In this episode, I delve into 'spring cleaning' your social media account and the vitality of curation for an empowering online experience. I reveal how my personal strategy focuses on fostering genuine connections, not just boosting follower numbers. By listening to our body's cues and maintaining control over our digital engagements, we can build a more authentic presence online.Running a business on social media can often feel like a tightrope walk between marketing and staying true to oneself. We tackle the importance of setting firm boundaries akin to the decorum of a physical store, utilizing tools like the block button to foster a respectful environment. It's all about the nuanced art of engaging in respectful dialogues on sensitive topics while keeping a business page authentic and boundary-conscious.As a teacher and practitioner, sharing knowledge ethically is a tightrope of its own. I open up about my balance between vulnerability and professionalism, stressing the importance of knowing your expertise limits when discussing complex subjects. Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
Cultural patriarchy and heteronormativity often negatively impact sexual and relational development — but they can be difficult to recognize and challenge. On this episode of the Empowered Relationship podcast, we're talking about gender and its construction as we examine our society's cultural backdrop of hetero-normativity. Joe Winn joins me today to explore the principles to consider as we question ideas, notions, and messages that we receive around gender. Joe Winn is a licensed clinical social worker, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and supervisor of Sex Therapy whose practice is outside of the Boston and Cambridge area. Joe has also lectured nationally and internationally on consensual non-monogamy, BDSM & kink, gender, and relationships. Joe is also a faculty member of The South Shore Sexual Health Center, an AASECT-approved training program for clinicians working towards certification in sex therapy. Check out the transcript to this episode in Dr. Jessica Higgin's website. In this episode: 05:01 Why gender is such a problematic construct in our culture 07:45 Gender as viewed from a heteronormative perspective, and why people often perceive an LGBTQ+ alternative as an attack on their beliefs. 11:43 Joe's thoughts on whether patriarchy is at the foundation of the gender construct and the ways the discomfort and fear feed into homophobia 19:55 Why we need to allow ourselves to step into the transformative process of understanding our needs to better develop authentic relationships 23:50 How to start engaging with people interested in alternative concepts of sex and gender and seek out meaningful dialogue. 31:05 The importance of self-care, tuning into ourselves and putting ourselves at the center of our experience so that we can also support our partner 35:26 How to recognize moments of discomfort around gender and why we should turn towards them 40:00 Strategies we can use to learn and reset if we have been indoctrinated by society with rigid beliefs Mentioned South Shore Sexual Health Center website Connect with Dr. Joseph Winn Website: josephwinnlicsw.net LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/joewinnlicsw Connect with Dr. Jessica Higgins Facebook: facebook.com/EmpoweredRelationship Instagram: instagram.com/drjessicahiggins Podcast: drjessicahiggins.com/podcasts/ Pinterest: pinterest.com/EmpowerRelation LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/drjessicahiggins Twitter: @DrJessHiggins Website: drjessicahiggins.com Email: jessica@drjessicahiggins.com If you have a topic you would like me to discuss, please contact me by clicking on the “Ask Dr. Jessica Higgins” button here. Exploring the inner growth lifestyle topic of the day; how the inner growth journey, mindset and lifestyle get you to see and pursue your explorations of this in cosmic consciousness; how it is always a choice at your disposal, accessible by you in any and all moments; what changes this brings to your life when faced with life moments and circumstances; how mind and heart flow are a part of the process too; why your higher infinite human potential is always a major player and accessible through your ability to tap into your higher cosmic consciousness; and how the determining factor will always be you, your belief in life and yourself and whether or not you allow your heart to lead the way in flow with unconditional love and neutrality towards self and others, particularly when the unknown elements of life, the void space of tomorrow's unknown, presents itself to your conscious mind. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/maria-florio/support

