“When you are a dominant empire like the US, economically, militarily, geopolitically, and you make bets that are exclusively based on power rather than technology, innovation, research and development, education, a growing prosperous middle class, history tells us that you will eventually fail. And that's the ugly reality.” Like most media nowadays, we seek to make sense of the confusing, contradictory, and often absurd Trump policies. So of course we turn to our best friend and most frequent guest, economist Fadhel Kaboub.Fadhel suggests that Trump has two missions: reinforcing the US imperialist-dominant position that is currently under threat, and reinforcing his legacy, the MAGA movement, and the supremacy of the Republican Party for years to come. Ironically there are even two Elon Musks in the White House: “There's Elon Musk, Twitter, and there's Elon Musk, Tesla, and the other tech stuff. The interest that the Trump administration is going to serve is not Tesla. It's going to be the Facebooks, the cloud technologists ... the techno-feudalists who run the world today. “The importance of the techno-feudalists is that they don't actually manufacture things, they don't produce things. They control the cloud, they control the mind, they control your feelings, your choices... not just consumer choices, but political social worldviews are controlled and manipulated by social media and by the big data centers that collect and analyze and feed you choices and filter the news and filter information for you.” In their discussion, Fadhel points out the absurdity of thinking tariffs will “bring back jobs” to the US. He also explains that companies like Apple aren't manufacturing in China for cheap labor, but because China has the high-skilled workers. Instead of investing in education in the US, Trump boasts of making cuts.Fadhel explains that Trump's negotiation strategy relies on creating chaos and confusion. In comparison, China's path is starkly different, including creation of the digital yuan as an international payment system to bypass SWIFT and the dollar.Fadhel and Steve remind us that both US political parties are guilty of perpetuating the false narrative of fiscal constraints. As always, listeners are challenged to question the prevailing mainstream rhetoric and look for the deeper motivations behind it.Fadhel Kaboub is an associate professor of economics at Denison University (presently on leave) and the president of the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity. He's the author of Global South Perspectives on Substack. Find his work at globalsouthperspectives.substack.com @FadhelKaboub on Twitter

Amazing is all I can say about this conversation! Prepare to put you nerd hats on for this first conversation with Morley Robbins, where we debunk the idea that iron deficiency and anemia are a real concern. In this podcast episode Morley goes into great detail on how we can understand; where the current idea of iron deficiency and anemia came from. how current thinking around iron is misleading and potentially dangerous. the part oxygen plays in iron metabolism and energy production. how copper is essential for curing "anemia" and fatigue. how inflammation is a HUGE factor in both iron overload and low iron. how chlorophyll and dark chocolate can be great for improving low copper. And soooooo much more. We hope you enjoy this episode and maybe listen to it a few times to fully absorb all the awesome information therein. ;) And watch out for my next conversation with Morley where we will look closer at testing and ranges, along with one or two case studies from my own clients. *If you have any questions for Morley for our next conversation, please send them to; support@chemainesmodelhealth.com Morley Robbins is the creator and founder of The Root Cause Protocol and the Magnesium Advocacy Group. #MorleyRobbins #Magnesium #Health #Wellness #Education Today's show is a different kind of topic, one that's not normally covered on this show. However I am deeply grateful for our guest coming on to teach us something that will not only improve our health, but it will help us become independent of the modern medical money syphoning death trap. Today's show is all about Magnesium. Magnesium is important for your body's day-to-day functions and overall quality of health. Your body relies on magnesium for over 300 biochemical processes in the body. It is also one the most abundant minerals on earth. You may be familiar with the stress-reducing and pain-relieving characteristics of magnesium sulfate (aka Epsom salt). But did you know, Magnesium is also recommended as a medication to combat migraines? Research shows that about half of the U.S. population doesn't get enough of this body-boosting nutrient and this is having