Listen along as we continue our series through the book of Hebrews. Notes//Quotes: Hebrews 10:1-18 - Mike Hebrews 10:1-18 We should weep; for God has given us the freedom, the forgiveness, the life, which we could not win for ourselves. Our tears are not tears of separation but tears of homecoming; not tears of death but tears of life; not tears of a past but tears falling on a bedrock of hope for the future. Our sins have been taken away and we, through the accomplishment of another, have been brought to the Father and incorporated into his family forever. This is the gospel. George Guthrie  (The secular assumption is that) morality is relative—there are no absolutes. In such a worldview, confession and forgiveness are always something of a sham: Who is to say what a sin is? Why should I feel guilty for something I want to do? Who are you to declare whether I am forgiven or not? - Tim Keller “Forgiveness is not so much a word spoken, an action performed, or a feeling felt as it is an embodied way of life in an ever-deepening friendship with the Triune God and with others. As such, a Christian account of forgiveness ought not simply or even primarily be focused on the absolution of guilt; rather, it ought to be focused on the reconciliation of brokenness, the restoration of communion—with God, with one another, and with the whole creation.” - L. Gregory Jones

UNITED STATES MILITARY Mr. Jones has been involved with Electronics since the age of 5 yrs old. At age 5 Mr. Jones was building radios with his Father who was a Legendary Industrial Arts Teacher. At age 11 Mr. Jones was could design Audio Circuits. Upon entering the U.S. Air Force, his Electronic Aptitude Scores were through the roof. He went into the highly technical field of Avionic Electronics with a focus on Auto Pilot and Instrument Systems. Immediately after completing technical training, because of Mr. Jones' electronics scores, he was approached by Air Force Officials ask if he would like to be a part of the highly secretive U.S. Air Force's STEALTH Program. UNITED STATES TREASURY DEPARTMENT After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Jones entered the U.S. Treasury Department as a Senior Network Operations Center Engineer. 100's of Millions of Dollars are spent to teach STEALTH Program Members how to “Think Differently”, “Outside-The-Box.” Mr. Jones began applying said methodologies gained from the STEALTH Program to solve long-standing problems within the Treasury Department and thus, he began creating solutions that were adopted Agency-wide. In this final Sustainability in Alentejo episode, I speak with João Barroso, manager of the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme (WASP). [Visit https://genn.cc for more info or support this channel on https://patreon.com/genncc] We discuss how the programme evolved from a need to respond to worsening climatic conditions, into a solid certification programme to help communicate the measured results of producers who take sustainability seriously. João also discusses how the programme consciously developed a knowledge-sharing network to accelerate the uptake of best practices. Some of these best practices include the use of regenerative farming which, in a drought-prone region like Alentejo, is showing very positive results. The difference here, as João says, is between trying to survive in a desert, or, thriving in a garden of Eden. Either way, viticulture at higher temperatures has to mean working with nature, as Professor Kimberly Nicholas has said earlier in the series. The last point, as Dr Gregory Jones mentioned earlier, is about finding ways to expand these best practices beyond the regional level to the national and international levels. This is where the wine producers and journalists and communicators interface to tell those stories. It seems to me that it is up to all of us to try and decode what is behind the certification labels. We do this best by telling the stories of contemporary viticulture that respects nature, promotes stewardship of the land, and ultimately inspires trust in consumers that the wine industry is on a sustainable pathway.

There was a contestant on American Ninja Warrior and he had a shirt on that said, Live Wide. Gregory Jones is the father of the kid that did the American Ninja Warrior. Gregory Jones was diagnosed with lung cancer, and he promised to live out his remaining years with the motto living wide. He was given four years left to live. And so he said, I'm going to live out these remaining years with my motto living wide, that living wide meant living each day to its fullest and never wasting a moment. So we shared how this impacts our lives and talked about experiences that are relatable. Once you lose purpose, what's the point? And according to Gregory Jones' son, those final years were some of the best years of his father's life because the family focused on spending as much meaningful time together as possible. We thought this applied to the way we have lived our lives, because we've always just taken grasp of opportunity. We attended college in Florida, worked in Disney World and on cruise ships for 10 yrs and visited awesome places at such a young age when we could take advantage of the opportunities. Gregory and his son reminded us we needed to keep on doing it.  Every moment we're not working, we should ask ourselves if we are doing what we want to do.  Sometimes, we are so focused on business, we lose sight of the time that we should be spending with family and the wonderful moments of life that are lost. As he describes it, holy friends are “the people who around us who challenge the sins we've come to love, affirm the gifts we're afraid to claim, and dream dreams we otherwise wouldn't have dreamed.” And if we can just break free of our isolation and shame long enough to connect with them, they can help us build a closer relationship with God than we might have ever thought possible.Visit The Redeemed's website for group discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony. The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles.

