“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” (Ephesians 2:8–9 NLT) There will be good people in Hell. When I say, “good people,” I mean people who trusted in their own human efforts, people who trusted in their own personal reality, and people who trusted in the religious things they did. Jesus issued a very clear warning in Matthew 7:22: “On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name’” (NLT). If we updated the passage, the people might say, “Lord, Lord, we were baptized in Your name and received communion in Your name.” But the answer still would be the same. “But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws’” (verse 23 NLT). These are good people Jesus is talking to. These people paid their taxes. These people recycled and put the right trash in the right can. These people drove Priuses and ate kale and didn’t damage the environment. They’re good people. They’re just not nearly good enough. That’s why the apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:8–9, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it” (NLT). Jesus never said that if you live a good life, you’ll go to Heaven. But here’s what Jesus did say: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NLT). He doesn’t want us to work ourselves to exhaustion, trying to be good enough to earn salvation. He wants to give us rest and assurance. He wants us to accept the gift of eternal life He offers. For people with a mature faith, this is a simple review. A chance to celebrate God’s mercy—that is, His kindness and compassion—and His grace—that is, His undeserved favor. But it’s also a reminder that there are people—people you know—who believe that their good works are good enough for God. People who believe that because their good outweighs their bad, they will be welcomed into Heaven. People who believe that growing up in a Christian home and attending church make them Christians. People who will be stunned to hear Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:23. People who need a mature believer to help them understand what it means to make a personal commitment to Christ: to confess that they’re not good enough to earn salvation, to turn away from their sin, and to accept Him as Savior and Lord. You can be that mature believer. You can share the gospel truth. You can help them see the futility of trying to earn salvation through good works. You can point them to Jesus’ sacrifice—the gift of God that makes salvation possible. The question is, will you? Reflection Question: How can you share God’s truth with someone who believes they’re a good person? HERE'S WHY THAT MATTERS: …it answers one of the most important questions people have “If mortals die, can they live again? This thought would give me hope, and through my struggle I would eagerly wait for release.” Job 14:14 NLT IT'S IMPORTANT BECAUSE: …It proves there is life after death “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me-that Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the third day, as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles. After that, He was seen by more than five hundred of His followers at one time…” 1 Corinthians 15: 3-6 NLT “For we are not making up clever stories when we told you about the power of our Lord Jesus Christ and His coming again. We have seen His majestic splendor with our own eyes.” 2 Peter 1:16 NLT “But tell me this- since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ was not raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your trust in God is useless…but the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead.” 1 Corinthians 15:12-14, 20 NLT …it shows what life after death is like “But the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again.” 1 Corinthians 15:20 NLT “…and we can't even imagine what we will be like when Christ returns. But we do know that when He comes we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He really is.” 1 John 3:2 NLT “Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 NLT “Don't be surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God's Son, and they will rise again.” John 5:28-29 NLT “Why are you frightened? He asked. “Why do you doubt who I am? Look at My hands. Look at My feet. You can see that it's really Me. Touch Me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don't have bodies, as you see I do!”…Still they stood there doubting, filled with joy and wonder. Then He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of broiled fish, and He ate it as they watched.” Luke 24: 38-40, 41-43 NLT “There are bodies in the heavens, and there are bodies on earth. The glory of the heavenly bodies is different from the beauty of the earthly bodies.” 1 Corinthians 15:40 NLT “When this happens-when our perishable earthly bodies have been transformed into heavenly bodies, that will never die-then at last the Scriptures will come true: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory…'” 1 Corinthians 15:54 NLT “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 NLT …it shows the price paid for our eternal life “For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. How we thank God, who gives us the victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord!” 1 Corinthians 15:56 NLT “But He was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NLT You can't afford it, but you must receive it. In one sense it doesn't cost us anything to come to Christ…in another sense it costs us everything.
Pastor David Morrison Hebrews 4:12-16 (NLT)- There was a pattern in the Old Testament where God rescues His people, and they say that they would return to their past of worshipping other gods, and then they would be separated from God. It was a continuous cycle.- It seems ridiculous. The author of Hebrews says not to make the same mistake. Hebrews 3:12 (NLT)- When things get hard, who or what is the authority that we allow to shape our lives?- What God has healed me from I no longer am.- Here is why we don't turn back. It matters where we find our source and who is holding us accountable. Hebrews 4:12-13 (NLT)- To those tempted to turn back to something, the writer of Hebrews reminds us that only one can judge and see clearly.- If you are trying to return to a form of legalism, only one thing can expose your innermost thoughts and motivations—Jesus. It's not Moses, it's not the law, it's nothing else! Hebrews 4:14 (NLT)- Another translation says, Stand Firm.- What does it mean when it says that Jesus is the high priest?- We no longer need a high priest to offer sacrifice, instead we have a perfect one, Jesus who faced all the temptations of this world and never faltered.- So, the thing that influences your life and that you would normally look back on…stands the call to STAND FIRM.- Stand firm means no retreating. God is calling you to let the good things remain in the past, so that you can experience greater things. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)- Come boldly to the throne.- This place held the ark of the covenant, called the holy of holies.- It was past the outer courts, and there was a place called the Holy Place, where offerings were given, a lamp with seven candles (a menorah), and a Holy of Holies…separated by a veil.- When Christ died, the veil that kept people from God's presence was torn. We no longer needed a human high priest because Jesus was the great high priest now! He would intercede with the Father on our behalf…and now we have an invitation to come boldly before the throne of God.Here is an invitation to press into God's presence in His most holy place, where the only light needed is His presence. This is a place where grace and mercy are found. But here is where I feel tension. It's like we know we can step into God's presence, but to do that, I need to let go of things in my life.
