This week on the SAF Podcast,  SAF Investor Editor Fayaz Hussain has a conversation with Sven Rieve, Airbp's sustainability advisor. Rieve dives deep into Airbp's strategy for conquering the skies with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).We explore their current production footprint, the diverse feedstocks used, and the markets they're targeting. The discussion takes off with Airbp's commitment to increasing SAF production capacity in key regions like Europe, the UK, and the US. Rieve sheds light on Airbp's preference for co-processing as a production method and explains why they're keeping a watchful eye on emerging pathways for future investment. The conversation then steers towards regulations. Rieve offers Airbp's perspective on the Renewable Energy Directive and the crucial role of feedstocks within the European regulatory framework. He proposes a compelling solution – a focus on cultivating cover crops – to address Europe's growing need for SAF feedstocks. We wrap up by exploring the contrasting regulatory landscapes across the UK, US, and Europe. Rieve analyzes how these differences will shape the future trajectory of SAF supply and demand, offering valuable insights for industry stakeholders. If you enjoyed this episode, catch our recent discussion with Jonathan Yeo, FlyORO about blending SAF and the supply chain challenges: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2202964/15360818Host: Fayaz Hussain, SAF InvestorProducer: Oscar Henderson, SAF Investor

This week on The SAF Podcast, Jonathan Yeo, CEO, FlyORO joins Oscar to discuss the operational and supply chain logistic challenges that SAF presents. One of SAF's many benefits is its drop in nature, and ability to work within existing infrastructure. However, currently it still needs to be blended with kerosene. This is not as simple as someone mixing the two together with a large whisk. As Jonathan explains, the precision required to blend SAF and Kerosene to meet certification standards is significant and the requirement to blend according to market demand requires flexibility not currently found in airport infrastructure. Jonathan explains that their Alphalite modular system designed to optimise blend efficiencies, making SAF more accessible for both business and commercial aviation. Almost akin to a Nespresso coffee machine (other brands are available), blending the perfect amount of water and coffee. We also look at how a modular solution can deal with the inevitable ramp up in SAF production to service the expected growth in demand. We then dive into FlyORO's finances and discuss the pre-Series A funding they received earlier this year and plans for further rounds in early 2025. Jonathan also highlights why they are targeting strategic investors and the benefits they bring. The episode ends with their expansion plans in Australia and the US and why they are two markets that are particularly attractive and the role of Book and Claim in helping scale SAF whilst there is a continued paucity of physical molecules. If you enjoyed this episode, check out our most recent episode with Tom Berg, SkyNRG where we discuss their recent SAF Market Outlook report: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2202964/15275823Host and Producer: Oscar Henderson, SAF Investor

Episode 145In the grand halls of Buckingham Palace, the unveiling of King Charles's latest royal portrait was nothing short of a spectacle. The room buzzed with anticipation, aristocrats and art critics alike whispering in hushed tones. As the velvet curtain was drawn back, revealing the artwork, gasps echoed through the room. There, emerging from what looked suspiciously like a bath of blood, was King Charles himself, with only his hands and face visible above the crimson tide. The artist, Jonathan Yeo, stood beside his creation, beads of sweat dotting his forehead. His hands shook slightly as he attempted to explain his inspiration. He nervously explained his attempt to capture the essence of His Majesty's reign and the deep, historical roots of the monarchy. One couldn't help but wonder if Yeo had tapped into the blood of Britain's ancient dalliance with empires long past. Was it the essence of 250 years of conquest and colonialism that stained the canvas so vividly? Or perhaps it was just the result of a particularly overzealous session with a bottle of Bordeaux.Spectators marveled, some with morbid fascination, others with barely concealed horror. Was this a portrait or a scene from a vampire novel? It looked like he was about to rise from the depths and start a new reign of terror. As the audience continued to take in the ominous scene, one question hung in the air: Was King Charles sending a message to the world, "Don't fuck with me?" With a portrait that seemed more like a dire warning than a royal tribute, it was hard not to imagine the king himself giving a sly, blood-tinged grin and nodding ever so slightly.Despite Yeo's evident nervousness, the portrait seemed to encapsulate an eerie truth: the monarchy, drenched in the blood-red history of its conquests, still holds a spectral power. As King Charles's eyes seemed to follow each guest around the room, a shiver ran down their spines. Was this art, or an omen? One thing was clear: Yeo's masterpiece would be remembered, though perhaps not for the reasons he intended.Keep on downloading people.Thank you all again.Darren.Music: The Rolling Stones  - Paint it BlackNeil Young - The PainterSupport the Show.Insta@justpassingthroughpodcastContact:justpassingthroughpodcast@gmail.comArtwork @digitalnomadicart on Insta

