It's been four years since the first American death from the coronavirus. Four years since we were told that wearing masks—even cloth masks—were essential to keeping us safe. The same goes for lockdowns and social distancing. Any inconvenience to society was outweighed by the lives saved. And remember what President Biden told us after Covid vaccines were rolled out a year later? “The CDC is saying, they have concluded, that fully vaccinated people are at a very, very low risk of getting Covid-19,” Biden said in a Rose Garden press conference. We now know that so much of what we were told in those years was wrong. (Last week, Anthony Fauci admitted in closed-door congressional testimony that the six-feet apart rule was “likely not based on scientific data.”) And if the guidance wasn't flat-out wrong, it was certainly debatable. But debate was not only discouraged—it was shut down. Respected dissident scientists were dismissed as fringe scientists. They were deplatformed on social media. For most of us, all of this seems like a lifetime ago. But the problem is that here we are, four years later; millions of Americans suffered, more than a million died, and it's not clear we have any better understanding of what exactly went wrong. How was it that our leaders—and our economy—were so brutally underprepared for a global pandemic? That's what today's conversation on Honestly is about. Guest host Michael Moynihan talks to The Free Press's own Joe Nocera about his new book, co-authored with Bethany McLean: The Big Fail: What the Pandemic Revealed About Who America Protects and Who It Leaves Behind. The Big Fail takes a critical look at what the pandemic uncovered about our leaders, our broken trust in government, and the vulnerability of the biggest economy in the world. Nocera also investigates the perverse incentives (and devastating effects) of hospital systems and nursing homes run by private equity firms. All this makes him ask: Does capitalism have its limitations when it comes to healthcare? Most importantly: Are we able to learn our lesson from the Covid pandemic and do better when the next emergency hits us? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's Thursday, June 29th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nearly 5 billion people experience severe violations of religious freedom Aid to the Church in Need released their 2023 Religious Freedom in the World report. Nearly 5 billion people worldwide experience severe violations of religious freedom in 61 countries. The worst persecution occurs in just 28 countries, affecting 4 billion people, or about half of the world's population. The report noted, “During the period under review, intense persecution became more acute and concentrated, and impunity grew.” Countries with the worst religious liberty violations include Afghanistan, China, India, North Korea, and Nigeria. Barclay's bank pays $25,000 fine for Christian persecution A British bank agreed to a settlement with a Christian ministry this week for closing its account. Barclays Bank must pay the equivalent of over $25,000 to Core Issues Trust. In 2020, the bank caved to homosexual and transgender activists. Barclay's shut down the Christian ministry's account. Core Issues Trust is the primary Christian ministry in the U.K. that helps people with unwanted homosexual attraction. Mike Davidson with Core Issues Trust said, “Through this case we have exposed Barclays' pre-emptive political activity in trying to damage and silence our charity and the work we do as part of the Christian church.” The deceptive “Equality Act” Last week, the U.S. Congress reintroduced the deceptively titled “Equality Act.” The act protects sexually perverted lifestyles and threatens the freedom of those who disagree with them. It's been introduced in Congress since 2015 but has generally died in committee. Alliance Defending Freedom released a statement on the issue. The group said, “Government promotion of radical gender-identity ideology is endangering children, violating parents' and women's rights, and eroding our constitutionally protected freedom to think, speak, and act according to our consciences.” In Psalm 94:20-21, David asks, “Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, have fellowship with [the Lord]? They gather together against the life of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.” COVID fraudsters abused $200 billion of tax money At least 17% of America's COVID-19 relief programs went to potentially fraudulent actors. The U.S. Small Business Administration inspector released the estimate on Tuesday. Fraudsters could have taken as much as $200 billion from the Paycheck Protection and COVID-19 Economic Inquiry Disaster Loan programs. A recent Associated Press analysis estimates the U.S. wasted or misspent another $123 billion in COVID funds. Kirk Cameron blasts pride Kirk Cameron has had enough of the Left's month-long push of pride. Today, on Generations Radio, as I guest host for Kevin Swanson, I interview the Christian actor about his