INTRODUCTIONSome people in history seem to split the world in two. Say their name, and you immediately stir debate. Martin Luther King Jr.—hero of justice or dangerous disruptor? Galileo—scientific genius or arrogant heretic? Nelson Mandela, Joan of Arc, Malcolm X—each one beloved by some, opposed by others. But history's most polarizing figure? Jesus. No one sparked more debate, division, or devotion. And in John 7, we see that clearly. The question is: Why do people reject Him—and could we be doing the same?John Bunyan knew all about that and wrote, "There was a man, the world did think him mad, the more he gave away, the more he had."Feast of Tabernacles...Originally a harvest festival coming at the end of the last major harvest of the year (grapes). They celebrated God who brought the rain.Became a celebration of God's deliverance of Israel through the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness where God had to supernaturally supply them water for the whole nation in the desert. It had eschatological hopesFor the restoration of the nation of IsraelFor the ingathering of all nations under GodJesus presents himself as God's agent to make these end time events a reality. He does this as the source of life--abundant (like being celebrated during this festival) and eternal (like living water).Bottom line: People reject Jesus for many reasons, but He still calls the thirsty to come and receive real life.In his last 6 months, Jesus enters Jerusalem during the Feast of Tabernacles surrounded by confusion, debate and division over who he is and why he matters. This is the context around his famous teaching about the Holy Spirit's role when he ascends and why he's called living water. OUTLINE (input from ChatGPT)1. Some reject Jesus because He doesn't follow their expectations.(John 7:1–10)Jesus' own brothers didn't believe because He didn't fit their agenda or timeline. We still wrestle with disappointment or control when Jesus won't do what we want, when we want.2. Some reject Jesus because His truth exposes their hypocrisy.(John 7:11–24)Jesus confronts those judging Him wrongly, especially for healing on the Sabbath. We resist truth when it challenges our comfort, image, or self-righteousness.3. Some reject Jesus because of assumptions and incomplete knowledge.(John 7:25–36)The crowd “knows” where Jesus is from and assumes He can't be the Christ.Spiritual blindness often comes from thinking we already understand everything.4. Some reject Jesus because they fear people more than God.(John 7:40–52)Division rises. Leaders pressure, mock, and dismiss. Nicodemus is silenced.Following Jesus means risking disapproval—but silence is a choice too.5. But Jesus still calls: If you're thirsty, come to Me and drink.(John 7:37–39)On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus invites all to receive living water—the Holy Spirit.Rejection isn't the end of the story. Jesus still offers Himself to anyone willing to come in faith.CONCLUSION Bottom line: People reject Jesus for many reasons, but He still calls the thirsty to come and receive real life."For decades one of the first places immigrants to America landed was Ellis Island. They came hoping for a better life, longing for a chance to find happiness. Near Ellis Island was a statue, and the statue was an invitation. A poem by Emma Lazarus captured the invitation:"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"What a beautiful invitation. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses." Jesus extends a better invitation. "Come, weary and broken. Come, thirsty and dying. Come to me and find life."" -Carter, p. 181The Lion"How are we to drink this water? Although the offer is free and open to all, there are yet some terms to be met. C. S. Lewis in his children's novel The Silver Chair puts his finger on this in the clearest of terms. Jill, seeing a lion, is scared out of her wits and runs into the forest. She runs so hard that she wears herself out and is just about to die of thirst, or so she thinks, when she hears the gurgling of a brook in the distance. She approaches it and is almost ready to go to the brook when on the grass before her is the same lion."Are you not thirsty?" said the Lion."I'm dying of thirst," said Jill."Then drink, " said the Lion."May I— could I-would you mind going away while I do?" said Jill. The Lion answered this only by a look and a very low growl. And as Jill gazed at its motionless bulk, she realized that she might as well have asked the whole mountain to move aside for her convenience. The delicious rippling noise of the stream was driving her nearly frantic."Will you promise not to — do anything to me, if I do come?" said Jill."I make no promise,'" said the Lion.Jill was so thirsty now that, without noticing it, she had come a step nearer."Do you eat girls?" she said. "I have swallowed up girls and boys, women and men, kings and em-perors, cities and realms," said the Lion. It didn't say this as if it were boasting, nor as if it were sorry, nor as if it were angry. It just said it."I daren't come and drink," said Jill."Then you will die of thirst," said the Lion."Oh dear!" said Jill, coming another step nearer."I suppose I must go and look for another stream then.""There is no other stream," said the Lion.It never occurred to Jill to disbelieve the Lion —no one who had seen his stern face could do that-and her mind suddenly made itself up. It was the worst thing she had ever had to do, but she went forward to the stream, knelt down, and began scooping up water in her hand. It was the coldest, most refreshing water she had ever tasted.Do you see what Lewis is saying? When you come to the water, you are coming to a Lion, you must come on the Lion's terms, and you have to yield yourself by faith in order to get the water. Some of us need to realize that we are thirsty, that we need that water so badly that we are going to die without it. We need to step out on faith, yielding to the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and receive the water of eternal life.INVITATIONWhat about you?Are you paralyzed by the confusion, division and debate over who Jesus is and what he came to do?““Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it's all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. See how I used him to display my power among the peoples. I made him a leader among the nations. You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.” Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.”Isaiah 55:1-7 NLTPeter puts it all in perspective in his first sermon:““Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”” Acts 2:36-39 NIVHow do we respond? (Yes)Family can be the toughest mission fieldFamily misunderstands when they don't believe in the biblical JesusReligious leaders miss the leader of their religion due to their self-righteousness, ambition and unbelief"Christ did not want to bring division. But because of the sinfulness of our hearts, because of our fallenness, because of our unwillingness to repent and bow to him, the Prince of Peace is Christ the Divider. When snow descends upon the Continental Divide, it melts and flows off either to the west or to the east, never to meet again. Christ is the continental divide in our lives. We will either go up with the morning stars or, to use Eliot's phrase, join the valley of the dying stars. Christ brings division to everyday life." -Hughes, p. 226Water"On the seven days of the Feast, a golden flagon was filled with water from the pool of Siloam and was carried in a procession led by the High Priest back to the temple. As the procession approached the watergate on the south side of the inner court three blasts from the shôphar - a trumpet connected with joyful occasions - were sounded. While the pilgrims watched, the priests processed around the altar with the flagon, the temple choir singing the Hallel (Pss. 113 - 118). When the choir reached Psalm 118, every male pilgrim shook a lulab (willow and myrtle twigs tied with palm) in his right hand, while his left raised a piece of citrus fruit (a sign of the ingathered harvest), and all cried 'Give thanks to the LORD!' three times. The water was offered to God at the time of the morning sacrifice, along with the daily drink-offering (of wine). The wine and the water were poured into their respective silver bowls, and then poured out before the LORD. Moreover, these ceremonies of the Feast of Tabernacles were related in Jewish thought both to the LorD's provision of water in the desert and to the Lord's pouring out of the Spirit in the last days. Pouring at the Feast of Tabernacles refers symbolically to the messianic age in which a stream from the sacred rock would flow over the whole earth." -Carson, p. 321-322"In general terms, then, Jesus' pronouncement is clear: he is the fulfil-ment of all that the Feast of Tabernacles anticipated." -Carson, p. 322OUTLINESee aboveQUESTIONS TO CONSIDERWhat do I want them to know? Daily Voice Devotional with Niyi AdekunleThe Faith Framework 6Tuesday, 6th MayFrom the story of the persistent widow in Luke 18, Jesus asked an important question that is still relevant to us as believers today, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” The answer is yes—He will find people who believe in Him. But Jesus was referring to another kind of faith: the kind that believes in His finished work on the cross and stands firm until the promises of God are fully manifested. Many people, overwhelmed by life's challenges, have settled for mere survival, focusing only on making it to heaven while having little or nothing to show for their time on earth. It's important that we keep our hope not just for the things in heaven but reach out in faith for the things God has already made available for us on earth now. Remember, “God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” That means there are rewards to be received in this life as we persist in faith. Like the widow, we must know our rights in Christ and be willing to stand our ground. In Mark 10:28–30 (NLT) Peter asked Jesus, what reward would come from following Him:“Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake... will receive now in return a hundred times as many... along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.”This confirms that God blesses us both now and in eternity. The issue is not whether rewards exist—it's whether Jesus will find believers exercising the faith required to receive them. So, ask yourself: Do I have the kind of faith that stands until God's promises manifest? I pray you will do all you have to do to grow in that faith and receive all that Christ has made available for you in Jesus' Name.God bless you, enjoy your day.

Genesis 10:1-32 The Tower of Babel Genesis 11:1-4 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. (2) And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. (3) And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. (4) Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.“ ~2250 BC – about 100years after the Flood About 1000 to 10,000 people at this point One language. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. (7) Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech." (8) So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Phil continued the theme of his preach from last week, reminding us that God wants our hearts. The Clean Heart When David turned to God in repentance he was certain of the outcome that he would be clean and be whiter than snow [7] Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.51.7.NLT Our practice speak louder than our words and our practice reflects your heartEven though David sinned he still had a Heart after God so for him to turn to God was not difficult. Are there any practices you may need to change to reflect your heart towards God? Living a life of integrity, looks like this - you are honest and firm in your moral principles. What Integrity do you have ?What would others say about your Integrity ? Purity of heart is to Will that one thing”.
