Whether you're just starting or you're a seasoned coach, I bet you already know that while having a calendar full of clients sounds pretty amazing, it can also get overwhelming. Plus, back to back client calls isn't the best to get to your next income goal and it certainly isn't a way to scale your business! If you're coaching 40 hours a week, your income will hit a plateau. There are only so many coaching calls you can do in a week! And when will you have time for admin, marketing, sales & retention? When will you have time to enjoy your life? My guest today knows exactly how a crammed full coaching calendar can impact your business and lifestyle. Lindsay Maloney was triple-booked with coaching clients for over three years. And while she loved what she did, it felt like someone kidnapped her calendar and booked it completely full with one-hour sessions without asking for her permission! Her calendar was full of client calls, group coaching calls, podcast interviews, you name it, and Lindsay really wanted more freedom. No one wants to leave corporate to start their own business and then be chained to Zoom all day, we'd much prefer to choose a path towards a balanced and free coaching biz. But what does that really look like? Would you like to see fewer calls on your calendar, AND more sales coming in without you having to “be there” for it? You can get your time back and still bring in the same income (and a whole lot more) without having to go on calls all of the time, and Lindsay's going to walk us through how to do it! Listen in as Lindsay and I chat about the #1 thing to focus on when trying to reach 5 hour work week, time management hacks for more productivity, where to start with building out levels of offers & income, and how to build a sustainable & freedom-based coaching business that is not dependent on launching all the time! People who consider themselves course collectors and have that stack of books on their nightstand run into this problem where life happens. They have the best of intentions to learn and grow and then everything else just takes over. I'm going to give you the four steps you need to get this party started so you can use all this beautiful knowledge that you have access to and make progress towards your goals. 1: Remove morning obstacles. I'm talking about those mental obstacles. In the morning our brain is flush with decision-making hormones that get used up during the day. Don't waste that morning time on anything that isn't what you feel is the most important. The first habit you can implement, and this can be truly life-changing, is to take care of your mornings the night before. For example, close every tab on your computer except the one you want to tackle in the morning and have that website open. 2: Write it down. This list is going to be a comprehensive collection of everything you know you could be progressing and implementing now. It's time to get it out of your head so you can start dealing with it, and how you capture it is completely up to you. You might use a spreadsheet, Google doc, a journal, a vision board…whatever works for you. You can now pick the top 3 items you want to work on, and the rest, whether it's 5 or 50, won't go anywhere. You're not going to forget about them. “Sarah, I love them all, I can't pick just one,” you might say. I hear you, but loving all of them and not picking any of them is why you haven't done any. This is about actual progress and, like I said, these are on a list you're not going to not do them, you're just going to do them NEXT. 3: Find the time. You need 30 to 60 minutes per day to start to move these items forward. If you want to just do one thing at a time, I'm cool with that. If you want to work on the others all at once, what you can do is the course three times a week and the book two times a week and sprinkle in the project. (You can see how this can get complicated if these are too similar.) 4: Deal with high-functioning codependence. Don't let others interrupt your growth with their priorities. Ask if you're so scared that if you say you'll get back to them in 20 minutes, they're going to leave you? My client will leave me, my family will leave me, no one will love me. People are going to think I'm a bad person. This is what we're talking about. There is a space between the stimulus and the response where you have all the power. There is a moment where you get to decide. “I have something started right now. I'll get back to you this afternoon.” The end. Notice I didn't ask for permission. Watch your world shift, and it's a shift internally. You have invested to grow and you've made decisions to make yourself a better person or to create projects and put your creativity out there into the world. And we don't ever want to let something come in the way of your full self-expression. The game is on! Have fun and enjoy. Are you curious about how to successfully balance your personal and professional life? In this episode, Sarah interviews Lindsay, a balance and freedom business coach. They discuss productivity tips and Lindsay's journey in coaching and balancing her business with her personal life. It is tough to maintain balance in life. From competing priorities in our work and personal lives, it is easy for things to pile up. Lindsay shares an important tip on listening to yourself and your needs. Everyone's life is different. So one person's needs are not going to be another person's needs. Balance is about productivity, peace and knowing when to prioritize each. 1 | Number One Key to Balance Balancing your personal and professional life includes managing your time well. It is best to be strict with your day, where you are giving enough time to your job and your family. If you are a business owner, you need to ensure you are giving enough of yourself to your clients so they don't feel neglected. Discipline is key in keeping productive because it is easy to become overwhelmed and overworked. 