Aaron Judge's otherworldly season is beyond Ruthian Is this what it was like to watch Babe Ruth play every day? “He's able to go on historical runs, MVP-type runs, otherworldly-type runs,” In his career, Ruth had seasons of 60, 59, 54 and 54. He hit 40 or more in six other years. In that sense, Judge has some catching up to do. In '27, Ruth went on two 51-game tears that make you check your work three and four times when you're done, to make sure the numbers are right because it feels like they couldn't possibly be right. Now let's take a look at Aaron Judge's 51 games There's a word for that: Ruthian. Or maybe it should be Judgian. “He's in that company all the time now,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone says. “It's incredible what he's doing, it really is. Kind of a ho-hum 2-for-4 [Sunday] with one off the batter's eye. He's in those conversations now all the time with Gehrig and Ruth and whatever superlative you can find. He keeps putting himself in those conversations.” Twice? In his career, Ruth had seasons of 60, 59, 54 and 54. He hit 40 or more in six other years. In that sense, Judge has some catching up to do. This is what it had to be like in 1927, in 1921, in 1930. Ruth 12 seasons 100 RBI's 170 .393 16 of 17 .300+ 2,500 games 1330 K's. 60'K's per Gehrig 13 seaons 100+RBI. 7 seasons 150+ RBI. 185. 12 seasons in a row .300+ 2,164 games 2,130 consequtive games avg 152 games per 17 seasons 790 K's 46 K's per season Judge 919 games avg 111 games 9 seasons 1131 K's 125 K's per One season .311. 2 seasons 100+ RBI. Christian Scott. 6'4 215 Bigger Stronger Faster With Christian Scott pitching the finest game of his young career and cruising, Mendoza went and got him after he retired the first two batters in the sixth inning. Scott, pitching on four days' rest for the first time in his career (and scheduled to pitch against the Rockies in four days on Saturday) was at 77 pitches after throwing 99 in Washington last week. Said Mendoza: “It's a tough spot. The kid's too important.” Yanks NY Post When you go from having the best record in baseball immediately into a tailspin by losing 15 of 20 games, there figure to be plenty of factors. And the Yankees have had plenty since their reversal began in mid-June. But nothing has been more stark than the disaster the starting rotation has turned into, going from the best in the majors to the worst, seemingly overnight. Over their last 20 games, they rank dead-last in ERA at 6.96 and have allowed 2.23 home runs per nine innings — the highest rate in MLB. And while starters went a combined 35-13 in those first 72 games, they've been 3-13 since. “Guys are gonna go through things,'' pitching coach Matt Blake said during the just-completed homestand. “You just hope four of them don't go through it at the same time and we've had some of that lately.” And even Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have shown they're mortals at times. Judge's current 2-for-20 slide is nothing to be alarmed about, nor is the fact that Soto is 11-for-56 with four extra-base hits in his last 17 games, but no one outside of Ben Rice has been able to pick up the slack and it's not realistic to think he can produce at a high rate as the league adjusts to him. Dodgers Connecting the Dots Miller / Buehlet / Wrobleski Miller “It was just great to see him out there and doing his thing,” Roberts said. “I know he expects a lot of himself, even being his first outing. I thought there were some good throws in there, some things we have to clean up as far as the consistency of the throw. But to have him out there and give us a chance to win was big.” Getting Miller back was significant for the Dodgers. He's one of the most promising young pitchers in the game and will have a major role in October, barring another injury It's important to note that his command was an issue in the latter two starts. More worrying, however, is the fact that he also lost some velocity after averaging 98.8 miles per hour with his fastball in the first game. He lost 0.8 mph on his heater and 1.2 mph off his sinker, respectively. The loss of command in addition to diminished velocity are tell-tale signs of an injury, so this isn't an all too shocking development. Miller was previously sidelined in early 2023 with "mild shoulder soreness," which impacted his MiLB start. Buehler “It sucks to feel kind of invaluable, or like you're hampering your team,” Buehler said after Tuesday's start. “At the end of the day, we really like our team and want to be ready for the end of the year. And I'm going to do whatever I need to do to feel like I can help our team at the end of the year, and do everything in my power to be valuable enough to be on those rosters.” “You only get a finite number of throws to try and fix some things and work on some things without putting yourself in harm's way for your next start or taking away bullets for the next start and so on,” said Dodgers assistant pitching coach Connor McGuiness. “It's a tricky process. But if there's any guy I would bet on to figure this out, he's the