PSALM 16 (Part 1): Satisfied with God (Psalm 16:1-6)

Psalm 16 is an important Messianic Psalm, quoted by Peter & Paul to prove Jesus is the promised Messiah. Peter quoted Ps16:8-11 in Acts 2:25-28 and expounded it in Acts 2:22-33, as a central part of his sermon. It speaks of a Man who dies and His soul goes to Sheol, but is resurrected before His body sees corruption (within 3 days). Also, He is then exalted to God's right hand (v9-11). He points out the Psalmist, David, died and is still in his tomb (his body saw corruption). Thus, it was not fulfilled by David, but rather he spoke by the Spirit of Prophecy about Christ, the Son of David, that He'd be resurrected before his body saw corruption (v29-31). He then said Jesus fulfilled this Prophecy by His 3rd day resurrection, proving He is the Christ (v32,36). He also pointed out Jesus was exalted to God's right hand, fulfilling Ps 16:11 & 110:1, as confirmed by the Outpouring of the Spirit (Acts 2:33-35). Likewise, Paul in Acts 13:35 quoted Ps 16:10 and expounded it in Acts 13:36-39 to prove Jesus is the Christ. Thus though we can read much of Ps 16 as David's words of trust in God for preservation & provision in this life and hope for his eternal life in God's Presence, the words only find ultimate fulfilment in Christ. So, we should read them as Christ's words, given by prophecy, as He approached death, expressing His faith in God to resurrect Him. Although God, He had to live as a man totally depending on God for everything, including His resurrection: "Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust...You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You (or 'every good thing comes from You')” (v1-2). He's our perfect example of how to live by faith. He describes the saints (those who trust in Him) as the excellent (noble) ones, in whom is all His delight (v3). This shows Christ had us on His heart & mind as He went to the Cross. We are precious in His sight, and so gave Himself for us, so we might be His forever: "for the joy (us, His Bride) set before Him, He endured the Cross" (Hebrews 12:2). As our example, He reveals a key part of living by faith - the rejection of all other gods & idolatry (v4), including covetousness (Col 3:5), for men turn from a pure devotion to the true God and hasten after (seek) other gods is to possess what they offer (prosperity). But the more they multiply their gods & idols the more their sorrows multiply (v4). A classic example is Man's Fall. God provided abundantly, and would have given them more, as they proved themselves faithful, but listening to Satan made them dissatisfied with His Presence and their allotted inheritance, so they became covetous to gain more, and so rejected His authority, claiming autonomy as their own gods, and went their own way, but soon found they gained nothing, but rather lost His Blessing, and their sorrows multiplied. The truth is if we seek 1st the Kingdom (reign) of God over our life and live by His righteous Spirit in our heart, all things will be added to us (Matt 6:33). Thus, we need to learn to be satisfied (content) with God Himself (His Presence in our heart), and with whatever inheritance of possessions & experiences He chooses to give us (as a bonus), both now, in the future and in eternity (Rev 21:7, Phil 4:11-13, 1Tim 6:6). This is exactly what David & Christ declare: "O Lord, YOU are the PORTION of my INHERITANCE and my CUP (what God appoints for me to experience); You maintain my LOT (if we trust Him, He will guard our eternal inheritance, so none can steal it). The (boundary) lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a GOOD INHERITANCE" (v5-6). God is generous (good), giving us much more than we deserve, so we can submit to Him and trust Him day by day for His Presence & gracious provisions, rather than turning from Him in striving & lust to grasp what He's not giving us at this time. In this manner, He declares: "I have set the Lord (not things or experiences) always before Me... I shall not be moved" (v8). As a result, He has assurance God will guide & preserve Him by His Presence on the path of life, thru this life, then thru death & resurrection and exaltation to God's right hand in Heaven, where He'll give Him fullness of joy in His Presence & pleasures (experiences) for all eternity: "You will show me the path of life. In Your Presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (v11). These verses also apply to us, for we are "heirs of God & joint heirs with Christ" (Rom 8:17). He's our example to follow, that we should trust in God and be satisfied with His Presence in our hearts, and the possessions, gifts, opportunities, positions, blessings & experiences He gives us in this life, knowing He's prepared a wonderful eternal future and inheritance for us, way beyond our present experience & imagination (1Cor 2:9, Eph 2:7), where we'll be exalted and experience fullness of joy in His Presence.