2 | Tips to Staying Focused Lindsay suggests a few tips to keeping a good balance and staying focused. One tip is to have a list to focus on. Choose a few things to focus on throughout the day or link days of the week with specific topics. For example, Lindsay uses Mondays to focus on the admin side of her business, where she works on metrics and money. Tuesdays are all about social media. With this, it allows you to work on a few things at a time and at the end of the day, you have accomplished something. 3 | Beware of Comparison It is so easy to fall victim to comparison, especially in a social media age. When you have a business, it is so important to sit down and think about how you want to run it and what your goals are. Everyone's goals may be different and the reason someone has a business might differ from another. Listen to your intuition and do what works for you! Lindsay also speaks to how wasting time is a business killer. Don't spend time focusing on things that can be done later on. If it doesn't add value to you at that moment or needs to be done within the next couple of days, give yourself more time back and leave that task to when it needs to be complete. Another time waster is fear of rejection. You will not accomplish anything if fear of rejection is keeping you stagnant. Get out there and make mistakes because that will lead you to success down the road. ➡️ Take a listen! Episode Highlights: 3:20 The importance of listening to oneself 9:38 Lindsay's disciplined approach to managing her time 11:45 Advice on staying focused for a period of time 26:05 Tips for reconnecting with intuition 30:06 Common time wasters Connect with Lindsay: Website Instagram Private Facebook Group Podcast Confident Coach Club Links Mentioned: The Peace and Productivity Planner Podcast Free
Today we have Lindsay Maloney on the show! We're talking about how to build a 6 figure business in 5 hours a week. Now, as a total over-worker … I have absolutely been a skeptic of this concept. But I love how Lindsay breaks it down. We'll talk about: How to come up with your daily tasks Any “prerequisites” you need to make this happen Why so many coaches assume this impossible How long does it take to get to this point How do you know what your top priorities are And more! Plus we get clear on Lindsay's business and what she has set up behind the scenes to make this happen. My favorite part is every assumption I made about what you need and don't need to make this happen is essentially false!I just can't get my own stories out of my head about how much you can get done in a day

Earlier this month, we made a MASSIVE decision over here at Team Sarah. It was so hard, but we have completed the Game on Girlfriend membership. I created it because I wanted women to have a monthly check-in to get tips, ideas, or a workshop and stay in the conversation without necessarily having to have a one-on-one coach. It was a light in my heart that created community. If this is not the entrepreneur conundrum, I don't know what is! Do you keep this thing going? Do you stop? Do you keep pushing through? Is this offer still good for my business? The first step is to check in with your body. We know our bodies have all the answers regardless of what the outside world wants us to do. (If you want to dive into that deeper with me, please check out April's Coffee With Coach: https://youtube.com/live/0JAVqvBZk2s) First of all, sit still and put your hands on your stomach. Move it up a little bit and feel where your ribs part. That's actually our shame center. When we're feeling crappy about something, it sits there. It's a really interesting phenomenon. Just below that is your gut; you can feel it in your guts. So, when the time comes and you're thinking about what to do, rest your hand there and ask yourself: Is it time for me to release this or is it time to keep going? And just see what your body says. In April's Coffee With Coach, I talk about what we've learned from animals because they have emotions in their body. Emotions rule the body; thoughts rule the head. We try to make the head rule the body, but it doesn't work that way. That's why we feel yucky when we're going against our gut; it doesn't feel good. It makes emotions the deepest part of your knowing. That's why we're checking in with our bodies first. The other thing you can do that's really powerful is to watch how your body physically responds when you ask yourself what you should do. Usually, if you find yourself rocking back, it's a no. Lean forward, keep going. The next step is the common-sense aspect of our business – we've got to know the numbers. One of the things we did inside our business was to draw up a revenue map. If you're asking, “What does the business need me to do?” You need to know the numbers. Which parts of your business are flourishing, and which parts aren't doing so well? If you were to stop focusing on what isn't working, what could you do instead? That was my decision here. The Game on Girlfriend membership was great. The Abundance Academy, the Sales Mastermind, and one-on-one coaching were pulling at me so hard – like Sarah Walton, this is what you are HERE TO DO. You love it so much; it's causing extraordinary results. It was time to double down on those. Sometimes that can be challenging for us as business owners – we think we should only stop if it sucks or it's totally draining all the money. Sometimes we need to release things because bigger things are being born, and they will need more attention. We want to clean out the clutter, and that includes business projects. Aligning your mission My mission is to put more money in the hands of more women. When it came time to decide whether or not to close membership, one factor was that while the membership was in line with that, it wasn't going fast enough. My work with the Abundance Academy, Sales Mastermind, and one-on-one coaching pushes my vision faster. These women are with me every single week in this conversation about their relationship to money, what's going on for them, and beliefs to release … it's much more in line with where I want to go. The results are so much faster, much deeper, and much longer lasting. When you