second children's book entitled Pride Comes Before the Fall. He advocates that children embrace the Biblical virtue of humility instead. CAMERON: “Pride can infect me. In fact, pride almost took me down as a famous actor in Hollywood, as a young kid. I had to be humbled. It was the Gospel that humbled me. “Now, I want to think of others before myself. I think if we really want to love other people, if we really want to not be harmful, and say things that put others in danger, pride is not the answer. Humility is! That's what this book is trying to teach kids.” To hear my entire 26-minute interview with Kirk Cameron, go to Generations.org/radio. Richard Dawkins' right-hand man trusts Christ And finally, evangelist Ray Comfort recently shared how God brought a prominent atheist to faith in Christ. Josh Timonen was a committed atheist and worked closely with Richard Dawkins, one of the world's leading atheist apologists. Josh walked away from working with Dawkins in 2010 following division in Dawkins's group. Josh experienced further disillusion with secular culture during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2020, he started reading the Bible and taking his family to church before putting his faith in Christ. Praise God! Today, Josh had this to say about atheism. TIMONEN: “Atheism is a really useful worldview for weak men.” Colossians 1:21-22 says, “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now [Christ] has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, June 29th in the year of our Lord 2023. This is the final day of America's COVID public health emergency, first declared when the coronavirus arrived and began a rampage that has claimed 1.1 million lives. Dr. Paul Alexander Liberty Hour – Scott Atlas has written, "America's COVID Response Was Based on Lies." I agree with him 100% and add to the list of lies that Scott, myself, Kulldorff, Bhattacharya, Gupta, Berenson, Ioannidis, Oskoui, McCullough, Risch, Smith, et al. were crying out, screaming in early 2020 to open up and not shut down, do not close schools, do not close...

It's Friday, March 24th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Similarities between Communist persecution & U.S. COVID shutdowns An expert who tackles Chinese Christian persecution sounded the alarm this week on parallels he sees between crackdowns perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party and America's COVID shutdowns, reports FaithWire.com. Bob Fu, president of ChinaAid, said, “It is very shocking and horrible to see American society's transformation evolving from its constitutional basis.” The nonprofit leader, who became a Christian in the Chinese underground church and even went to prison for leading house churches before escaping in 1996, said he believes the American Left is increasingly turning to “dictatorial” tactics, refusing to allow diverse voices. Fu said, “I saw the governor of California, [Gavin Newsom], basically proscribe and order the church to shut down and say not only when they can worship, but how. The ways that he threatened to punish those churches and pastors sometimes were word-for-word exactly the same as what the Chinese Communist Party is using against the Chinese churches.” Russian Christian fined for objecting to war against Ukraine Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Christian Russians who express their opposition to it on grounds of their faith, continue to be detained and fined under Russia's wartime laws punishing "discrediting the Armed Forces,” reports Evangelical Focus. Police arrested Rostislav Charushin in Moscow because he made a poster that quoted three of the Bible's Ten Commandments including “Thou shalt not kill.” (Exodus 20:13) He was fined twice on March 9 for both “discreditation” and violating the so-called Demonstrations Law. The political game at play in Trump's possible arrest Despite former President Trump's prediction that he would be arrested this past Tuesday over alleged hush payments he made indirectly to a disreputable actress, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg did not arrest him. Appearing on Fox News, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio, the House Judiciary Committee Chair, pointed to the political agenda at play. JORDAN: “First, they went after President Trump on Russia. Then, it was a phone call with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy. Then, they wanted his tax return. Then, they go after his business records. Then, they go after his children. And now it's some misdemeanor alleged bookkeeping error. “And this is from the prosecutor who initially didn't want to do this. In fact, he had people resign because he wasn't going to do this because no one else would bring this case. I mean, the DOJ didn't bring the case. The federal district in New York didn't bring the case. The previous prosecutor in the district there in Manhattan didn't bring the case. Mr. Bragg himself didn't want to bring the case. But then, he got pressured I think from the Left. The one thing