“What do you Expect – Power of Expectations” EXPECTATION “…My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10 NLT EXPECTATION Expectations, with the right heart, are the breeding ground of miracles FRUSTRATION DISAPPOINTMENT ANGER If we aren't careful, we could begin to project our frustration, disappointment, and anger towards God when He doesn't meet our expectations “JOHN THE BAPTIST, WHO WAS IN PRISON, HEARD ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THE MESSIAH WAS DOING. SO HE (JOHN) SENT HIS DISCIPLES TO ASK JESUS, ARE YOU THE MESSIAH WE'VE BEEN EXPECTING, OR SHOULD WE KEEP LOOKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE?” – Matthew 11:2-3 NLT “…are you the messiah we've been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Matthew 11:3 NLT What happens when you go one way but God goes another? GOD MAY NOT ALWAYS LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS, BUT HE WILL ALWAYS LIVE UP TO HIS WORD 1. Inspect Your Perspective PERSPECTIVE INFLUENCES EXPECTATION “Now while John the Baptizer was in prison…” Matthew 11:2 TPT “THEN JESUS WENT FROM GALILEE TO THE JORDAN RIVER TO BE BAPTIZED BY JOHN. BUT JOHN TRIED TO TALK HIM OUT OF IT ‘I AM THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO BE BAPTIZED BY YOU,' HE SAID, ‘SO WHY ARE YOU COMING TO ME?” Matthew 3:13-14 NLT Is this the guy?! “Lord if its you,” peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” Matthew 14:28 NLT “…Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward jesus. Force Multiplier: Something that dramatically increases one's impact Ephesians 3:20 (LB) // Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. Play it safe. 1 Samuel 17:32-33 (NLT) // “Don't worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I'll go fight him!” 33 “Don't be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There's no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You're only a boy, and he's been a man of war since his youth.” Am I Reasonable or Ridiculous? Acts 3:1-3 (NLT) // Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o'clock prayer service. 2 As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Expectation determines experience. Sometimes it's easier to exist than to expect. Acts 3:4-6 (NLT) // Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Acts 4:7-12 // They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, 9 are we being questioned today because we've done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.' 12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Acts 3:7-10 NLT // Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
"No, not seven times," Jesus replied, "but seventy times seven!" Matt 18:22 NLT Peter asks Jesus about the number of times he should forgive, and Jesus responds by emphasizing the need for unlimited forgiveness. Instead of forgiving someone merely seven times, Jesus instructs his followers to extend forgiveness seventy times seven, emphasizing the boundless and gracious nature of forgiveness. The Bible emphasizes that God is the ultimate model of forgiveness. God's forgiveness is seen as unconditional, merciful, and abundant. Scriptures such as Psalm 103:12 and Micah 7:18-19 highlight God's forgiveness, describing how He removes our sins from us and casts them into the depths of the sea. The Bible commands believers to forgive others just as God has forgiven them. Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:14-15 that if we forgive others, God will also forgive us, but if we withhold forgiveness, we cannot expect to receive forgiveness from God. Matthew 6:14-15: "For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Colossians 3:13: "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Luke 17:3-4: "Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,' you must forgive him." Mark 11:25: "And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses." Matthew 5:23-24: "So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift." Psalm 103:12: "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." Micah 7:18-19: "Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea."
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, ________ Ephesians 3:30 ESV Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. Ephesians 3:30 ESV “Don't be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king's table!”2 Samuel 9:7 NLT Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?” 2 Samuel 9:8 NLT But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Romans 8:13-17 NLT Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:4-5 NLT The gift of choice is God's greatest gift to us because this separates Christianity from being a religion to a relationship. So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” Luke 11:13 NLT You will not fully understand God's goodness and live a dynamic life here on earth without a relationship with Holy Spirit. Comfort “If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. John 14:15-17 NLT But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. 1 Corinthians 14:3 NLT Conviction And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world's sin is that it refuses to believe in me. Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. John 16:8-10 NLT Counsel When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. John 16:13 NLT If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. James 1:5 NLT Yet you do not have because you do not ask. James 4:2 NKJV Fellowship May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14 NLT Gifts And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose. Hebrews 2:4 NLT Fruit For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Ephesians 5:9 NLT "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one Another." John 13:34-35 NIV No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. 1 John 4:12 NLT Revealed Mysteries That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets. No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit, and no one can know God's thoughts except God's own Spirit. And we have received God's Spirit (not the world's spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 NLT Prayer Help And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 NLT Power I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NLT Liberty For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NLT Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Acts 2:38-39 NLT Repent Be water Baptized Receive the Holy Spirit
(Bilingual) このメッセージでは太助牧師が他の人に影響を与える方法について以下の2つのポイントから話します。 In this message Ps Tasuke talks about how you can influence others in these 2 points: (2サムエル 23:2 JCB) 主の霊は私を通して語られた。主のことばは私の舌にあった。 (2 Samuel 23:2 NLT) The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue. (使徒 1:8 JCB) しかし、聖霊があなたがたに下る時、あなたがたは大きな力を受け、エルサレムからユダヤ全土、そしてサマリヤから地の果てまで、わたしの死と復活を伝える証人となります。」 (Acts 1:8 NLT) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” その場にいた全員が聖霊に満たされた Everyone there was filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4 NLT) On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. (2) Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.(3) Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.(4) And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. (Acts 2:12-14 NLT) They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean?” they asked each other.(13) But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, “They're just drunk, that's all!”(14) Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. ペテロの大胆なことばに人々の心は強く打たれた Peter's bold preaching pierced the hearts of the people (Acts 2:37-38 NLT) Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”(38) Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (使徒 2:40-41 JCB) このあとも、ペテロの説教はえんえんと続きました。イエスのことや、悪に満ちたこの時代から救われなければならないことを、ことばを尽くして訴えたのです。(41) この日、ペテロの言うことを信じた人はバプテスマを受けましたが、その数は全部で三千人ほどでした。 (Acts 2:40-41 NLT) Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”(41) Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. 1. 聖霊の力によって私たちは大胆に語ることができる The Holy Spirit makes us BOLD to speak (2テモテ 1:7 JCB) 神が私たちに与えてくださったものは、おくびょうの霊ではなく、力と愛と慎みとの霊です。 (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2. 聖霊の力によって私たちは良い言葉(良い知らせ)を話すことができる The Holy Spirit makes us speak good words (Good News) (1コリント14:1,3 JCB) 愛を、最高の目標にしなさい。それと共に、聖霊が与えてくださる賜物、特に、神のことばを伝える預言の賜物を求めなさい。…しかし、神から託されたことばを語る者は、人々を励まし、慰め、人々の主にある成長を助けます。 (1 Corinthians 14:1,3 ERV) Love should be the goal of your life, but you should also want to have the gifts that come from the Spirit. And the gift you should want most is to be able to prophesy…(3) But those who prophesy are speaking to people. They help people grow stronger in faith, and they give encouragement and comfort.