know what your mission is it can be much easier to make these kinds of decisions. If you're not sure about your mission yet, I want you to do something called the rocking chair test. Picture yourself on your porch, aged 90, in your rocking chair. You love your life. What are you most proud of? What did you accomplish? Once you have that answer, you have your mission. Let's get to it! Everyone wants the quick fix, but a lot of people don't want to do the hard work. You might be comfortable getting the information and planning everything, but then you don't do anything because it takes you out of your comfort zone. If you are a self-identified course collector, meaning you see a new course, and you're ready to buy it … You wait for the cart … You can't buy it … You buy it! And then … you won't do anything with it. As an experienced business coach, Lindsay Maloney shares her thoughts on what's holding back so many women from stepping into their CEO shoes and scaling up. Lindsay helps coaches create six-figure businesses by building out their signature offers and designing dreamy client packages without the busy work. Lindsay says everyone wants that instant gratification, which gets in the way of their happiness. But if you want to build a business, it's going to take longer than that. And all those unsexy tasks that it takes to make that business are never shared on the Instagram highlight reels that everyone seems to watch. This delayed gratification can have business owners questioning every move they make. Part of the conversation becomes what you are going to have to do long-term to get this business off the ground and will you be happy doing that? Instead, many people will sit in the creative phase, where they are absorbing information but not taking any action. They're addicted to consuming, not moving forward. There is no program you can buy where you'll have the same results as the rest of the people in your cohort. “No one has ever decided to work with me because I took a course from so-and-so,” says Lindsay. “They work with me because of who I am online ... no one is ever going to want to join your world because you're a good student. They're going to join you because you're a great leader and you stepped out a little bit.” While it's not wrong to buy a course, Lindsay says you have to decide what you're going to DO. You have to keep learning. Identifying what is going to work for you and your business is key. We all have to take this moment and ask, “is this me?” You don't have to be afraid to change aspects of your business that aren't working for you. Remember, you can reassess and adjust and pivot. No matter what is happening, you have control over your business, and you can change it if things aren't making you happy. Starting a coaching business doesn't have to be challenging and overwhelming. Follow these tips for starting a coaching business that will attract your soulmate clients and not have to backtrack to get things right. If you want to start a coaching business and turn your idea into a revenue stream, follow these tips. About Lindsay Maloney Lindsay Maloney is a down-to-earth, no-fluff business coach who has a genuine approach to setting up and scaling a successful coaching business that stands out from all the rest. She doesn't believe that you have to do what everyone else does in order to be successful. Lindsay is passionate about keeping things simple. The mindset to have when you want to start a coaching business Robyn is a firm believer that God doesn't let things happen to us, he allows them to happen for us so that we can turn around and help others. For both Lindsay and Robyn this fact has been influential in their coaching businesses. Now teaching others everything they've learned along their journeys so that others can have success faster and easier. Robyn suggested that if you are struggling to discover what your niche is and who you can help, look at your journey and see how and who you can help by sharing your experiences with those who are coming along behind you. The planners Lindsay uses to keep herself organized and productive She has one that she made herself, she has The Commit 30 Planner, and she uses Asana as a digital tool, the Bando Planner, and Lara Casey's Power Sheets. Robyn emphasized how valuable this list is because one of the things that are key when starting out is being organized so that you can navigate from point A to point Z. You have an idea, now what? As a coach, you must recognize and embrace your journey and experiences to connect with your soulmate coaching clients One of the biggest mistakes people make coming into the industry is that they want to help everyone do everything. But you are not Wal-Mart and you cannot do everything for anyone. We are a tool in a toolbox, and a hammer can't do everything a wrench can do, etc. It is important to embrace what kind of tool you are and recognize how much of your journey you can take and consider it to then help others. Your journey and experiences are key to how and who you can help. It may seem boring to you, but it isn't to others and it's important. Embrace who you are and the experiences you have had that have led to the expertise you can now use to serve others. Knowing this helps you say or write the right words to connect with anyone listening to or watching you. The key is to be genuine online so that people will trust you. It is difficult to connect with and build trust with others online so it is important to be genuine to connect with your soulmate clients. Share your story and let people know who you are, even those pieces you think are boring about you. Robyn emphasized that your story is what is going to connect you to other people. Your journey and your values will connect you with others. It is very important to be aligned with your values, visions, and purpose, and all the things that have led you to where you are today so that you can connect with the people that are a good fit for you and your services. Dial into one thing that you want to focus on to serve your clients as you