We're gonna do something special in the next 9 days. We're going to talk about FLOW.When I talk with magical people who are brand new or very established in their businesses, what they really, really, really want from their business is not 7-figures, or 10K IG followers (tho those are all welcome, thank you)What we all want is FLOW.You know the feeling. Things feel effortless & fun. The synchronicities and miracles are just too in your face to not be in awe of your magic.Money comes easily. Referrals fall in your lap. Creative insights are popping off in your brain one after the next…Well, there is a recipe to flow.A business that is IN FLOW requires 3 main ingredients:Empowered RelationshipsRhythm, andExternalized EnergiesThere are 3 types of Empowered Relationships we need for an IN FLOW business:We need to create powerful relationships with our Self, our Money, and our Clients & Potential ClientsIf we don't have these in place we feel ICKY in our business, our sales, and our marketing. For Rhythm, we need a Monthly Marketing Cycle to plan & review, a Seasonal Rhythm, and Daily Actions that keep our momentum.Without Rhythm we feel confused, overwhelmed, lost at sea.The Externalized Energies we set in our businesses allow our business to grow without our constant attention. This means your biz has its own Identity and Systems. It also means you plug into the Big Externalized Energies in the Beyond: (the Universe, God/dess, your ancestors, Magic…)All of these things work together to give you flow. And over the next 9 days we'll be digging into each of these elements so you can start laying a foundation of flow.Tune in tomorrow for our first Empowered Relationship: the one with your SELF.This special series is brought to you by the Alchemical Business Intensive: the 6-month small-group program for magical business owners looking to grow their business with ease & the #realbusinessshit no one seems to be talking about. From now until midnight on July 21st if you apply & are accepted into the Alchemical Business Intensive then you get a bonus 1-1 strategy session with me!Head over to thedirtyalchemy.com/abi to Learn more & apply.

What Is A Healthy, Empowered Relationship?
Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
Today, I am pausing from the regularly scheduled episodes to stand in solidarity for Black Out Tuesday and Black Lives Matter. On the Empowered Relationship podcast, we address principles that support healthy relationship. The importance of safety, respect and reverence for people expands beyond intimate connection. We are all a part of a human family. When harm, injury, abuse, injustice occurs, it affects us all whether we turn towards it or we turn away from it. As we talk about on this show, when someone is acting out of protest, there is pain. While the message isn’t always clear. If we look deeply, what is underneath is “This is not okay. I am not okay.” Today, I invite you to consider putting attention towards positive change and being a part of a solution. I encourage any time you would have allocated towards improving your intimate relationship today to invest in the quality of human connection and with Black Lives specifically. What can you do today to pivot your focus to relationship, care and consideration for the safety and well-being of Black Lives and the experience of African Americans in the United States, as well as your role (your relationship, how you participate or how you don’t participate)? We all have a role. There are many ways you can do this. If you are looking for ideas, please see below for some suggestions. Another way to think about this...is what do you do when someone you love or care about is hurting? Or when you feel overwhelmed and don't know what to do? Learn. Read. Listen. Hold space. Get involved. Donate Sign petitions. Resources (not a comprehensive list): Black Lives Matter (reading list, find a local chapter, donate, etc) Support Campaign Zero, a police reform group that has been working on policy solutions “informed by data and human rights principles.” Anti-racism Resources NY Times Antiracist Reading List Connect with Dr. Jessica Higgins: Facebook: facebook.com/EmpoweredRelationship Instagram: instagram.com/drjessicahiggins Podcast: drjessicahiggins.com/podcasts Pinterest: pinterest.com/EmpowerRelation LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/drjessicahiggins Twitter: @DrJessHiggins Website: drjessicahiggins.com Email: jessica@drjessicahiggins.com If you have a topic you would like me to discuss, please contact me by clicking on the “Ask Dr. Jessica Higgins” button here. I wrote these 12 Commandments YEARS ago. This is how I live. These are the rules I live by. In this episode I am going to deep dive how to use my commandments to create a healthy, loving, peaceful, and joyful relationship. These commandments will also greatly help you be in charge of your life, your mind and reduce your fear, worry, and stress! I created The 12 Commandments of Being An Empowered Person: Define Clearly What You Want To Give To The World. You need to align yourself with professionalism, ethics and showing up as the highest standard of you, every day. That means you will learn to surrender to the things you cannot