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:45 We will be off next week due to Memorial Day. I finished watching From on MGM+ and also watched Blown Away on Netflix. Chandra remembers the show Flea Market Flip with Ali Wentworth on HGTV. The documentary she remembers is called Craft in America and was on PBS. Royals: Minutes 4:45 to 25:30 Last week, as we were recording, the news had just come out that the Sussexes were going to be in Nigeria the next day. There were so many stories, pictures and videos of their visit, but it was mostly limited to Getty and social media. Their visit was announced late, and we think that was to keep British journalists from traveling to Nigeria to cover their tour. It was hard to source stories and photos, but we loved that they weren't being held up by protocol. They gave a lot of personal time to the causes and people they visited. Meghan was declared a princess of Nigeria by four kings. That was such a moving gesture and you could tell Meghan was touched. Nigeria pulled out all the stops for the Sussexes. People love the Sussexes because they are so genuine. During their tour they were getting invitations from other countries to visit. I play a segment of Meghan's speech at the Women in Leadership panel in Nigeria.  There was a lot of racism and toxicity in the British press around that visit. Nigerian Twitter united to call it out. It seemed like Buckingham Palace gave the press the go ahead to attack the Sussexes. We've also heard that Charles is trying to block Harry and Meghan from visiting more commonwealth countries, similar to how Charles tried to block the Bidens from being hospitable toward them. We mentioned in our last episode that Charles had scheduled a handover event to give William the title of colonel in chief of the Army Air Corps, which was Prince Harry's regiment when he served two tours in Afghanistan. That little event happened, William cosplayed as Harry, dressed like him and took a ride in an Apache helicopter. The optics were terrible, because William wants to be Harry and falls short in every way. The Sussexes are covering this week's People and it's such a contrast to last week's weird cover story that centered how William was coping with his wife's illness. There are direct quotes from Harry and Meghan saying how well they're doing and that they're going to plan more visits. I play a clip from Zoom with Karen, Zakia and Ameerah, where we talked about the Nigerian tour. Like Karen mentioned on Zoom, the Sussexes got a lot of gifts. Of course there are calls for them to give them back. The British press is trying to make it sound like they got extravagant gifts. Chandra remembers when Camilla was gifted diamonds by the Saudis. Archewell was briefly “delinquent” with their registration in the state of California, but that was a simple mixup by the Attorney General's office which lost a check. The check was sent by certified mail and was delivered. Governor Newsom spoke out on their behalf. This week we also saw more of William's alleged one time mistress, Rose Hanbury. She was at the Badminton Horse Trials where she was photographed with Camilla. Rose and her husband, David Rocksavage, were also at an OBE service where their son was the page for Charles and Camilla.  Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Sunday on the post about Rose Hanbury's reemergence. My comments of the week are from Harla A Brazen Hussy and StellainNH on the post about King Charles' new portrait by Jonathan Yeo. Thanks for listening bitches!

On a basic level, you're trying to communicate something about the essence of who someone is. You're trying to figure out who they are, not necessarily who they present themselves as. The two things can quite often be different. And then, you're trying to find ways of showing that through their face, their posture, or any other context. My instinct is always to try to reduce down to the essential elements. We read faces. It's obviously very, very deep in our DNA, really our survival instinct. We are programmed to read faces in a very fine-tuned way.Painting is a two-dimensional thing. You're basically taking real, three-dimensional things and making them into fake, two-dimensional ones. When you get into the 3D space, some of those distinctions aren't there anymore. I remember when I showed David Hockney the VR project I'd been working on a few years ago, and he put his finger on this quite well. Most art is about perspective. "What are you trying to do with the portrait? Certainly, for what he is interested in. As soon as you see something in 3D, whether it's a physical sculpture or a virtual object, that's not there anymore because you're in the space with whatever's being shown, so you're in a very different place."Jonathan Yeo is one of the world's leading figurative artists and portrait painters. We were talking about doing a portrait. Fast forward a few years, and we are all taking photos every day and learning really fast how to compose images and read images and why they've been cropped in a certain way. All these things, which were probably the preserve of artists and art historians in the past, are suddenly things that kids are thinking about because it's the way they communicate with each other.
