This comes from a story about Buff Bagwell firing his social media person. This then turns to a discussion about outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and how he needs to resign (and did after this show). This week Gary Weed drops in and discusses the new things going on in his world and ours.  First up....Mark doesn't want to discuss the next shooting for another week in the country. There seems to be a new one each time and everyone has their wishes and wants for how they are viewed. Mark explains his reasoning for not wanting to discuss the newer shooting stating that nobody is willing to play the rules down the middle like himself. Calling things for what they are. Honesty as people.  Next Mark and Gary discuss tipping in our culture and the value of it as we move into realms where the the business of tipping and ordering has switched up because of Covid. How do you tip people for food orders? What about other types of tips? Finally Mark and Gary discuss the power of the USA in it's current form. What they can pull off and what they can't. How the other countries should view us...There is a lot of posturing in the world of politics and power, but the target is firmly on the back of the USA! oday on Perry and Shawna Mornings it’s Freedom Friday—We celebrate the love of God seen perfectly in Jesus!  First we have a conversation about the love that the Father speaks to us and over us—he tells us that we’ve been chosen, adopted, redeemed and that one day all the sad things will come untrue not only for us but for all creation!  And the assurance of all we have now and we will have forever is his own Spirit who lives in us!  Then Shawna shares from the core of who she is and completely transparently that this week she came to the end of herself.  Find out what she is learning; that in this place we stand at the doorway of possibility.  Next Mark, a West Michigan listener calls in to share a time when he came to a place of complete surrender and made the leap of faith, trusting God would catch him.  Then we have some fun with this:  If you could pick a scented mask cause your tired of smelling your own breath, what scent would you choose??  Next we share the brilliant light of the gospel of grace—that what we deserve for our sin is a separation from God that grows wider and wider for all eternity.  But that God in Jesus Christ willingly came into this world to bridge the gap so that we can have life with God now and forever.  If you can think of anything better than that you’re going to have to tell me.  And finally Jesse one of our listeners who stopped by the show today to bring us Starbucks and frosted cinnamon rolls (!), shares his reflections on what Jesus spoke to his heart this morning.  Today is a sweet show, share it!

"Politics, Politics, Politics....I like it when you mix it up or even ignore politics all together." The amount of times Mark has heard that regarding the show is absolutely mind blowing, but still a potentially fair assessment. Well this is a show that will not disappoint at all.  Chris McQuillen, aka The Toy man, jumps in with Mark Bland and Gary Weed to discuss pop culture and nostalgia. Chris runs the ToyMan Toy Shows in the St. Louis Area and has been doing it since the 1980s/90s.  Bringing in thousands a year to fawn over toys and all artifacts from the world of pop culture, Chris and his team have consistently put on multiple shows a year giving collectors all the opportunities that they could need within the area.  First up the gentlemen discuss how social media has impacted a traditionally offline thing. What new collectible toys and nostalgia has grown out of it and what have been some of the benefits of the internet on toys and Chris' toy show directly.  Next Mark talks about his recent trip to the Lake of the Ozarks (in Missouri) and how he found an old school arcade that has tons of the games that  were throwbacks to the 50's-70's.  It brought Mark back down memory lane, take a listen and see what grabs you. Finally, Gary brings up the name of some shows on netflix and around currently that people need to check out and discuss. Gary throws the list at Mark and Chris and they break down what they like and what they obviously haven't seen.  A unique trip through pop culture and fun on this episode of the Q!

The sea levels haven't quite risen high enough to put us all underwater yet, but until we get there, Baltimore duo Waterplanet (James Hesser and Millie Landrum) will be playing their brand of acoustic, intelligent, genre-bending music. And this July, they'll be playing songs from their album Ghost-Hypnotic and more in various parts of the US on a three-week tour. Host Mark Ashby talks with them about the way they tend to write songs solo and then turn them into something bigger, how 60s pop and punk and many other styles inform their sound, and where you'll be able to hear them out and about. Mark Bland, Jason Kull, Producer Bobby and Board op John are joined by special guest Alex Elias as they make the debut of the Q on 1190 AM The Patriot in St. Louis.  First up is the general discussion about the latest movements in the Trump transition and how they don't look like its going to be a smooth trip. Next Mark touches on the way we as people, if you are unhappy with trump being President, should view and handle news stories from here on out.  Do we need to discuss everything that the man does?  Does it take away his luster if we choose to ignore?  That and many other questions pop up. Finally the team focuses on how their zodiac signs attract people to them and a discussion about a lady, a guy and their unborn baby.  The team is divided on whether the man in the relationship should have as much power and say in the relationship to do what he did.  And what did he do??? Well you have to listen to the Q and find out!