His Blessing for A Thousand Generations!Exodus 20:4-6 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,  but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.”I really liked this verse for today because it reminded me of one of my favorite songs. Originally I was just going to start with verse 5 as that is what was given at prayer group. However, it started with You shall not bow down before them or worship them and in my mind, I wondered who we were talking about. This is why I included verse 4 as well.If we look at verse four, we see that God is telling us not to make idols. He is saying it doesn't matter what we make the form/idol to look like. We just shouldn't make them. Now, I remember hearing this and wondering about all the statues, pictures, and medals we have of Mary and Jesus nowadays. I mean, it says, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.I remember Father Mike talked about this during the Bible in a Year podcast. I couldn't remember exactly what he said, and I didn't want to give you misinformation, so I looked it up online this morning. I found an article called Do Catholic's Worship Statues? It was found on the website Catholic.com.  The author states, “People who oppose religious statuary forget about the many passages where the Lord commands the making of statues. For example: “And you shall make two cherubim of gold [i.e., two gold statues of angels]; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end and one cherub on the other end; of one piece of the mercy seat, shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be” (Ex. 25:18–20).” He gave a few other examples. He goes on to talk about the religious use of Images. He said, “During a plague of serpents sent to punish the Israelites during the exodus, God told Moses to “make [a statue of] a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten when he sees it shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live” (Num. 21:8–9). One had to look at the bronze statue of the serpent to be healed, which shows that statues could be used ritually, not merely as religious decorations.”Catholics use statues, paintings, and other artistic devices to recall the person or thing depicted. Just as it helps to remember one's mother by looking at her photograph, so it helps to recall the example of the saints by looking at pictures of them. Catholics also use statues as teaching tools. In the early Church, they were especially useful for the instruction of the illiterate. Many Protestants have pictures of Jesus and other Bible pictures in Sunday school for teaching children. Catholics also use statues to commemorate certain people and events, much as Protestant churches have three-dimensional nativity scenes at Christmas. I had no idea I was going to mention that today, but that is where the Holy Spirit led me. It is important to stop and explain things when they come up. If I had a question, I am probably not the only one who had the question. If you want more info on this topic or more detail, I will place a link for the article in the show notes. It was really interesting to read.Moving on to verse 5, it says, “You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me.” When I first read this, I was thinking how it didn't seem fair that God would punish children for the iniquity of their parents. I looked up the meaning of this verse to see if someone else had the same thought that I had, and it turns out others thought the same thing. Here is what BK Shiroma had to say in the article DNA of Sin. “Now, at first glance, this seems unfair.  It seems as though God is saying he punishes children for their father's (or mother's) sins.  But God makes it very clear later that this is not the case.  In Deuteronomy 24:16, God commanded the people, “Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”  In Ezekiel 18, God rebukes the people who quoted a proverb that seemed to imply that God would punish children for their parent's sins. So if God doesn't punish people for their parents' sins, what does he mean by punishing the children for the sins of their fathers to the third and fourth generations? The author goes on to explain that sin and its effects tend to be passed on from person to person, especially in families. For instance, if we grow up in a broken family, then that is all we know. We tend to act the way our parents act. If our parents are divorced, we may end up divorced because that is all we know. If a child is abused by their parents, they may grow up and find they are doing the same thing to their children. A lot of children who have parents who are addicted to drugs or alcohol also become addicted to drugs and alcohol. The author states, “Each person is punished for their own sins which they commit, suffering the pain and heartache that comes from sin, and yet passing on their sins to the next generation for which they themselves will be punished.”Hearing this may cause us to feel hopeless. We may feel like we are doomed to repeat our parent's mistakes, and that can feel overwhelming for us. However, the answer to this overwhelm, and hopelessness is found in verse 6, “But showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.” If we love God, and we keep His commandments, then he will show us, steadfast love, not only to us but to the thousandth generation. The author states, “If the cycle of sin is to be broken in our lives, we need a relationship with the living God.  