guy I would bet on The Athletic Richard Fits When you look at right-hander Richard Fitts, who was one of the prospects acquired in the Alex Verdugo trade, what would you like him to continue to improve on at Triple A and what's stood out so far about him? He's bought in really well to the programming and to the staff and is willing to make adjustments and push himself. That's been great to have a kid that works that hard. He's built a lot of relationships and trust here already. It's pretty simple. When he sits 95-plus, he's a really good pitcher that can be a rotation piece for a major-league club and for the Boston Red Sox. When he's operating at 95 and below, he tends to get hit a little harder and becomes someone who is not as impactful in the long term. So the velocity consistency, the velocity gains, the velocity improvement, which has happened, has been the focus and will continue to be the focus. Pitching better than ever ? What makes that idea so tough to stomach is that Ohtani truly is a lights-out pitcher. Between 2021 and 2024, Ohtani started 74 games for the Los Angeles Angels and posted an ERA of 2.84. Ohtani put up ridiculous numbers at the plate last season, too 44 HR 95 RBI 161 K's .304 In fact, Ohtani's performance at the plate has been so consistently devastating that there's now a legitimate argument to be had that the finest two-way player since Babe Ruth should follow in the footsteps of the Bambino by making the most radical adjustment of his career—and abandoning pitching altogether 100 RBI 1x 87 K's -plate discipline 481 innings in 5 years

Hour 1 Aaron Rodgers did not show up to mandatory minicamp. The Jets explained it was for a reason very important to Rodgers. Some people think it's a big deal and some people think it's a nothing story. What it is, is another Aaron Rodgers story that has nothing to do with a game on Sunday. Haason Reddick was also an unexcused absence. Robert Saleh seemed more annoyed at Rodgers absence than the Reddick one. It seems like whatever the reason that Rodgers is missing camp, it's not something the Jets agree with. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with Aaron Judge hitting a ball into the waterfalls against the Royals in a 10-1 win. The Mets lost a lackluster game to the Marlins. We heard from Robert Salah on Rodgers and Reddick missing mandatory minicamp. Golfer Jon Rahm withdrew from the US Open because of a foot infection. In the final segment of the hour, Joey Chestnut is out of the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest because he endorses a plant based hot dog.  Hour 2 Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake indicated that at some point during the season, Luis Gil is going to take a ‘time out' due to innings limits. He will either go to the bullpen or miss some starts. Fans in St. Louis gave opposing pitcher Paul Skenes a standing ovation when he came out of the game. Some baseball fans didn't like that. Jerry returns for an update and we have the call of the Giancarlo Stanton HR with some extra A-I on the call. Judge also hit one, right into the waterfall in center. The Mets lost a lackluster game to the Marlins. Randall Cobb was on a podcast and was critical of the way the Jets handled Zach Wilson. Russell Wilson feels the fountain of youth in Pittsburgh. Travis Kelce wants the load on him this season. Jon Rahm is out of the US Open because of a foot infection. In the final segment of the hour, Gio saw a guy in his 30s doing a comb over and he thinks he's doing it as an homage to old school 1980s comb over. Gio said he looked like a time traveler.  Hour 3 Dianna Russini of The Athletic tweeted that Aaron Rodgers is skipping all of Jets mandatory minicamp and added, ‘because he prefers to be somewhere else away from football'. Dianna calls in to tell us everything she knows about the Rodgers/Jets situation. Jerry returns for an update and starts with audio from Tyrod Taylor about the Rodgers situation and getting more reps with the starters this week. The Yankees had no problem with the Royals as Judge, Stanton and Austin Wells all homered. Game 3 of Celtics/Mavericks is tonight in Dallas. Chris Russo talked about the time change in trying to watch the Olympics on the Peacock. In the final segment of the hour, Hollywood Squares is coming back on CBS and Nate Burleson and Drew Barrymore are involved.  Hour 4 Aaron Rodgers missed mandatory minicamp, and this morning we talked to Dianna Russini after she told us he's missing the entire week. She said he wants to do something he would rather do than be at minicamp. Of course some callers think this is a big deal and some people think this is no big deal. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with some sound from the Jets including Breece Hall. The Yankees beat the Royals 10-1 with homers from Judge, Stanton and Austin Wells. The Moment of The Day involves a Giancarlo Stanton HR call with a little help from Eddie using A-I. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry West has passed away at 86 years old. He is the NBA logo.