that I think is changed his mind is President Trump announced he was going to run for president again.” Keep in mind, Alvin Bragg's election in November 2021 was funded by a $1 million donation from a political action committee, the Color Of Change, funded by Leftist billionaire George Soros. Colorado looked at banning all abortions On January 26th, Colorado Republican State Rep Scott Bottoms introduced a bill that would have banned all abortions in the Centennial State. Jeff Durbin, Director of End Abortion Now and a teaching elder at Apologia Church in Mesa, Arizona, urged Colorado lawmakers to support the bill. DURBIN: “They used to say, ‘I know it's technically a human. I know it looks like a person. It's not a person. It's a black man. I know it's technically human. It looks like a person. It's not a person. It's a Jew.' “Humanity is filled with this evil in this tyranny where we draw circles around ourselves and we dehumanize and butcher and tyrannize other human beings. This is a simple bill: human from the moment of fertilization. That's a fact. Equal protection for all humans -- in the womb and outside of the womb. “We all agree with the injustice of a white man killing a black man unjustly. But the pro-choice position is essentially saying, ‘We don't have a problem with that as long as it's in the womb.'” Sadly, on February 17th, in an 8-3 vote, the Colorado House Committee on Health & Insurance postponed the bill indefinitely. Christian wrestler says Muhammed false prophet And finally, a champion wrestler has come under fire for comments he made on Saturday about his Christian faith and suggesting that Muhammad is a false prophet after winning an NCAA title, reports Fox News. Penn State wrestler Aaron Brooks, age 22, shared his Christian beliefs after securing the victory, crediting the Lord for his triumph. BROOKS: “Christ's resurrection is everything. Not just His life, but His death and resurrection. You can only get that through Him, the Holy Spirit. Only through Him. No false prophets. No Muhammad, no anyone else. Only Jesus Christ Himself.” REPORTER: “Power and finesse, your calling card.” BROOKS: “The Holy Spirit. Acts chapter one, verse eight. Power, Holy Spirit power, is everything. That's where it's from.” Brooks won his third consecutive individual NCAA title on Saturday after beating a wrestler from Northern Iowa. REPORTER: “And put in perspective winning three of these in a row.” BROOKS: “God used me. He gives me this platform for this right here. It's all for His glory.” Brooks came under fire on social media for saying that Muhammad, the founder and main prophet of Islam, was a false prophet. Hemant Mehta tweeted, “It's wild to see a Christian athlete trash Muslims during a post-match interview by calling Muhammad a ‘false' prophet.” And Randy Patriot tweeted, “If it was a Muslim wrestler saying that Jesus was only a prophet, it wouldn't even be newsworthy. Why is it a big deal only when Christians profess their faith and belief? Christians know why.” In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, March 24th in the year of our Lord 2023. The COVID pandemic has taken the lives of 1 million Americans in two years (more than twice the amount of Americans who lost their lives in WWII in four years). This grim statistic came about because of a fundamentally broken, fragmented, expensive, inequitable, and occasionally unsafe healthcare system. If the mission of our $4 trillion healthcare system is to improve health and prevent death from disease, we could look to no greater example of failure than the COVID-19 pandemic. Global pandemics are always horrific, but they also represent wonderful opportunities to learn by taking advantages of the crises invoked. The COVID crash of American healthcare is not unlike an airline crash. Failure to learn and overcome our structural and cultural flaws will have calamitous results. The airplane (American healthcare) will continue to crash again and again. We would never tolerate these failures in aviation, but why do we accept them when it comes to healthcare? The answer ultimately comes down to misalignment of financial incentives (fee-for-service medicine) and cultural headwinds related to structural racism, American exceptionalism, lack of trust, and tribalism. On this week's episode of Race to Value, we interview Dr. David Nash about his new book co-written with Charles Wohlforth, “How COVID Crashed the System: A Guide to Fixing American Health Care.” Dr. David Nash is among the world's most respected experts on health care accountability, quality, and leadership. He is the founder of the Jefferson College of Population Health in Philadelphia and remains its founding dean emeritus. In this interview, we do a deep dive on his new book explaining what went wrong as it relates to COVID and health care delivery. This is a must-listen podcast as you will hear the unfiltered truth about the pandemic from the nation's foremost prophet of population health. This podcast will make you angry and sad, but it will also