We need his transforming power in our lives.  We need to say, “God, I need you.  I need your healing.  I don't want to be a slave to sin in my life anymore.  I can't do this on my own.  Help me.”  And if we repent of our sins, reach out to Him, and let him take the throne of our lives, he will give us victory over the sin that is destroying us, and that cycle of sin will be broken.  Instead of passing on sin to your children, you will pass on the love of God, which he shows to a “thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”This brings me to one of my favorite songs. If you have not heard it, I invite you to look it up on YouTube today, or Spotify probably has it as well. It is called The Blessing. I am not sure who originally sang it as I found it online from Elevation Worship and from Bethel Music with We The Kingdom. If you search for The Blessing, I am sure you will find it. All of these Lyrics are repeated several times. Just listing the lyrics loses so much of what makes the song great. However, I wanted you to hear them in case you don't take me up on the invitation to hear the song. At least this way, you hear the words. I pray you listen to them and you take them in. God is talking to you right here. This is His blessing for you. I will pray these lyrics over each one of you today as our final prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. It is you who I am calling, and I tell you I can enable you to do whatever task I ask. Take a step of faith. Take a step of trust. I am your God. I know what is best. If I tell you I want to use you, say yes, Lord, and do what I tell you, and you will marvel at all you can do. It is I who am God. It is I who enables anyone that I wish. Oxford Bible Church - Living in the Last Days (audio)

God's BLESSING is the impartation of His SPIRIT, giving life; God's life working within and upon us. We were made to live by His blessing, empowering us to live, thrive and be fruitful. The opposite is curse (absence of life, death). Righteousness brings blessing, but sin brings curse. In Adam, all were under sin's curse, but Christ gave us His righteousness, so we can receive His blessing. When we received Christ, His blessing came into us, recreated our spirit and His Spirit now lives in us. There is also a 2nd Blessing (the Baptism in the Spirit), the Spirit upon, empowering us to multiply ourselves and be fruitful. In Scripture, His Blessing is always 2-fold: (1) for our own life, and (2) to empower us to reproduce ourselves in others. There is a vital connection between Blessing and Seed. Blessing works through seed to produce multiplication (Genesis 1:11-12). It is spiritual power. The seed is the natural thing it acts on to produce new life. The blessing is released through sowing seed, and seed is ineffective if not empowered by the blessing. God released His blessing on all His creatures by sowing His seed (speaking His Word): “God BLESSED them, SAYING.." (v22). He blessed them (1) to thrive (v20-21), and then (2) multiply (v22). His blessing is released and goes forth through His words. His Spirit works with His Word. This is the key to release His Blessing. God is BLESSED, and releases His BLESSING by SOWING SEED. Likewise, He made each animal multiply according to its kind or seed (v24-25). When He created man, He imparted the same 2-fold Blessing: (1) WITHIN and (2) UPON. (1) First, He created man, blessing him with life (v26-27), by imparting His Spirit WITHIN (2:7). (2) Then God blessed man a 2nd time, empowering him to be fruitful and multiply - imparting life to others (v28). God's 2-fold Blessing through Adam at Creation is parallel to His 2-fold Blessing through Christ (the 2nd Adam) in the New Creation. (1) At our New Birth, He breathed His Spirit WITHIN, through the sown seed of the Gospel. (2) At our Baptism in the Spirit, He put the Blessing of His Spirit UPON, empowering us to impart life to others, by sowing the words of the Gospel. In both cases, He released His blessing by His words (blessing is voice activated). We are God's