As Friends Rust is an American melodic hardcore band based in Gainesville, Florida.[1] The original line-up, which included vocalist Damien Moyal, guitarist Henry Olmino, bass guitarist Jeronimo Gomez, and drummer Matthew Crum, formed in Davie, Florida in September 1996. After recording a demo tape but failing to secure a record deal, the band parted ways in February 1997. Check out their latest album Any Joy which was released last year and is available wherever you get your music.  I got Damien on the Skype and this is what we chat about: Starting Shai Hulud Why he was in so many bands The reason for multiple lineups in the beginning My band playing a show with them on tour Signing to Doghouse Records Not having a specific sound for the band Narrowly avoiding dying on multiple occasions The Polish Mafia gig Annoucing new songs in 2008 with no delivery Which does he like better, Fest or Furnace Fest And a ton more Lastly I started doing whiteboard animations so if your marketing department has said recently “Hey, we need a whiteboard animation” then email me at mike@drive80.com Feel free to support  the podcast for as little as $1 a month through Patreon

Before we start, if you're company has a hard time explaining what it does you can hire me to do that in 60-90 seconds with an explainer animation. Go to drive80.com or email me at mike@drive80.com to learn more. Known for singer Harold's beautifully bespoke tenor vocals, Tampa, FL's Hankshaw (founded in 1994) played melodic indie rock- emo. The band saw releases on Network Sound, Doghouse Records, No Idea Records (among others), and tours with Hot Water Music, Elliott, Ann Beretta, and more. I heard about these guys from my dude Casey Lee Morgan when my old band first traveled to FL and he put us up. Go check Casey's business Sparkway Smoke & Vapor shop in Bloomingdale and Netcong, NJ. I reached out to Harold on the Hankshaw IG account, asked him to chat, he said yes, and here's what we chat about: Limbert Fabian Carrying a machete in his car to shows Their label Network Sound What Joined In The Sky is about Playing shows with no lyrics  Developing his high octave range The whole story about King Kandy Why he stopped doing music Are they going to do some new stuff? The story about them at the Real World house in New Orleans And a ton more This week's sponsor is Mint 400 Records. Mint 400 Records is an indie record label from NJ with bands across the United States, Canada, and Europe. The label features everything from Indie Rock & Folk to Post-Punk and Soul. Over 400 exciting releases.  You can find Mint 400 Records' releases streaming at Spotify, Pandora, Tidal, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, and more or at all mp3 outlets worldwide. With an infectious personality and a flashy style behind the drums, Jon Phillip has laid down beats for nearly a dozen different bands since he first picked up the sticks in the early '90s. Phillip's first bands — Tralfez and Spank Child — were based in the rural town of Grafton, Wisconsin, where he grew up. He then joined the up-and-coming power-pop group the Benjamins, who would go on to sign with Drive-Thru Records and tour the country several times over. Following the Benjamins, Phillip briefly played in the Nice Outfit before forming the roots rock band the Obsoletes with Justin Perkins and Tim Schweiger, who previously played together in Yesterday's Kids. Phillip went on to drum for the alt-country band Limbeck, of Doghouse Records. And the prolific drummer has since played with a string of other nationally known acts, including Berwanger, the Wildbirds, Screeching Weasel, Paul Collins Beat, Trapper Schoepp and Tommy Stinson. Stinson, of course, is known for being a member of both the Replacements and Guns & Roses.     Phillip is now fronting the punk group Mini Meltdowns, which features Scott Schoenbeck (Promise Ring, Dashboard Confessional and Rx Drugs) on bass. Phillip also runs Good Land Records, an independent record label, from his Nashville home.

The band is celebrating 20 years of The Moon My Saddle with a few select shows and it was time to get David on. This podcast episode is a lot about redemption and letting things go as times pass. One of those is an amazing quote on The Moon My Saddle when it first came out in Alternative Press. It says “David Moore on this record makes Huey Lewis sound like the king of the Delta Blues.” Then, 10 years later, Alternative Press does a big feature/interview on the band. Some things are ahead of their time. David’s father drove his motorcycle across the United States to Los Angeles, California to try and make it as an actor. It never materialized and he came back to Indiana to raise his family. David also made that same decision after Chamberlain broke up, deciding to hang up the music and stop chasing the dream and get on with his life. It wasn’t entirely that simple as you’ll hear. We talk about David’s approach to music, the initial response to “The Moon My Saddle,” the band’s downfall and what David did after that. Also how he’s looking at the upcoming 20 year anniversary shows from that album as an adult versus the boy that first toured those songs. “If this was just about nostalgia, we are self-aware enough to know that we wouldn’t want to do it.” Not a bad way to think about it. This indie rocker introduces his style of personal revelations in uniquely-crafted song structures. His messages are meaningful and urgent, though sometimes quirky, because these are also pop songs. Andrew began his career playing bass for Doghouse Records pop/rock group, Feable Weiner, where he toured all over the U.S. and Europe for over three years. They signed a publishing deal with Universal U.K. and recorded a brand new album before losing traction after label disagreements behind a name change. That record, 2FNHOT, eventually came out under the band name, Mondo Primo. Andrew went on to play bass for Nashville-based piano rock group, Parachute Musical, and continued to tour extensively for almost four more years. They co-wrote and released an e.p., No Comfort, and a full length, Kill It Cut It Down, both completely independent, before Andrew decided to relocate to Los Angeles, where he initially did stand-up comedy. Secretly honing his songwriting craft from his bedroom for roughly fifteen years, Andrew says The Alchemist is his dream come true. "This record is the most honest part of me I've ever shared. Taking on this project all by myself has been the hardest thing I've ever done, but it's also the most rewarding." Andrew released The Alchemist on 5/15/15 on his label, APS R=CORDS.