Follow Today's reading: Isaiah 50-52 ; Psalm 92 : 2 Peter 1 NEED A CONFIDENCE BOOST? We are reading from the New Living Translation. Peter's experience on the Mount of Transfiguration filled him with confidence. He recalls the experience in II Peter 1:19 when he says: Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. hearing the voice of God built his confidence. What he heard was God's declaration of love for his son. God's voice broke out and said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him! (Mt 17:5 NLT) Peter still drawing confidence and comfort in this Word – this declaration of God's love for his son. Peter is drawing confidence from this experience because he is awakening to God's love for him. In John 17 Jesus says, I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. This was starting to happen for Peter, and he would let this truth continue to take root in his life. It was this knowledge and experience of God's love that gave him confidence to move forward, regardless of the circumstances. Have you experienced the love of the Father? Experiencing His love transforms us from the inside out. It gives us confidence and courage, to move forward. If you are feeling unconfident, thats ok, just listen to the words proclaimed over Jesus, “you are God's Child, and you are loved.” that seed will take some time to grow in your life, just as it did with Peter, But allow the Holy Spirit to nurture this reality in your life, and grow.

New Life Christian Center June 12, 2022 Pastor David Larson Miracles Deconstructed “Unstoppable Prayer” Acts 3-4 …upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. Matthew 16:18 (NLT) Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o'clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don't have any silver or gold for you. But I'll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man's feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded! They all rushed out in amazement to Solomon's Colonnade, where the man was holding tightly to Peter and John. Acts 3:1-11 (NLT) They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we've done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. Acts 4:7-10 (NLT) There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them.” Acts 4:12 (NLT) 1. Bold prayer recognizes that we are in God's MIGHTY HANDS. Then all the believers were united as they lifted their voices in prayer: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit… In fact, everything they did occurred according to your eternal will and plan. Acts 4:24-25 & 28 (NLT) 2. Pray with BOLDNESS. And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give your servants great boldness in their preaching. Acts 4:29 (NLT) 3. Bold prayer seeks for God to MOVE POWERFULLY. Send your healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts 4:30 (NLT) So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)

Sermon Sync Notes - May 22, 2022Acts: The Church - A Church for Everyone - Jon Furman Acts 10:1-2 (NLT)In Caesarea there lived a Roman army officer named Cornelius, who was a captain of the Italian Regiment. He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly to God. Acts 10:3-6a (NLT)One afternoon about three o'clock, he had a vision in which he saw an angel of God coming toward him. “Cornelius!” the angel said. Cornelius stared at him in terror. “What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering! Now send some men to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter. Acts 10:9a-14 (NLT)The next day as Cornelius's messengers were nearing the town, Peter went up on the flat roof to pray… He saw the sky open, and something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners. In the sheet were all sorts of animals, reptiles, and birds. Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat them.” “No, Lord,” Peter declared. “I have never eaten anything that our Jewish laws have declared impure and unclean.” Acts 10:15-16a & 19-20 (NLT)But the voice spoke again: “Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.” The same vision was repeated three times. Then the sheet was suddenly pulled up to heaven… Meanwhile, as Peter was puzzling over the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him, “Three men have come looking for you. Get up, go downstairs, and go with them without hesitation. Don't worry, for I have sent them.” Acts 10:24-26 (NLT)They arrived in Caesarea the following day. Cornelius was waiting for them and had called together his relatives and close friends. As Peter entered his home, Cornelius fell at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter pulled him up and said, “Stand up! I'm a human being just like you!” Acts 10:28-29 (NLT)Peter told them, “You know it is against our laws for a Jewish man to enter a Gentile home like this or to associate with you. But God has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean. So I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. Now tell me why you sent for me.” Acts 10:34-38 (NLT)Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right. This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee, after John began preaching his message of baptism. And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts 10:39-40a & 42 (NLT)“And we apostles are witnesses of all he did throughout Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him to life on the third day… And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. Acts 10:44-47 (NLT)Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God. Then Peter asked, “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” I Peter 5:5b-6 (NLT)…And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Let Humility draw you close to God. Let Humility draw Godly people close to you. Let Humility put you in your place.

MAY 1 - Acts: The Church DANIEL KNUTSON Matthew 28:16-20 (NIV)Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit... and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Author: Luke the Doctor Luke 1:3b-4 (NIV) …I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. Covers 30+ Years Acts 1:6-8 (NIV)Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 2:37-39 (NLT)Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?" Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 8:27b-39 (NIV)This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.”The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Acts 2:42 (NLT)All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. www.hopecitypdx.com/baptism COMMUNION Acts 2:42 (NLT)All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer.
