Puget Sound Energy is challenging claims that a recent bill signed into law restricts or eliminates natural gas service, calling it "misinformation." This session, the Washington State Legislature enacted Engrossed Substitute House Bill 1589, which was signed last week by Gov. Jay Inslee. The bill was proposed during last year's session, but failed to clear both chambers. Among its provisions are the consolidation of PSE's planning process for both electric and natural gas services. Initially, the bill also removed PSE's legal obligation to provide existing natural gas service to customers, while banning future natural gas hookups to new commercial or residential construction. A new law signed by Gov. Jay Inslee allows illegal foreign nationals to obtain professional and commercial licenses to work a variety of jobs if they otherwise qualify or meet requirements. Under existing state law, a commercial vehicle license is needed from the state Department of Licensing to legally work certain careers, whereas other professions are regulated by a board of commission that determine the qualifications. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/washington-in-focus/support

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has given his input on what he would like to see you in the CEO for Boeing. A Seattle police officer named Denise Cookie is starting a program aimed at turning kids towards chess instead of crime. // Big Local: There’s been a recent rise in antisemitism in Washington schools, most notably in Issaquah School District where a “teach in” blamed Israel for the death of George Floyd. Meanwhile, in Everett there’s a gazebo being torn down because it is a frequent crime scene, but activists are pushing back. The Washington Commanders have made a whopping 14 new free agency signings this offseason! They are DE Dorance Armstrong, LB Frankie Luvu, C Tyler Biadasz, G Nick Allegretti, LB Bobby Wagner, RB Austin Ekeler, QB Marcus Mariota, LS Tyler Ott, S Jeremy Chinn, TE Zach Ertz, DE Clelin Ferrell, K Brandon McManus, DE Dante Fowler, and LB Anthony Pittman. What do you make of all the moves the Commanders have made so far? Despite all these moves, the cap space the Commanders have is still the most in the NFL and is top 5 in the next 3 years as well. Shout out Adam Peters for being a GM that actually knows what he is doing, and shout out Dan Quinn for being a NFL magnet and attracting all the talent that he has so far in free agency. Looking ahead to the NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders have 9 total picks this coming draft, 6 of them are in the top 100. Are we going to move up to draft Caleb Williams? Stay put and draft either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels? Or do we move down and get JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix or Michael Penix? Given the free agency moves, there seems to be plenty of flexibility for the Commanders. The Comment Mailbag has over 10 comments this week and we read them all! Thank you guys for the comments! For the 1961 season, the Washington Senators moved out of the capital to play ball in Minnesota as the Twins. Marque names such as Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, and Jim Perry helped the team make its mark in its new home. Four years later, the Twins would win the AL pennant and bring it to Minnesota for the first time. As for Washington, the city would not be left without a baseball team. Immediately replacing the Washington Senators in 1961 were… the Washington Senators. The team with an old name was one of two AL expansion teams, and success did not come easy. The team's first pennant was in 2010, but by then, they had moved to Arlington as the Texas Rangers. That first year saw them finish behind everyone else in the AL, posting a 61-100 record. 1961 was the year of a dominant Yankees team, finishing 47 and a half games ahead of the Senators. But what of their head-to-head? We join the Senators at Yankee Stadium on 2nd July; the two teams' record is 3-3, and we have Bob Delaney hosting, with Phil Rizzuto and Red Barber on the play-by-play. You can find the boxscore here. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA196107020.shtml This game was played on 2 July, 1961. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/classicbaseballradio/message
