chase them. If you focus on what could have been, things look darker and it’s harder to chase your goals. Creative Memories The time when Emily and I worked for Creative Memories was a super exciting time in both our lives. Replacing my teaching salary with direct sales so I could stay at home with my family was my dream and I was going to do everything I could to get there. My dad helped me decide on Creative Memories. We both felt it had a big reach... it turns out we were right! As Emily says, I joined and went straight to the top! Emily was one of my great customers and after turning me down initially, I finally managed to get her to sign up, too. She went straight to the top as well! We built teams and were in the top 6% performers of the company. We take a lot of what we learned in those days with us now to run a fun community workshop feel. Emily & I As A Team Again This brings us to today and where Emily and I find ourselves in the organizational realm. Although it’s not the most profitable, I’m staying with the home and paper organization, as it’s the area where I feel I can recreate the community buzz of Creative Memories. I’m constantly pivoting and moving forward to create this feeling in your house and at our workshops. It’s awesome to have Emily on board to run the Sunday Basket® Workshop Organizer Certification Program. Prices go up on April 1st so get in touch with Emily to talk about the next steps as soon as you can. We’d love to have you on the team! Emily and I see the vision of bringing people together all over the world. It’s a space where you can share experiences and move forward from them. No one should feel alone and that’s why the workshop model works so well. Emily is so excited to be on board and she feels just like she did when we worked together at Creative Memories. For her, we’ve never been better than then as a team. I love Emily and so will you, I am sure! To find out more about the Sunday Basket® Workshop Certified Organizer Program, click here. The Organize 365 National Convention is 25% sold out! Get your ticket and join us June 7-9 in Dallas, TX for an experience to remember! Rise! YOU are enough!