The basic story of the rise, reign, and fall of deconstruction as a literary and philosophical groundswell is well known among scholars. In this intellectual history, Gregory Jones-Katz aims to transform the broader understanding of a movement that has been frequently misunderstood, mischaracterized, and left for dead—even as its principles and influence transformed literary studies and a host of other fields in the humanities. Deconstruction: An American Institution (The University of Chicago Press, 20121) begins well before Jacques Derrida's initial American presentation of his deconstructive work in a famed lecture at Johns Hopkins University in 1966 and continues through several decades of theoretic growth and tumult. While much of the subsequent story remains focused, inevitably, on Yale University and the personalities and curriculum that came to be lumped under the “Yale school” umbrella, Deconstruction makes clear how crucial feminism, queer theory, and gender studies also were to the lifeblood of this mode of thought. Ultimately, Jones-Katz shows that deconstruction in the United States—so often caricatured as a French infection—was truly an American phenomenon, rooted in our preexisting political and intellectual tensions, that eventually came to influence unexpected corners of scholarship, politics, and culture. Oswald Chambers notably says, “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” We often hear the word prayer and think this is something that prepares us for the next step, or prayer is merely an opportunity to come before God and ask Him for things. In reality, prayer is so much more! Prayer is direct communion with God. The same God who holds the stars in place and who knew me before I was born, yearns to hear from me and wants to be known. Through prayer, I see my own neediness and how God is always at work. Seek to grow in your commitment to prayer today! Incredible things happen in our lives when we commit to being men and women of prayer.