The New York Yankees ended the 2023 season with a dud of a series against the Kansas City Royals, losing two out of three games and finishing with an 82-80 record, their worst since 1992. On Sunday, Michael King had a rough ending to the season, giving up four runs in four innings, including three home runs. The Yankees dropped their season finale 5-2. Hour 1: Jerry and Sal are together one last time and Sal has a message for everyone on this Feel Good Summer Friday: MEEERRY BUCKMAS! The Mets are back and are going to the playoffs while the Yankees are done. Not really, but the Yankees had a disappointing loss to the Orioles to split the series and are having a very strange season. The Yankees tried to make an infielder into an outfielder and Sal doesn't understand how they're over .500. Jerry says they're good but not great. They will have some interesting decisions to make before the trade deadline. Sal begs the Mets to do something with this opportunity and says Carlos Carrasco's 8 inning effort gave him a “sports semi”. CLo is here but first the guys discuss Sal's adventures after the show on Thursday. The Mets won big to complete a sweep in Arizona. Francisco Lindor went 5-for-5 the day after being sick and needing an IV. Sal liked seeing the Mets show some fire when Francisco Alvarez was hit by a pitch. The Orioles crushed Luis Severino. Sal says the Yankees have to address Severino's struggles somehow. Aaron Boone said Severnio is fine physically. How can that be true with the way he is pitching? Boone sounds miserable and the TV camera caught him picking his nose this week. DJ LeMahieu is washed up. In the final segment of the hour, Violet, a 94 year old Yankees fan, calls in to share how disgusted she was watching last night's game. Hour 2: Jerry wonders what the Mets lineup could look like if Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor get hot and play like they did on Thursday night. The Mets saved their season this week. Jerry says proceed with caution because they haven't gained ground the last few nights even though they've won their games. This weekend's series with the Padres is a big one and the Mets have their two aces lined up. Will that finally work out for them? Jerry thinks Sal missed the boat not trademarking “Merry Buckmas”. The Yankees don't look great but still win more often than not so it's hard to go nuts. CLo returns and starts with the Mets big win. The 3B umpire forgot to make a call on one of Francisco Lindor's triples. Francisco Alvarez said next time you don't like my homeruns strike me out. Sal LOVES what he sees and hears from Alvarez. Enough to buy his road gray jersey. The three guys have varying views on the most rewatchable Christmas movies. Sal says something special is brewing in Queens but Jerry says let's relax. Gunnar Henderson was one of many Orioles to have a great night against Luis Severino. Sal hates Matt Blake's answer about Severino's struggles. Aaron Boone got testy when asked to evaluate his left fielders defensive performance. It's hard to comprehend how some Yankees prospects have flamed out AFTER looking like stars early in their careers. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and Sal wonder if Oswald Peraza or Estevan Florial will get a chance this season. Hour 3: Jerry plays “Sal's bunch of crap” and asks for his instant reaction to headlines. First up: Tom Brady might be dating Kim Kardashian. Sal approves. What exactly happened with Victor Wembanyama, his security guard and Britney Spears. Sal doesn't need to see what happens at celebrity parties. Sal is into reality TV. Will he care about the new reality show featuring NFL QBs? You bet he will. Why are people throwing things at artists on stage? Zoo thinks it's all an attempt to go viral. Jerry is taking his wife to see P!NK on a Monday night in Wisconsin. CLo returns but before we get to him, Jerry shares old traveling stories with Sal from when they called Columbia games together. Pete Alonso hit a homer right after Keith Hernandez said he's been off lately. Francisco Alvarez has the look of someone you shouldn't mess with. The Braves have played insanely good baseball since last May 31. Gunnar Henderson torched Luis Severino and the Yankees. Sal wants to ask questions in a postgame press conference to call out the BS. Carlos Rodon will make his debut tonight. Was Sal too critical back in the day? In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and Sal wonder where Damian Lillard will end up. Sal wants the Blazers to stay strong and not cave to his demands. Jerry thinks Lillard and Jalen Brunson can exist in the same backcourt. Sal likes that the Knicks are being patient and waiting for the right big move. Jerry wonders if that move could still possibly happen this summer. Hour 4: The great Ian Eagle joins Jerry and Sal for his annual summer visit - and possibly the last one with Sal moving to middays. Ian was honored with the National Sportscaster of the Year Award. Ian tries to open Sal's eyes to the value of the NBA's new in-season tournament. Ian is getting ready to call Jets games with Aaron Rodgers at QB for Gang Green. CLo is here for his final update of the day. Francisco  Lindor went 5-for-5 with two triples and a HR. He was a double shy of the cycle and has great numbers this year except for batting average. Who was Hoot Evers? In Moment of the Day, Sal had to sugarcoat some awful performances back when he was doing color commentary for Columbia. In the final segment of the show, Jerry says so long to Sal with this possibly being their final show together. Sal is excited to get started with Brandon Tierney on the midday show.

