This week the boys are joined by Chris Rice of 10th Mountain Whiskey. Chris shares the story of the brand and allowed us to sample 10 of their expressions. This conversation then cycled back and forth from whiskey to cigars in tangents only Caleb could pull off. This all went down while we enjoyed the newly released Alma de Cielo from PlacenciaPatrol Gone Wild this week features a criminal leading police on a literal Easter egg hunt, a drug filled trip to the magic kingdom, and you guessed it another terrible teacher.Caleb's news this week brings announcements of new releases out of Patina and Montecristo. In this honest and heartfelt episode, we hear from Chris Rice. Chris worked in marketing for the film and entertainment industry since leaving university back in 2006. He achieved senior roles within global agencies and brands before making the move to become freelance in 2020. In 2023, he decided that a more wholesale change was needed, and, today, while still working in his original industry, he is also retraining to become a plumber.Chris opens up about how his constant search for ‘more', and never feeling at home in his career, led him to the realisation that a change was required. He discusses how he needed to let go of some of his own stereotyping and judgements around certain careers before he could really commit to a career that he felt was right for him. Chris also describes how working freelance in his previous career enabled him to re-train whilst still drawing an income. He makes it clear that completely changing career can be hard financially, requiring severe sacrifice at times, but that, in the end, it felt necessary and totally worth the temporary struggle.
Chris Rice got his start as an adventure racer and has since racked up more than 90 events on UltraSignup. We were lucky enough to shake hands with him recently at the Loopy Looper 100 miler where we witnessed his sub 24 hour finish , teaming up with prior guest Michael "Gagz" Gagliardi to tough out the last 3 hours of the race. And to hint at the grit this guy has, the Loopy Looper was just 10 days after his 4th Badwater 135 finish. He is now preparing for the 153 mile Spartathlon on September 28, and then The Arizona Monster 300 in April 0f 2025. So plug in to hear what makes him tick and how he is approaching a 300+ mile challenge. Checkout more from The Ultra Running Guys: Website: www.theultrarunningguys.com Race: The Final Countdown
We're back with Chris Rice celebrating one of the longest running themes in romance: Daddy Issues (not the good kind)! Today, we're talking about Chris's most recent banger, Sapphire Dawn, we talk about the longstanding history of characters with terrible fathers, about why romance seems to love a bad dad, about our favorite characters with terrible fathers, and about why terrible fathers make the best heroes? We're coming up on the end of Season 6 (what?! how!?), and so incredibly grateful to you for listening. In Episode 162, we revisit the inspiring journey of Chris Rice, who first captured our hearts in Episode 34 when he shared his long-distance love story with Jenifir. Now, Chris returns to the podcast with an even more incredible chapter in his life. After nurturing their relationship from afar, Chris made the life-altering decision to leave the familiar comforts of upstate New York and move to the Philippines to be with the woman he loves. This episode tells the story of a man who followed his heart across the world, choosing to settle in a remote area in the heart of a rice field, where life is vastly different from Upstate New York.Chris's move wasn't just a geographical change but an emotional and spiritual one as well. Accompanied by his loyal dog, Kerya, he embraced the simplicity and challenges of rural living, far removed from the hustle and bustle of American life. The lower economic conditions of his new environment were not a deterrent but rather a pathway to a simpler, more fulfilling life. This conscious choice underscores the depth of his love and commitment to Jenny. In this episode, we explore the nuances of such a bold transition, the joys and trials that come with adapting to a new culture, and the strength it takes to forge a new life in an unfamiliar place.Listeners will be captivated by Chris's story of love, courage, and resilience. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the lengths we go for love and the incredible adventures that await when we step out of our comfort zones. Tune in to hear about the sacrifices and rewards of Chris's new life in the Philippines and how love can lead us to unexpected yet beautiful places.Chris Rice, Sr.https://www.facebook.com/ButtcrackulaMindful Love Clarity Callhttps://www.andreaatherton.com/booking-calendarAndrea Atherton Websitehttps://www.andreaatherton.com/Love Anarchy Websitehttps://loveanarchypodcast.buzzsprout.comLove Anarchy Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/loveanarchypodcast/Andrea Atherton Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/andreaatherton-17/
Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia. Today is Thursday Aug. 8, 2024. Started in a Fort Hill basement, Charleston's Echo-Lit delivers its educational art to a world stage…Nitro's teaching apiary helps share beekeeping benefits with kids and veterans…and a Ritchie County knifemaker handcrafts his products with precision and care…on today's daily304. #1 – From GAZETTE-MAIL – Every small business has a story. For Echo-Lit, it begins in a basement. Jeanne Stevenson and her husband Chris Rice started the educational media company from their Fort Hill basement in 2008. The company steadily grew, and the couple now runs their production from a building in the Elk City district on Charleston's West Side. The company produces quality educational prints using original and unique art while supporting local artists, Stevenson said. What began in a basement now has a worldwide reach: Echo-Lit was recently recognized by state economic development officials as one of 23 West Virginia