a devastating result. Until I spoke with this guest, I was completely ignorant of just how important Magnesium is and how dangerous it is to go without. Morley Robbins is the creator and founder of The Root Cause Protocol and the Magnesium Advocacy Group. Morley received his BA in Biology from Denison University in Ohio and holds an MBA from George Washington University in healthcare administration. Morley has trained in wellness coaching, nutritional counselling, and functional diagnostic nutrition. His work has gained him the nickname Magnesium Man due to his extensive research into and understanding of magnesium's role in the body. Morley's research saw him deciphering the intricate relationship between magnesium, iron, copper, and calcium as a way to free ourselves from illness and disease. True creative spirits at heart, twin brothers Joshua and Jared Thompson belong to a musical family and began playing piano at a young age. Jared later picked up the saxophone as his chosen specialty, and both have become revered within their home city of Indianapolis and around the US. Known onstage as "Sock Joplin," Joshua Thompson is a pianist, music sociologist, and lecturer recognized nationally for his expertise in classical composers of African descent. A recipient of numerous awards and national fellowships, Thompson has completed residencies at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, University of Puget Sound, University of Louisville, Seaside, FL, University of Nebraska Omaha, and currently serves as the Creative Partner in Residence with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Saxophonist, composer, and arranger Jared Thompson is a Denison University alumnus who formed the jazz quintet Premium Blend in 2007. Premium Blend appears in two national award-winning documentaries, "Go Get Your Horn" and "Chatterbox: A Love Letter." In 2019, the band was awarded a commission by the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation and directed. Its members produced the mini-documentary "38th & Postmodernism," which addressed the myriad social tensions at the forefront of America's mind throughout 2020. "Colonized people have the right to resist." Economist and friend of the podcast Fadhel Kaboub talks with Steve about the effects of global hegemony and the ongoing attempts to shift the balance of power. They look at BRICS, though it's perhaps too soon to predict its ultimate outcome and influence. Fadhel argues that a true multipolar world cannot emerge without placing the Global South at the center of economic decision-making, challenging the existing economic domination by the US and other nations. The history of colonial exploitation continues to affect the resource-rich region.Fadhel also addresses the ways in which Israel is carrying out the US agenda in Gaza. He points out that the world's reaction is being influenced by the ready availability of direct information via social media. "The world didn't start on October 7th. There was a world before that. And there is a colonial project that was being built in Gaza and Palestine. "Every colonial case we've seen in Africa and the rest of the Global South created resistance movements and resistance. Some people resist in the streets, some people resist with little pebbles and stones, some people resist with weapons. Some people resist with their voice, some people resist with their pen. But it's resistance. And it's a legitimate right to resist. "It's beginning to click for a lot of people that colonized people have the right to resist." Fadhel Kaboub is an associate professor of economics at Denison University (presently on leave) and the president of the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity. Braver Angels is addressing a huge threat that could disrupt the future of our democratic republic: The rigid, often bitter, divisions between reds and blues. While nearly four in ten voters identify as "independent", more than nine in ten Americans fall into one of two broad categories. They identify as either conservative or liberal leaning and tend to vote for either Republicans or Democrats."If this country breaks apart, if violence increases to the point where we are killing each other, it will be because of those two groups and the extreme leaders of those two groups," says Braver Angels co-founder and President David Blankenhorn. "That's the division we are looking at. That's the bridge we want to build. That's what's threatening the country."This episode is part two of our "How Do We Fix It?" podcast interview with David. We discuss Braver Angels bridge building by young people. Our conversation also explores America's political divisions and the Braver Angels approach to reforming and rebuilding American political discourse one conversation, one debate, one workshop at a time. In part one— our previous episode— we began by discussing the movement's origin story. Before co-founding Braver Angels, David Blankenhorn led the Institute for American Values, a think tank on civil society. I met Daniel Meyer while performing with the Stewart Copeland Orchestra in Erie, PA. From the very first song, his energy gave me chills. To watch a conductor use every morsel of his body into a new body of work, is quite jaw-dropping. As soon as I asked Daniel to be a guest on my podcast, he immediately said yes. And what's crazy? I've always wanted to know how a conductor secures such a niché profession.   As Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic, Artistic Director of the Westmoreland Symphony and Cleveland's BlueWater Chamber Orchestra, Daniel Meyer has reinvigorated orchestras with his innovative programs, engaging presence and keen musical intellect.  Named Music Director of the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, Meyer took the helm of the historic summer music festival in July 2019.    A native of Cleveland, Meyer studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, and is a graduate of Denison University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He composed and conducted works for ensembles at both schools, including a Stabat Mater for soprano, chorus and orchestra. At Boston University, Meyer received the Orchestral Conducting Honors Award and was awarded the prestigious Aspen Conducting Prize from David Zinman. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tamartalks/support

Yasushi Nakamura loves his music. And he truly loves laying down the groove lines behind a hot band like he does for almost a dozen bands. However, being one of today's first-call bassists means frequent and long show tours that can take him away from his family of two-children and spouse for weeks, even months at a time. It has resulted in an impressive list and number of recordings made on both electric and acoustic or double bass. Pianist and longtime friend, Emmet Cohen, says that Yasushi “…is known in the music community for playing in over a dozen bands and is hardly ever seen reading music.” The reason, says Yasushi, is he has a photographic memory for the music. He takes one look at it and the rest he recalls. This allows him to internalize the music, a practice he highly recommends to young bassists today. Yasushi is a pretty shy guy on and off the bandstand. Watch a video of him and you'll notice he kicks it like the good bassist he is but rarely engages in any dialogue. He says he likes to lay back, be the guy behind the sound. You wouldn't know it, though, when it's time for him to step out. Sometimes a big grin will shine, but Yasushi is mostly focused on delivering a ballad or driving his bass through the high pace sounds left behind by the pianist or the horns. His discography is already enormous. Yasushi has performed in and out of the studio with many noted jazz musicians including Cecile McLorin Salvant, Emmet Cohen, Christian Sands, Amina Figarova, Shamie Royston, Jon Irabagon, Rudy Royston, Vincent Herring, and Ulysses Owners Jr. I saw Yasushi at the 2023 Monterey Jazz Festival touring concert at Denison University near Columbus, Ohio. In that show he was part of an all-star billing with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Lakecia Benjamin, and good friends and long-time collaborators, Christian Sands and Clarence Penn. Yasushi Nakamura is sharing two compositions with the podcast so thanks to him for that. They are:“Yasugaloo”-A Lifetime Treasure, Yasushi Nakamura-bass, Lawrence Fields-piano, Clarence Penn-drums; 9/29/2016 (Atelier Sawano)-7:03“Awesome Beef”-Hometown, Yasushi Nakamura-bass, Lawrence Fields-piano, Clarence Penn-drums, Bigyuki-Synths; 11/10/2017 (Atelier Sawano)-3:56 This episode is being released during Jazz Appreciation Month. What better person and humbler guy than Yasushi Nakamura to kick off this year's celebration of jazz.  And thank you for listening to Strictly Jazz Sounds. Followers of this podcast will recognize some of the themes we regularly focus on, including the debt trap facing countries of the global South, and the need for climate action and transformative economic development. Current plans under consideration are extractive and paternalistic, continuing the patterns of colonial exploitation. At the root of the external debt problem are three major structural issues: food deficits, energy deficits, and manufacturing deficits. Fadhel breaks down each of these problems, tracing the origins and suggesting how solutions will benefit not just Africa and the global South, but the international working class.