image, and so release His blessing the same way: (1) We must be BLESSED with the Spirit upon, and (2) have SEED to sow. Then as we sow it, we release the blessing of life. The WORD and SPIRIT work together unto fruitfulness. Abram received the Promise of this 2-fold Blessing (Genesis 12:2,3), to be transmitted through His Seed (Genesis 22:17-18). This was fulfilled by Christ, who received the full Blessing, within and upon, on our behalf, to freely give us. The New Covenant Blessing is called the BLESSING of ABRAHAM and PROMISE of the SPIRIT (Galatians 3:13-14). It is 2-fold: (1) blessing for our own life, by the Spirit WITHIN, and (2) blessed to be a blessing to others by the Spirit UPON. This 2-fold Ministry of the Spirit was prophesied in Ezekiel 36:26-27 and Joel 2:28-29. Isaiah 59:20-21 describes how this Covenant Blessing is transmitted, by (1) the Spirit UPON, (2) released by speaking God's WORDS. Jesus received and operated in the full 2-fold Promise of the Spirit: (1) born of the Spirit, with the Spirit within, and then (2) baptised in the Spirit, when He received the Spirit upon empowering Him to bless others (Luke 3:21-22, Luke 4:18-19). He is our example, for He said: “As the Father has sent Me, so I send you” (John 20:21). He gives us the same mission to bless others through the Gospel, and so anoints us with the same Spirit upon, and like Him, we release this power by sowing His words (Acts 1:4,5,8). The purpose of the Spirit upon is to give us power to witness, released through our words (Romans 1:16), which transmit the power into men's hearts. This power upon is potential (Acts 1:8), which we activate and release, by speaking His words. It goes forth with our words, making them effectual. We need both the Word in our heart and the Spirit upon to empower our spoken words, so they enter men's hearts with power to illuminate, convict and save. The Parable of the Sower describes how God's Kingdom works. The sower sows God's Word in men's hearts. If received, the seed produces new life in them (1Peter 1:23,25). After Jesus was baptised in the Spirit, He became the first Sower, speaking God's Word, releasing the Spirit's power, giving life to men (John 6:63). He then told us all to continue His mission by sowing His Word in the same power of His Spirit. The earth (man's heart) needs 2 things to bring forth fruit: (1) SEED (the Word) and (2) WATER (the Spirit). So, we need to sow the Word and release the Spirit to minister life to men (John 7:37-39). The Baptism in the Spirit empowers us to speak for Him (Acts 1:8), so His Spirit flows forth with the spoken word, causing it to be effectual in producing fruit in people's hearts.

What does it MEAN to give YOURSELF fully to God? 1) IT'S AN ACT OF WORSHIP 'Offer your bodies... this is your spiritual act of worship' (v. 1 NIV). WORSHIP isn't just ATTENDING Sunday service, singing praises and saying prayers. '... this people... honour Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me...' (lsaiah 29:13 NAS). It calls for SURRENDERING your HEART to God TWENTY-FOUR hours of every day; whether you are ALONE or in a CROWD , at work, ENJOYING recreation, SPENDING FAMILY TIME , at school, on a date etc. If your HEART ISN'T MOVING you, your BEHAVIOR will only be an ACT of RELUCTANT compliance RATHER than one of joyful COMMITMENT . SURRENDERING to God isn't a PART-TIME thing done for your own BENEFIT ; it's a FULL-TIME act of WORSHIP done for God's BENEFIT . 2) IT'S A RESPONSE TO TO GOD'S GENEROSITY. '... in view of God's mercy... offer your bodies...' (Romans 12:1 NIV). God doesn't say, 'lf you don't SURRENDER l will PUNISH .' THERE'S no arm TWISTING . You don't SUBMIT through CLENCHED teeth because of fear; no, it's a response to a DEBT . Everything God asks is INITIATED by His GIVING . Your REPENTANCE is a RESPONSE to His LOVE . Your tithe is a RESPONSE to His BLESSING . Your OBEDIENCE is a RESPONSE to His PROMISES . God's GRACE is never 'a deal,' lt's the 'FREE GIFT' of His LOVE to the UNDESERVING (Romans 5:18). Therefore 'in view of' - as a RATIONAL response to - His mercy, 'offer your bodies as living SACRIFICES .' lt's your 'REASONABLE SERVICE' and it will be 'ACCEPTABLE TO GOD.' God's servant Rev. Alfred Acheampong. Prayer Point: Heavenly Father continue to accept my reasonable service in your house of worship with grace and understanding in Jesus name. Stay Blessed! TRANSFORMATION : 1) Requires personal SACRIFICE . It's not easy, natural or AUTOMATIC . It calls for BECOMING a 'LIVING SACRIFICE' The problem with 'living' SACRIFICES is their TENDENCY to keep ESCAPING the altar, having to be LED back REPEATEDLY to be SACRIFICED again and AGAIN . Salvation is an INSTANT , once-for-all EXPERIENCE , but there can be no INSTANT , once-for-all 'LIVING SACRIFICE' lt's a day-by-day, moment-by-moment RECOMMITMENT which means BRINGING our STUBBORN nature BACK to the altar, SURRENDERING it to God as OFTEN as necessary. Don't WAIT for your OLD nature to IMPROVE or to AGREE to die before CONCLUDING your sacrifice is truly GENUINE . And don't let it DISCOURAGE you in your BATTLE for victory; your old NATURE and your REGENERATED spirit are mutual ENEMIES , '...constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions' (Galatians 5:17 NLT). Your job isn't to OBLITERATE the flesh but to CRUCIFY it each TIME it wants to TAKE over, REFUSING to let it curtail or CRIPPLE your commitment to SPIRITUAL growth. 