Today we're talking to Pieter Limburg. Pieter is the founder and CEO of Mobilo, the smart business card. By simply tapping your Mobilo card on a new contact's phone screen, all of your contact information will appear right on their phone. Pieter has had his fingers on the pulse of technology since the 90's, he's started multiple companies and has taken on 3D printing and RFID.In this episode we dive deep into Peter's entrepreneurial journey, the different types of innovation, how Mobilo got their first customers, and much more. Key Lessons:1. Start with the problem, don't start with a product - it's important to really hone in on the problem you're solving before you start building 2. Validate demand quickly and cheaply - set up a landing page and run ads to it to see if people are willing to pay money to solve the problem. By validating demand quickly, it'll allow you to make sure the money you spend building out the product will have returns. Links mentioned: https://www.mobilocard.com/
Meet PieterPieter is the founder and CEO of Mobilo with the smart business card, he has had his fingers on the pulse of technology since the 1990s. Starting multiple companies and taking on 3d printing. After a period of consulting and failed startup projects. Peter stumbled upon RFID and its untapped potential. This led to the launch of Mobilo. How are you tying in networking versus advertising?I think networking is often scary. And advertising is a little easier, even though you're putting yourself out there in a different way. It's a little less confrontational, right, running an ad is, is easier to do. Networking might be a bigger step for some people. On the other hand, it's all about strategic fit. So when I think about networking versus advertising, look back at your product and figure out what's important for you. Do you really prefer to meet a couple of people? And can that make your a month or quarter? A big time? Or do you really need to be with the masses and find the right fit there? So what do you think Laurie? What was your first thought you heard about this? Lori: well, networking, I thought you just had to be in the big in the, in the sea of the masses. My perspective has changed a lot though. I mean, this is definitely what I'm fascinated with. And it's, it's more about the investment, the long-term investment with a few people as opposed to, you know, short snippets of time with many many people. How can they collaborate and cooperate together?Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I've heard, which makes me think about something I've heard an artist not too long ago rapper, saying, Hey, I'm going to build my fan base one fan at a time, add one fan per day, basically. And I imagine that right if you build your network to be three or 65 people, by the end of the year, you could organize an event. And if all 365 people are legit, gentlemen. If fans are interested in what you have to say or, or good community then that will be worth it to organize the events by itself, right? If you fill a room with 200 people, it would already be a great event, I think even 50 people would already be would be fantastic. So that's what you can do with networking. Obviously, if I would stand outside here, New York City, and I would go outside and walk up to Times Square, I would meet 120,000 people every single day. But if I don't have anything to tell them that resonates with them, I'm shooting I'm shooting in the dark. Lori: I 100% agree. And that's where those two, advertising and networking kind of tie in together because you're getting some conciseness with your messaging, and clarity with your messaging is what ultimately attracts people to you. When you have that initial conversation with him like you're the speed networking. I mean, you've got 30 seconds to wow, someone you want to have a really polished message. And that's kind of where the marketing and advertising come into play. How do you see potential in undervalued technology?Well, first of all, I am a real techie. And I think I, my father have brought me very early on in touch with computers. And so my love for technology really, really grew. And we, beyond the necessity, the necessity of technology, but I consider myself a geek, a nerd. But now that technology is really taking taken over so much of our lives. I, I really think it's important that technology is there as an assistant, it should be on the side. But it should be catching wherever we, as human beings can be served and helped and maybe some friends I'll give you an example. I think one of the reasons why I love Mobilo is because it helps me stay in touch with people in the perfect way. I still need to make it personal. That's what I have to do as a human but I forget that I've met people or forget what I've spoken to them about. And as I'm super jealous of my wife who doesn't forget anything, whenever we go to birthday parties, or in general she always whispers in my

This is the story of how business cards became cool again. Pieter is the founder and CEO of https://mobilocard.com/ (Mobilo), the smart business card where you tap your card on a phone and a link opens with your contact details. It's as simple as holding your card near a phone and then receiving contact information. Their patent-pending lead generation mode automatically shares and gathers contact details from both parties via a text message. Pieter has been embedded in internet companies since the late 90s, but he became fascinated with Radio-Frequency Identification technology in the last couple of years. Pieter saw the untapped potential of this technology and launched Mobilo in October 2019.