start a coaching business Lindsay used the example of her coaching business. She works with women who are just beginning. They don't have an email list or website, they just have an idea. This is where she comes in and teaches. Dial-in on who the person is that you want to work with. This doesn't mean you will limit opportunities. List building when you start a coaching business How will you bring people into your list? Robyn emphasized that we often don't know what they don't know. Email marketing is an example of this. It is important to be strategic with building your list. If you have a blog, what calls to action do you have. It is great to work with someone to help you identify all of the things that you need to be able to connect with your audience. Choose one platform for communicating with your audience. Is it a blog post, a podcast, etc. Choose a content medium and then a point to share. Know why people should listen to you. Make it clear for your audience so that they understand what you do for them, the problem you solve for them, and how you can solve it. You also need to know how you will be paid for the services you provide. And once people join your list, how will you take care of them and nurture them, and know that it was a good idea for them to sign up to follow you. Robyn emphasized the importance of having a website versus starting your business as a Facebook page. If you have a website, you can have a blog and the blog can become your primary source of content creation to then repurpose on other platforms, social media, email marketing, etc. She also emphasized the importance of SEO for people being able to find you. It is important to have search engine optimization for people to find you or you will be wasting your time blogging and creating a website. Tech and tools necessary to start a coaching business It is very important to know which tools are best for you. Lindsay and Robyn agreed that Click Funnels was not a fit for either of them. And you do not need to invest in shiny bells and whistles to start your coaching business. You have to use tools that feel right to you, not what other people are promoting because they are an affiliate. The tools you use need to serve you and your clients. Consider pricing, services, customer service, logistics, etc. Be sure you don't have paralysis when making a decision. You need the basics, a website, an email provider, and a content medium such as Instagram. Master a platform and set up a system and get ahead of it instead of trying to do all of the things at one time. The question about having a Facebook group is always popular. If you are asking if you should have a Facebook group, that means that you probably want to, so do it. It won't grow to thousands of followers overnight, but there are some clever ways to grow your group in a genuine way. Everything will come into place once clients come and when you are patient. Robyn emphasized that numbers don't mean anything if the people aren't connecting with you. You want genuine, truly interested people following you and engaging with you, not just large numbers of followers. Robyn recommends using your website as the tool for being discovered. Drive traffic to your website. Don't disregard small numbers, show up for who is there. Take care of and be grateful for the people in your world already. Organic Marketing is key when you start a coaching business Lindsay recommends Pinterest as an organic marketing tool. If you don't have organic marketing in place, your business is not going to grow. Pinterest feeds your email service provider and you don't have to rely on Instagram, which is not reliable. Learn more about Pinterest here. Create your coaching package before you start a coaching business What is your goal, and what price do you want to charge? Lindsay believes in having 3 coaching packages. Every time you increase your prices, you will get more clients. Lindsay's lowest-priced package is the least sold. People always choose the middle or highest ticket item. She also recommends having prices on your website. Do people need to have a certification before they start a coaching business? Lindsay believes you do not need a certification to be a business coach. As long as you are learning from others, mentors or coaches, you don't need a certification. This is where your journey and experiences come into play. But don't let certification hold you back from starting your coaching business. This week, while preparing a new freebie, I got to thinking about what goes through everyone's heads before they hire a coach. I recall how I made MY decision. It wasn't easy...until it WAS. The process that I describe in this episode is exactly what I went through before I hired my current business coach, Lindsay Maloney. Hiring a coach is a BIG investment if you are going to do it right...and just like any big investment, you've got to do your homework. I also think that there's a certain amount of “universal interference,” LOL, when you are going through this process. But I can honestly say that I discussed with myself all five of these considerations before finally taking the plunge. And boy, am I glad that I did! Why the word hustle doesn’t resonate with Lindsay? (02:32-08:36)Lindsay believes that you don’t have to work for 18 hours a day for you to succeed or grow your business. All you need to do is tap into your intuition and find out what feels right. How can you grow a business without a hustle? (09:05-11:29)You don’t need to work for many hours a day to make things happen. If you have great systems, you’ve learned from people who can teach you things that work, and you have a great support team, then you will be able to do things. How can you get out of hustle mentality? (12:02-14:13)Your value is not tied to a dollar sign. You are so much more than a dollar sign or an enrollment number in your program or clients. Stop putting yourself up to these things that you have no control over. If you have things on your to-do list that don’t match up with your vision, they need to go somewhere else.