leave you with optimism for the future of value-based care and population health management. We can get better and do better by those we serve – we can win this Race to Value. And we also discuss her extensive research into Chinese Communist Party influence in America, from TikTok to compromised “fact-checkers” to serious conflicts of interest among the individuals that shaped America's COVID-19 policy. “Even since COVID-19, millions of dollars have continued to pour out of this country, taxpayer funds, to Chinese Communist Party-run labs and to fund research in China—when we know there's no transparency.” Editor's Note: Our team reached out to Galveston National Laboratory for comment, and we have since received the following email statement from a spokesperson from the University of Texas Medical Branch, which runs Galveston National Laboratory: “The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) takes responsibility for the oversight in allowing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to include a provision in conflict with applicable laws that guide UTMB's operations … Although MOUs are nonbinding and do not serve in any way as contractual agreements, upon learning of the error, the University of Texas System immediately directed UTMB to terminate any MOU that contained language that conflicts with law and policy. Dr. Anthony Fauci has been the face of America's Covid response and has been praised and vilified for his expertise. But who are all the other people who have worked behind the scenes at agencies like the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to guide America through the pandemic? This is a question Michael Lewis tackles in his book “The Premonition,” which was published in May 2021. He talks about how getting to know these public health experts gave him a completely different understanding of the country's public health system — and the systemic challenges institutions like the C.D.C. face when pandemics and other crises strike. In this conversation, Kara talks to Lewis about “The Premonition,” which he says was a “joyous writing experience.” They discuss the role that social media and the spread of misinformation online has played in hindering effective pandemic responses, as well as some of the characters he came across in his research for the book. It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Glenn and Stu pay a tribute to the influential man, while Stu theorizes why MLK Jr.'s beliefs on not judging people based on skin color have been lost in today's political realm. Stu makes the argument that MLK Jr. would be considered a conservative in today's society. Stu discusses the disconnect between the Democratic Party and everyday liberal Americans. Stu gives an update on America's COVID case and sickness rate. Stu explains the synagogue hostage situation that occurred over the weekend. Learn more about your ad choices. In the first episode of 2022, Alex covers a myriad of topics including the outcome of the Elizabeth Holmes trial, a disturbing op-ed by three retired US generals in which they warn of a potential coup in 2024, America's COVID testing problem, and thoughts on the Joe Rogan podcast and “mass formation psychosis.” In this episode: On December 17th, three retired generals put out a disturbing op-ed in the Washington Post. These three generals were Paul Eaton, Antonio Taguba, and Steven M. Anderson. In a nutshell, the article worries that the same doubts that have impacted the general public concerning who won the 2020 election have also hit the military. The generals paint the hypothetical scenario that in 2024, a large portion of the armed forces isn't sure who won the election. This is made worse by conflicting reports from military leaders. What if in 2024 there is another riot but this time the military is splintered and the rioters get support? The US has a testing problem and even after a summer of the Delta surge, policymakers and the private sector were still behind in producing enough. Alex goes into some of the reasons as to why this happened and what can be done. In general, it seems like the US lacked and still lacks any national strategy. Joe Rogan has recently gone fully into the anti-vaccine space and the idea of “mass formation psychosis” has been discussed by several of his recent guests. They argue that there is a nefarious plan to vaccinate the country and not discuss treatment methods or alternative options. Alex mentions how Dr. Malone recently said on the podcast that “When you have a society that has become decoupled from each other and has free-floating anxiety in a sense that things don't make sense, we can't understand it, and then their attention gets focused by a leader or series of events on one small point just like hypnosis, they literally become hypnotized and can be led anywhere.” People like Rogan and many on the right believe this describes the left's authoritarian shift during COVID. In reality, Alex argues that this idea better reflects what the Trump movement did to the right.