March 09 2025 Sunday Your Words Matter / Week 05 / T. Stacy Hayes #findoutwhoyouare My Vision My vision is to teach the world Who They Are In Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! To Teach them what the Bible says about them and who they have been made to be in the promises of God's Word. This changed my life years ago and completely transformed me from a person full of doubt, fear and unbelief to a strong confident Christian that knows I can do anything through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. And I'm determined to teach the world what God has taught and commissioned me to teach and that is His Word. That commission takes me to jails and detention centers weekly along with other open doors at many churches and ministries that are wanting to teach these important truths to the world. My podcast goes out 6 days a week to help the people I am ministering to grow in the truths that God has taught me for many years now. “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” (James 1:2 NLT) There are certain passages of Scripture that make you say, “Huh?” James 1:2 is a prime example. It almost defies logic. Doesn’t it seem natural for our circumstances to dictate our response? It’s just input and output, isn’t it? If we’re dealt personal troubles, the obvious responses are anger, frustration, and anxiety. If we experience a betrayal, the logical response is bitterness. If the input is disappointment, the output is sadness. Right? Not according to James 1:2. “When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” If that seems like a weird thing to say to a suffering person, look more closely. James isn’t saying enjoy it when you suffer. And he’s not saying that troubles are joy because they’re not. Hebrews 12:11 tells us, “No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful!” (NLT). James is saying when you’re confronted by difficult situations, make the choice to rejoice. Jesus set the ultimate example for us in this area. Hebrews 12:2 says, “Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame” (NLT). Joy? What joy? Jesus was scoured with a whip thirty-nine times. His beard was ripped from His face. He was punched countless times by Roman soldiers. He had a crown of thorns pressed into His scalp. After losing a tremendous amount of blood, He was forced to carry a heavy crossbeam to the site of His crucifixion. He had spikes driven through His wrists and feet. Can you find the joy in this picture? Jesus could. The joy was you. The joy was me. Jesus knew what His suffering and death on the cross would accomplish. He came to this world to be a suffering Savior, to bear our sins, to die in our place, and then to rise again from the dead. Instead of focusing on the misery and pain of His immediate circumstances, He saw the joy in the big picture. He made the choice to rejoice. Paul and Silas made the same choice when they sang praises to God after they’d been thrown in a Roman jail for preaching the gospel (see Acts 16:25–40). They didn’t give in to self-pity, fear, or anger behind bars. Instead, they counted it a privilege to suffer for their faith. They understood that God was doing something bigger, and they rejoiced that they were able to play a part in His plan. You can do the same thing. If you’re going through a time of trial right now, rejoice. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to or don’t feel like it. Rejoice. Why? Because God is in control. He knows what you’re experiencing. Rejoice because God is working your situation for His purposes. If you’re struggling in a relationship, rejoice. God may be strengthening your bond. Or He may be giving you clarity about what your next step should be. Whatever the case, know that He is aligning your relationship with His will. No matter what you’re going through, it will work together for God’s glory and ultimately for your good. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (NLT). God is in control, so we can make the choice to rejoice. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
‘Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.’ (Revelation 22:12 NLT) There were a lot of people who missed the first Christmas, the night that Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem. Of course, there were no the telltale signs that we have today. There were no Christmas carols, brightly colored lights, or sales at the local market. Yet the first Christmas had its own signs that were being fulfilled before the eyes of the people, because the Hebrew prophets had foretold the arrival of a Savior. However, in the twenty-first century, we would be hard-pressed to miss Christmas. We can’t miss the fact that Christmas is upon us. People today have a better idea of how to prepare for a Christmas celebration than how to prepare for the return of Jesus Christ. But Jesus Christ, who was born in the manger in Bethlehem, who was crucified on the cross of Calvary and rose from the dead, is coming back again. And we don’t want to miss that. He came right on schedule the first time, and He will come right on schedule the second time. Jesus said, “Yes, I am coming soon!” (Revelation 22:20 NLT). And the answer of the true Christian will always be, along with the apostle John, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” What’s more, anything that would prevent us from saying the same thing is out of place in our lives. We are not only to be waiting, but we are also to be working. Jesus said, “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward” (Luke 12:42–43 NLT). If watching is the evidence of faith, then working is the evidence of faith in action. Watching for the Lord’s return will help us prepare our own lives, but working will assure that we bring others with us. We should be serving the Lord and looking for opportunities to engage people and tell them about Jesus. Jesus also said, “The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat!” (verse 37 NLT). The word blessed could be translated as “happy.” Looking for the return of Christ isn’t a miserable, repressive, confining way to live. It’s a happy, joyful, and purposeful way to live. Christmas is coming. The signs are all around us. Of course, Christmas will come, and Christmas will go. And before long, we’ll forget about the gifts that we received. But Jesus Christ is coming back again. People missed the first Christmas. But we don’t want to miss it when Jesus Christ comes back again. He is coming for those who are watching and waiting. So, don’t just be ready for Christmas. Be ready for Christ Himself. It is not about Christmas presents; it’s about His holy presence in our lives. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words! (2 Corinthians 9:15 NLT) There are gifts that you may receive this year that soon will be out of date or out of fashion. Some gifts, however, only grow in value over time. Maybe it's a family heirloom that you received a long time ago, and it has become even more precious to you now. God has given us a gift, and it never goes out of style. It's the gift of all gifts: salvation. If you are a Christian, then you already carry this gift in your heart. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (NLT). While this gift brings with it the hope of Heaven and the hope of eternal life, there are aspects of it that we can enjoy now. One of them is justification. The Bible says, “Since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us” (Romans 5:1 NLT). The word justify has a twofold meaning. First, it carries the idea of the forgiveness of all our sin. Maybe you've been mulling over your sin and you're troubled by it. If you have asked God to forgive you of that sin and have repented of it, then He has forgiven you. God has forgiven you of every sin that you have confessed and turned from. Accept that. Often we dig up those sins, go over them again and again, and beat ourselves up over them. Yet God says, “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins” (Hebrews 8:12 NLT). Here's what we need to know: We should not choose to remember what God has chosen to forget. God has forgiven our sins. That is part of the gift that God has given to each of us. But there is also the positive side of justification. When God justifies us, He places the righteousness of Christ in our account. That balances the moral and spiritual budget for us. We are declared righteous. This is not a gradual process; it's something that happens immediately when we put our faith in Jesus Christ. And there is even more. Not only has God justified us, not only has He forgiven our sins and placed the righteousness of Christ into our account, but He also has adopted us into His family. By adopting us, God is saying, “Don't merely stand in awe of Me. Come close to Me. I want you to be My child. You have access to Me anytime.” What a great joy to know that we have been adopted into God's family. If all there was as a Christian was this life we have now with Jesus, it still would be worth it to be a Christian. But that isn't all there is. It will get even better. The afterlife will be better than the “before life.” The best is yet to come. That is God's gift to you. Open it. Enjoy it. Love it. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” (Genesis 2:18 NLT) There is an epidemic of loneliness sweeping our nation. Social media hasn't made us more sociable. It's made us less sociable and more dysfunctional. It seems like many of us don't even know how to have a conversation with each other anymore. I read that millennials prefer texting over talking in person. And I think we've forgotten how to interact with one another. Research reveals that more than one-third of adults struggle with loneliness. And loneliness and isolation create health risks, including anxiety, depression, and illnesses such as heart disease and dementia.[1] Yet they have found that one or two friendships can dramatically decrease loneliness. An article on the Vox News site stated that 12 percent of Americans have no close friendships, compared with 3 percent in 1990.[2] The article concluded that we, as a society, have atomized. We're working, shopping, and socializing online. Our phones have become the primary portal through which we view the outside world. That's not good. We're missing something vital in our lives. We all need living, breathing friends, not anonymous people we play video games with across the planet. Not people who comment on our posts. We need human interaction. We're not meant to do life alone. God created us this way. In Genesis, after God made so many amazing things, He said, “This is good.” But when he saw the aloneness of man, God said, “This isn't good.” So, He created Eve. The same holds true today. It's not good for any of us to be alone. We need friends. Not casual acquaintances but people who give us priority in their lives. People who care about what happens to us. People who want the best for us. People who will speak the truth to us in love. Perhaps the best-known friendship in the Bible is the one between David and Jonathan, as recorded in 1 and 2 Samuel. They were loyal to each other. They looked out for each other. They risked their lives for each other. Not even the murderous rage of Jonathan's father, Saul, toward David could interfere with their friendship. Where can such friends be found today? You may be surprised to learn that several potential close friends are already in your circle of acquaintances. And the way to find a Jonathan among them is to be a David. Model the kind of friendship you're looking for. Take the initiative to deepen your casual conversations. Ask questions. Show concern. Offer encouragement, support, and a listening ear. Share some personal things of your own. Make yourself vulnerable. Be patient through the awkward stages. Learn to enjoy each other's company. And pray. Ask God to help you be the kind of friend who makes a difference in other people's lives. And ask Him to bring difference-making friends into your life. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. (Ephesians 2:7–8 NLT) There will be good people in Hell. That's a sobering thought, isn't it? Of course, when I say “good” people, I mean people who trusted in their own human efforts, people who trusted in their own personal reality, people who trusted in the religious things they did. Jesus warned, “On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name'” (Matthew 7:22 NLT). If we updated the passage, the people might say, “Lord! Lord! We were baptized in Your name. We received communion in Your name.” But Jesus' reply is the same: “I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws” (verse 23 NLT). These are good people. They paid their taxes. They recycled and put the right trash in the right can and did their best not to damage the environment. They volunteered at soup kitchens and donated to food drives. They did everything right. But they're still not good enough. No one is. No amount of good deeds can erase our guilt before God. If they could, we would have something to boast about. Our salvation would be a do-it-yourself project. We could stand back and admire our spiritual handiwork. Eternal life would be something we earned. Eternal life is possible only because of God's mercy and grace. He sent His Son to die in our place—not because we're good people, but because He loves us, even though we're helpless sinners. We are saved through faith in Christ, not through good works. That's not to say that good works play no role in a Christian's life. True, they're useless in our salvation. Isaiah 64:6 says, “When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags” (NLT). After we're saved through grace, however, our good deeds are purified by Jesus. They become evidence of His work in our lives. Good works show others that our faith is alive. James wrote, “So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now, someone may argue, ‘Some people have faith; others have good deeds.' But I say, ‘How can you show me your faith if you don't have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds'” (James 2:17–18 NLT). — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Pastor John Ryan Cantu brings this week's message, “Alone." Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:3-4 NLT: “Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”” 1 Kings 19:9-18 NLT: “There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied again, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.” Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint Hazael to be king of Aram. Then anoint Jehu grandson of Nimshi to be king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet. Anyone who escapes from Hazael will be killed by Jehu, and those who escape Jehu will be killed by Elisha! Yet I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!”” Sermon Topics: Loneliness, Community, Support If you enjoyed the podcast, please subscribe and share it with your friends on social media. Pastor Dale Benson Matthew 5:7 (NLT) - This is not a verse about Karma. This is not a sort of "what goes around comes around." "The Universe always pays you back." These sentiments are not what this verse is articulating. - This verse is a pithy saying that points to a much larger teaching by Jesus. Matthew 18:21-35 (NLT) Matthew 6:14 (NLT) - God's mercy to us is undeserved. We do not show mercy to others because they deserve it. If they deserved it, it would not be mercy. You have been shown great mercy. God has made forgiveness available to you for everything you have ever done. I am afraid that at times we have taken some verses in the Bible and made them the be-all/end-all of a short, easy way to have all your sins forgiven and receive salvation. These verses do seem to say that God expects something out of us. For mercy and forgiveness from Him, He expects us to show mercy and forgiveness to others. I am not saying this is easy, I am saying it is expected. I am telling you that the One who has died for all your sins is asking you, in return, to demonstrate your understanding of the mercy that has been extended to you by extending that mercy to others. Matthew 5:8 (NLT) - There is a difference between purity of filth and purity of heart. - This is not talking about a clean, white heart that has not been stained by anything. Purity of heart in this context is talking about a heart that is wholly set on God. Purity of Heart is to will one thing. - Soren Kierkegaard Romans 12:1-2 (NLT) - Transformation can happen in an instant. It can happen over time. In this Romans passage is a "renewal." Not like renewing your membership at The YMCA or renewing your Netflix subscription. It is more like a cleansing or purifying type of transformation. CALL TO THE ALTAR - To Begin the process of forgiveness and showing mercy. - Who do you need to show mercy? Begin by committing to show that mercy to them. - To pursue a pure heart... To seek God first with everything in you. - Commit to non-conformation to this world - Commit to Transformation through the renewing of your mind.

1 Kings 14:24 NKJV: And there were also perverted persons in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. GNT: Worst of all, there were men and women who served as prostitutes at those pagan places of worship. The people of Judah practiced all the shameful things done by the people whom the Lord had driven out of the land as the Israelites advanced into the country. NLT: There were even shrine prostitutes throughout the land. The people imitated the detestable practices of the pagan nations the Lord had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites.
