They discuss the activist community's disappointment over Biden's recent compromise on Title IX and trans women in sports, and Briahna asks some tough questions in an effort to give voice to what is perhaps some good faith confusion about how to negotiate the reality that sports are currently divided on the basis of physical advantages associated with those whose sex is assigned male at birth. They also discuss messaging around the gender identity of the Nashville shooter, the recent dust up around the Emily Yoffe article which allegedly misrepresented a nonbinary child's experience with gender affirming care, and more. There is a lot of bad advice going around these days. If something bad happened to you, define yourself by your trauma. And if somebody inadvertently did something offensive, react as though they had intended to harm you. Emily Yoffe, a member of Persuasion's Board of Advisors and a contributing writer at The Atlantic, has spent years giving thoughtful advice and chronicling the strange turn in our culture. One of the country's best writers and most fearless reporters, she knows better than just about anyone else how to skewer the growing self-righteousness in our intellectual discourse. In this week's episode of The Good Fight, Yascha Mounk and Emily Yoffe sit down to discuss the hallmarks of cancelation, why intent matters, and how we can recover our capacity to converse freely. On The Gist, Trump isn’t strategic or defiant, he’s just rapacious. When discussing #MeToo, the focus is often on the power that men exerted when sexually harassing women, but are their sexual motivations getting left out of the conversation? Emily Yoffe wrote about this in her new piece “Understanding Harvey,” for the Highline, and joins us to discuss. In the Spiel, Hollywood has taught us that cars explode, but in reality they hardly ever do. Shouldn’t movies teach us more practical lessons about how to handle crises? Amid much controversy, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently began dismantling the federal guidance on campus sexual assault put in place by the Obama administration. DeVos said her predecessors had created a “failed system” that served neither accuser nor accused. Ending campus sexual assault was a signature issue of the Obama administration, which waged a concerted five-year effort to end what it said was an epidemic of sexual violence on college campuses. Emily Yoffe, contributing editor at the Atlantic, recently wrote a three-part series that examined federal and school policies on campus sexual assault and documented the systematic denial of due process for the accused, the junk trauma science used in adjudications, and the disproportionate number of African American students who are punished. In conversation with the Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus, Yoffe will discuss how this issue came to grip the nation, what the proposed Trump administration changes mean, and the strange new politics of campus sexual assault. Someone like you. Because where are we more vulnerable than in matters of the heart?

U.S. Military Mascot Comes to the United States - Captain John Smathers returned from Iraq with a broken arm, a wrecked knee and a chest full of medals. He is one of the most decorated soldiers involved in removing Saddam from power. During his tour, he thwarted a bank robbery and recovered stolen artwork. When he returned to the United States, he was determined to complete one final mission; to rescue Scout, a dog he met in Baghdad a year prior. Dog Dancing with Emily Yoffe, - Emily discovered the world of canine freestyle (you could call it "dog dancing" but just not in front of anyone who does it) one night while watching an episode of the cartoon King of the Hill, in which Hank Hill and his beloved bloodhound, Ladybird, entered the vicious world of competitive dog dancing. Avian Flu - Can Your Pets Catch It? with Merritt Clifton - Currently, the Avian Flu is not a problem in the United States. It does not spread person to person, and is not a threat to our pets. The Avian Flu (H5N1) has been around since 1996 in Asia, and has claimed only 65 people. These people were in close proximity to birds, such as those who worked with poultry, those that shared their home with fowl, or those that were involved in cockfighting. What Your Dog Can Teach You About Living a Happy Life with Matt Weinstein - If you have ever truly observed a dog, then you know there is much we can learn from them. Have you ever noticed how dogs are happy much of the time? The little things don't seem to bother them. Try spending a day acting like a dog, and see what a difference it makes to you and those around you. Inmates Welcome Cats Orphaned by Katrina - Prison is a refuge for about two dozen cats displaced by Hurricane Katrina, a place filled with women happy to be able to soothe away their trauma and fear. Four Pocahontas Correctional Unit inmates have been caring for the cats since they made the cramped 20-hour truck ride last month from an overwhelmed Mississippi shelter. The women see it as a chance to help not only the abandoned pets, but also the hurricane relief effort and even themselves.