We're back after our summer break. Michael, Chris, Candis, and Jenna catch up on what happened over the summer, from COVID vaccine mandates to school board chaos to the refugee crisis in Afghanistan. The underlying theme of it all is one of democracy's central tensions — the collective vs. the individual. The tension between individual liberty and the common good plays itself out in America's COVID response, debates over how race and history are taught in schools, and how we respond to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. We discuss all of those issues this week and reflect on what our responsibilities are as democratic citizens. Pastor Greg Locke is a clear and present danger to America. He made it clear no one in his congregation should take COVID precautions else they'll be thrown out. Many wonder how it is possible that so many Americans can be so resistant to save their own lives. After all, there is a life-saving vaccine. Tennessee Pastor Greg Locke is a clear reason. Many in the GOP attempt to equate the Black Lives Matter protests with the Jan 6th attempted coup. Republican Adam Kinzinger dispels the fraud. Adam Kinzinger was emotional throughout the hearing. It is clear that the officers' testimony and video had the same effect on him as it had on most humane and patriotic Americans. It is easy to blame Republican politicians, Right-Wingers, and Evangelicals for COVID vaccine resistance. It is time to assign blame to reporters who lack critical thinking skills. Listening to the White House press briefing is a must. Yes, I do it, so you do not have to go through the tedium. I try to cover the worthy. Six months after the coronavirus appeared in America, the nation's ineffective response has failed to contain it. There is no unified national response and everything about it has become politicized. Testing continues to remain a problem with long wait times to be tested and to get results, which also makes contact tracing useless. While other countries were able to drive infection rates down, it seems that opening the country back up too soon and without proper guidelines may have been the biggest mistake. Joel Achenbach, reporter for the Washington Post, joins us for America's response to the coronavirus. Next, one of Hollywood's biggest moneymakers is being slowly killed off. In this episode of By Any Means Necessary hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by activist and political strategist Stacey Hopkins to talk about Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms' decision to mandate mask usage in Atlanta in defiance of Gov. Brian Kemp's policy at the state level, the challenges facing activists pushing for mail-in voting amid the pandemic, and why the real threat to democracy is posed not by voter fraud but by large-scale right-wing electoral fraud. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Denis Rogatyuk, an independent journalist, writer and researcher, to talk about the announcement by Bolivia's coup-borne regime that so-called "interim President" Jeanine Añez has tested positive for coronavirus, how this may impact the elections slated for Sept. 6th, and what the resignation of Ecuadorian Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner means for that country's increasing unstable right-wing government. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Brian Mier, co-editor of Brasil Wire and author of Year of Lead: Washington, Wall Street and the New Imperialism in Brazil, to talk about the new article from Brazil's Agencia Publica exposing the FBI's regular meetings with the authors of the infamous "Lava Jato" conspiracy which saw the right wing seize power from leftist President Lula de Silva, whether President Jair Bolsonaro's claims to have been diagnosed with coronavirus may be another "chloroquine commercial" within his strategy of "necropolitics," and why the best responses to coronavirus have come from socialist governments and the worst from capitalist states.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by social innovation activist Kendrick Jackson to talk about Bernie Sanders' suggestion that Democratic nominee Joe Biden would be "the most progressive president since FDR," how supposedly progressive politicians are used to muzzle revolutionary movements, and the wave of performative concessions by corporations to Black communities that didn't ask for them.

We discuss the small, but passionate, fan base of the Gaels, the buzz at Iona due to the arrival of Rick Pitino, and the luxury of having one of the deepest perimeter rotations in the TBT community. Was the foul that put them out to Armored Athlete in 2018 a tough call? What impact will grad transfer Diamond Stone have on their front court play? Can the Nation represent the rebound of New Rochelle, the home of Iona and the epicenter of America's COVID crisis? Deep, dangerous, and with scoring up and down the roster, can the GaelNation plant their flag in the 24 and play for $2M?