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT To win the world is to display the greatest love. God loved us so much that He gave! There is no greater love than to lay down your life for the well-being of others. The key to Joy is unconditional kindness to all people which is true compassion. The Great Commission is a command and the second judgment (1 Corinthians 3:12-15) is a reality. “We are not only going to be judged for what we have done. we are going to be judged by what we could have done.” -AW Tozer LOVELESSNESS RESULTS FROM SELF-LOVE When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. Matthew 9:36-37 NLT But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace.” Luke 19:41-42 NLT “Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, and he asked one of the servants what was going on. ‘Your brother is back,' he was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.' “The older brother was angry and wouldn't go in. His father came out and begged him, but he replied, ‘All these years I've slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!' “His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours. We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!” Luke 15:25-32 NLT “There are two kinds of Christians, spiritual and carnal. The experience of the two is vastly different. In the life of the spiritual Christian the power of the Lord Jesus is being lived out; sin does not have dominion because the indwelling Holy Spirit continually manifests the life of the Lord Jesus. The carnal Christian is a true believer, yet in him the self-life is dominant and sin still has the upper hand. Such a Christian is defeated and has not yet learned to let the spirit of God take control of his personality. The carnal life is one of continual defeat and struggle. There is neither peace nor power, Joy nor liberty. The spirit is bound and there is little evidence of the fruit of the spirit of God.” -Dwight Hervey Small 1. It is possible for one to assume the place and privileges of a son while refusing to love their brother. His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours. Luke 15:31 NLT HUMILITY LEADS TO GRATITUDE, BUT PRIDE AND SELFISHNESS LEADS TO BITTERNESS But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don't cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. James 3:14-16 NLT 2. It is possible for one to serve the father Faithfully while not being in fellowship with Him. but he replied, ‘All these years I've slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. Luke 15:29 NLT YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE WHY BEHIND THE WHAT IN YOUR SERVICE TO THE FATHER. 3. It is possible for one to be the heir of all his father's possessions yet to have less joy and Liberty than one who possesses nothing. Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house, and he asked one of the servants what was going on. ‘Your brother is back,' he was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.' The older brother was angry and wouldn't go in. Luke 15:25-28 NLT IF YOU DO NOT SHARE IN THE FATHER'S BURDENS YOU CANNOT SHARE IN THE FATHER'S JOY. So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. Luke 15:20 NLT For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. John 6:38 NLT And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Romans 8:17 NLT IF YOU STAY HOLY AND HUMBLE YOU ARE ON A HEAD-ON COLLISION FOR GREATNESS. YOU CAN'T BE HUMBLE AND SELF-CENTERED AT THE SAME TIME YOU CAN'T BE HUMBLE AND SELF-RIGHTEOUS AT THE SAME TIME YOU CAN'T BE HUMBLE AND FULL OF SELF-PITY AT THE SAME TIME
Hebrews 5:11-14 (NLT) There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don't seem to listen. 12, You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13, For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn't know how to do what is right. 14, Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong. NKJV, to be able to recognize between sound and unsound doctrine.

“I don't want to face that again. It feels like too much.” Many of my clients have experienced tremendous grief or trauma in their lives, and as we seek God together through our writing back and forth, there is often a pressure they are feeling—whether from themselves or family members or friends—to use journaling to write about their deepest wounds. And friend, you already know I believe in the power of journaling. It is a great practice that can help us process difficult experiences and emotions and be more aware of how God is moving in our lives. And yet… we do have to use some wisdom in what we write about. We have to pay attention to how our journaling is impacting us. Because there are times when you might fear that journaling about a specific experience will be too much, that it will bring back memories or feelings that you have no desire to re-live. What do you do in that situation? Today, I want to teach you about the Flip-Out Rule and what it means for both your journaling practice and your journey of healing. I think it will be a great guideline as you discern what you should—and should not—write about. Are you ready? Romans 5:15-18 NLT There is a great difference between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God's gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man's sin. For Adam's sin led to condemnation, but God's free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Through Adam's choice to disobey God, he brought death. Through Christ's obedience to God, He brought grace and forgiveness. Through Adam's choice to disobey God, he brought condemnation. Through Christ's obedience to God, He brought righteousness, along with the opportunity for a right relationship with God and new life for … who? Everyone who believes. Whose image do you feel like you live in day in and day out? Adam's or Jesus's? Through Jesus we are offered ‘new life' - how does it feel for you to experience that all condemnation is lifted from you right now? Listen again, but this time, we will focus only on what Christ provides for you: There is a great difference between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift. … But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God's gracious gift is very different … God's free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. … But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, … Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. (Romans 5:15-18 NLT) The word “gift” is used five times in this passage. God's wonderful free gift of forgiveness and His righteousness. Today, His gift is yours. Receive it. Open it. Live it. Share it. Let's pray: “Father, thank You for Your gift. Thank You that You offer this gift to me every day. Help me to receive what You give and be grateful that I can walk in true, real freedom and forgiveness. As above, so below.”
