As the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East continues to evolve, several key developments have introduced new dynamics in Turkish-Iranian bilateral ties. The shifting dynamics in Syria have placed Tehran at odds with Ankara during the crisis, but the two regional powers have managed to engage in dialogue through the Astana process, alongside Russia. As Turkish-Syrian relations have shown signs of thawing in recent months, the potential implications for Türkiye-Iran relations remain uncertain. The recent Iran-Saudi Arabia deal, brokered by China, marks a significant milestone in regional diplomacy in a new era of rapprochement between two long-term rivals. The ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as the lack of progress in the nuclear file, have potentially significant implications for Türkiye's relations with Iran. How will the Astana process impact their bilateral ties? Can the Iran-Saudi rapprochement open new doors for stability in the Middle East? What role does Iran's nuclear program play in shaping Türkiye's perspective on the regional dynamics? The SETA Foundation at Washington DC is pleased to convene a panel of experts to shed light on the complex regional factors influencing Turkish-Iranian bilateral ties. Speakers Alex Vatanka, Founding Director of the Iran Program, Middle East Institute Hakkı Uygur, President, Center for Iranian Studies (İRAM) Kadir Ustun, Executive Director, The SETA Foundation at Washington DC Moderator Kilic Kanat, Executive Director, The SETA Foundation at Washington DC --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/seta-dc/support

The Saudi-Iran "peace deal" is a promising development in the ongoing rivalry between the two regional powers. China should be applauded for whatever role they played in moving things forward. But the "deal" is being blown massively out of proportion. While some analysts see the Chinese role in these negotiations as a challenge to American power, commentators that actually know the region argue that it does not necessarily threaten American interests and could even present opportunities for the United States. The fact is that Saudi Arabia and Iran have been tentatively exploring restoring relations for four years now. The "Deal" we're celebrating consists of incremental moves and tenuous commitments that are already being argued over by various regional actors. We should all hope that the deal lasts, but if it were to fall apart tomorrow, there really isn't much that China can do about it. In today's podcast we tease out the implications, or lack thereof for Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and the Saudi relationship with the United States. This episode's discussion of the massive new purchase of Boeing 737s by Saudi Arabia was heavily influenced by Rob's favorite substack, Foreign Exchanges, you should check those guys out... https://fx.substack.com/

On Friday, March 10, 2023, Iran and Saudi Arabia reached a peace agreement, largely with the help of China. The deal was hosted by the Chinese government in Beijing. Observers indicate that this represents the rise of Chinese influence and the waning of US influence in the region. Iran and Saudi Arabia had severed diplomatic relations in 2016.
Recently there was an alliance made between Iran and Saudi Arabia, is there significance with this alliance?

The life and exploits of Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, aka MBS.Mohammed bin Salman is the uncrowned king of Saudi Arabia, ruling the Kingdom with an iron fist. He took power by force and coercion from Muhammad bin Nayef and he consolidated that power by kidnapping, detaining and torturing members of the Saudi Royal Family and prominent businessmen like Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in the Ritz Carlton hotel in Riyadh, he even kidnapped the Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri and imprisoned his own mother. He also ordered the murder and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2017. If you enjoy our content, please become a patron to get our premium exclusive episodes, and our public episodes ad-free. 1 MBS also has an army of flies, tiger squads, gold cars and a lavish lifestyle, he owns the world's most expensive home, the Serene $500M yacht and Leonardo Da Vinci's Salvator Mundi, but the painting he paid $450M for proved to be a fake. MBS has a very dual personality: he's modern but also medieval at the same time. The Saudi state essentially treats women as permanent legal minors. But MBS is also implementing Vision 2030 to modernize Saudi Arabia, he allowed women to drive, he brought back cinemas, he reduced the power of the religious police and clerics, he wants green energy cities, and to move away from dependency on oil. 2 In the context of president Biden's upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and meeting with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and MBS, “the reset”, with a gallon of oil priced $5, we think it's important to also highlight the relations between US and Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region like Qatar, Yemen, Syria, , Bahrain, Lebanon (United Arab Emirates), as well as the Iran – Saudi Arabia proxy conflict, known as the Middle Eastern Cold War. Saudi Arabia has a young population, 60% of Saudis are under 30 and use Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. MBS' army of flies – bots and hackers - created by Saud Al Qahtani ensures that no critical posts happen, and his tiger squads – hitmen – target those who dissent like Saad Al Jabri. Women can now drive but Saudi Arabia still imprisons activists like Loujain al Hathloul. Some of the laws governing sex segregation have been relaxed, but Saudi Arabia's guardianship system ensures that men still have ultimate control over most aspects of women's lives. We also discuss the beheadings in Chop Chop Square (Deera or Al-Safaa Square), the executions of those who oppose the regime, the arrest of Ali Nimr during the Arab Spring, the lashing of blogger Raif Badawi, MBS' war in Yemen, and we draw a parallel between Mohammed Bin Salman and Putin. We also discuss the connection between the Wahhabi-Salafi Islam ideology in Saudi Arabia and Daesh (Isis), Al Qaida, and other terrorist groups: the ideology is so similar that the manuals used by Saudi kids in school are the same books used in terrorist indoctrination schools in the caliphate areas. The Trump visit in Saudi Arabia and the glowing orb in the now infamous photo depicting King Salman, Trump and Egypt's president Abdel Fattah al Sisi touching the orb is also a point of discussion. 3 1. No moment has changed the modern Middle East more fundamentally than the year 1979. Within months, three major events sparked a deep rivalry that plagues the world to this day. In Iran, a popular revolt took down the Shah, but a theocratic government seized the vacuum and took his place. In Saudi Arabia, a group … Continue reading Up To Speed: Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the Islamic Unraveling

