Today, Ali sits down with her dear friend and Fertility Rally member, Caitlin Trabert, for a raw and powerful conversation about her long and deeply emotional path to parenthood. Caitlin opens up about the heartbreak of multiple pregnancies and subsequent losses, her husband's balanced translocation, and the toll of IVF—physically, emotionally, and mentally. From the crushing "egg winner" high to the "zero embryos" low, a surprise pregnancy that ended in miscarriage, and learning her mom had breast cancer on the same day she was miscarrying—Caitlin talks about how hard it is to trust your body after so much loss, and joining Fertility Rally—an experience she describes as the best decision she's made. She talks about welcoming her daughter, Parker, into the world, and finally, being pregnant again with a baby that's due this year.TOPICS COVERED IN THIS EPISODE: Infertility; TTC; pregnancy loss; miscarriage; IVF; embryo transfers; egg retrievals, pregnancy after infertility; balanced translocation Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/infertile-af/donationsEPISODE SPONSORS:WORK OF ARTAli's Children's Book about IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technologyhttps://www.infertileafgroup.com/booksDo not miss Ali's children's book about IVF! Alison Prato, an acclaimed journalist, has become one of the go - to voices in the fertility world sharing her infertility story and supporting others in their fertility journey.  Ali's experience with secondary infertility included undergoing procedures like IUIs and IVF, and grappling with depression, grief, and relationship challenges. Her message is clear: you are not alone.   This message became especially important to Ali when she lost her mother this year. Julia and Ali discuss how families evolve even beyond IF and family building and how to navigate grief and change.     In 2019, Ali initiated her podcast, "Infertile AF," to foster community and support. Additionally, she co-founded Fertility Rally, a welcoming and inclusive community accessible round the clock for those navigating infertility. Ali highlights that the virtual Fertility Rally occurs biannually, in April and October, featuring experts in the field and offering breakout sessions covering various pertinent topics in this ever-evolving domain. Join Ali and Julia as they explore the realm of IVF and discuss accessible resources for infertile couples.   IN THIS EPISODE: [3:14] Ali shares what brought her to the fertility space and relates her journey of infertility [9:09] Ali feels that moving to the East Coast delayed her starting a family, and she shares her experiences with miscarriages [16:00] Ali's marriage was suffering through this process, and there are no guarantees when doing IVF  [22:06] Discussion of the Infertility Rally and where the infertility field is headed  [29:06] Ali discusses experiences women are having and the camaraderie between her groups [31:26] Ali shares what family means to her [35:29] Ali talks about the book she wrote for children about how they were born and what her children have been told about IVF [38:47] Ali discusses losing her mom in 2023 and their beautiful relationship   KEY TAKEAWAYS: Research indicates there's like a cohort mentality around starting a family. If everyone is doing it, you're likely to do it too. They call it a contagion, even though it's not contagious. It's a social contagion. Egg quality diminishes the older you become, making it more difficult to conceive. Going through IVF treatment doesn't guarantee you will get pregnant. It is an evolving science requiring a little bit of magic. There is help available for couples facing infertility. She is here to let you know: You are not alone.    When a girlfriend who had a similar experience asked Ali to share her story to help others, she wrote an article for Health magazine and started getting feedback from women and some men, who were like, “Wow, nobody talks about infertility, IVF, or any of this!”   Ali realized quickly that there was a dearth of candid information about infertility and that there was still a stigma attached to it.    Always a storyteller at heart, Ali launched her podcast, Infertile AF, in 2019 — and today, she has published more than 250 episodes and garnered more than 1.25 million global downloads. In 2020, Ali and fellow infertility warrior Blair Nelson co-founded Fertility Rally, a safe, all-inclusive, 24/7 community for anyone and everyone navigating infertility or building their modern families through ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology). In 2023, she brought all her ideas together under the Infertile AF Group, which just published “Work of ART,” Ali's children's book about IVF — available for pre-order now!