God wants to equip us by his power to live with patience and endurance. We don't have to rely on our own strength to get through the trails of everyday life. We have been given strength by the power of God through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers and gives us strength to live and do what God has set out for us because it's not the independent self who is strong in the kingdom of God but the one who is utterly dependent on the spirit of God. "We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need."Colossians 1:11 (NLT)"There is a slight distinction to be drawn between ‘endurance' and ‘patience'. The former (endurance) is what faith, hope and love bring to an apparently impossible situation, the latter (patience) what they show to an apparently impossible person."N.T. Successful people do CONSISTENTLY what others do OCCASIONALLY. ALL IN = CONSISTENCY So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:18–20 (NLT) There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them. Acts 4:34 (NLT) So God's message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too. Acts 6:7 (NLT) ALL IN with SERVING There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 1 Corinthians 12:4–5 (NLT) ALL IN with GIVING They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor. Psalm 112:9 (NLT) ALL IN with SHARING He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” John 9:25 (NIV) BOTTOM LINE: The ALL IN life is about CONTRIBUTING, not only CONSUMING. THE CHALLENGE: I'm going ALL IN with:
Week One: 05/14/23 Series: Mother's Day Title: Lasting Legacy Bible: 1 Samuel 1:1 - 16 1 Samuel 1:1 – 2 (NLT) There was a man named Elkanah who lived in Ramah in the region of Zuph in the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, of Ephraim. 2 Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah did not. Hannah Overcame Unrealized Expectations 1 Samuel 1:3 – 7a (NLT) 3 Each year Elkanah would travel to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of Heaven's Armies at the Tabernacle. The priests of the Lord at that time were the two sons of Eli—Hophni and Phinehas. 4 On the days Elkanah presented his sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to Peninnah and each of her children. 5 And though he loved Hannah, he would give her only one choice portion because the Lord had given her no children. 6 So Peninnah would taunt Hannah and make fun of her because the Lord had kept her from having children. 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. A Provoking Rival 1 Samuel 1: 7 – 8 (NLT) 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Each time, Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not even eat. 8 “Why are you crying, Hannah?” Elkanah would ask. “Why aren't you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? You have me—isn't that better than having ten sons?” Depression Crying Not eating Sadness of the heart 1 Samuel 1:7a (NLT) 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Long-term Verbal and Emotional Abuse 1 Samuel 1:8 (NLT) 8 “Why are you crying, Hannah?” Elkanah would ask. “Why aren't you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? You have me—isn't that better than having ten sons?” Are You Serious? Moment with Her Husband 1 Samuel 1:16 (NLT) 16 Don't think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.” Anxiety 1 Samuel 1:4 – 5 (NLT) 4 On the days Elkanah presented his sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to Peninnah and each of her children. 5 And though he loved Hannah, he would give her only one choice portion because the Lord had given her no children. Receiving Grace 1Samuel 1:10 (NLT) 10 Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord. Passionate Persistent Prayer 1 Samuel 1:12 – 15 (NLT) 12 As she was praying to the Lord, Eli watched her. 13 Seeing her lips moving but hearing no sound, he thought she had been drinking. 14 “Must you come here drunk?” he demanded. “Throw away your wine!” 15 “Oh no, sir!” she replied. “I haven't been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:11 (NLT) 11 And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven's Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never be cut.” 1 Samuel 1:17 – 19 (NLT) 17 “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.” 18 “Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad. 19 The entire family got up early the next morning and went to worship the Lord once more. Then they returned home to Ramah. When Elkanah slept with Hannah, the Lord remembered her plea, Practicing Healthier Rhythms 1 Samuel 1:24 – 28 (NLT) 24 When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three-year-old bull for the sacrifice and a basket of flour and some wine. 25 After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. 26 “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. 27 I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. 28 Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there. Making a Deeper Commitment to the Lord

“God has Faith in Job's Faith in Him” Job 1:1 (NLT) There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. Job 1:6 – 12 (NLT) 6 One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the Lord, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. 7 “Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan. Satan answered the Lord, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that's going on.” 8 Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.” 9 Satan replied to the Lord, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. 10 You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! 11 But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!” 12 “All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don't harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord's presence. Job 2:3 – 7 (NLT) 3 Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you urged me to harm him without cause.” 4 Satan replied to the Lord, “Skin for skin! A man will give up everything he has to save his life. 5 But reach out and take away his health, and he will surely curse you to your face!” 6 “All right, do with him as you please,” the Lord said to Satan. “But spare his life.” 7 So Satan left the Lord's presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot. Job Curses His Birth Job 3:1 – 2 (NLT) At last Job spoke, and he cursed the day of his birth. 2 He said: 3 “Let the day of my birth be erased, and the night I was conceived. Job Wishes He was Dead Job 6:8 – 10 (NLT) 8 “Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant my desire. 9 I wish he would crush me. I wish he would reach out his hand and kill me. 10 At least I can take comfort in this: Despite the pain, I have not denied the words of the Holy One. Job Argues with Friends Job 19:19 – 22 (NLT) 19 My close friends detest me. Those I loved have turned against me. 20 I have been reduced to skin and bones and have escaped death by the skin of my teeth. 21 “Have mercy on me, my friends, have mercy, for the hand of God has struck me. 22 Must you also persecute me, like God does? Haven't you chewed me up enough? Job Complains about God Job 21:4 – 5 (NLT) 4 “My complaint is with God, not with people. I have good reason to be so impatient. 5 Look at me and be stunned. Put your hand over your mouth in shock. Job Never Loses Faith Job 42:5 – 6 (NLT) 5 I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. 6 I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.” Our three clarifying questions: Head: What do I know now? Heart: How does this change me? Hands: What do I do now? Hebrews 4:16 (NLT) 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

January 29 2023 Sunday T. Stacy Hayes Week 3 / Living In Who You Are My Vision My vision is to teach the world Who They Are In Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! This podcast is free to all that want to listen and grow strong in who God has made them to be in Christ Jesus their Lord and Savior. Welcome back to Let's Encourage One Another. My name is Kari Bartkus and I work as a spiritual director to women who are going through difficult seasons like grief, depression, fear, or anxiety. And I do so through a modern-day, letter writing style of spiritual direction, so we use email to write back and forth, sharing our questions, insights, and reflections with one another. One of the tools I use as I serve these women is… well, I don't have a fancy name for it, but it consists of 4 R's to hearing from God. This is something that I've created as a sort of framework that helps me remember different things I want to check within my own heart and spirit as I'm meeting with the Lord, and they are also things I can talk about with women who are bringing their questions to Him about what to do or how to move forward in a certain area of their lives. If you are either in a season of hurt yourself, or if you are caring for someone else who is hurting, you are likely seeking God in a particular matter, too. Do you move forward with the treatment or not? Do you keep serving in this volunteer role or do you step down to focus on your family? Do you bring anyone else onto your support team besides your counselor? Why can't you move forward from past trauma you've experienced? These are all valid questions and they are all things that we need to bring before the Lord and seek His guidance on. So over the next four episodes, I want to share each of those four heart postures so that, when you are seeking God, you can be mindful of things that might be getting in the way, and you can also take perhaps a more proactive and intentional approach to hearing from God. The four heart postures are: Ready, Recognize, Receive, and Respond. Today, we are going to talk about the first heart posture: being ready. Kari QUOTES, RESOURCES, + BIBLE VERSES: “Never stop praying.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT) “There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God.” (Brother Lawrence, Practicing the Presence of God) Bonus Episode 7: Getting Ready to Meet With God ______ >> Journal Gently: An 8-week program designed to help you process grief and trauma with God http://lovedoesthat.org/journalgently >> Written Spiritual Direction: Recognize God's presence in your pain http://lovedoesthat.org/spiritualdirection
Series: True[ish] Title: Al long as I'm Happy Date: 7.10.22 Location: Perris Valley Church 1 Peter 1:15 (NLT) But now you must be happy holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is happy holy. When the bottom line is my happiness, happiness becomes the standard by which I judge my actions. Psalm 37:4 (NLT) Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires. Psalm 97:12 (NLT) May all who are godly rejoice in the Lord and praise his holy name! God doesn't want you happy when it causes you to do something wrong, unwise, or sinful. Proverbs 14:12 (NLT) There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. God doesn't want you happy when your happiness is only based on the things in this world. 1 John 2:15 (NLT) Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. Psalm 1:1-2 (NLT) Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. God does not want you happy - He wants you blessed. John 16:23-24 (NLT) At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. 24 You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. Luke 6:22-23 (NLT) What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man. 23 When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way. 1 Peter 3:14 (NLT) But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don't worry or be afraid of their threats.