Pieter Limburg, CEO of Mobilo Card, shares about their smart business card and how it helps people make a great first impression as well as distribute their vital contact information. During this episode of the Lab Coat Agents Podcast, Jeff talks to Pieter Limburg. Pieter became fascinated with radio frequency identification technology. He shares his experience in the technology world and how you can use it for networking, data ethics, and 3D printing. Episode Highlights: Pieter loves technology because it is practical. It frees him up for the things that he loves to do instead of the things that he has to do. Online and offline have to be the same experience. If you have a card online, why can't you get it offline as you get offline support for something that you buy online and all those things? Pieter left Shapeways 3D printing company in 2018 and launched his own venture MOBILO. Jeff inquires, “When you were with Shapeways, and you were kind of looking ahead and trying to figure out where you want to go... You said you did something for yourself. Where did the vision come from to create what you have now created?” For consumer products, you just have to keep throwing things against the wall and see if it sticks. Time and time again, you might have to throw 1000 things at the wall before you find something. Jeff says he goes to a lot of events and people ask him all the time - “Can I have your business card?” Jeff says “Yeah, it is called Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.. go find me.” Ryan Serhant mentioned his strategy of staying in touch in his book - follow up, follow through, and follow back. The business card is not only practical, it definitely is an icon of a representation of your business of who you are. The digital business card is fairly simple: tap the card, it drops the contact, then you can save it to your phone, says Jeff. Pieter points out, “From two of my friends who I used to test this card, they gave feedback that I don't want to share my social media details, what I really want is their contact details. I want to build out of my database, warm everybody up with an email every now and then, and make sure that I am top of their mind when they are ready to pull the trigger or looking for something that they think that I can help them with.” Jeff inquires about the digital business card versus the social profile hub. Are these separate tools? When you are sitting down with a new client, new buyer, or a new listing, you are going to sit down with a listing agreement or a buyer's agreement, says Jeff. Pieter explains the framework of MOBILO.Some people don't like to bring a big stack of business cards; A group of people have asked them to develop something that doesn't require a business card, but it is always with them. 3 Key Points: If you are not really adding value to a product, you are not able to charge a fair price for it, says Pieter. He further adds that if you cannot charge your fair price, you will always end up competing against other products that are similar, and therefore you won't make money. If you program an RFID chip in a certain way, the only thing you have to do is to tap it on your phone, and it can trigger some sort of response. So, Pieter thought that it is a business card with a chip inside tapping on your phone, and he can share his contact details. It is a lot fancier than a paper business card. It does have a QR code on the back. The QR code and the tap RFID function do the same thing. This is compatible across not just Apple but also Android and whatnot. We have built some of the cool things of office CRM that are way too complicated as well as the big Salesforce environments of this world into this business card, says Pieter. An interview with Pieter Limburg "I loved the bit where Peter talks about how we can often overestimate the short term and underestimate the long term when it comes to differentiating between trends and fads." - Adam Callow --- About Pieter Limburg In the late 90s, Pieter started off as an "internet hustler" with various eBay shops and building tailor-made PCs. In 2004 retail was starting to see online disruption and Pieter turned around an old-fashioned photo camera store from "analog to digital". Building one of the first online & offline hybrid formulas was a big hit and revenue grew quickly. In 2012 he sold the company and made the switch to 3D Printing Service bureau and Marketplace, Shapeways. At first, taking care of the EMEA supply chain, putting in place management reporting, lower cost and lead-time and scaling from a handful of vendors to 50+ and later joined the MT in NYC to head up Growth, Sales & Business Development. After almost 6 years at Shapeways, it was time for a change and through some consulting and failed startup projects Pieter stumbled upon RFID and the untapped potential. This led to the launch of Mobilo Card.
