Matthew 22:37-40, And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” ---------- We begin a new sermon series for the month of September this Sunday. This series will focus on these important truths: That we have been chosen by a Great God with a Great Commandment to follow a Great Commission. We are called to this purpose is to accomplish his Great Plan to be His church. Through the teachings of Matthew 22:37-40 and Matthew 28:19-20, we see that plan revealed for us and through this sermon series, we will study those Scriptures to help us to recognize how we should function as Christians individually and as the church together in unity. ---------- This first week, our theme and message will be centered on worship, celebrating God's presence in our lives and our church. We come together as a family each week to praise and glorify Him, but in truth, worship is not a weekly event, but a mindset that sees the opportunity to magnify God in all circumstances and through every thing that we might do.

Send us a Text Message. From Come Follow me: "When someone we love has made a serious mistake, it can be hard to know how to respond. Part of what makes Alma 39–42 so valuable is that it reveals how Alma—a disciple of Christ who once had his own grievous sins to repent of—handled such a situation. Alma's son Corianton had committed sexual sin, and Alma, as he had learned to do in his ministry, trusted the power of true doctrine to give his son an eternal perspective and encourage repentance (see Alma 4:19; 31:5). In these chapters, we observe Alma's boldness in condemning sin and his tenderness and love for Corianton. And ultimately, we sense Alma's confidence that the Savior “shall come to take away the sins of the world [and] declare glad tidings of salvation unto his people” (Alma 39:15). The fact that Corianton repented and eventually returned to the work of the ministry (see Alma 49:30) can give us hope for forgiveness and redemption when we are troubled about our own sins or the sins of someone we love (see Alma 42:29)."Support the Show:www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There's definitely an art to planning. And we'll get into that in this episode. But here's the thing everyone forgets to tell you about planning: The real trick is actually not in making the plan. The real trick is in sticking to the plan you've made. We'll talk about why that is so darned hard--and how to get better at following through on your plans.Key TakeawaysPlanning provides structure, focus, and accountability. Without a plan, it's too easy for your goals and intentions to get lost in the shuffle of daily life. Having contingency plans allows you to adapt when obstacles arise, maintaining momentum and flexibility.Remember to be kind to your future self when making plans. Create plans that include not only productive tasks but also rest, relaxation, and treats. Even if your plans are not perfect, the act of sticking to them anyway (until you can adjust them) reinforces your identity as someone who keeps their commitments–even to themselves. "When God wanted to bring the incredible message about new life through His Son's death and resurrection to the world, He didn't create a program, build a structure, or start a country. He used a group of people. Though these people were different from each other and were each flawed, what joined them together was that they had been changed by Jesus." I wrote these words when I first came to Orchard in order to have something to put on our website to explain to people what Orchard is all about. Almost 13 years later I stand by these words. We are starting a new sermon series looking at the importance of the local church in God's plan of salvation. We see what the church is, what we are to do, how we are to do it, and how local church membership fits into this mission. We start a new sermon series called "A Peculiar Unity: The Local Church in God's Great Plan" and the first sermon in this series is titled "The Bride of Christ."
As we prepare for the Easter season and celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we often sing the hymn “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” But what if we temporarily shift our focus from rejoicing that the Redeemer lives to rejoicing in how he lived for us? In this episode Professor Tyler J. Griffin, associate dean of Religious Education, discusses his article “I Know That My Redeemer Lived” from The Power of Christ's Deliverance. He emphasizes how everything the Savior did and said in his day-to-day life was focused on helping others and doing God's will. In recounting Christ's service and miracles, trials and tribulations, and Crucifixion and Resurrection, Professor Griffin illustrates how the Savior chose to live each day for us. Ultimately, knowing how Christ lived for us can empower us to emulate his example and become more like him. Click here to learn more about Tyler J. In Ephesians Paul writes to teach God's purpose for the church and to give instructions on the right conduct considering this teaching. As this is done, several themes emerge. The first theme is the “mystery” of the church. Here, “mystery” means a truth not revealed in the past, but now made fully known. Another theme seen throughout Ephesians is the blessings believers receive in Christ. Love is also a major theme in Ephesians. Agape, a Greek word for God's love, is primarily an act of the will rather than an emotion. Finally, a major theme of Ephesians is spiritual warfare. In Chapter 1, Paul talks about how Christ was raised far above every power and principality (v. 20-22)—referring to the hierarchy of demons. In Christ's ascension, he conquered the demonic world and now rules over it. “The word ‘riches' is used five times in this letter; ‘grace' is used twelve times; ‘glory' eight times; ‘fullness' or ‘filled' six times; and the key phrase ‘in Christ' (or ‘in Him') some twelve times.” Paul begins Chapter 1 by declaring that believers have every spiritual blessing in Christ (v. 3). He then names some of these blessings: Believers are chosen, predestined, redeemed, forgiven, lavished with wisdom, and understanding, and heirs (2:6) in Christ. The blessings are innumerable (1:2, 5–9; 2:7; 3:8, 16, 19; 4:13; 5:18; 6:10–13). In considering this magnificent epistle, some say it can not only be divided between doctrine (1-3) and duty (4-6), but also sit (1-3), walk (4-6:9), and stand (6:10-24). In chapters 1-3, believers must learn their new position— seated in the heavenly places with Christ and recipients of divine blessings. In chapters 4-6:9, believers must begin to walk in consideration of their heavenly position and blessings. Finally, in 6:10-24, believers must stand against the evil forces in the heavenly places. As you study Ephesians, may you better understand God's purpose for the church.