control, and let go of the things you desperately want to control. You need to have faith, hope and surrender certain situations to the Universe so you can live the life you were meant to live without distractions. Trust that God is taking care of whatever you have surrendered. Establish And Maintain Safe, Clear, Boundaries To Ensure Great Relationships With Everyone In Your Life. Build Rapport With Co-Workers, Business Partners, Other Parents, Anyone In Your Life That You Have To Deal With Outside of Family. Deepen Your Intuition. When you do this you will be more confident in your decisions, less stressed and anxiety will dissipate. You will know you are making the right decision and will not question yourself. Listen Actively. You will be fully present and pay attention to whomever you are speaking with or dealing within that present moment. You will fully understand what is being said to you and how you would like to respond. Ask Questions. If you do not understand something, you will ask for it to be explained. This way you never walk away from any situation confused, angry or resentful. Communicate Directly. You will use clear, powerful language in all your dealings that eliminates confusion maintains focus, and has the greatest positive impact on the situation at hand. Be Curious. If you don't know the answer to something you will find it. You will use Google, or YouTube, or read a book. You will take the bulls by the horn. You will always be learning, not quitting. Design Empowered Action Steps. You will plan your days ahead of time, stick with your morning routine, set goals, and have a plan to reach those goals within a certain timeframe. Hold Yourself Accountable. You will set deadlines. You will reward yourself for meeting your deadlines for tasks, goals, and finding your Taken Talent. If you don't meet a deadline, you will make a new deadline, and make sure it gets done. Trust Yourself. You will trust that you do know what is best for you, not be sidetracked, celebrate your momentum, and even if you don't believe you know enough or are good enough, you will continue to learn and grow trusting that you are equipped with everything you need. Have Fun. You will make time for self-love. You will put yourself first. You will schedule some sort of activity for yourself every single day!

In this introductory episode, I talk about why embracing imperfections is the key to having healthy relationships and how to put being a better bad girlfriend first. If you're ready to let go of the pressure to be a "good" girlfriend or a total people pleaser in your love life, here's where to start! While teaching you how to start leveling up your relationships and release the shame that shows up in them, I also give some background on my own love and dating experiences, including the cringey stories of trying to navigate romance without ever being taught how to really have healthy relationships. I describe what we will focus on in this podcast and we define “Healthy Relationships”, being “Empowered” in relationships and different types of “Relationships”
If you are like me, you have been in a relationship that seemed perfect on paper but turned out to be terrible in real life. You have the same interest, background but for some reason it just doesn’t work. This can cause you to be confused when this so-called perfect relationship falls apart. If you are also like many of us, you don’t make this mistake just once but several times. You find yourself in some kind of relationship death spiral that keeps you coming back to the same type of partners. You may start to see the signs sooner but find it very difficult to break this pattern. You need to pivot but find yourself unable to transform to develop the relationship that will make you happy and fulfilled. Our guest today, Dr. Jessica Higgins is a Relationship and Transformational Coach. Jessica is known for her deep understanding and keen perception; while being able to translate her observations and knowledge to help clients shift and transform their ways of relating. She guides clients on a path from confusion and heartache to clarity and authentic connection. In today’s podcast Jessica shares her personal relationship struggles that lead her to become one of the best in the business of transforming pain into deep love, connection and vitality. She also has an amazing podcast that I love called “Empowered Relationship, Your Relationship Guide”. Just listen to some of the titles of her podcast, “What Happens When You Feel Like A Victim In a Relationship”, “How To Deal With Partner Envy”, How To Repair a Breach of Trust in a Relationship”, “What To Do When Stuck In Self Sabotage” and so much more. Who doesn’t want to know how to deal with all of those issues better? We are all evolving and striving to be our best self. Before you run off and listen to all of her awesome shows, sit tight and enjoy listening to how vulnerable Dr. Jessica Higgins gets about her past relationships to help you see that sometimes the pain and struggle is the solution. Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