How to be Emotionally Resilient During Fertility Treatment with guest Abbe Feder of Incircle Fertility

"Is it possible to become emotionally resilient, so that you can handle all of the things that you face as a fertility patient without feeling overwhelmed and triggered constantly?" I get this question all. the. time, and today I'm excited to have Abbe Feder of Incircle Fertility on to share tips, tricks, and mindset shifts with us! Tip 1: Be kind to yourself, and know that things like baby announcements, or nosy questions from family members are triggering to many fertility patients. That doesn't make it easier, but it might help to know you're not alone in the feelings. Some of these triggers can come from unexpected places. Tip 2: To work through triggers: talk about the trigger, acknowledge the trigger, become aware of what triggers you, and then "figure out what works best for you to get past the trigger" when they do come up. Tip 3: Allow yourself to feel your emotions. Don't push them aside. Find a trusted friend, family member, spouse, partner or coach to help you. They don't have to understand what you're going through, the key is that they are able to listen to you and let you talk. Abbe Feder is a fertility coach and the founder and CEO of InCircle Fertility. She and her husband host the podcast Maculate Conception, and she is the creator of the (In)Fertility Cards of Affirmation. We had the pleasure of meeting at a panel with Fertility Rally and I could not be more excited to have her on the show to talk about how to be emotionally resilient during fertility treatment. Today, we're talking about what it means to be a fertility coach, how to find support for your journey, and how to develop more resiliency when facing the ups and downs of being a fertility patient. It's hard to have babies. No matter what stage of life you start trying to have a family, it rarely goes to plan. And dealing with infertility doesn't just mean figuring out how to start a family or have a baby, it's often an emotional journey that can impact things far beyond that. This week we are digging into the topic of infertility with two guests who also experienced it themselves and now dedicate their work to helping others start families. My first guest is Ali Prato, the host of the podcast Infertile AF. Brooklyn-based journalist and mom-of-two. Ali, who went through secondary infertility and IVF herself, talks to women—and some men—about the messy, frustrating, painful, heartbreaking, absurd and sometimes hilarious journey to have a baby. Or in some cases, to not have a baby. Ali covers all of the outcomes in this safe, non-judgement zone: the happy endings, the soul-crushingly sad ones, and the ones still in limbo. She's also the founder of Fertility Rally. Elizabeth King is a Certified Fertility Health Coach, Master Certified ICF Life Coach, Birth & Bereavement Doula and New Parent Educator. Her mission is to help people of all backgrounds conceive a healthy baby. After having 3 children of her own after the age of 40, Elizabeth believes taking a more holistic approach is the key to success when attempting to conceive. Now she has helped hundreds of women achieve their dreams of conception and parenthood in 20+ countries around the world. She supports clients through natural fertility, infertility, IVF, miscarriage loss, early pregnancy PTSD, and new parent support. 1 in 8 couples experience an infertility journey. A journey that involves physical, emotional and financial stress, while straining relationships. In this episode, we discuss the mental toll, heartbreak, grief, and thankfully, hope - with FabFertility's very own, Blair Nelson. About Blair Nelson:  Blair Nelson is an infertility warrior who began her journey in 2018 after being told IVF was the only way to grow her family due to an inherited genetic factor her husband, Will, was born with. After their second embryo transfer from their first round of IVF treatment, Blair suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage that redefined her life. Ever since then, she has made it her mission to bring facts, tips, inspiration and most importantly a voice to the topic of infertility. She found refuge in her difficult times online among women who have had similar experiences, and she wants to return the favor. Her Instagram account, Fab Fertility, has grown into a brand, podcast and blog. She also co-founded Fertility Rally in 2020, an event and membership platform to support and educate anyone building their modern family. After five rounds of IVF, countless shots and procedures, Blair and Will are expecting their rainbow baby girl in May of 2021. Not every journey to motherhood looks the same, and not every journey is an easy one. Sometimes that joy of holding your newborn can be brought to you through a path of loss, heartbreak, challenges, and healing, and it's so important that we as women and mothers give each other opportunities to share in the more difficult pathways. It's through that sharing that we can truly find allyship and kindred spirits like our wonderful guest Ali Prato. She shares with us, her experience of multiple miscarriages, which turned out to be something called secondary infertility, and her success story of conceiving her son through IVF. She also gets super real with the heartbreak that emerged from those reoccurring miscarriages and the silence that surrounds this topic, the pure determination of knowing that her son was mean't to be here after many failed attempts, the conflicts that arose in her marriage because of everything and how she worked through each finite intricate piece of the puzzle that led to her sons joyous existence. Not only is she an amazing guest and mother but she too is the host of her own podcast called Infertile AF where she celebrates all kinds of journeys to motherhood and those choosing not to mother at all. She's also co-founded an incredible organization called Fertility Rally that has been coined the worst group with the best members - a community of support and information for women + families struggling with fertility. Thank you Ali for providing honest conversation about tough topics and also for creating safe homes for women to go to, to find camaraderie and understanding. I hope you enjoy this real af episode ~ blessings to all, MMD xoxox