Judge is ahead of Mantle and Maris' 1961 home run pace. Miguel Andujar wants a trade. Derek Jeter joined twitter. How do we know which seed makes what fruit or plant? How many people died trying this stuff out back in the day? Plus we hand out pinstripes - BUY TICKETS TO BARSTOOL AT THE BALLPARK

Jack officially joins the podcast for the first time!! Great to finally have him on board, and very excited to see what he contributes to the podcast. The Yankees just ended a stretch of 23 games in 22 days. They went 15-8 in those games. We discuss how good the starting rotation has been all season for the Yanks, while the bullpen needs to look for reinforcements while many injuries have stunted the electricity through that staff. The injury bug has struck with Stanton, Donaldson, Chapman, among others hitting the I.L. lately. Need some guys to step up while we are down, or step aside for another guy. Hicks, Gallo, and Higgy are a gaping black hole in our lineup, but all the options to fix those issues can be resolved internally. Listen Now on all platforms!! Follow on social media @pinstripe.pals!! Thank you all for the support!!

Since Andrew was out of town for a few days, it's been longer than normal since the previous PSAP recording on Tuesday of last week. Quite a few things have happened in Yankee Land, and unfortunately, most of them weren't good! Kunj and Andrew caught up on Josh Donaldson's dumb comments that hurt the Yankees' good vibes, an up-and-down homestand against the White Sox & Orioles, and the team's injured list woes relating to Giancarlo Stanton, Jonathan Loáisiga, Aroldis Chapman, Chad Green, and hey maybe you too! But not all is lost. Aaron Judge, Jose Trevino, and Clay Holmes have all been doing serious work to keep the Yankees afloat, and the starting rotation has been as steady as ever. Major kudos as always to pitching coach Matt Blake. Now, if only Aaron Hicks could show any signs of life whatsoever... We can dream, right? All these topics are discussed, as are the Yankees' schedule ahead (ew Trop), the B-Ref Leaderboard Update, and the Yankee & Manfred of the Week. Also: Kunj's preferred soda! This is an equally important subject, of course. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Opening Day is nearly upon us! So it's time for Andrew and Kunj to dust off the ol' podcast feed and look ahead to the Yankees' long-awaited 2022 campaign. They start off with a rundown of the major moves from the offseason, highlighted by the Greg Bird signing trade that brought Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Yankees in exchange for Gary Sánchez and Gio Urshela. There's also the return of Anthony Rizzo, the late spring swaps to add Miguel Castro to the bullpen and Jose Trevino to the catching corps, and the decisions to bid farewell to Luke Voit, Clint Frazier, Corey Kluber, Joely Rodríguez, and — seemingly — Brett Gardner. Next up is a review of how the Opening Day roster seems to be lining up, with the Yankees electing to go with a three-man bench in April, thanks to expanded rosters after a shortened spring and a desire to get as many pitching arms in the mix as possible. Marwin Gonzalez made the team as an all-purpose utilityman, and rookies JP Sears, Ron Marinaccio, and Clarke Schmidt will get shots in the bullpen. One looming question remains: Will Aaron Judge be extended before his Opening Day deadline, or is he heading into a contract year and a potential departure next offseason? Ask Freddie Freeman; it could happen. Finally, they wrap up with a general Yankees season preview, delving into the changes to the hitting staff and their biggest projects for 2022 (Joey Gallo, Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Hicks), whether the team's defense-first catching approach will work out, and if pitching coach Matt Blake can continue to work his magic with the rotation of Gerrit Cole and His Merry Men. At the very least, the bullpen looks loaded once again. There is also some brief discussion of the rest of the AL East foes, as the Blue Jays, Rays, and Red Sox are sure to continue being thorns in the Yankees' side. The podcast ends, as always, with the Yankee and Mitre of the Week/Offseason. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Most of 2019, I wrote or talked about how the Cardinals made for a natural trade partner with the Indians. Now that the season is over is this still case? I look at how many of the Cardinals hitters regressed or struggled in 2019. I go over a pitching staff which has one of the best young arms in baseball, and then a bunch of fungible back end types. We look into one of the deepest pens in the league. After recording it was announced the Yankees had hirer, the recently promoted, Matt Blake to be their new pitching coach. So there is a quick take on this after the podcas's initial end. I will have more on Blake on Monday, but know his loss will be felt more than Puig or any free agent the Indians lose this year or next. Learn more about your ad choices.