Sermon Notes - July 10, 2022After God's Own Heart - God Loves Justice - Jon Furman Joshua 9:18b-20 (NLT)“The people of Israel grumbled against their leaders because of the treaty. But the Leaders replied, “Since we have sworn an oath in the presence of the Lord, the god of Israel, we cannot touch them. This is what we must do. We must let them live, for divine anger would come upon us if we broke our oath.” 2 Samuel 21:1-2 (NLT)There was a famine during David's reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the Lord about it. And the Lord said, “The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.” So the king summoned the Gibeonites. They were not part of Israel but were all that was left of the nation of the Amorites. The people of Israel had sworn not to kill them, but Saul, in his zeal for Israel and Judah, had tried to wipe them out. 2 Samuel 21:2-3 (NLT)David asked them, “What can I do for you? How can I make amends so that you will bless the Lord's people again?” 2 Samuel 21:4 (NLT)“Well, money can't settle this matter between us and the family of Saul,” the Gibeonites replied. “Neither can we demand the life of anyone in Israel.” “What can I do then?” David asked. “Just tell me and I will do it for you.” 2 Samuel 21:5-6 (NLT)Then they replied, “It was Saul who planned to destroy us, to keep us from having any place at all in the territory of Israel. So let seven of Saul's sons be handed over to us, and we will execute them before the Lord at Gibeon, on the mountain of the Lord.” “And the Lord said, ‘The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.' 2 Samuel 21:10 (NLT)Then Rizpah daughter of Aiah, the mother of two of the men, spread burlap on a rock and stayed there the entire harvest season. She prevented the scavenger birds from tearing at their bodies during the day and stopped wild animals from eating them at night. 2 Samuel 21:14 (NLT)Then the king ordered that they bury the bones in the tomb of Kish, Saul's father, at the town of Zela in the land of Benjamin. After that, God ended the famine in the land. Devote yourself to living in the truth. Turn to God to discover the truth. Trust that the truth will set you free.

Sermon Notes - July 3, 2022After God's Own Heart - God Loves Trust - Jon Furman Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. 1 Samuel 17:1-3 (NLT)The Philistines mustered their army for battle and camped between Socoh in Judah and Azekah at Ephes-dammim. Saul countered by gathering his Israelite troops near the valley of Elah. So the Philistines and Israelites faced each other on opposite hills, with the valley between them. 1 Samuel 17:4-11 (NLT)Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds. He also wore bronze leg armor, and he carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder. The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver's beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds. His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield. Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves! I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!” When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken. “King Og of Bashan was the last survivor of the giant Rephaites. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide…” - Deuteronomy 3:11 “In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot…” - 2 Samuel 21:20 “…he's been a man of war since his youth.” - 1 Samuel 17:33 1 Samuel 13:19-20 & 22 (NLT)There were no blacksmiths in the land of Israel in those days. The Philistines wouldn't allow them for fear they would make swords and spears for the Hebrews. So whenever the Israelites needed to sharpen their plowshares, picks, axes, or sickles, they had to take them to a Philistine blacksmith... So on the day of the battle none of the people of Israel had a sword or spear, except for Saul and Jonathan. 1 Samuel 17:22-24 (NLT)David left his things with the keeper of supplies and hurried out to the ranks to greet his brothers. As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, came out from the Philistine ranks. Then David heard him shout his usual taunt to the army of Israel. As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright. 1 Samuel 17:26b (NLT)“…Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?” David chooses to trust God more than he trusts his Fears & Foes. 1 Samuel 17:28 (NLT)But when David's oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you're supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!” David chooses to trust God more than he trusts in his Family & Friends. 1 Samuel 17:31-33 (NLT)Then David's question was reported to King Saul, and the king sent for him. “Don't worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I'll go fight him!” “Don't be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There's no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You're only a boy, and he's been a man of war since his youth.” 1 Samuel 17:37 (NLT)The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” 1 Samuel 17:38-40 (NLT)Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can't go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I'm not used to them.” So David took them off again. He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd's bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd's staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:41-44 (NLT)Goliath walked out toward David with his shield bearer ahead of him, sneering in contempt at this ruddy-faced boy. “Am I a dog,” he roared at David, “that you come at me with a stick?” And he cursed David by the names of his gods. “Come over here, and I'll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!” Goliath yelled. 1 Samuel 17:45-47 (NLT)David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven's Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord's battle, and he will give you to us!” 1 Samuel 17:50-51 (NLT)So David triumphed over the Philistine with only a sling and a stone, for he had no sword. Then David ran over and pulled Goliath's sword from its sheath. David used it to kill him and cut off his head. David chose faith in God over Equipment, Advancement, or Achievements. Engage your focus on God. Employ yourself as a Godly resource. Encourage others through trust in God.
Bible Verse of the Day: Scripture quotes for encouragement & strengthen your faith in God's Word
John 3:18 is today's Bible verse in which Jesus talks about our freedom from condemnation by believing in his saving work on The Cross. John 3:18 is Jesus' statement that "Whoever believes is not condemned; but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because they haven't believed in God's one-and-only Son." This verse is a strong reminder of the importance faith. We are not condemned as believers because we believe in Jesus. Those who don't believe are already condemned because they haven't believed in the One who can save them. This verse should be a reminder to all who don't know Christ to share the gospel with them, so they can have forgiveness and eternal life. It also reminds us of the importance of keeping our faith strong so we don't get condemned. John 3:18 Daily Bible Verse for Jun 15 John 3:18 (ESV) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. (KJV) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (MSG) Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. (NIV) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. (NLT) “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son. 15 June Scripture reading and reflection for today Realizing that we are not the only ones in this world is powerful. Our Heavenly Father has made it possible for us to share eternal life with Him. This is possible because He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to save it. It is not to condemn it but to show us how to live eternally. This is a wonderful act of God's love. It is something we can all do by reflecting on His Word, and allowing it change our lives. This will help us become more like Christ, and allow us to share His love with others. It is amazing to realize that we can be a part of God's salvation plan!