2) IS A TWO-SIDED ISSUE. '.... offer your bodies as living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God' (Romans 12:1 NIV). That INVOLVES a resolute DECISION of mind and WILL , because our BODIES don't SURRENDER themselves. Until YOU DELIBERATELY choose to 'offer your [body]... to God,' your FLESH will act UNRESTRAINED . '... Just as you..OFFER the parts of your BODY in SLAVERY ... to ever increasing wickedness, so now offer THEM in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness' (Romans 6:19 NIV). When you SURRENDER to your lower IMPULSES, you reap SIN. When you SURRENDER to God, you reap His BLESSING . God's Servant Rev. Alfred Acheampong. Prayer Point: Heavenly Father, help me to live a surrendered life constantly bringing it to the altar for crucifixion in Jesus name. Anchor Scripture: 'DO NOT BE CONFORMED.... BUT BE TRANSFORMED.. '(Romans 12:2 NKJV) Stay Blessed! YearOfSupernaturalProvision

According to Deuteronomy 28, the Curse of the Law includes every kind of sickness (v61), and Jesus redeemed us from the Curse by becoming the Curse for us when He hung on the Tree of Calvary (Galatians 3:13-14). Therefore, Christ has redeemed us from all sickness, having taken the curse of sickness when He hung on the Tree. This proves that Healing is in the Atonement. Healing therefore belongs to us in Christ, because it was purchased for us by the Blood of Christ. To explain the removal of the Curse, in Galatians 3:13 Paul pointed to an Old Testament picture by quoting from Deuteronomy 21:21-23: “for it is written: "CURSED is everyone who hangs on a TREE.” Derek shows how Jesus fulfilled the picture in Deuteronomy 21 in removing the curse from us. He also gives some examples of this Deuteronomy Law in action in Joshua 7 and 8. Derek also shows how Christ's removal of sin and the curse is revealed through the Type of the SCAPEGOAT on the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16. Finally, we study another picture of what Christ accomplished through His Death and Resurrection in taking our CURSE and releasing to us His BLESSING in the ceremony of Joshua 8:30-35, following God's commands in Deuteronomy 11 and 27. (1) All the CURSE for breaking the Law was put on Mount EBAL, the place of Sacrifice, a picture of God putting all our Curse on Christ on the Cross. (2) All the BLESSINGS were placed upon and released from Mount GERAZIM, a picture of Christ's Resurrection, when God blessed Him with every blessing on the basis of His perfect righteousness, which He received on our behalf, and gives freely to us. So (1) EBAL represents Christ in His Death on the Cross, where Christ became a CURSE for us, and (2) GERIZIM represents Christ in His Resurrection, when He received the BLESSING and released it to us. This is exactly what Galatians 3:13-14 tells us: “Christ has (1) redeemed us from the Curse of the Law, having become a Curse for us...that (2) the BLESSING might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus.” Mount EBAL declares that Christ in His Death took all our curse (including sickness), so that we can receive the blessing from Mount GERIZIM, the blessing of abundant, eternal life flowing from Christ's Resurrection. The BLESSING of healing can only flow to us, because Christ bore the CURSE of sickness for us. Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of sickness, so that we might be blessed with the blessing of life and health. (1) By faith, we look to Mt. EBAL and see Christ redeeming us from the curse through His death. Then (2) we look to Mt. GERIZIM and see all the blessings of healing and life released to us in Christ through His resurrection, and we come to Him to receive our healing. The CURSES reveal what Christ has redeemed us from on the Cross. The BLESSINGS reveal what is ours now through His Resurrection. By faith in God's Word we receive: (1) deliverance from the curse, and (2) the fullness of blessing. (1) Through faith in Christ's Death for us, we are released from the power of the curse. (2) Through faith in His Resurrection, we receive the power of new life (blessing).

