Luke Williams joins the Slow Train to Heck to share his journey through and out of Christianity. Luke has lived through many different experiences in his life, and the message of suffering, and the expectation of suffering both now and in the future, was a strong one. NUGGET CONTEXT Ayelet speaks about how there is much more information in failures and in us mining the graveyards of failure than trying to overanalyze the factors behind success. Her assertion is that there is greater heterogeneity in failure that leads to richer information that could be helpful than the relative homogeneity of successes. She also goes on to speak about how we think about sharing positive and negative feedback with people. GUEST Ayelet Fishbach, Ph.D., is the Jeffrey Breakenridge Keller Professor of Behavioral Science and Marketing at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and the author of Get It Done: Surprising Lessons from the Science of Motivation. From there she goes to the other extreme which is the University of Chicago which is all about Capital Markets and incentives drive human behaviour. We then dive into her recent book and talk about the various elements of motivation – how we think about goal setting, psychological reactance and what it can teach us about parenting, motivating ourselves during the long middle, mining the silent graveyard of failure, the power of joint goals as illustrated by Madame Curie and much more.  Published in June 2022. Episode Summary Only 2% of Israelis live on a kibbutz, yet account for 10% of Israel's industry and 40% of it's agriculture. In this episode, The Teacher and the Preacher takes you behind the scenes to see what life on a kibbutz is really like, how it shaped the history of Israel and why it continues to capture the popular imagination. About the Teacher and The Preacher The Teacher and the Preacher is a weekly radio program--hosted by Dave McGarrah, Senior Pastor at Deer Flat Church in Caldwell, Idaho, and Harold Berman of Efrat, Israel--that airs each Sunday at 10:30 am and 7:30 pm here on 94.1 The Voice KBXL and also on Sunday evenings at 5 pm on our sister station 790 KSPD. They are a unique phenomenon on the airwaves – a Christian and a Jew in an ongoing dialogue – celebrating the many commonalities but never shying away from the differences. They offer their listeners insights into each other's faiths that don't come up much elsewhere, that can only come through sincere conversation. The weekly discussion is more than a program about a topic; it's a demonstration of how God can bring two people together from 9,000 miles away to bridge the differences, learn from each other, and strengthen their own faiths. If you would like to learn more about this fantastic radio ministry, please visit their website at theteacherandthepreacher.com.

These traumas and life situations show up in your hands. They are imprinted in your palms that can highlight your gifts as well as offer your answers for your life path. While in Israel I heard a member of the Kibbutz Asdot Ya’ako Ichod tell us about being a Kibbutz nick. My travel group, Road Scholar, heard him speak while we stayed at a hotel owned by the Kibbutz. The hotel, Nos Ginossar, is located beside the Sea of Galilee. This recording will provide listeners with some insight into the modern Israeli Kibbutz movement. The speaker is Yonatan (Johnathan) Alter. He is the Secretary of the Kibbutz’s Secretariat. You would consider him to be the mayor. Johnathan was born in the Kibbutz, so he is a second-generation Kibbutz nick who is raising the third generation. Lifestyles and choices are much different than the when he was born. Times have been much bleaker, even to the point of Kibbutz’s declaring bankruptcy. But, times are much better, Kibbutz membership is on the rise. This is a story that will help you understand more about why people want to be a part of this life.