Sermon Notes - May 1, 2022Acts: The Church - Introduction - Jon Furman Acts 2:2 (NLT)Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. Acts 2:5-6 (NLT)At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. Acts 2:37-39 (NLT)Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” “This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Acts 2:42 (NLT)All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. Acts 8:1&4 (NLT)A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria… But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. Acts 8:29-31 (NLT)The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him. Acts 8:35-37 (NLT)So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There's some water! Why can't I be baptized?” Deuteronomy 23:1 (NIV)“No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter into the assembly of the Lord.” Acts 8:38-40 (NLT)He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing. Meanwhile, Philip found himself farther north at the town of Azotus. He preached the Good News there and in every town along the way until he came to Caesarea. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. Celebrate Easter with Hope! Listen in for a message of grace, love, and hope as we retell the Easter story through the eyes of Peter and Jesus' other disciples. Message Notes:Many times in life, we find ourselves in situations we don't expect or don't know how to escape, but that is when we have a lifeline to the One who can save us, Jesus. Like many of us, Peter found himself in a boat he didn't want to be in, and he didn't know what to do. Luke 5:1-11 (NLT) This was the beginning of Peter's calling when he left the boat and his entire way of life to become a follower of Jesus. Mark 14:27-31 (NLT) When Jesus told His disciples about how He would be deserted, Peter protested that he would never deny Jesus even to the point of death. John 18:15-18, 25-27 (NLT) Peter denied knowing Jesus three times. Mark 14:71 (NLT) Peter swore and cursed that he didn't know Jesus. Luke 22:61-62 (NLT) Jesus looked at Peter, and Peter remembered what Jesus had said about denying Him. Peter was ashamed and wept bitterly. John 21:3 (NLT) Peter left to escape to his old life. John 21:3-13 (NLT) Jesus replicated the very first meeting with His followers. John 21:15-17, 19b (NLT) Jesus redeemed Peter by replacing his shame of denying Jesus three times with a new question asked three times. Instead of the memory of his failure, he gained forgiveness and a renewed mission. When we need to get out of the boat we are in, Jesus is the hand offering rescue. Christians are called to love each other deeply, but this is easier said than done. In this message, Ayren Nelson shares 3 characteristics of Christian love that can not only help you live up to this calling but also better understand God's love for you. Watch this message to find out what they are!Message Notes:As Americans, we have seen our world shift in the last few years. Christ followers used to make up the majority of the U.S. population, but now we find ourselves in the minority. What do we do? How do we live in a hostile world? This series will deal with how to counter the culture. Countercultural love loves unconditionally, in proximity, and sacrificially. 1 Peter 1:22 (NLT) Peter tells us that once we are cleansed of our sins and believe the truth of Jesus, we must sincerely and deeply love each other. John 13:35 (NLT) “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” Christ followers are called to love in these three countercultural ways:Unconditionally 1 Peter 4:8 (NLT) Psalm 103:1-14 (NLT)In Proximity Acts 10:24-28 (NLT) 1 Peter 3:8 (NLT)Sacrificially Matthew 5:46-47 (NLT) Matthew 5:48 (NLT)--- Save your seat at one of our upcoming Easter services at https://gethope.net/easter/ If you're new to Hope or looking to get connected, click here: https://gethope.net/nextsteps/ If you've just made a decision for Christ, please respond here: https://bit.ly/3aWvIZN To support this ministry financially to help us continue to love people where they are and encourage them to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, click here: https://gethope.net/give/ Stay Connected with Hope: Website: https://gethope.net/ Hope Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gethopecommunitychurch Hope Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/get_hope/ Hope Twitter: https://twitter.com/get_hope Hope YouTube: https://youtube.com/c/HopeCommunityChurch
Week Five: 04/03/2022 Title: The Joy in Failure Bible: Luke 15:11 – 32, “The Joy in Failure is not the Rebellion, but because of the Response to the Return.” ACT ONE - RUN/REBELLION Luke 15:11 – 16 (NLT) 11 To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: “A man had two sons. 12 The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.' So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons. 13 “A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. 14 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. 15 He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. 16 The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything. ACT TWO - RETURN/REPENTANCE Luke 15:17- 24 (NLT) 17 “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, 19 and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.” ' 20 “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.' 22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.' So the party began. ACT THREE - RESPONSE/REJOICE Luke 15:25 – 31 (NLT) 25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, 26 and he asked one of the servants what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother is back,' he was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.' 28 “The older brother was angry and wouldn't go in. His father came out and begged him, 29 but he replied, ‘All these years I've slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. 30 Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!' 31 “His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours. 32 We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!' ” What areas of your life have you been on the RUN? Proverbs 18:10 (NLT) 10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. Where will you be when there is a RETURN? Romans 15:13 (NLT) 13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Who are you when it comes to RESPONSE? The Younger Brother Acts 2:38 (NLT) Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Father Romans 2:4 (NLT) 4 Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? The Older Brother Matthew 23:28 (NLT) 28 Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness. Luke 15:7 (NLT) 7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!