By faith in God's Word we receive: (1) deliverance from the curse, and (2) the fullness of blessing. (1) Through faith in Christ's Death for us, we are released from the power of the curse. (2) Through faith in His Resurrection, we receive the power of new life (blessing).

Isaiah 1:19,NKJV-  “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;”MSG- If you willingly obey, you'll feast like a king. Living inspired starts with with a willing heart. Like we said last week, our Father is waiting for each of us to take the next step in the life He's already seen we could have. What if we started each day with the expectation that today's gonna be one of the days He's already seen. We've got to stay open to the reality that there's something God wants to accomplish through each of His children. And according to Acts 10:34,NLT- Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism.” We are a chosen generation of royalty, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. At the end of the day, it simply comes down to those willing and obedient.  Remember last week, “I call heaven and earth as witness to the choice you make.” This is why Paul tells us to make the most of every opportunity. Here's the deal, living inspired means there will be times we have to step out beyond our own abilities and Trust, Delight, Commit. Psalm 37:3-5,NKJV- Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. This truth is possibly one of the greatest faith builders God left for us.And make no mistake, there's no other way of discover or living an inspired life outside of faith. Maybe the best we I can describe faith is our positive response to what God has already provided for us by grace. There is absolutely nothing that can replace time in God's word, it's where we discover our new lives He's designed for each of us. And hands down the Joshua 1:8 principle is the key component in our success in an inspired life. Joshua 1:8,AMP- This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, you shall read, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. And since we are these chosen people, fearfully and wonderfully made, the seed of Abraham and heirs according to the promise. God plans is to use each of our lives to be a testimony of His blessing. Genesis 12:2-3,NKJV- “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” You gotta love how God prophesied Abraham's life to him. Galatians 3, You must know that only those who are in Christ are sons of Abraham. Christ redeemedus so that the blessing of Abraham might come on us, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” And it all started with God giving Abraham one simple step of faith, “go where I'm telling you.” And it may sound over simple, but Jesus is asking us the same thing today. Simply Trust, Delight, Commit. Go where I'm telling you, do what I'm asking you, one step at a time, one day at a time, one inspired life at a time. Remember, I will bless you and make you great so that you will be a blessing! This is why our faith is so important. Jude 20, Beloved, build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith, continually progressing, rising higher and higher. Ultimately, because of who God has made us, we have to take our God ordained lives and exercise our influence. And here's the deal, according to the apostle Paul, “its according to the power that works in us.” I believe this is Isaiah's point, If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land Ephesians 3:20,NKJV- Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. As I'm putting this talk together, meditating on these revelations from God's Spirit, I can't help but wonder how many of us find ourselves following logic instead of God? Kinda like baptism, think about it, being dunked in some water, in the natural… come on. But spiritually, according to Jesus it's an eternal statement for every believer. God knows each of us, exactly where we are, what we're going through, and He's still got great plans for everyone of us. But, as long as we're okay living without more of God in our lives, we will. But the moment we start talking steps of faith toward God, the more inspired our lives become. Listen to Paul's prayer for us out of Ephesians; That we embrace the Spirit of wisdom and revelation That we know the hope of His callingThat we walk in the greatness of His power  Remember, living inspired starts with a willing heart. Living inspired means there will be times we have to step out beyond our own abilities and trust, delight and commit our way to Him. This is why God told us He would bless us and make us great, so we will be a blessing! He doesn't show favoritism or partiality to anyone. The Joshua principle isn't some religious, legalistic suggestion, it's spiritual law. Joshua 1:8,AMP- This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, you shall read, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful. Deuteronomy 28:13,NKJV- “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” Since God has called each of us, according to Joshua and Deuteronomy, He hasn't called any of us to failure. The inspired life is a success life.  John 10:10,AMP- “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it in abundance, to the full, till it overflows.”So,  TRUST IN THE LORDDELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORDCOMMIT YOUR WAY TO THE LORD

