We are back to share a few more great performances from our team and other friends, and even Abby Taylor joins us to observe to see what's going on and enjoy the show. Beyond the hear out next week as we get to interview her as well, which we are very much looking forward to! Sorry, we meant to say on the lookout for a good interview next week which we are going to conduct with Abby TaylorFor a more descriptive adventure to see what we're getting into. We have paste the YouTube video description below, which you will find by searching vision cast on YouTube powered by story craze network.Get ready to dive headfirst into another hilariously chaotic episode of Vision Cast After Dark – where family-friendly goes to die and the real fun begins! Angela J (aka Cloud 11) is back, attempting to steer this runaway train, flanked by her ever-supportive co-host Phillip, while George, the resident "pain in the butt," provides commentary (and groans) from the virtual sidelines. This week, George makes a miraculous recovery from a pre-show seizure, proving his "resilient doodle" status yet again, much to the feigned chagrin of Angela who was almost free to have Phillip as her undisputed right-hand man for life. Alas, George couldn't bear the thought and showed up anyway, ready for the usual dose of affectionate torment. We're thrilled to welcome our special guest for the next few weeks, the multi-talented Abby Taylor! You might know her from the ACB community karaoke scene. In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, Abby shares a deeply moving and beautifully performed original poem, "Dad, Fats, and Me," recalling precious memories listening to Fats Waller's "Your Feet's Too Big" with her father. Get ready for goosebumps (and maybe grab a tissue!). Plus, tune in next week when we get to formally interview Abby!Hold onto your keyboards, tech fans! Donald unveils a mind-blowing surprise: a custom note-taking program created with Chat GPT! This slick browser app saves your notes automatically, can use Chat GPT to polish your text, and even integrates with 11 Labs to convert your notes into audio using your API key. The code itself? So complex it apparently makes Angela choke just looking at it! The best part? Donald generously offers a FREE copy to the entire Vision Cast crew (and Angela promises a bonus review episode soon!).The AI magic doesn't stop there! Angela and Phillip share their own creation, the unapologetically proud anthem "Unapologetically Bisexual With You," conjured into existence by the AI text-to-song generator, Udio. Angela also treats us (and possibly tortures George) with her hilarious Udio-generated parody of "Elvira," aptly titled... "Angela." We delve into the rapidly evolving world of AI music, and Angela gives Udio two thumbs up (especially over that other platform, Suno).Big news on the home front: Angela has officially escaped the basement! She's broadcasting live from her brand-new, upstairs studio. Say goodbye to questionable acoustics and (mostly) hello to fewer dog-related interruptions... though her adorable Belgian Malinois, Lulu, still manages a brief, heart-stealing cameo.Of course, it wouldn't be Vision Cast After Dark without the relentless roasting of George. Prepare for laughs as the crew discusses everything from his alleged "Micro Penis" to his new title, "Dime Dick Doodles." It's all in good fun... mostly. From heartfelt poetry and cutting-edge AI demonstrations to studio upgrades and side-splitting banter (mostly at George's expense), this episode is a rollercoaster of tech, talent, and pure Vision Cast chaos. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

It's April 2025 ... and that means it's national Jazz Appreciation Month here in the U.S.! Join host CH as she shares her own journey to not only coming to love the genre - particularly the classics and standards of the 1930s and 40s - but also how it has shaped her sense of musicianship when she resumed playing drums after a 10 year hiatus. She reflects on how the sounds of jazz surrounded her at a young age (even if she wasn't suuuuper interested at the time), and how her original love of playing pop/rock music evolved as her own musical leanings changed over time. She also reminds us of the importance of embracing music - no matter the genre - at any stage of life for the personal enrichment and inspiration it brings to us all.   Show Notes Jazz Appreciation Month (known as "JAM") runs from April 1 - April 30 in the U.S. It culminates with the international celebration of International Day of Jazz on April 30th. For those looking for more information and events that are scheduled for 2025, head over to the National Museum of American History, which founded JAM in 2001 (and of which is where CH pulled the quote that ended our episode). Additionally, CH highly recommends the Ken Burns PBS documentary film, "Jazz", for those looking for a comprehensive examination and tribute to jazz from its earliest origins up to present day. Some of the artists CH mentioned that played in her grandparent's house as she was growing up: Duke Ellington; Billie Holliday; Ella Fitzgerald; Glenn Miller; Benny Goodman; Frank Sinatra; Dean Martin; Nat King Cole. Additionally, her step-father was a fan of Brazilian jazz. The Los Angeles radio station CH also grew up listening to was 94.7 The Wave (now known as The Soul of Southern California). Yasushi Nakamura loves his music. And he truly loves laying down the groove lines behind a hot band like he does for almost a dozen bands. However, being one of today's first-call bassists means frequent and long show tours that can take him away from his family of two-children and spouse for weeks, even months at a time. It has resulted in an impressive list and number of recordings made on both electric and acoustic or double bass. Pianist and longtime friend, Emmet Cohen, says that Yasushi “…is known in the music community for playing in over a dozen bands and is hardly ever seen reading music.” The reason, says Yasushi, is he has a photographic memory for the music. He takes one look at it and the rest he recalls. This allows him to internalize the music, a practice he highly recommends to young bassists today. Yasushi is a pretty shy guy on and off the bandstand. Watch a video of him and you'll notice he kicks it like the good bassist he is but rarely engages in any dialogue. He says he likes to lay back, be the guy behind the sound. You wouldn't know it, though, when it's time for him to step out. Sometimes a big grin will shine, but Yasushi is mostly focused on delivering a ballad or driving his bass through the high pace sounds left behind by the pianist or the horns. His discography is already enormous. Yasushi has performed in and out of the studio with many noted jazz musicians including Cecile McLorin Salvant, Emmet Cohen, Christian Sands, Amina Figarova, Shamie Royston, Jon Irabagon, Rudy Royston, Vincent Herring, and Ulysses Owners Jr. I saw Yasushi at the 2023 Monterey Jazz Festival touring concert at Denison University near Columbus, Ohio. In that show he was part of an all-star billing with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Lakecia Benjamin, and good friends and long-time collaborators, Christian Sands and Clarence Penn. Yasushi Nakamura is sharing two compositions with the podcast so thanks to him for that. They are:“Yasugaloo”-A Lifetime Treasure, Yasushi Nakamura-bass, Lawrence Fields-piano, Clarence Penn-drums; 9/29/2016 (Atelier Sawano)-7:03“Awesome Beef”-Hometown, Yasushi Nakamura-bass, Lawrence Fields-piano, Clarence Penn-drums, Bigyuki-Synths; 11/10/2017 (Atelier Sawano)-3:56 This episode is being released during Jazz Appreciation Month. What better person and humbler guy than Yasushi Nakamura to kick off this year's celebration of jazz.  And thank you for listening to Strictly Jazz Sounds. The NFL Draft has come and gone with some big news and some really big questions for some teams. The Jacksonville Jaguars, I personally thought made a big franchise changing move by not taking the best player, for the biggest project. The Lions, Jets, Ravens, and Giants were big winners and earned +A grade. C. Vivian Stringer retired, one of the greatest coaches of all times. "Talking All That Jazz" concluded to wrap up Jazz Appreciation Month of April, and more. Subscribe to the podcast and please give us a 5star rating. To celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month, I'm honored to welcome Kevin Eubanks, one of the most accomplished jazz musicians of his or any generation.   As a prolific guitarist and composer, Kevin is frequently recognized for his role as former Music Director of The Tonight Show band, appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for 18 years.   Yet it's what led up to this iconic role that is most intriguing.   Today, Kevin shares about growing up with a strong musical influence, what it was like to hitchhike to gigs around Philadelphia at 13 years old and how he was able to overcome his shyness.   And I can't forget to mention…Kevin shares a fantastic impersonation of Jay Leno that you don't want to miss.   Learn more about this episode at JohnOLearyInspires.com/podcast.

