In this enlightening episode of "The Addicted Mind," hosts Duane Osterlind and Eric Osterlind dive into the fascinating world of the four archetypes of happiness based on the work of Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar. These archetypes offer a roadmap for understanding happiness and its pivotal role in addiction recovery. The discussion spans the spectrum from the "Rat Racer," who postpones present joy for future gains, to the "Hedonist," who seeks immediate gratification without pondering future consequences. The hosts also examine the "Nihilist," who doubts the very possibility of happiness, and ultimately, the "Happy Camper," who balances immediate pleasure with long-term goals—the ideal state for sustainable recovery. The SIXTH season of On the Scent (whoah!) has us discussing those scents getting us through what must be the bleakest month in the calendar. What are we wearing, and why?Nicola's discovered a new & unusual way to experience a perfume she already had, and loves it even more, now. Plus there's a new home fragrance brand in town, and believe us when we say they are jawdropping-ly good… Talking about calendars, we're highlighting Suzy's favourites from two incredible fragrance selections, (which may have saved her sanity). PLUS: we answer #perfumeprescription questions helping one listener who wants to smell edible, and another seeking a perfume for her new pooch (who's named in honour of Stanley Tucci!) So: what *would* Tucci wear if he were a hound, we wonder? Many of us struggle with emotional eating. And that's because food is a reliable way to manage our unwanted emotions. Think: Bored. Stressed. Lonely. Angry. Anxious. When we're experiencing difficult emotions, it's natural to turn to food. But here's something that's also common: some of us label ourselves as emotional eaters, when that's not actually the case. For some of us, something else altogether is going on: We just LOVE food. A lot. The truth is, some of us love food so much that we don't know how to contain ourselves. We overdo it because we love it so much. In the midst of our food love affair, it seems we can lose our ability to manage how much food we eat. So it's not so much that we have a “problem” with food – instead, we love it so much that we can easily go overboard. If this sounds familiar, this episode will really hit home. Marc David coaches 35-year old guest client, Romana, who has long assumed that she's an emotional eater. In an effort to put an end to her ‘emotional eating,' Romana wonders: how can she only eat when she's hungry? What does she need to do to control herself? And why does she go against her own wishes when it comes to how much she eats? But in the course of their session, Marc helps Romana recognize that her challenge is a bit different from what she imagines it to be. What Romana believes is her “food issue” is actually just a deep love and excitement for food. So how does Romana and the rest of us love food, without overdoing it? By owning, honoring, and embracing that love. And also learning that loving food in a good way – in a way that supports our body, mind, and soul – means we must cultivate some real SKILL. The truth is, most of us who struggle with emotional eating and overeating simply haven't learned key skills around eating and pleasure. So in this episode, you'll hear Marc explore:

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Announcement on the Future of EA NYC's Dim Sum Restaurant, published by Rockwell on April 1, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. The EA Dim Sum Project is expanding! After input from the Restaurant's major donors and in consideration of initial profits, the EA NYC board has decided to launch new restaurant franchises across the country. In a landmark decision that is sure to stir the pot, EA NYC will now bring highly effective, vegan, Cantonese-style cuisine to new markets. As some observed last year, EA NYC has always had ambitious plans to sprout a whole network of dim sum restaurants. As the only EA project to both turn a substantial profit and receive an endorsement from George the Tofu Guy, we think franchising is one of the highest-EV opportunities on the table. Some may even call it the true Effective Venture. As such, today we are also announcing our new Franchising to Give program - in partnership with AIM's Founding to Give program - that will help aspiring restaurateurs launch a high-growth dim sum restaurant to donate to high-impact charities. After one year of overwhelming success, unparalleled customer satisfaction, and an unexpected endorsement from the local "squirrel" population[1] (who praised our eco-friendly disposal methods), we've concluded that the only logical step forward is to expand. Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian is not just a restaurant: it's a movement, and it's going global. Team: We've hired a small army of EA community builders whose funding has recently been cut to be our general managers. Their skills are highly transferable! With impeccable organizing skills and unfathomable patience, these seasoned professionals are now managing the bustling environment of our franchises. And fear not, we're ensuring their transition is as smooth as our famous custard buns. The Menu: Our R&D team, consisting of top chefs and philosophers, has been working tirelessly to expand the menu and the moral circle: The Utilitarian Udon - Noodles tangled in a delicious dilemma, serving the greatest taste for the greatest number. The Hedonist's Tofu - Cubes of tofu so delectable, they make a case for pleasure as the only intrinsic good. Scope-Sensitive Szechuan - A spicy dish that adjusts its intensity based on the diner's capacity for spiciness, maximizing satisfaction without overwhelming. The Longtermist's Lo Mein - A noodle dish that gets better with every bite, ensuring future generations can enjoy its flavors. Kantian Quinoa - A quinoa salad that respects the autonomy of every ingredient, creating a dish that's as ethical as it is delicious. Deworming Dumplings - Paying homage to one of EA's favorite causes, these dumplings are a crowd-pleaser, with a portion of proceeds helping to fund deworming initiatives.[2] Invitation to Join: Today, we extend an invitation to dreamers, doers, and anyone who's ever felt the call to open a highly-impactful restaurant. The Franchising to Give Initiative is more than a business opportunity; it's a chance to be part of a global shift towards a more ethical, sustainable, and delicious future. A Final Note of Gratitude: We want to express our deepest thanks to the staff of Bodhi, who continue to share their beautiful restaurant with the EA NYC community. Follow the EA NYC calendar for our next community dim sum! Happy April 1st, and here's to planting seeds of change, one franchise at a time.[3] ^ That's one way to say "rat". They were definitely rats. This is New York City, after all. ^ Dumplings do not contain anthelmintic agents. ^ We want to be clear that EA NYC, to our knowledge, does not own any restaurants, fast food establishments, castles, manors, or other commercial or private real estate. We just really like vegan dim sum. And April Fool's Day. Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to ...

It's the story of someone walking along and deciding whether or not to give to someone else asking for a dime, for a nickel, for a quarter. “Childfree describes the voluntary choice to not have children. In most societies and for most of human history, choosing not to have children was both difficult and undesirable. The availability of reliable contraception along with support provided in old age by one's government rather than one's family has made childlessness an option for some people, though they may be looked down upon in certain communities. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word "childfree" first appeared sometime before 1901,[1] and was described as a 'trend' in 2014 in Psychology Today online magazine. [2] The meaning of the term "childfree" extends to encompass the children of others (in addition to one's own children) and this distinguishes it further from the more usual term "childless", which is traditionally used to express the idea of having no children, whether by choice or by circumstance.[3] The term "child-free" has been cited in Australian literature to refer to parents who are without children at the current time. This may be due to them living elsewhere on a permanent basis or a short-term solution such as childcare.[4]” I enjoy self-parenting, self-marriage, and solo living the most. I strictly and only fully appreciate: ethical sexual visual arts (including ethical sexual architecture, ethical sexual ceramics, ethical sexual drawing, ethical sexual filmmaking, ethical sexual painting, ethical sexual photography, and ethical sexual sculpting) ethical sexual literary arts (including ethical sexual fiction, ethical sexual drama, ethical sexual poetry, and ethical sexual prose) ethical sexual performing arts (including ethical sexual dance, ethical sexual music, and ethical sexual theatre), ethical sexual Non-fiction, ethical sexual cinematography, ethical sexual Discography, ethical sexual Filmography, ethical sexual "bibliography", ethical sexual Audiography, ethical sexual Videography, ethical Erotica, ethical pornography, ethical sexual Comedy, ethical sexual cautionary tales, ethical sexual educational entertainment (edutainment), ethical sexual satire, and ethical sexual Scenography. I want and need to be featured in all of these! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support
