It turns out that superheroes and ‘saints' enjoy beer and cocktails, particularly when the libations are of the non-alcoholic variety. The hosts chat about actor Tom Holland's foray into CPG with NA beer Bero, before riffing on an enlightening collaboration between an up-and-coming wine company and personal care brand. We also feature an interview with Megan Klein, the founder and CEO of Little Saints, an innovative brand of non-alcoholic cocktails infused with functional mushrooms, who recently appeared on “Shark Tank.” Little Saints markets several canned cocktails, including a Paloma, Negroni Spritz, Ginger Mule and Spicy Margarita, and also sells a mezcal-inspired spirit called St. Ember. While the products are primarily sold direct-to-consumer, the brand is carried nationally at Sprouts and rapidly expanding distribution at other retail chains. Show notes: 0:25: It's A Wrap. Save Money & Be The Best. Gold, Tom. Red Wine, White Teeth. Swiss Bourbon. Pita & Garlic. – Ray ties a bow on the hosts' recent visit to London and the hosts collectively encourage listeners to save money by registering for our Winter events TODAY and also nominate brands, people and products for our annual awards. They also comment on a handful of collaborations, including one between McBride Sisters wine and Colgate(!), a bourbon flavored by a well-known cocoa brand and a sparkling beverage company that's working with a lauded baking partner. The hosts also share their take on Koia's new kids' drinks, spicy delights from a British brand with Mexican roots, low- and non-alcoholic spirits, and a new line of restaurant-style pita chips that pair perfectly with a new garlic-y condiment (just ask John). 32:59: Interview: Megan Klein, Founder & CEO, Little Saints – Megan discusses how her personal interest in better-for-you adult libations led to the creation of Little Saints. She also speaks about the brand's unorthodox social media strategy, why dropping CBD from the products had a big impact on sales, why the company invests heavily in Meta ads, how Little Saints navigated a controversial issue and how she prepared for an appearance on the ABC business competition show “Shark Tank.” Brands in this episode: Little Saints, Trip, Cano Water, MUYU, Bero, McBride Sisters, Swiss Miss, Hotel Tango, Aura Bora, Magnolia Bakery, Koia, Chili Maven, Allora, Quarter Proof, Climbing Kites, Outrageous, Issa's, Momofuku
The crew reviews and compares the Hotel Tango Port & Midwinter's Night Dram Act 11 Scene 3. These as of now are my two favorite Port finishes of the year. It's early in the year, but damn these were both delicious. Picking one over the other was harder than I expected.

In 2013, the Indiana Legislature created a path for artisan distillers to produce and sell spirits to the public by the glass, bottle or case. The hope was to start a micro-distilling industry in Indiana, and one of the first businesses to take the leap was called Hotel Tango Distillery. It was co-founded by husband-and-wife attorneys Travis and Hilary Barnes. With the help of a handful of investors, they opened a production facility and tasting room in an early 20th century carriage house in the Fletcher Place neighborhood. In eight years, it has grown to three tasting rooms in Indiana and retail sales in 25 states and on 120 military bases around the world. For 2022, Travis Barnes expects total sales of about $6 million. Travis is a former Marine who served in the elite special operations Reconnaissance force. He enlisted right after 9/11, and it turned out to be a life-changing experience, going well beyond the serious injuries he suffered in Iraq. A lot of what he learned in the military is encoded in the values and processes of Hotel Tango. In this week's edition of the IBJ Podcast, he discusses Hotel Tango's creation, its rocketing sales and how one of the state's first micro-distilleries could establish such a big footprint in less than a decade. The IBJ Podcast is brought to you by Taft.

