This week we revisit our interview with Lynette Louise who is board certified in Neurofeedback. We were very interested in the science of Neurofeedback but early on in the conversation we moved to a serious discussion about the use of the r-word and the reasons why Lynette uses it. This episode may feel a bit intense for many of you and we understand why, but we highly recommend listening all the way through to the end. Neurofeed back in the earlier stages could help plateau the disease. Louloua Smadi understands the desperation of loving someone with a life limiting cognitive disease. Her brother, Milo, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at two and a half years of age. Today, he is training to become a professional pastry chef. Everything began to change when the family met Dr. Lynette Louise. Her integrative approach using neurofeedback and play was the catalyst that helped Milo to thrive and grow. Louloua even used the therapy herself to overcome poor concentration and focus. Greatly impressed with her own improvements, she was inspired to become a practitioner herself. Her path from client to clinician illustrates the different approaches to healing using neurofeedback and highlights the gap between the research and clinical worlds. Neurofeedback, like dynamic learning, asks your brain to do things in a new way. This treatment can help stabilize our loved ones, it can help us prevent the onset of the disease, and can really help all of us age well. International brain change and behavior expert, Dr. Lynette Louise, also known as, "The Brain Broad”, first focused on brain health in an effort to help several of her children. Lynette scoured what little research there was at the time in order to understand the connection between food and brain function. “Your diet - what you eat and what you drink - strongly impacts your brain's ability to, with clarity, problem solve and think.” Being true to yourself and living a balanced life are just two of the many areas of focus for brain health. “You are feeding your brain from every one of your senses. Ask yourself, are you balanced?” In this episode, Lynette Louise discusses healthy eating for the brain and healthy behavior shifts for anyone seeking success in their life and work. Hey, y'all. I am Shay. This is the on air indie show. Welcome & enjoy. Episode 56. First, music history for June 22nd. In 1971 Joni Mitchell released her fourth studio album Blue. Music critics now regarded the album as one of the greatest albums of all time. In July 2017, NPR chose Blue as the greatest album of all time made by a woman. Today we welcome autism expert Dr. Lynette Louise. We also know her as “The Brain Broad”. She is an artist, an author, an academic, a brainiac and a healer. A fascinating guest whose work helps you to look at yourself and your world with renewed possibilities and understanding. We showcase her music on today's show. Enjoy the show! tracks "Crazy to Sane" 11:06 "Unfinished" 221:57 "Biofeedback" 31:26 "Brainiac" 46:10 https://youtu.be/--EMsnVTNVM In this video Lynette is both the BRAINIAC and the MANIAC! She seeks to help herself by screaming at the part that loves to soak and sit in the pain and guilt. The MANIAC prefers to stay unhappy by staying focused on her shame and refusing to look at the parts of her life that make her feel in love with being alive. The BRAINIAC (or positive thinking part of herself) keeps trying to be heard. BRAINIAC is from the CD 'CRAZY to SANE' and is available on Amazon as well as CD baby. Enjoy this music video about being of two minds until you're not. https://youtu.be/qmYtJTqmSDc The Brain Broad, Lynette Louise explains, "In my life many romances came and went as people ran from my autistic children. My thanks to Annie Potts, Scott Lawrence, Shawn Reaves, Denise Crosby, Dar Shelton, Andy Allen, Ron Whitaker, James Vaughan, Jory Shelton, Tawd Dorenfeld for sharing your celebrity, your love and support! This song celebrates the fact that we're all beautiful and endlessly unfinished and if we look in our own backyard we just may find that we are already loved. Then we rewind out of our pain and rewrite the story we tell ourselves about the people in our world. "Unfinished" is a state of being." https://youtu.be/oY65LBqUNxc Years ago before I was The Brain Broad I was Lynette Louise looking for Johnny :) To accompany my first C.D. I made this claymation/live action music video. Even then I involved my children in my projects. I love family businesses. If you like the zaniness great. If not you may need your head checked https://youtu.be/wxX4q5pyobchttps://youtu.be/l0AbL_5UuQI Helping Children all over the world Lynette Louise aka The Brain Broad specializes in autism and other family or concurrent conditions. In Uganda it was Autism and Seizures. In America Autism complicated by PANS and suicidal