If you get stuck on the idea of if something sparks joy or not... here is a new test you can use to decide if you want to declutter something or keep it. It's the poop test. Ask this question when trying to decide if something should be decluttered or kept... "if it was covered in poop, would you clean it off or throw the item away?"If you picked up your running shoes and they were covered in poop, would you clean them, scrape off the poo, take the laces out, soak the shoes and then wash and dry them. Would you do that? Or would you just throw them in the rubbish? The fundamental idea is that if you create a framework for decision making, it will make it easier for you to make decisions. And the framework needs to fit your values. If you're someone who wants to be surrounded by items that bring you incredible joy, use the spark joy frameworkIf you're more of a practical person, use the need it, use it, love it frameworkIf you're someone who needs to visualise poo on an item to decide if it's worth cleaning to keep... them use that framework!!I'd love to ask you to leave a 5 star Google review today - it takes less than 2 minutes and it will make a huge impact on others confidence to listen/ engage/ join with our community and services around the world. Today we explore how you can reduce impulse buying and remain intentional in your purchasing.Think of it like adding 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) to your purchases. Basically you're making it just a little inconvenient for you to purchase things that might just end up as clutter quicker than you'd like. Some ideas that might act as your 2FA- Have a time delay on purchases over a certain amount of money- Have someone else keep your Amazon password (not to control, but to make purchases somewhat inconvenient for yourself)- Unsubscribe from marketing emails so you're not being enticed to buy things you don't need- Uninstall shopping apps from your phoneI'd love to ask you to leave a Google review today - it takes less than 2 minutes and it will make a huge impact on others confidence to listen/ engage/ join with our community and services around the world. “Startup CEOs should not play the odds. When you are building a company, you must believe there is an answer and you cannot pay attention to your odds of finding it. You just have to find it. It matters not whether your chances are nine in ten or one in a thousand; your task is the same.” —Ben Horowitz, The Hard Thing About Hard Things We are not meant to compare ourselves to eight billion people. I know I'm not the first to remind you that social platforms are status games on globalized steroids. With so much exposure to people who are (actually) smarter, funnier, prettier, and/or fill-in-the-blanker, the logical conclusion would be not to jump in. Right? In Zero Sum Logic, this is correct. When we say trusting ourselves, which self are we talking about? Which parts of ourselves can't be trusted? That's what we're exploring today with returning guest, Ilise Benun. We discuss how confidence is a byproduct of action, what made her so angry that she decided to start her own business twenty five years ago, building tolerance for silence and small experiments, and why she puts her phone number in her newsletter, on her website, and in the “from” line of her emails. If you haven't already, check out our previous conversation in episode 165: Are your clients bringing out the best in you? Engineering the Evolution of Your Business with Ilise Benun and episode 467 of Marketing Mentor on How to Free Your Time. More About Ilise: Ilise Benun is the founder of Marketing-Mentor.com, the go-to online resource for creative professionals who want better projects with bigger budgets, through which she offers business coaching. She is also a national speaker and author of 7 books, including "The Creative Professional's Guide to Money," three online courses via CreativeLive and Domestika.org, and The Simplest Marketing Plan – all tailored to the needs of creative professionals. She has also been hosting the Marketing Mentor Podcast since 2008, with over 465 episodes at the time of this recording.
Continuing to review positive and negative takeaways from fans following the Packers 18-17 win over the Saints, as well as text reactions to Jim in Saukville's epic phone call. Also, a round of Need It Or Don't Need It? presented by Fleet Farm. And was Matt LaFleur lost in the moment after yesterday's win, or was it as monumental as he made it sound?
I used to refer to myself as a hot mess often in the early blogging days circa 2008, until someone scolded me saying it wasn't a nice way to describe myself, that maybe it wasn't the best self-image to curate. So I stopped. But I lost something in dropping the “hot” and the “mess” as I now approach middle age (and grandma-status in my soul). Today's post is a crossover from my newest project, Rolling in D
We are celebrating a very special milestone today—the Pivot podcast's eighth birthday! It's a veritable third-grader by now. This podcast first launched in September 2015 as a teeny tiny scrappy side project to supplement the *Pivot* book while I was writing it. I had so much fun interviewing people and hitting record that by the time the book launched in the fall of 2016 one year later, the podcast had almost eclipsed it as the favorite thing that I do on a day-to-day basis. Now, thanks to you, we have over 2 million downloads and 340 episodes (not including another 230 on the Free Time podcast). There have been many ups and downs along the way, where I wondered if I should stop doing this podcast. Today, I'm sharing eight things that help me stay in the game.
The guys enjoy a round of Need It Or Don't Need It? presented by Fleet Farm reacting to commentary from Matt LaFleur's conversation with Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Gabe and Tausch continue their reaction to Craig and Jason's comments by discussing how the uncertainty surrounding the first round can make a Draft-day trade hard to predict. Jesse Nelson is on his way to Chippewa Falls, so Wolly leads the guys through a draft-themed Need It or Don't Need It. They spend the remainder of Hour 2 reacting to the bombshell news that the NFL has suspended five more players for violating the league's gambling policy, including former Badgers wide receiver Quintez Cephus!
It's the "medium-hard soft launch" of the Wilde & Tausch video stream! So naturally, Tausch is distracted for much of the first segment. What's the best body of water? And why can't any national shows ever say the name of our show correctly? Also, a round of Need It Or Don't Need It? presented by Fleet Farm with some Packers NFL Draft prognostications before Mel Kiper Jr. joins the show...

They need to KNOW IT, because they are going to NEED IT.They need to know that God's power is directed toward us for a purpose. It is a power that is as powerful as the resurrection power; it is a finished, seated power; it is a heavenly, otherworldly power; it is beyond category, person, era or exception. As we'll see further in this book, we'll need this power to THINK right, BE right, ACT right, PRAY right, and FIGHT right.Let's know the power correctly. Where does that sense of obligation come from and how can we manage our response when we're offered free stuff?Do you see potential in everything? Do you want to say yes just to avoid potentially hurting someone's feelings? Do you have a scarcity mindset or is there even a sense of greed in your decision making?Today learn from my son Jesse in how he honestly and graciously says no when offered something he doesn't need or want.