Mark Bland and Jason Kull discuss the transition and some of the aura around the picks and moves that Donald Trump, the President-Elect, is making.  A ton of work goes into making good choices and his choices seem very controversial in the long idealistic stances that many of them have.  It's blatantly obvious that Trump fell into this presidency aloof and is also trying to fit in as much as he can before the inauguration. Next Mark switches up the topic and reads some questions from the listeners. One is a truly moral dilemma in the fact that you have to make a long term decision on an extreme gray area regarding Aids. Plus the two gentlemen also discuss Trumps recent "60 Minutes" episode where he backpedalled on almost every major campaign promise he made.

So the year of 2015 starts off on a sobering note.  Stuart Scott, the great sportsanchor of ESPN, passes away from cancer at the age of 49.  So Andy Echele jumps onto the show to discuss this.  The guys discuss what Stuart Scott meant to them and how the world of ESPN styled sportscasting goes. Including Andy breaking out his old school phrase he used for Combat Showcase. Next Mark goes on one of his famous rants about Walmart and the inability of our society to learn from simple things and act accordingly.  Evidently they don't ptu enough energy drinks of a certain style in the local Walmart cooler cases and this sends Mark on a tirade about the cooler cases and other places/situations that no one thinks about until after the fact. Finally the crew gets into a discussion about how Mark is noticing more people since the Ferguson riots complaining about "White Privilege" and what it means to three white people who could potentially be accused of it at moments notice. Also, Mark discusses his some of his stereotype pet peeves and who should, or shouldn't, be allowed to do certain things.  This brings out everyone throwing their issues about many people out in the open. So sit back, turn on the laptop, bring up your spreadsheet and listen to the newest epsisode of The Q.

In this episode of The Smart Agency Master Class, I sit down with Joe Grano who is going to talk to us about who to hire, getting that next level agency, and making the transition from a small, one person agency to bringing on full-time employees. Joe is the president and founder of Next-Mark, a full-service marketing, communications, public relations, and business strategy solutions company based in Sarasota, FL. When to hire full-time employees. Joe once said to me, “I never want to hire employees.” He's since changed his tune and now has several full-time employees on his team. In fact, he prefers them to contractors. Here are the questions Joe considered when making the full-time leap: Can you really afford to do it? There's a level of financial stability needed. Are you willing to give anything up to ensure your employees get paid? If you're not, then you aren't ready yet. Do you know how to hire? Bringing on just anyone can be a disaster. Other considerations: You need to really think about how you want to grow your business because hiring full-time staff is a big mind shift. Understanding that contractors probably don't have your business's best interests in mind. Contractors just don't have the same kind of loyalty as full-time employees. You can do so much more for people who are fully invested in the business, and vice versa. Have full-time staff and only bring on contractors whose core competencies are things that you couldn't afford full-time. Who is the right first hire? Okay, you're making the move to bringing on full-time staff but who is the first hire? Joe and I both brought on people who had been long-time contractors for our businesses. You already know their work style and they're already familiar with your company. Joe's first hire was his Director of Communications; someone who had been with him for awhile as a contractor and who brought along a lot of agency experience. Mine was a designer, but I also definitely recommend hiring some kind of manager - office or project. You need someone to do the operational stuff while you're out growing the business. New employees are an investment. Time is money, and it's hard to commit to spending a lot of your time teaching a new employee. Joe's advice for shortening the learning curve is to hire up. Bring in people with good experience and skill sets, so they can come in and start performing quickly. But remember - like anything else just starting out, new employees need to be nurtured. It takes time to teach them and help them gain confidence in their competencies. Be patient because it will be worth it. How to put together a great team? You may think you want to hire people whose working style is just like yours. You're wrong.  A team made up of a bunch of the same people won't be productive. Look for people who: Work well in teams. Joe recommends check out this TED Talk about hiring introverts. Have working styles that would compliment yours. Use this helpful quiz. Why are setting core values so important? If you don't have core values, you need to get some ASAP. If you have core values, you need to communicate them to your people ASAP. Make sure you are sharing them with your current and new employees, alike. Bonus: Want more info on core values? Check out this video from Zappo's CEO about core values and creating awesomeness. Important steps toward growth. Take a good, hard look at where you want your business to go to bring it up to a next level agency. Remember, new employees take time, so it's important you consider that in your growth plan. Also, think about their long-term fit within the company. If you can only see them around for a couple of projects or for a matter of months, it's not time for full-time staff. Finally, be really comfortable with being able to support someone full time. The last thing you want is to have to let them go after only a little while because you can't afford to pay them. Discover the best Digital Agency Strategies  to create a next level agency today.