tendencies. In Israel Autism and sensory integration, speech delay, and depression filtered through the family members. EVERY episode is full of fun and learning and amazing children. Even from an early age Dr. Lynette Louise knew she would grow up and have heaps of children. The victim of domestic abuse she understood all too well that what she experienced growing up was not okay and that she would protect her own children at all costs. But as a young mother she faced unreliable and unsafe partners and the challenge of navigating the foster care system and securing adequate schooling for her autistic and neuro-atypical brood. And even more painfully still, she had to confront her own shortcomings and bad relationship patterns. In her desire to keep her promise to her kids she did the hard emotional work she needed to, went back to school and got her doctorate in psychophysiology, and developed a powerful system to help retrain the brain to help the most neuro-atypical children reach breakthroughs. Dr. Lynette Louise, aka The Brain Broad, has a doctorate in bioscience, holds two board certifications in Neurofeedback (BCIA, NTCB) and is working on her Ph.D. (and is now ABD) in Psychology, with a specialty in Psychophysiology at Saybrook University. Lynette is an international mental health and parenting expert, specializing in autism. She is a speaker, author, performer, popular podcast host, neurofeedback & autism expert, and creator/host/therapist for the international reality series FIX IT IN FIVE with LYNETTE LOUISE aka THE BRAIN BROAD, now showing on The Autism Channel. She is also the single mother of eight now grown children; six were adopted and four were on the autism spectrum. Only one of her sons retains his label and remains dependent. In 2003 Lynette Louise became the only professional from the Autism Treatment Center of America to be certified in two modalities: Option Process Mentor Counselor and Child Facilitator. Though she is experienced in many behavioral modalities training from The Autism Treatment Center shaped her approach the most. Lynette has been practicing the Option Process since 1997 and working with autism since 1983, when she first began adopting children. Having helped hundreds of adults and children with a combination of playroom, dialogue, and family dynamics counseling, in 2004 Lynette began using Neurofeedback as an additional therapeutic modality for healing the brain. Formerly of The Brain Injury Therapy Clinic in Westlake where she worked closely with Dr. Burke chief scientist for EEG Spectrum, Lynette has successfully helped clients with Bipolar Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Tourettes, Seizure Disorders ADHD, Depression, Addiction, Sensory Integration Dysfunction, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Lynette Louise is also a speaker for RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) and does important talks on topics such as sexual abuse, domestic violence, and the effects of abuse on mental health. Her popular college topic, Getting Beyond Your Sexual History and Raising Your Relationship IQ – A Look at Tend and Befriend, teaches about the brain’s natural defense in abuse situations, the common mistake of victim-blaming and the relationship between the two. She then offers tools and simple tips for changing the story and staying safe. What you’ll learn about in this episode: Why Lynette was motivated to begin working with and specializing in autism after she adopted children who were on the autism spectrum Why beginning her work with autism in the 1980s when few experts were even talking about autism offered new experiences and challenges to Lynette What autism is, why it exists as a spectrum instead of a clear yes-or-no, and what common symptoms and traits exist in people on the autism spectrum Why catering to common myths about autism can create and strengthen the challenges a person on the autism spectrum may experience in the workplace How Lynette’s “four-to-one” strategy works, and how it can help with accessibility and comfort in the workplace for people on the autism spectrum What perseveration is and why it specifically matters for people on the autism spectrum in the workplace when it comes to the tasks they are asked to complete Why there are multiple factors that can make eye contact and communication difficult for people on the autism spectrum Why it is vitally important to view people on the autism spectrum individually rather than as a group Additional resources: Website: www.lynettelouise.com Website: www.brainbody.net MIRACLES ARE MADE: A Real-Life Guide to Autism by Dr. Lynette Louise: https://amzn.to/2ORzR7Q Twitter: @lynettelouise Facebook: www.facebook.com/thebrainbroad/ Instagram: @the_brain_broad LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/lynette-louise-the-brain-broad-4aa8291/