Favorite Scripture VersesProverbs 16:3 “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”  NRSVCEI heard this verse on the Bible in a Year podcast and Father Mike said that it is one of his favorite passages.  He said he has this on a book mark ever since he was a little kid.  I think this is great!  I did not have any favorite passages when I was a kid.  I knew bible stories, but to have a verse that could help guide you is an amazing idea.  Then I was watching a mentoring session with Pamela & Lonnie Crim and he mentioned that one of the first scriptures he learned was Jeremiah 29:11 “ For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”  He said someone gave him a coffee cup with this on it when he was a teen and it became a verse that he relied on a lot.  The idea of having a few favorite scripture verses that you know well and that you can rely on when you need guidance or when you strength is a great idea!  It is not something I had ever thought of before.   I am fairly new to reading the Bible.  I certainly didn't have any scripture verses memorized before the last few years.  The more books I read, the more I am hearing the authors talk about their favorite verses.  Or they are talking about how we need to grab hold of the promises in the bible and claim them for ourselves.  This is a new concept to me and it is one that I am on board for.  I can be all in when it comes to claiming God's promises.  He gave them to us, so why wouldn't we claim them for ourselves?  I would say most people probably don't claim them because they, like me, have never heard of such a thing.  What does that even mean, claim the promises for myself?  How can you claim a promise?  The Bible was written a very long time ago, how we claim those promises in today's day and age?  Would they still hold true?  Will they still be relevant?  If you are like me, you probably had so many questions like this come to mind when I said that we should claim God's promises that are written in the Bible.  Let me explain the best I can my understanding of what the authors are saying. When we claim a scripture verse or a promise from the Bible we are adopting if, if you will.  We are saying that we want this verse to guide us and to be one that we can rely on.  We are telling God that we claim this promise for our life.  We are saying we believe this is true, not only when He said it, but now as well.  We are saying that we trust God will keep this promise in the same way that He has kept all of His promises.  One way to claim a promise is to write it down and place it somewhere where you can see it often.  Memorize this scripture so that when you are feeling down you can call it to mind quickly.  Or, when the enemy is challenging you or making you feel bad, you can quickly recall God's promise and God's words.  I have a few written verses around my desk that I look at from time to time.  Although apparently I don't look at them enough because I have today verse, Proverbs 16:3 on a post it note on my wall and I didn't even know that until I just looked up.  The other two I have are John 14:12-14 “Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.  I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.”  And Matthew 17:20 “ He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”  If you don't have a favorite scripture verse to rely on in difficult times, I recommend maybe writing a few down.  If you need help you could do a quick google search, you could take one of the ones mentioned here today, or you could look in the Bible and see what stands out to you.  If you ask God to lead you to the right verse or two, He will.  I wrote the Proverbs 16:3 verse down because I feel it is so important.  I think it is something that we could all benefit from not only knowing, but remembering and referring back to.  “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”  Often times we have an idea and we set off to make it happen.  We need a job, we go out and look for one and we accept the job that we get offered.  How often do you pause when you get an idea and run it by God to see what He thinks?  God knows what is best for us, I think most of us can agree on that.  So, why are we not consulting Him with our plans?  