On this week’s episode of Life and Lessons, you’re going to hear a conversation I had with Ben Pearson.Ben was in West Yorkshire Police for 19 years, ending up in the force's traffic unit, where you might have seen him on Channel 5’s Police Interceptors.A series of life events caused Ben to eventually leave the police, for the benefit of his own mental health, and he now spends his time helping to create conversations about mental health – and the impacts of policing. He’s also the author of the book Handcuffed Emotions, and is working on a second book, Hotel Tango 23, which is out later this year. In the next hour, you’re going to learn: What checks the police are really making when they’re behind your car, and what plays into the decision to pull you over How a police chase really unfolds, and the countless observations and considerations that go into the act of stopping a fleeing car The real-world mental health impact of being in the police, and having to deal with death and destruction day after day What Ben is doing to change the mental health narrative in the police, to help others who are going through the things that he has already experiencedAnd so much more. This conversation is a really interesting one but also a really important one.On the other hand, I got to ask all of the questions I’ve always asked to a traffic police officer, who has pursued and stopped countless cars and criminals. But on the other hand, to hear Ben’s story, the things he has been through, and the reflection he has taken from those challenges, is really important and has to be heard.Ben PearsonHandcuffed Emotions on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Handcuffed-Emotions-Police-Interceptors-Darkness/dp/B08P1H4735Twitter: https://twitter.com/bs_pearsonYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX0bqYPwTWt1PTnD7_BqUPg/featuredSean SpoonerInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/spoonersean/Twitter: https://twitter.com/spoonerseanJoin My Newsletter: https://seanspooner.co.uk/emailPatter: https://patter.co.uk/Make sure that you're subscribed to Life and Lessons on whatever platform you use for podcasts. In this well-lubricated (thanks, Hotel Tango!) episode of Forging Flame, we sit down with hometown hero and Midwestern heartthrob, Mike Angel. On top of being one of the most charming and effortlessly charismatic dudes we’ve ever met, Mike is a super-talented musician and an entrepreneurial alchemist with a footprint larger than a Bigfoot Yancey track! (Get it??) A bit of bio - Mike is the co-founder of the (former) Virginia Avenue Music Fest in Indianapolis, co-owner of Square Cat Vinyl (https://www.squarecatvinyl.com/), an online record store and local super-hang, and vocalist/guitarist/songwriter for Bigfoot Yancey (https://bigfootyancey.com/), a regionally-adored Americana/folk foursome with the uncanny ability to sonically create distinct moments in time with snapshot clarity. We had a spirited discussion with Mike over a couple glasses of bourbon, where we cover everything from nomadic van-dwelling to drunken business pitches, with plenty of music talk and townie feather-ruffling in between. Talking with Crazy Mike was an absolute blast...maybe even a bit TOO fun, and we’re pretty confident you’ll fall in love with the guy, too. NO FEES! Disabled Veteran Travis Barnes, his wife Hilary, and some friends started Hotel Tango in 2014. To honor Travis’ military service, they named their distillery based on the NATO phonetic alphabet - Hotel for Hilary, Tango for Travis. Surrounding themselves with exceptional people at every level, they focus on crafting equally exceptional spirits. Spirits that reflect Travis’s exacting standards. Spirits that are fit to serve and made to share. In this episode, we interview Ginger Barnes (Vice President of Operations) and Kelsey Strohmeyer (Brand Manager) at Hotel Tango Artisan Distillery. They share the story of the company, the culture there, and the amazing work that the company did to produce sanitizer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Special Guests: Ginger Barnes and Kelsey Strohmeyer.

There’s another Hunckler building community in Indianapolis? This week we chat with Matt Hunckler about the entrepreneurial career that led him to accidentally start Powderkeg. Matt, brother to alumni Josie Hunckler of Rabble Coffee, spent his youth designing buildings, desirous of being an architect. While visiting friends at IU during his freshman year at Purdue, Matt would drop-in to the #1 rated entrepreneurship school in the country where he learned how concepts like accounting and finance were the building blocks of a business. As you might expect, Matt transferred to IU, where he started his first business after listening to alumni Scott Hill's presentation about his experience as an entrepreneur. After graduation and while in the Orr Fellowship, he started a group called Verge for entrepreneurs in the tech space to get feedback on their projects. It wasn’t his intention for it to grow, but it’s now a comprehensive, curated platform to connect the right people to the right culture in tech. Specifically, in areas that do not have a dense population of talent. Take a sip of your Hotel Tango whiskey as we learn about how vital culture match is to employee retention, about the growing tech community and industry, and the struggles of growing a lifestyle business. We even have a special, uninvited guest who tunes in. Drink deep of the culture that surrounds you this week with Matt Hunckler of Powderkeg. Visit the Powderkeg website here!