(English) In this message Ps Rod talks about how God restored Peter in these 3 points: (1 Peter 5:10 NIV) And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (Matthew 4:21 NIV) Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them (Matthew 26:33 NLT) Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you. (Matthew 26:73-75 NIV) After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.” (74) Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don't know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. (75) Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly. (Mark 16:7 NIV) But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.'” Peter's 3-Part Therapy session with Jesus: 1. Restored in Jesus' Love and Power (John 21:1-13 NIV) Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[a] It happened this way: (2) Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[b]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. (3) “I'm going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We'll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. (4) Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. (5) He called out to them, “Friends, haven't you any fish?” “No,” they answered. (6) He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. (7) Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. (8) The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[c] (9) When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. (10) Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” (11) So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. (12) Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. (13) Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 2. Restored in Facing Challenges (John 21:14-17 NIV) his was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. (15) When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” (16) Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” (17) The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 3. Restored in Fresh Vision
Simon: Listen Or Hearing. Cephas/Peter: Rock or Stone. You gotta “Simon” to be “Peter”. 13 When Jesus came to the area of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his followers, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They answered, “Some say you are John the Baptist. Others say you are Elijah, and still others say you are Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 Then Jesus asked them, “And who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus answered, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because no person taught you that. My Father in heaven showed you who I am. 18 So I tell you, you are Peter.[a] On this rock I will build my church, and the power of death will not be able to defeat it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; the things you don't allow on earth will be the things that God does not allow, and the things you allow on earth will be the things that God allows.” -Matthew 16:13-19 NCV You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God's temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What's more, you are his holy priests… -1 Peter 2:4-5 NLT But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. -1 Peter 2:9 NLT Peter said, “Everyone else may stumble in their faith because of you, but I will not.” Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, tonight before the rooster crows you will say three times that you don't know me.” ------Matthew 26:33-34 NCV 15 When they finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”17 A third time he said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” Peter said, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you!” He said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 I tell you the truth, when you were younger, you tied your own belt and went where you wanted. But when you are old, you will put out your hands and someone else will tie you and take you where you don't want to go.” 19 (Jesus said this to show how Peter would die to give glory to God.) Then Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me!” -John 21:15-19 NCV When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. -Acts 4:13 NIV Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. -Acts 5:14-15 NIV His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. -2 Peter 1:3-4 NIV For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” -2 Peter 1:16 NIV
Isaiah 1:19,NKJV- “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;”MSG- If you willingly obey, you'll feast like a king. Living inspired starts with with a willing heart. Like we said last week, our Father is waiting for each of us to take the next step in the life He's already seen we could have. What if we started each day with the expectation that today's gonna be one of the days He's already seen. We've got to stay open to the reality that there's something God wants to accomplish through each of His children. And according to Acts 10:34,NLT- Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism.” We are a chosen generation of royalty, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. At the end of the day, it simply comes down to those willing and obedient. Remember last week, “I call heaven and earth as witness to the choice you make.” This is why Paul tells us to make the most of every opportunity. Here's the deal, living inspired means there will be times we have to step out beyond our own abilities and Trust, Delight, Commit. Psalm 37:3-5,NKJV- Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. This truth is possibly one of the greatest faith builders God left for us.And make no mistake, there's no other way of discover or living an inspired life outside of faith. Maybe the best we I can describe faith is our positive response to what God has already provided for us by grace. There is absolutely nothing that can replace time in God's word, it's where we discover our new lives He's designed for each of us. And hands down the Joshua 1:8 principle is the key component in our success in an inspired life. Joshua 1:8,AMP- This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, you shall read, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. And since we are these chosen people, fearfully and wonderfully made, the seed of Abraham and heirs according to the promise. God plans is to use each of our lives to be a testimony of His blessing. Genesis 12:2-3,NKJV- “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” You gotta love how God prophesied Abraham's life to him. Galatians 3, You must know that only those who are in Christ are sons of Abraham. Christ redeemedus so that the blessing of Abraham might come on us, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” And it all started with God giving Abraham one simple step of faith, “go where I'm telling you.” And it may sound over simple, but Jesus is asking us the same thing today. Simply Trust, Delight, Commit. Go where I'm telling you, do what I'm asking you, one step at a time, one day at a time, one inspired life at a time. Remember, I will bless you and make you great so that you will be a blessing! This is why our faith is so important. Jude 20, Beloved, build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith, continually progressing, rising higher and higher. Ultimately, because of who God has made us, we have to take our God ordained lives and exercise our influence. And here's the deal, according to the apostle Paul, “its according to the power that works in us.” I believe this is Isaiah's point, If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land Ephesians 3:20,NKJV- Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. As I'm putting this talk together, meditating on these revelations from God's Spirit, I can't help but wonder how many of us find ourselves following logic instead of God? Kinda like baptism, think about it, being dunked in some water, in the natural… come on. But spiritually, according to Jesus it's an eternal statement for every believer. God knows each of us, exactly where we are, what we're going through, and He's still got great plans for everyone of us. But, as long as we're okay living without more of God in our lives, we will. But the moment we start talking steps of faith toward God, the more inspired our lives become. Listen to Paul's prayer for us out of Ephesians; That we embrace the Spirit of wisdom and revelation That we know the hope of His callingThat we walk in the greatness of His power Remember, living inspired starts with a willing heart. Living inspired means there will be times we have to step out beyond our own abilities and trust, delight and commit our way to Him. This is why God told us He would bless us and make us great, so we will be a blessing! He doesn't show favoritism or partiality to anyone. The Joshua principle isn't some religious, legalistic suggestion, it's spiritual law. Joshua 1:8,AMP- This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, you shall read, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. Deuteronomy 28:13,NKJV- “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” Since God has called each of us, according to Joshua and Deuteronomy, He hasn't called any of us to failure. The inspired life is a success life. John 10:10,AMP- “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance, to the full, till it overflows.”So, TRUST IN THE LORDDELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORDCOMMIT YOUR WAY TO THE LORD
Sermon Notes: Acts 2:42 Series: Acts Title: The First Steps of a New Church Date: 9/12/21 Location: The Fairgrounds at Lake Perris ISAIAH, PLEASE COME AND SEE ME BEFORE SERVICE FOR ANY EDITS TO THESE SLIDES. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!!! Acts 2:38,41 (NLT) Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. Acts 2:42 (NLT) 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. A true, bible-believing, Jesus-following church must be a dedication to sound doctrine. John 7:16 (NIV) Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. Acts 1:13-14 (NLT) When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James). 14 They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus. John 14:25-26 (NLT) I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. 26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. Ephesians 4:11-12 (NLT) Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 2 Timothy 4:3 (NLT) For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. Acts 2:42 (NLT) 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. If the church is not a building, but rather the people, the church MUST be dedicated to each other. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT) Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 1 John 1:7 (NLT) But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NLT) Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14 (NKJV) Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? Acts 2:42 (NLT) All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. Acts 2:44-46 (NLT) 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity While together, the congregation of the church must be dedicated to remembering the sacrifice Jesus made. 1 Corinthians 10:16 (NLT) When we bless the cup at the Lord's Table, aren't we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren't we sharing in the body of Christ? Acts 2:42 (NLT) 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. Acts 2:42-47 (NLT) 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. A new church must be dedicated to cooperate prayer. Acts 12:5 (NLT) But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him. Philippians 4:6 (NLT) Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Colossians 4:2 (NLT) Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Reading from The Gospel According Matthew 16:13-20 (NLT) ~Peter's Declaration about Jesus~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. People not knowing what to expect. The things people come up with to make sense of what they see and experience. God brings the revelation. The rock of revelation is Jesus, the cornerstone, and the capstone. Jesus is the Gate, the keys to the kingdom is the revelation that Jesus is the Messiah. We have the awesome role to play in bringing people to the gate.