New Life Christian Center June 12, 2022 Pastor David Larson Miracles Deconstructed “Unstoppable Prayer” Acts 3-4 …upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. Matthew 16:18 (NLT) Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o'clock prayer service. As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, “I don't have any silver or gold for you. But I'll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man's feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded! They all rushed out in amazement to Solomon's Colonnade, where the man was holding tightly to Peter and John. Acts 3:1-11 (NLT) They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we've done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. Acts 4:7-10 (NLT) There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them.” Acts 4:12 (NLT) 1. Bold prayer recognizes that we are in God's MIGHTY HANDS. Then all the believers were united as they lifted their voices in prayer: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit… In fact, everything they did occurred according to your eternal will and plan. Acts 4:24-25 & 28 (NLT) 2. Pray with BOLDNESS. And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give your servants great boldness in their preaching. Acts 4:29 (NLT) 3. Bold prayer seeks for God to MOVE POWERFULLY. Send your healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts 4:30 (NLT) So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
Once you were far away but now you have been brought near. Ecclesiastes 1 - 3, Psalm 45, and Ephesians 2 Meaningless! Meaningless, cries the Preacher. All is meaningless, he cries. Try as he might, he cannot make sense of the brokenness of life, even his own life. Nothing, in the end, seems to be right. All seems to be wrong. He cannot find a way to reconcile life's disparities. He has eternity in his heart, and yet, the present is fraught with fractures. Nothing makes sense. But Paul, in Ephesians, cries out something different. You lived in this world without God and without hope. But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. (Eph 2:12-13 NLT) Christ himself has brought us peace, through the cross, by his blood. Good News has come to us in Christ. No longer is life meaningless and hopeless. No. Now we have life in him. When we are tempted to see the world through the old lens of despair and hopelessness, we can look to the life and sacrifice of Jesus. In our hopelessness and despair, he has offered his love. His love led him to a Cross, so he could free us from despair and offer us life here and now, with eternal purposes, and present joy. The preacher says, Everything is meaningless, completely meaningless! (Eccl 1:2 NLT) but Paul says he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (Eph 2:5 NLT) There is someone far greater than Solomon, who is able to mend the human soul and make you new. He is, even now, making all things new. Step into the eternal purpose He offers you, in Christ, by faith; so that you can begin to live, abide and rest in His joy and strength.

Keep your heart on the right course (Proverbs 23:19 NLT) There're things that some people do that invite demons into their lives without them knowing. They yield themselves to the influence of demons through certain kinds of music, dance, among several other things. For example, Christians who visit pornographic websites open themselves to demons. In the Old Testament, God forbade His children from looking at the nakedness of others (Read Leviticus 18). Such things aren't acceptable to God. They're not consistent with the life of righteousness. Think about it: How does Christ come into the heart of a man? When you believe in Jesus Christ and confess His lordship, He comes into your heart in an instant. That's the same way a man can open his heart to demons when he exposes himself to things that are inspired by demons. Protect and keep yourself from all unrighteousness. The Bible says, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). Refuse to harbour unclean thoughts. Use the Word to purify your heart of anger, bitterness and malice. The Word of God is a cleanser. As you meditate on the Word, you're cleansed from ALL unrighteousness: “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (John 15:3). Live as a Christian. Our theme verse says to keep your heart on the right course, on God's truth. Protect your mind and spirit with the Word. In Proverbs 23:26 (NIV), God says, “My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways.” Let your heart delight in His Word, in His righteousness, and live a life worthy of Him—pleasing Him in every way. Hallelujah! CONFESSION Satan, the god of this world, has nothing in me! The Lord has given me dominion over the flesh, to guard my heart and mind with all diligence. No unwholesome thought can take root in my heart. My spirit, my mind and my body are yielded to the Word and purified by the Word every day, in Jesus' Name. Amen. (Japanese) このメッセージでは登牧師がどれだけ私たちが幸せなのかについて以下の2つのポイントから話します。 In this message Ps Noboru talks about how we are too blessed to stress in these 2 points: (マタイ5:1-3 JCB) ある日、大ぜいの人が集まって来たので、イエスは弟子たちを連れて山に登り、そこに腰をおろして、彼らにお教えになりました。(3)「心の貧しさを知る謙遜な人は幸いです。神の国はそういう人に与えられるからです。 (Matthew 5:1-3 NLT) One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, (2) and he began to teach them.(3) “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. (Mark 10:17-22 NLT) As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (18) “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good. (19) But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.'” (20) “Teacher,” the man replied, “I've obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” (21) Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven't done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”(22) At this the man's face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. 1.感謝の心を取り戻す Come Back to Thankfulness (1テサロニケ5:17-18 ERV訳) 絶えず祈って! (18) 何があっても、どんな時も、感謝の気持ちを切らさずに!これこそ神がイエス・キリストに属するあなた達に望んでいることなのだから。 (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 NLT) Never stop praying. (18) Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1コリント8:5-6 ERV訳) 天や地に神々と呼ばれる存在がいたり、ある領域をつかさどる霊的な存在が実在するのかしないのかの議論は、本当に重要なことではない。 6)私たちにとって神が唯一であり、神が私たちの父だ。つまり、全てが神から生まれ、全てが神のために存在している。そして主人であるイエス・キリストも唯一で、全てがイエスを通してつくられ、イエスを通して私たちはいのちを持っている。 (1 Corinthians 8:5-6 NLT) There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords. (6) But for us,there is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. 2.心の成長を求めてこう Grow in Your Heart -How to Do より How to Be を大切に! (1コリント13:13 ERV訳)その上で、永遠に残るものは3つ。信仰、希望、そして愛。その中でも他の全てに勝るもの、それが愛だ! (1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT) Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

“Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands. Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that I find no guilt in him.” So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!” When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.” The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.” When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid. He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” So when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, and in Aramaic Gabbatha. Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, “Behold your King!” They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”]]” John 8:1-11 ESV “He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. (English) In this message Ps Catherine talks about how to fire up your gifts in these 4 points: (Acts 3:6-10 NLT) But Peter said, “I don't have any silver or gold for you. When they realized he was the lame 1) You have Gifts To Build & Bless 2) Natural to Supernatural (Acts 4:13 NLT) The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. 3) Unwrap Your Gifts (1Corinthians 12:4-11 NLT) There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. (5) There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. (6) God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. (7) A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. (8) To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. (9) The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. (10) He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. (11) It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. 4) Fan Them to Flame (2 Timothy 1:6 NLT) Paul encourages Timothy, “This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you”. (Acts 4:29-31 NLT) And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. (30) Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (31) After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.
