Steven Koecher's disappearance on December 13, 2009, remains one of the most perplexing unsolved mysteries. A devout member of the LDS Church, Koecher was struggling financially and working a modest job when he inexplicably drove to Henderson, Nevada, and was last seen on security footage calmly walking away from his parked car in a suburban neighborhood. Multiple theories, ranging from foul play to mental health crises or voluntary disappearance, have been proposed, but none offer definitive answers. Over a decade later, his family continues to search for closure, while investigators remain baffled by the total lack of evidence, leaving Koecher's vanishing an enduring mystery.Crystal Rogers has now been missing for 7 years and even though the authorities have a suspect, no arrests have been made and no closure has been provided to the family. It's been eight years since Crystal Roger went missing. Her then-boyfriend, Brooks Houck, immediately became the main suspect. The mom of five was last seen at Houck's home. Rogers' car was found abandoned with a flat tire on the Bluegrass Parkway two days later. Her keys, phone, and purse were inside the vehicle. Houck was interviewed, but not arrested. Now, Houck has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Houck's bond has been set at $10 million cash. Houck's attorneys appealed the bond ruling, but they ruled against Houck. This is the third arrest related to Crystal Rogers' disappearance. 32-year-old Joseph L. Lawson was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence in the case. Lawson has pleaded not guilty. His connection to this case is not yet known, but Lawson's father worked for Houck. Lawson's father has also been charged. Rogers' body has not been found. On July 3rd, 2015, 35 year-old mother of five Crystal Rogers disappeared from her hometown of Bardstown, Kentucky. At the time of her disappearance, Crystal was living with her children and her boyfriend, local businessman Brooks Houck, who also happens to be the last person who saw her before she vanished, never to be seen again. On July 5th, Crystal's maroon 2007 Chevy Impala was found abandoned at mile marker 14 on the Bluegrass Parkway. The keys were in the ignition, Crystal's cell phone and purse were still in the car, and there did not appear to be any signs of a struggle, but no one who knew Crystal could understand why she would just get out of her car instead of using her phone to call for help, and the situation became more suspicious when Crystal's family discovered that even though her boyfriend Brooks had not heard from her over night, he had not called to report Crystal missing, and he didn't seem concerned about her whereabouts at all. What would follow was an investigation that uncovered some shady activities hiding beneath the idyllic small town appeal of Bardstown, Kentucky, and two more deaths that had many people wondering if it was all connected back to Crystal Rogers. TIMESTAMPS: Suzanne Morphew & Crystal Rogers: (6:44) Ruby Franke: (13:45) Ruby Franke was one of the original YouTube ‘stars'. Her channel, 8 Passengers, had millions of subscribers at its peak. The channel chronicled the life of Ruby, her husband Kevin and their six children in Utah. What started as Ruby posting videos of her daily life, soon turned into something more. Ruby made videos regarding the strict treatment of her children – she would withhold food as punishment and at one point even made the children do chores to be able to use the bathroom. Authorities were called and did an investigation into the Franke family. Ruby seemed to shrug it off and the family went about their daily lives. Ruby's marriage to Kevin had broken down. Ruby had partnered up with Jodi Hildebrandt, who called herself a counsellor. The two started new social media accounts called ‘Moms of Truth' where they posted their extreme parenting tips and views on topics such as immigration and sexual abuse. In August 2023, a child in Utah escaped from a home and ran to a neighboring property. The child was emaciated and malnourished and had wounds embedded in his skin from being shackled. The child was Ruby Franke's son. Ruby and Jodi were arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated child abuse, a felony. Both are being held without bail. In this episode, we discuss the fall of Ruby Franke and the heinous crimes she and Jodi Hildebrandt allegedly committed. There have been some big updates in the cases of Suzanne Morphew and Crystal Rogers and we discuss those in this episode, as well. Read our blog for this case here We are now on Patreon! Houck has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. The details of why, however, remain sealed until his arraignment. Houck's bond has been set at $10 million cash. This is the second arrest related to Crystal Rogers' disappearance. 32-year-old Joseph L. Lawson was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence in the case. Lawson has pleaded not guilty. His connection to this case is not yet known, but Lawson's father worked for Houck. Rogers' body has not been found. There has been an update in the story of Crystal Rogers from Bardstown, Kentucky (episode #8 from 2016 and episode #88 from 2019). On Wednesday, 27 September 2023, FBI Louisville announced that Crystal's longtime boyfriend, 41-year-old Brooks Houck, had been charged with her murder. This comes right after a similar indictment was handed down earlier this month against 32-year-old Joseph L. Lawson, another Nelson County man that's alleged to have played a part in covering up the crime...To learn more about this story, read or listen to the "Crystal Rogers" episode at the following link:https://unresolved.me/bardstown-part-three-crystal-rogersResearched, written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3266604/advertisement

In this Back To School episode we consider the "List of Life": the criteria that define what it is to be a living thing. Some are easy calls: A kitten is alive. A grain of salt is not. But what about the tricky cases, like a virus? Or, more importantly, what about futuristic android robots? As part of our Black History Month celebration, developmental biologist Crystal Rogers and scientist-in-residence Regina G. Barber dig into what makes something alive, and wade into a Star-Trek-themed debate. Is there something you'd like us to cover in our Back To School series?