companies that grew their business by exporting goods or services to a new country last year. The company has exported to Canada and Australia as well as numerous countries in Europe and Asia. Last week, the 7-year-old eagerly suited up in his yellow beekeeping jacket and walked into the teaching apiary--a place where people can learn about beekeeping and bees' roles in the environment. MJ's father Martin Ellis also owns honeybees. Martin Ellis, a veteran, said the interest in bees that he and his son both share began a year ago and was sparked from visiting this same teaching apiary. Brothers Clint and David Baker tend to the Nitro apiary. The third-generation beekeepers started their company--Hillbilly Hippie Honeybees--in memory of their father. One of their goals is to teach veterans and kids like Martin and MJ about the benefits of bees. The Bakers came together with other Nitro residents to form the Nitro Sustainable Community, which holds monthly workshops and teaches the community about beekeeping, food canning, and more. Watching his grandfather create knives—an essential tool anywhere, but especially in the Mountain State—put the idea in Pratt's mind that he could do it, too. He experimented, drawing designs of his own. Eventually, those drawings grew into the business he runs today: Bonds Creek Knives. The knives are forged by hand with a 25-ton press in the Ritchie County shop. Pratt's wife and son pitch in, too, handling sales or helping with the 3D printed keychains that come with each purchase. Forging is hard, he says, but he wouldn't have it any other way. “There's something about being exhausted and actually holding a physical product that you've made from start to finish—that's pretty satisfying.” Read more: https://wvliving.com/west-virginia-knives-lovingly-made/ Find these stories and more at wv.gov/daily304. Before and after. Before 2020, the idea of closed borders, lockdowns, face masks, social distancing, and testing weren't a thing. After, we've experienced the real toll, the disruption, the unknown that the pandemic brought. It was a crisis of a generation, and it changed the world on a global scale. Mental exhaustion, economic disparities and escalating divisions now mark our times. But award-winning author, Dr. Chris Rice sees the challenges of our day as a historic opportunity for renewal and fresh growth. In his new book, “From Pandemic to Renewal: Practices for a World Shaken by Crisis,” he examines eight interrelated crises exposed by the pandemic era and provides pathways for followers of Christ to bring transformation and healing to their lives and communities. Rice is director of the United Nations Office of the Mennonite Central Committee, an international relief, development, and peace agency. He served as Co-Founding director of the Duke Divinity School Center for Reconciliation, and is coauthor of Reconciling All Things and More Than Equals, which both won Christianity Today Book Awards. Now, from a burnout society and bipolar world order to our own divided selves, Rice helps us understand this emerging world that will reshape our lives for decades to come. In today's show, he also shares some of the transformative practices that can move us toward social healing and spiritual renewal. EPISODE SHOWNOTES: Read more. WHAT'S YOUR CAUSE? Take our quiz. It's a great Monday to make some trouble as we talk about this weeks anticipated EPA rules on tailpipe emissions, some details on Fords innovative new plant, as well as the job and job perk situation that is changing rapidly."We're going back to how Henry Ford set up the assembly line, we're going to do more of this ourselves." says Ford CEO Jim Farley about the company's new “Blue Oval City” manufacturing plant in west Tennessee also calling it a “marvel of simplicity”The plant is the first the company has built in 50 years and is scheduled to open in 2025 and to produce 500k vehicles in a space that is 30% smaller than other Ford plants that have the same capacityFord and partner SK Innovation will operate a battery plant at BlueOval City, building battery cells, arrays, and assembling battery packs. The site will also be carbon neutral, use geothermal, and won't require any fresh waterSometime this week The Biden administration is expected to propose extensive new limits on vehicle tailpipe emissions, pushing U.S. automakers towards majority electric-vehicle sales. Will likely cover 2027-2032 model years and will potentially exceed President Biden's initial target of 50% of all new vehicle sales being electric-powered by 2030. The current percentage of EV sales is sitting around 6%.The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a lobbying group that represents GM, Ford, Toyota Motor Corp. and other major car companies, said in a statement that they expect the new rules to be released but didn't specify detailsThe group noted such a transition will require a seismic shift in the way Americans drive and cited a Mckinsey study which highlighted a $35B investment in charging infrastructure needed to accommodate such a shiftAs the tech industry faces unprecedented job losses, Silicon Valley veterans are forced to reset their careers, opting for stability over status. Positions at giants like Meta and Amazon are giving way to roles at smaller firms, tech jobs at non-tech companies, and freelance consulting. “The majority of folks that have been laid off from big tech companies, they've been disillusioned,” said Chris Rice, a partner with Riviera Partners, an executive-search firm that places leadership talent in software-engineering, product-management and design positions. This comes as last months jobs report missed expectations for the first time in a yearJob openings fell to 9.93 million, the first sub-10 million total in nearly 10 years Other signs of cutbacks on costs being reported as Google pairs back on work from home equipment, limits free meals, and eliminates other lavish perks the company has been known for like in-office massages and laundry services.