No fooling, in the U.S. April 1st denotes the start of Jazz Appreciation Month (aka "JAM"), where the art form born out of Congo Square in New Orleans became a unique and true African American and American musical expression that continues to evolve across the decades and centuries.Started by the Smithsonian Museum of American History in 2001, "JAM is intended to stimulate and encourage people of all ages to participate in jazz - to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more."To learn more about the history of jazz, read Jazz: A History of America's Music, watch the 10-part documentary miniseries Jazz on PBS, read Downbeat Magazine's The Great Jazz Interviews – A 75 Year Anthology, check out jazzinamerica.org's timeline and the 1987 album from Smithsonian Folkways The History of Jazz by Mary Lou Williams. There's also Herbie Hancock's MasterClass in Jazz online.https://americanhistory.si.edu/smithsonian-jazz/education/what-jazzhttps://www.masterclass.com/articles/what-is-jazz#want-to-learn-more-about-musichttps://www.nps.gov/jazz/learn/historyculture/history_early.htmhttps://www.jazzinamerica.org/jazzresources/timelinehttps://youtu.be/BMgKXbtQwoo (“What is Jazz” video Smithsonian)

April is Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30 is UNESCO's International Jazz Day. So designated to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people around the world, International Jazz Day is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2021. Not only is jazz an art form that comes from the United States, it was born in New Orleans, the Crescent City. In recognition of the important history of this uniquely American musical art form, both nationally and internationally, Congress authorized the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park in 1994. Congress created the park to protect a significant American cultural treasure... jazz. But jazz was embraced by the world and is an international treasure. Some of the greatest jazz artists of all time toured the world on behalf of the U.S. government, helping to spread the love of jazz far and wide. These “Jazz Ambassadors” included Louis Armstrong and an excerpt of his interview with a Czech journalist on Radio Free Europe while touring in then-Czechoslovakia is featured in the episode. For the definitive story on the history and impact of the Jazz Ambassadors, check out https://www.pbs.org/wnet/jazz-ambassadors/. And while the Jazz Ambassadors program no longer exists, the State Department continues to do music diplomacy today, including jazz, but also featuring a wide range of genres from hip hop to zydeco. With education being the focus of the national park, we also include excerpts of two musical programs we attended, the first an introductory talk by a park ranger and the second a concert with jazz pianist Kyle Roussel. The park is currently closed due to the pandemic but virtual musical programs are still available. As always, visit the park's website to obtain the most current information, including regarding closures and altered hours. Schaap has won six Grammy Awards for his liner notes, audio engineering, and production. He's taught jazz at Columbia University, Princeton University, and Rutgers University, and currently teaches in the graduate school at Juilliard. In addition, he became curator at Jazz at Lincoln Center where he created Swing University--an educational program where he teaches classes that cultivate listening and a deeper appreciation for jazz.  From the mid-1970s until 1992, he booked musicians for Jazz at the West End a Manhattan club with nightly shows seven days a week. Phil Schaap literally grew up surrounded by jazz and in the company of extraordinary musicians who were close family friends—and he has funny, lovely, and appreciative stories about all of them.  This podcast is a great way to kick off Jazz Appreciation Month—it's harder to find anyone who appreciates the music more than 2021 NEA Jazz Master Phil Schaap.