“So, the type of thinking that we need to have today is one of two options. Do we work towards reforming this global economic architecture that was designed for these purposes? Or do we build a parallel, alternative economic architecture from the ground up? I'm of the opinion that the countries that dominate the current economic architecture will fight to death to keep their supremacy.”Steve and Fadhel also discuss MMT, degrowth, and the job guarantee. As a certified health coach with expertise in Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA), Morley has performed thousands of RCP one-on-one consultations, helping people feel better by getting to the root cause of their symptoms.  In this episode, Morley talks about becoming obsessed with copper in the mitochondria. He dives into what you need to know about the mitochondria and how to ensure you're getting excellent mitochondria function. Then, Morley digs deep into copper; he explains precisely why you need more copper in your diet, and the reason copper is critical for anyone following a ketogenic lifestyle. Tune in as we chat about the problem with ascorbic acid and which three things will improve your copper levels.  Get Keto Flex on Audible for Free (New Customers Only): https://adbl.co/36d6A24 Get Keto Flex on Audible here for current customers: https://adbl.co/3699lBm / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. When the general is not around, foot soldiers go crazy. This is exactly what happens inside our bodies.  [06:10] What You Need To Know About Mitochondria In The Human Body We've been trained to think of the mitochondria as an energy furnace. People think that the mitochondria just put out energy.  There are 40 quadrillion mitochondria in our body. The average cell has about 500 mitochondria. The average liver cell has 2,000, kidney cells have 4,000, heart cells have 10,000, and a mature egg in a woman's body has 600,000 mitochondria.  The cells that are primarily relied upon for survival have the most mitochondria.  Morley likes to say, “ignore the enemies; ignite the energy.”  Morley has learned that if you don't have copper in your diet and don't have retinol to make copper bioavailable, you're not getting excellent mitochondria function. If mitochondria cannot produce energy, they cannot recycle iron.  [21:30] Ferritin In The Body and The Reason You Need Copper To Stay Healthy  There are four different forms of ferritin in the body.  There are two principal flavors: heavy chain and light chain. Whenever you see the phrase heavy chain, it means copper is involved.  The light chain is expressed most extensively in the liver. The heavy chain is expressed chiefly in the heart.  There is also serum ferritin. Many people believe that ferritin in the blood accurately reflects what's happening inside cells. However, when you get serum ferritin high, you toxify the liver.   When you suppress copper in an animal's diet, iron will rip up in the liver. [32:20] We Need To Make 2.5 Million Red Blood Cells Every Single Second  70% of the iron in the body is in hemoglobin. There's a recycling system for iron called the reticular endothelial system.  Every second of every day, we need to make 2.5 million red blood cells. In 24 hours, we make 2 trillion red blood cells. It only takes 24 milligrams of iron to support that level of production.  [39:50] The Reason You Need More Cooper on A Ketogenic Diet  if you ferment sugar without oxygen, you get two units of energy.  If you oxidize the sugar, you're going to get around 34. If you oxidize fat, you'll get 140 units of energy.  90% of the energy comes out of the mitochondria. It does not take a lot of copper to run our body; copper creates energy.  If you're going to have a keto diet, you better have a healthy supply of copper. The metabolism of fats is copper-dependent.  You cannot digest copper in your diet if you don't have fat in your diet.  [48:10] Ascorbic Acid Is Destroying The Bioavailability of Copper  Ascorbic acid is not the whole food vitamin C complex. Ascorbic acid is a prooxidant, whereas vitamin C molecule complex is an antioxidant.  Ascorbic acid blocks the absorption of copper.  You need to know that ascorbic acid, vitamin D, and zinc destroy the bioavailability of copper.  When you destroy the bioavailability of copper, iron rises in the tissue.  [57:40] How You Can Get More Copper Into Your Body Through Diet  We need to lower the iron footprint in our bodies and increase the copper footprint. You need a mineral base in your water and in your foods.  Also, eat more real food that is organically grown. Plus, more fat will be essential.  Get more cooper from bee pollen, real vitamin C, and grass-fed beef liver.  There is much more beta carotene in the grass than in oranges and carrots.  Also, to deal with stress, you need to have more magnesium in your diet.