Text: Matthew 18:15-35 Title: The Power to People “A triangulated relationship is any three person relationship that should have two people in it…Gossip is always a form of triangulation, as are most middle school relationships.” - Steve Cuss “In an environment of suspicion, assuming the best is a revolutionary act.” Matt Smethurst “Most people don't want accurate information, they want validating information. Growth requires you to be open to unlearning ideas that previously served you.” - James Clear  “In this context Jesus is almost certainly referring to the procedures of vs. 15–17 involving the withholding or bestowing of forgiveness and fellowship.” Craig Blomberg “The next story—the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant—confirms this. The servant there, who at first is repentant and forgiven, is loosed; but when this same servant proves to be vindictive, he is literally bound and cast into prison. “Binding and loosing,” then, simply means banning and forgiving, the church's announcing in the name and power of Christ the loss of life to the unrepentant and the gift of life to the repentant.” Dale Bruner “Forgiveness is not so much a word spoken, an action performed, or a feeling felt as it is an embodied way of life in an ever-deepening friendship with the Triune God and with others… Forgiveness does not mean risk your life, but it does require our death.” - L. Jamalyn Peigh Williamson - Jamalyn and husband, David lived in Fondwa, Haiti from 2003-2005 and consider Fondwa like home. Before founding Zanmi Fondwa (https://zanmifondwa.com), Jamalyn held a variety of roles in the United Methodist Church as an ordained Elder. Outside the office, Jamalyn loves hanging out with her family, watching sports and drinking coffee with friends. You can find Jamalyn on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jpeighwilliamson and Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/jpw675.Rev. Kim King - Kim has been a practicing therapist since 2007. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and an Ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church. Helping people heal and realize their true potential is her calling. She believes that the emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical components of humans are inextricably intertwined. Therefore, all aspects of the human must be and are by default, engaged in the therapeutic process for change to occur. Prior to working as a therapist, she served United Methodist congregations in Pastoral roles for 10 years and held a variety of corporate (Fortune 500) roles prior to her congregational work. She is a graduate of Christian Theological Seminary (MDiv & MAMFT) and Indiana Wesleyan University (BSBA, Magna cum Laude). Kim is also an AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy) Approved Supervisor. https://kimkingcounseling.com/about/. You can find Kim on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/kimberly.f.king.7 and Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/kimkingindyZionsville United Methodist Church - https://www.zumc.orgSacraments - Sacraments are practices ordained by Jesus and given to his followers, in order to help us live more fully into His Story. By “practices” I mean things we do again and again and again (often in worship). They are ordained (commanded) by Christ: When Jesus first shares communion with is disciples, he tells us to “do this in remembrance of me.” His final command to the disciples was to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Sacraments are rooted in story--they call to mind the story of Christ, what he did on our behalf and how he showed us to live. And they point toward the ongoing presence and grace of God within our lives.Baptism - There's arguments about how you should be baptized (sprinkling, pouring, or full immersion in water). We also disagree about how often you need to be baptized. Some churches teach you have to baptized anew with every profession of faith, or to be part of their specific congregation, while others (including Methodists) affirm only one baptism is sufficient for your lifetime. And probably the biggest debate centers around when you can receive that baptism--how old do you have to be? Is there an age of accountability for which we should wait, or can others (like your parents) make the decision to have you baptized?Missionary Baptist Church - Missionary Baptists are a group of Baptists that grew out of the missionary / anti-missionary controversy that divided Baptists in the United States in the early part of the 19th century, with Missionary Baptists following the pro-missions movement position. Those who opposed the innovations became known as anti-missions or Primitive Baptists. Since arising in the 19th century, the influence of Primitive Baptists waned as "Missionary Baptists became the mainstream". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missionary_Baptists What is a Deacon? - https://www.britannica.com/topic/deacon Baptismal Font - In the Christian world, a baptismal font is not a fancy script or style or writing. It's a piece of furniture. Specifically, the baptismal font is the receptacle in which water is held for the baptism, one of the most important rituals in Christian churches. https://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-a-baptismal-font-definition-design.html Matt Bays (Finding God in the Ruins: How God Reddems Pain) - When the reality of your pain doesn't line up with what you've been taught in church, then what? While many abandon their faith or embrace hopelessness, it is possible to discover the God who heals your heart in the midst of the pain. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25779509-finding-god-in-the-ruins You can find Matt on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/mattbays70 and Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/mattbayswriter United Methodist Church - The United Methodist Church was created in 1968, but Methodism dates back to John and Charles Wesley who sought to spread the Methodist movement they began as student small group at Oxford. At about the same time, people like Philip Otterbein and Martin Boehm were leading similar movements that helped people grow in their faith. Those two strands of Christianity came together decades later to form The United Methodist Church. https://www.umc.org Two Point Charge - In The United Methodist Church, some smaller congregations will share a pastor. If a pastor is in charge of leading two churches, this is often referred to as a “two point charge.”Confirmation - United Methodists use the term "confirmation" to mark the first time a baptized Christian publicly "confirms" their intention to live the vows of the baptismal and membership covenant and so becomes a professing member of the local congregation and The United Methodist Church.https://www.umc.org/en/content/ask-the-umc-what-do-i-need-to-know-about-confirmation-in-the-united-methodist-church Dr. Gregory Jones, Dean of Duke Divinity School - “The problem is not that we baptize children when they are too young to remember. The problem is that we don't raise them to understand what it means to be baptized.”

Listen along as we continue our series looking at the character of God from Exodus 34:6-7 Sermon Notes/Quotes: Exodus 34:6-7Isaiah 55:8-9Isaiah 55:6-7 “The natural flow of the fallen human heart is toward reciprocity, tit-for-tat payback, equanimity, balancing of the scales. We are far more intractably law-ish than we realize. There is something healthy and glorious buried in that impulse, or course—made in God’s own image, we desire order and fairness rather than chaos. But that impulse, like every part of us, has been diseased by the ruinous fall into sin. Our capacity to apprehend the heart of God has gone into meltdown. We are left with an impoverished view of how he feels toward his people…So God tells us in plain terms how tiny our natural views of his heart are. His thoughts are not our thoughts. His ways are not our ways.” - Dane Ortlund “Forgiveness is not so much a word spoken, an action performed, or a feeling felt as it is an embodied way of life in an ever-deepening friendship with the Triune God and with others. As such, a Christian account of forgiveness ought not simply or even primarily be focused on the absolution of guilt; rather, it ought to be focused on the reconciliation of brokenness, the restoration of communion—with God, with one another, and with the whole creation.” - L. Gregory Jones "Forgiveness does not mean ignoring what has been done or putting a false label on an evil act. It means, rather, that the evil act no longer remains as a barrier to the relationship. Forgiveness is a catalyst creating the atmosphere necessary for a fresh start and a new beginning" Martin Luther King Jr.