We speak to Oscar-winning director Bryan Fogel about his new BAFTA-nominated film ‘The Dissident’, which focuses on the life and murder of Saudi-American Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. He discusses his motivations to make the film as a journalist, Israeli software that the Saudis used to hack into the phone of Jamal Khashoggi, allegations that MBS was behind the hack of Jeff Bezos’ phone as revenge for its reporting of the Jamal Khashoggi murder, Saudi Arabia’s massive social media bot campaign, the CIA report on Khashoggi’s murder which points at Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman being behind the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, the Biden administration’s refusal to impose sanctions on Mohammed bin Salman himself and much more! Finally, we speak to President and Founder of the Saudi-American Public Relations Affairs Committee, Salman Al-Ansari. He argues that the Jamal Khashoggi case has been politicised to damage Saudi Arabia, and that the US and human rights organisations should not be lecturing Saudi Arabia after the US’ numerous wars in the Middle East, he denies Saudi Arabia’s alleged links to Al-Qaeda and ISIS, the proposal for Iran-Saudi Arabia peace and much more!

Host Pedro Gatos and his guest Dr. Sahimi emphasize the effects of the holocaust against the Yemenese. Dr. Sahimi addresses the question of whether Iran is the leading state sponsor of terrorism – is this accurate or overstated?
Host Pedro Gatos highlights contemporary context of the 9/14/19 drone and missile attacks. Dr. Sahimi recounts the Joint Nuclear agreement, the US's unilateral withdrawal, and the intensified sanctions under President Trump.
Dr. Sahimi details the long history of the rocky relationship between Saudi Arabia and Iran, specifically, how Iran's victimization by Saudi Arabia has enabled terrorism on its territory. We discuss the proven capabilities of the Houthis including the August 2019 attack on Saudi Arabia using 10 drones against the Shaybah oil fields in South-East Saudi Arabia.
There has been a sharp rise in rhetoric between the United States and Iran in the wake of 10 drone attacks on Saudi oil installations, on top of already high tensions in the Persian Gulf. Hey everyone! First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link. Today we talked about this weekend's biggest controversy. That's right, it's time to talk about Brett Kavanaugh again. Apparently the left are out of fresh talking points and would like your attention diverted to the ongoing "War on Women." We also discussed the real issue from the weekend. That's the bombing that took place on the oil fields in Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is of course blaming Iran, and is "locked and loaded" ready to do the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's bidding at the moment of their choosing. Why is it our job to conduct the first strike on Iran? Saudi Arabia has a military- a pretty big one. They actually spend 8x more money than Iran on their military. They are in fact the 3rd largest military in relation to GDP in the world, and #2 in relation to their Government budget. Saudi is a nation of 30 million people. That makes them matched with Canada and Australia in population size. Not exactly a tiny country that cannot be expected to defend itself. When we look at the desire for war held by those on the right, and even the left, we need to ask who we are defending, and why. Saudi Arabia has a terrible history when it comes to human rights. Their treatment of women is despicable. Women are still not allowed to travel or conduct business without permission from their male guardians. They only last year received the right to drive a car. They are not allowed to swear an oath in court- their male guardian must swear the oath. They have a deep and ongoing history of persecution against homosexuals, and women who step out of line. Why are we ready to send our son, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters, to die for them? Why are we so eager to die for them, when they have their own military? Why is it not on S.A. to retaliate against Iran? Visit www.goodmorningliberty.us for more great articles on politics, economics, and Libertarian ideology. Missiles, fighter jets and mines waiting on the sea bed - war games in the gulf. Tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia is at an unprecedented level since a missile was intercepted over Saudi Arabia's capital city. The Saudi Crown Prince blames Iran and says the attack may be considered an act of war. This is what would happen if they did go to war. President Trump’s first visit to the Middle East demonstrated a notable shift in US policy toward the region. In a marked departure from the policies of the Obama administration, the president not only embraced the Sunni Arab states, but signed a $110 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia, and stated that he will not lecture the Kingdom or other Arab autocracies on human rights issues. He also initiated a review of the Iranian nuclear deal, gave greater military emphasis to US actions in the area, and called for states in the region to isolate Iran. Meanwhile, elections in Iran have given President Rouhani a broader mandate to open Iran’s economy further. How will President Trump’s policies and actions impact America’s relations with Saudi Arabia, the nuclear deal with Iran and the prospect of ending arduous conflicts as seen in Syria and Yemen? Will this further increase tensions, or is there potential for renewed diplomatic cooperation between the US, Saudi Arabia and Iran? Banafsheh Keynoush, a geopolitical and communications consultant, Jessica Tuchman Mathews, distinguished fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Ambassador Hossein Mousavian, Middle East security expert at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, will discuss the US - Iran - Saudi Arabia nexus and whether we are destined for renewed diplomacy or conflict in the Middle East.