For years, I have been talking with clients about the important balance between assertiveness and consideration. Many times, people are too afraid to assert themselves because they have fear of seeming mean, domineering, or controlling. Yet, if you do not assert yourself at all, it is likely you will feel unhappy with your partner and within your relationship. BALANCED ASSERTIVENESS When coaching clients I will sometimes put assertiveness on a high-to-low scale. On one end, you have someone who is high in assertiveness and low in consideration for others. They may neglect to think about others and they may appear to be self-involved and self-centered. On the other end of the scale, you have someone who is low in assertiveness and high in consideration. They may be so considerate of others’ needs that they do not advocate for themselves because they feel it is inappropriate to assert their needs. Or they may be so focused on others that they don’t even know what they want. Both ends of the scale are out of balance. The goal is to be both assertive and considerate in relationship. (These are my Empowered Relationship podcast notes. Be sure to listen to the episode to hear stories, examples, and more tips.) One of the tools that I sometimes use with couples is an assessment titled Prepare – Enrich. The test results help identify a couple’s strengths and weaknesses so that the couple can work to improve and strengthen their relationship. The assessment is called Prepare – Enrich because it helps engaged couples prepare for marriage and helps married couples enrich their relationship. Here are some interesting research findings from Prepare – Enrich: KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICS Prepare – Enrich identifies four key relationship dynamics that affect the success of a couple: Assertiveness – the ability to express one’s feelings and ask for what one wants. Self-Confidence – how good one feels about oneself and their ability to accomplish what they want in life. Avoidance – the tendency to minimize issues and reluctance to deal with issues directly. Partner Dominance – how much one feels controlled or dominated by their partner. A Positive Cycle Shows: Being assertive builds self-confidence. Being self-confident builds assertiveness. A Negative Cycle Shows: Avoidance increases the feeling or experience of partner dominance. Feeling as though your partner is dominating and controling increases avoidance. Those That Score High In Assertiveness: Score higher in self-confidence Tend to like the personality of their partner Feel good about their communication and conflict resolution skills Score lower in avoidance and partner dominance Those That Score High In Avoidance: Score higher in partner dominance Tend to dislike the personality of their partner Are less satisfied with their communication and conflict resolution skills Score lower in self confidence and assertiveness If you struggle with being assertive in relationship, then chances are you may struggle with self-confidence too. I encourage you to take one step towards practicing being assertive. This step could be something small like voicing your preference for dinner. Or you may want to spend some time thinking about what you would say if you were to advocate for your needs in relationship on bigger topics. I understand this is easier said than done, especially if you have had very little support or encouragement to articulate your needs. If you would like to support in becoming more assertive in relationship, please contact me. I would be happy to help. Dr. Jessica Higgins recorded an episode of her Empowered Relationship podcast that really spoke to me. In fact, I had been thinking of doing a show on this very topic. However, when I heard how she handled the subject, I knew I simply needed to share her words with you, because she said it so much better than I could have articulated. Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
“What do you do when you have gotten into a pattern of not avoiding the Nine Destructive Behaviors in relationship conflict?” Most people can remember a time when they did or said something during a conflict that they did not feel good about. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to react and find yourself behaving unskillfully. Furthermore, we all go through the power struggle phase in relationship. While it can be a painful process, it is all a part of the development of a normal and healthy relationship. Every master was once a disaster. ~ T. Harv Eker In last week’s episode, The Most Important Ingredient To Shifting Conflicts, I talked about the importance of making a decision for integrity over the relationship in times of distress. On a plane, we are instructed to put on our oxygen mask first before helping anyone else (in an emergency situation). For some of us, this seems like a very counter intuitive practice, especially when you image sitting next to someone you love dearly that needs your assistance. It almost seems selfish. However, if you think a few steps down the road, you can see the wisdom. How can you protect and help the person you love if you are passed out from lack of oxygen? If you are experiencing conflict with your significant other and you notice the pattern of a downward spiral, you are not going to be of any use to the interaction by participating in the conflict dynamic. The best thing you can do for yourself and your relationship is to put on your oxygen mask – in this case, the oxygen mask is your emotional health and integrity. It may seem like you are leaving your partner high and dry, but experience and research show that very little good is going to come from continuing to engage in the same problematic patterns. We put emotional health and integrity into motion by taking action. These steps are a practice. Like any other healthy practice (i.e. eating healthy and staying physically active), we are going to love it at times and hate it at times. But all in all we know the long-term results are worth the struggle at times. We want to feel greater love, harmony, and relationship satisfaction. As with any practice, we are aiming for improvement, betterment, and progress, not perfection. 1. STOP REFEREEING. In relationship, we are so focused on the wrong doing of our partner and we react and take issue with something they did or said. We are like relationship police officers, blowing the whistle on each other and trying to write tickets to each other. In Dr. Fred Luskin’s book, Forgive for Good, he talks about people having a metaphorical glove compartment full of unassigned tickets. We can’t assign the tickets so they end up building up, essentially building up resentment and bitterness. 2. PLAY YOUR GAME. Focus on your part. Don’t “play down”. Have the right mind-set. The story we tell ourselves is critical to our effort and play. Utilize a “Do Over“. If you think you can or you think you can’t you are right. ~ Henry Ford. 3. BELIEVE IN THE WIN. To win is to do the best you can. A double win is when you do the best you can and your partner does the best that he/she can. Together you will work toward a mutually beneficial resolution and feel good about your progress. Believe in the benefit of doing your part. In doing the best you can, you will feel good about your behavior, effort, and process. 4. KNOW YOUR BOUNDS. Know your boundaries and limits. Set the standard. What is “in bounds” and what is “out-of-bounds” for you? 5. DON’T PLAY OUTSIDE OF BOUNDS. “Don’t go for balls that are out-of-bounds.” Be clear about your limits. Let your partner know about your new limit (communicate if you are setting something new into place). Do not engage or give attention to behaviors you are not okay with. Refrain, redirect, or walk away. Follow-through. Be consistent. You will prevent harm from happening. Examples of what you can say for each of the Nine Destructive Behaviors: Name calling & character attacks: “I’d like to hear you. However, if you are going to name call, I am going to leave the conversation.” Criticism: “I am interested in what you have to say and what your experience is. However, I am not interested in being criticized.” Silent treatment: “It seems like you are upset. I care but I am not going to chase you about it. When you are ready to talk, would you please let me know?” (No, reply.) “Okay. Please let me know when you would like to talk. I would like to hear what you are feeling.” Check-in but do not give attention for silent treatments. Assuming: “Sounds like you have some ideas about what I might be thinking or feeling. Would you like to hear what I am thinking or feeling? Or Would you like to check it out with me? I’d like to tell you my experience if you would like to hear it.” Trying to be right: “It seems like we are getting caught in the trap of trying to be right? I am interested in the goal of working towards a resolution together. Are you interested in that? If not now let’s come back to this when we are both calmer.” Defensiveness: “I am feeling defensive. It seems like you are feeling defensive too. Is now a good time to talk? I am not sure if we are going to get anywhere right now.” Control tactics: “I would like to be able to finish my thought. I am having trouble being able to finish what I am saying. I would like to feel the space to talk as well as the space to listen. I am not interested in interrupting each other. Let’s come back to this another time.” Outburst of anger: “I don’t feel safe right now. I would like to listen to you but I can’t when I feel scared.” On the next podcast episode, we will talk about how clear old hurts, build repair, and work toward forgiveness. I would love to hear your thoughts. Do you have points to add to the conversation? Please leave me a comment below. Mentioned: Be sure and check out The Art Of Mindful Wealth Summit.