WHO DO YOU TRUST? WHO DO YOU WALK WITH? “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. [4] Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, [5] so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. We are called to use our gifts to serve the Lord in __________. The church is not ________________ without your gift. [1 Corinthians 13:1-3] If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. [2] If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. [3] If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing. We are never to use God's gifts in a way that is ____________. 3 Questions to Help Discover Your Gifts Does it ________________ you? Does it come ________________? Do others ________________ it?

Sermon Notes - June 13, 2021The Greatest Stories Rarely Told: Sacrificial Generosity - Part 2 - Jon Furman Sacrificial GenerosityRadical HospitalityUncommon Humility "Sacagawea reconciles all the natives to our friendly intentions… a woman with a party of men, is a token of peace." – William Clark Acts 4:32-33 (NLT)All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God's great blessing was upon them all. Acts 4:34-35 (NLT)There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them 35 and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need. James 2:15-17 (NLT)Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don't give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Acts 4:36-37 (NLT)For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means “Son of Encouragement”). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus. He sold a field he owned and brought the money to the apostles. Acts 5:1-2 (NLT)But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife's consent, he kept the rest. Acts 5:3-4 (NLT)Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren't lying to us but to God!” “Esse quam videri” (To be, rather than to seem) - Cicero Acts 5:5 (NLT)As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. Application Points: Give because you love the people around you. Give because you want the Good News to spread. Give because you want to be an encouragement.
Dear Younger Self: A Letter from Your FuturePart 1: Let Go of YesterdayStephen BlandinoExodus 1:11, 13 (NLT) – So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor….the Egyptians worked the people of Israel without mercy. How to Let Go of Yesterday:1. Embrace a New IdentityExodus 14:11b-12 (NLT) – “Why did you make us leave Egypt? 12 Didn't we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It's better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!'”2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) – This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!2. Envision a Better FutureNumbers 13:27 (NLT) – “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces.3. Enlarge Your PerspectiveNumbers 13:28, 31b, 33b (NLT) – But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak!…“We can't go up against them! They are stronger than we are!”…Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that's what they thought, too!”Numbers 14:2-4 (NLT) – Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. “If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained. 3 “Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn't it be better for us to return to Egypt?” 4 Then they plotted among themselves, “Let's choose a new leader and go back to Egypt!”4. Establish New HabitsExodus 16:2-3 (NLT) – There, too, the whole community of Israel complained about Moses and Aaron. 3 “If only the Lord had killed us back in Egypt,” they moaned. “There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.”Numbers 11:1, 4-6 (NLT) – Soon the people began to complain about their hardship, and the Lord heard everything they said….4 Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed. 5 “We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. 6 But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”
This is our third week discussing the “How to Live” sermon series that is based on the New Testament Letter of James. As a congregation we are following a reading plan through James and studying selected passages. Check out mylhumc.net/grow for more information. According to scripture, life is a series of tests. These challenges help us to grow stronger, and to become who God intends for us to be. Last week we studied trials – challenges that come upon us from the outside – and we discovered that when we patiently endure them and depend on God to get us through them, we grow in maturity.Temptations are a different kind of test – Satan throws them at us to get us off course, to weaken us through shame and guilt, and to isolate us from other Christians. Satan wants us to fail these tests, but God wants us to pass them all, to persevere, and to live in victory.God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 NLT)According to James, this is how we live in victory over temptation:Remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. So, don't be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. (James 1:13-16 NLT)There are three important truths about temptation:1) The Certainty of Temptation: Temptation is inevitable. It is a reality we all face on a daily basis. It will come, in a variety of shapes and sizes, in different seasons of life. 2) The Consequences of Temptation: Temptation is simply when we face a choice – our response determines whether it becomes sin or not. 3) The Conquest of Temptation: God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 NLT)The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV)Overcoming temptation is possible. God always provides a way to escape it. There are three things we need to live in victory: Friends + Flee + Find Power in Scripture and PrayerFor Discussion:What kind of temptations do you deal with on a regular basis? (You do not have to share these with everyone, but you must be honest with yourself or you will never win the struggle against them!)Can you explain the sin cycle of “Desire --> Deception --> Disobedience --> Death” in your own words? Talk through each step and come up with an example of what this might look like.Which part of the “Friends + Flee + Find Power in Scripture and Prayer” are you strongest in? The weakest? What do you need to do to strengthen your weak area and find victory over temptation?Don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. (James 1:22a NLT)
Two Keys to Encounter God's Power:Impossible PrayersJoshua 10:8 (NLT) – “Do not be afraid of them, for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.”Joshua 10:12-13 (NLT) – “On the day the Lord gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the Lord in front of all the people of Israel. He said, ‘Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.' So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day.”Joshua 10:14 (NLT) – “There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!”Ruth Haley Barton: “What is the use of praying if at the very moment of prayer, we have so little confidence in God that we are busy planning our own kind of answer to our prayer.”[i]2. Irrational Faith**Mark 5:25-26 (NLT) – A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. 26 She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse.Mark 5:27-28 (NLT) – She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. 28 For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”Mark 5:29-32 (NLT) – Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. 30 Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?” 31 His disciples said to him, “Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?'” 32 But he kept on looking around to see who had done it.Mark 5:33-34 (NLT) – Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. And he said to her, “Daughter, YOUR FAITH has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.”Tim Keller: “There is nothing illogical about miracles if a Creator God exists. If a God exists who is big enough to create the universe in all its complexity and vastness, why should a mere miracle be such a mental stretch.”
JUNE 5, Once you were far away but now you have been brought near. Ecclesiastes 1 - 3, Psalm 45, and Ephesians 2 Meaningless! Meaningless, cries the Preacher. All is meaningless, he cries. Try as he might, he cannot reconcile the brokenness of life, even his own life. Nothing, in the end, seems to be right. All seems to be wrong. He cannot find a way to mend life's disparities. In Christ the Good News has come to us. No longer is life meaningless and hopeless. No. Now we have life in him. When we are tempted to see the world through the old lens of despair and hopelessness, we can now look to the life and sacrifice of Jesus. And one day he will make all things new. Step into the eternal purpose He offers you, in Christ, by faith; so that you can begin to live in His joy and strength.