Perris Valley Church 8.2.21 Acts 1:11 What an Apostle Acts Like Acts 1:1-11 (NLT) In my first book I told you, Theophilus, about everything Jesus began to do and teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:3 (NIV) Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, 1.The Holy Spirit is God Living in You. John 14:26 (NLT) But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. Romans 8:26 (ESV) Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Acts 2:38 (NLT) Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. John 14:15-17 (ESV) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. Mark 16:19 (NLT) When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. Acts 1:3-5 (NLT) During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 2.There is significant Proof that Jesus rose from the Dead. John 20:19 (NLT) That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. John 21:1-9 (NLT) Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened. 2 Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples. 3 Simon Peter said, “I'm going fishing.” “We'll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. 4 At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn't see who he was. 5 He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. 6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you'll get some!” So they did, and they couldn't haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. 7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It's the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic, jumped into the water, and headed to shore. 8 The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore 1 Corinthians 15:3-9 (NLT) I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him. 9 For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I'm not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God's church. Acts 1:6-7 (NLT) So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” 7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. Even the most mature followers of Jesus are not on the same page as Jesus. Isaiah 32:15-20 (NLT) until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven. Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops. 16 Justice will rule in the wilderness and righteousness in the fertile field. 17 And this righteousness will bring peace. Yes, it will bring quietness and confidence forever. 18 My people will live in safety, quietly at home. They will be at rest. 19 Even if the forest should be destroyed and the city torn down, 20 the Lord will greatly bless his people. Wherever they plant seed, bountiful crops will spring up. Their cattle and donkeys will graze freely. Acts 8-11 (NLT) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. 10 As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!” 4.Jesus always leaves a few instructions, but never leaves all the answers. Revelation 1:7 (NLT) Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen! 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 (NLT) Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don't really need to write you. 2 For you know quite well that the day of the Lord's return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. 3 When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman's labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.

Sermon Notes - August 1, 2021 The Greatest Stories Rarely Told: Uncommon Humility, Part 1 - Acts 10 (NLT) - Jon Furman Sacrificial GenerosityRadical HospitalityUncommon Humility Philippians 2:5-8You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. “He humbled himself…” Even though Jesus was above everything, nothing was beneath him. Acts 10:1-2 (NLT)In Caesarea there lived a Roman army officer named Cornelius, who was a captain of the Italian Regiment. He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly to God. Acts 10:3-6 (NLT)One afternoon about three o'clock, he had a vision in which he saw an angel of God coming toward him. “Cornelius!” the angel said. Cornelius stared at him in terror. “What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering! Now send some men to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter. He is staying with Simon, a tanner who lives near the seashore.” Acts 10:9-14 (NLT)The next day as Cornelius's messengers were nearing the town, Peter went up on the flat roof to pray. It was about noon, and he was hungry. But while a meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw the sky open, and something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners. Acts 10:39-40a & 42-43 (NLT) “And we apostles are witnesses of all he did throughout Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him to life on the third day… And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”Acts 10:44-47 (NLT)Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. Let Humility draw you close to God Let Humility draw Godly people close to you Let Humility put you in your place

The Message of Repentance Acts 2:36-41 36 "So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!" 37 Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" 38 Peter replies, "Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to show that you have received forgiveness for your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you and to your children, and even to the Gentiles - all who have been called by the Lord our God. 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation!" 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day - about 3,000 in all. Repentance is a Message of John the Baptist Matthew 3:1-2 (NLT) In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was, "Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." Matthew 3:8 (NLT) Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Repentance is a Message of Jesus Matthew 4:17 (NLT) From then on Jesus began to preach, "Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." Luke 13:3 (NLT) Not at all! And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God. Repentance is a Message of the Disciples Mark 6:12 (NLT) So the disciples went out, telling everyone they met to repent of their sins and turn to God. Luke 24:47 (NLT) It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.' Repentance is a Message of the Apostle Peter Acts 2:38 (NLT) Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to show that you have received forgiveness for your sins. Then you will receie the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 3:19 (NLT) Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Repentance is a Message of the Apostle Paul Acts 26:20 (NLT) I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that all must repent of their sins and turn to God - and prove they have changed by the good things they do. Acts 17:30 (NLT) "God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. Repentance is a Message of Revelation Revelation 2:5 (NLT) Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don't repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches. Revelation 9:20-21 (NLT) But the peoiple who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood - idols that can niether see no hear nor walk! And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft of their sexual immorality or their thefts. Conclusion: Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT) Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Sacred Space at Home Week 3 (July 29th) Welcome: Welcome to Sacred Space at Home, a resource from Vineyard Church of New Orleans! We’re so glad you have decided to join us in this time of worship and reflection. Today we will meditate on Acts Chapter 3. Wherever you may find yourself in this moment, try and make space to listen and experience the presence of God as we pray, hear the words of scripture, and sing together. As we begin, we open our minds and hearts and say, “Come, Holy Spirit.” Song of Awareness We’ll All Be Free by William Matthews There's a world at war Caught in suffering Silent casualties Oh God, grant us peace In these sleepless nights I can hardly breathe Despite brutality I know that we'll be free I know that we'll be free So let the light in, keep it shining Let it break into the darkness All the love dares us to see We'll all be free In these desperate times Love will hold us here Love will join our hands Teach us to have no fear So we lay our hate down To wash their feet When we see our brother Oh, we'll all be free Yes, we'll all be free We'll be free (free), free (free) We'll all be free Tell your sister, tell your brother Tell your father, tell your mother Tell yourselves, tell everyone We'll all be free Tell the lovers, tell the haters Tell the prisoners, tell the jailers Tell the world, tell everyone We'll all be free Scripture Reading (Acts 3:1-10 NLT) Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. Reflection As you hear this passage, what comes to mind? Can you think of a time you experienced God at work outside the walls of the Church? The Spirit opens our eyes to see all people as beloved children of God. Where might the Spirit be opening your eyes to see in this moment? God takes ordinary acts of compassion, generosity, and love, and turns them into extraordinary miracles for the sake of the world around us. How might the Spirit be inviting you to extend a hand for the sake of God’s kingdom today? As you reflect on this invitation, what things may be keeping you from listening to the Spirit more fully? Take this time to ask God to give you the courage to experience and be transformed by the Spirit today. We’ll All Be Free (Reprise) Benediction “As we conclude our time together, may you continue to be aware of the presence of God and seek to find sacred spaces throughout the day.” Let us pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.”
Reading from Acts of the Apostles 4:1-22 NLT ~ Peter and John before the Council ~ Scripture reading followed by discussion.
Answer ONE Acts 3:1-11 Dr. Mike Decker Big Idea: God invites us to be His hands and feet. 1. God’s invitations are often experienced during the daily rhythms of life. Acts 3:1-3 (NLT) Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. 2. God’s invitations often necessitate an open-mindedness. Acts 3:4-6 (NLT) Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” ❖ Don’t let a lack of resources keep you from: a. Being available. b. Engaging people. c. Offering something. ❖ Homework Assignment: Trust God and step in. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/palmharvest/message
Have you ever found yourself backed into a corner? It’s the hard way to learn the world isn’t what we thought it was or doesn’t work like we want it to. And this is an old tale. Sometimes we learn it easy and sometimes we learn it hard. Peter, a disciple of Jesus, learned a bunch of lessons. And over the next couple of weeks we are going to talk about what might be the hardest one. But this was a lesson he had to go through in order to become the person he was called to be. Simon Peter asked, “Lord, where are you going?” And Jesus replied, “You can’t go with me now, but you will follow me later.” “But why can’t I come now, Lord?” he asked. “I’m ready to die for you.” Jesus answered, “Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter—before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me. John 13:36-38 NLT Peter was willing to follow Jesus anywhere, but on his own terms. The problem was Peter’s terms couldn’t provide what was needed. In this case, it was Jesus dying for the whole world. Jesus confronted Peter’s worldview and told him it wasn’t even big enough for himself, much less the whole world. So let’s get into the big story together.

November 3, 2013 Peter Stories Series What Are You Talking About? Mark 8:27-33 Synopsis: This is my second sermon in a series on what I call the Peter Stories. In Mark 8:27-33 is the telling of Peter’s great confession that Jesus was the Messiah. In Matthew 16:13-23, NLT there is a more expanded confession, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” In Luke 9:18-22, NLT Peter’s response is “You are the Messiah sent from God!” In all three of these references Peter’s confession is followed by Jesus’ declaration concerning what lay ahead for him including his death. Matthew and Mark tell of Peter taking Jesus aside and rebuking Him and then being rebuked by Jesus. Matthew and Mark juxtapose (sets side by side) Peter’s confession and commendation with that of Peter’s rebuke of Jesus and then by Jesus. Mark seems to do present these two events within a single telling thus bringing the question full circle back to where it started. I paraphrase the question to ask, “What are you talking about?” Mark expands it in Jesus’ words and prompts a deeply troubling question, “Do you have in mind the concerns of God, or merely human concerns?” It is very easy for us to be side tracked into very human concerns at the expense of Godly concerns. We see the bits and pieces of our experiences as if they were the whole picture (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). They are not! They are simply pieces of the collage of life only God can see the whole.