Why are we not stopping to pray about our decisions more and asking God to weigh in on these decisions?Did you ever really want to do something but every time you tried to take a step forward with that plan it seems you were met with a roadblock?  Did you ever have a plan and yet nothing went according to this plan?  Have you ever had a time when it seemed like the whole world was against you?  I wonder, when this was happening, did you pray about it?  Did you pray about your plan before you acted on it?  This verse says if we commit our work to the Lord, then our plans will be established.  When you come up with a plan, turn that plan over to the Lord.  Instead of trying to come up with all the details of that plan on your own, tell the Lord what you want to do and ask Him to establish a plan for you.  When the Lord blesses your plan everything is so much easier.  You do not run up against roadblock after roadblock.  You have asked God for help and He will help you, He will show you the way.  The best example of this is when I felt God was calling me to write a book.  I talked to the Lord about it and I told Him that I would write the book if that is what He wanted, but He would need to tell me what to say because I was not sure what He was looking for.  I showed up most days to write and I wrote the words pretty easily.  My friend and I prayed that I would know what publishing company to send it to and I felt like God made that clear to me.  I did not run into a lot of road blocks writing this book and I believe that is because I committed this work to the Lord.  I was writing the book for God, not for myself and I asked for His help.  Are there some places in your life where you are having a lot of trouble?  Does it seem like everywhere you turn you are running into a roadblock?  Are there some works in your life that you have not committed to the Lord?  If you find yourself struggling in some area of your life, its never too late to talk to God about it.  Tell Him your plans, tell Him your thoughts, ask Him for His suggestions and His Blessing.  It doesn't take a lot of time.  I am not saying before you do anything you stop and have a three hour conversation with God about it.  What I am saying is that things in your life will go a lot smoother if you commit them to the Lord and pause for at least a moment and turn things over to the Lord.  He knows what is best and He wants to help us.  If we would just stop and ask He would save us so much time and heart ache.  Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord, we ask that you help us all to commit our work to you.  We ask that you help us to pause and ask for your thoughts before jumping into any new situations or plans.  Lord, we ask that you are with us in our plans and that you pave the way for us so that our journey isn't so difficult.  We invite you in Lord, we ask that you accompany us on our journey.  Lord, we ask that you bless our endeavors and guide us to the best choices.  We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!

#175: My father recently asked me why I sent an email called “4 Feel Good Porn Options/Alternatives” (which was the name of one of our recent podcasts) to my email list.   The tone of his question was somewhat judgmental. The tone of my response was somewhat defensive.   But the conversation that ensued broke new ground in our relationship…   …and led to a moment that every son dreams of receiving from his father:   His Blessing.   My Dad gave me his blessing when I needed it most.   Throughout my life, whenever I’ve needed my Dad most, he’s been there for me.   My Dad’s still got it.   In today’s podcast, I share the emotional story of that conversation and what it meant to me.   And it was the very first time, in 170+ episodes of The Great Man Within Podcast, that I cried.     IN CASE YOU WANT THE REST OF THE BACKGROUND   On Monday, September 28th, I mistakenly sent an email titled “4 Feel Good Porn Options/Alternatives…”   …to 300 of my corporate clients.   And suddenly, we’ve got a situation.   My email list for the podcast (ie YOU, and where no subject is off limits) somehow got commingled with my corporate client list (doh!).   Now I’ve inadvertently triggered a shock & awe campaign with the people who pay my bills.   Some of the blowback has been intense.   “Completely inappropriate.” “Offensive.” “I hope they fire you.”   These responses, I understand.   My clients had no context for – nor had they consented to receiving – that type of email.   Imagine going about your business and then WHAM, your inbox is penetrated (see what I did there?) by an unsolicited heat seeking missile of lusty delights.   (Which, more than a few didn’t find delightful.)   I felt horrible about it. I never want to offend or betray someone’s trust. Especially in an arena as sensitive as sex.   When I awoke on Tuesday, Sept 29th, the day after Porn-Gate, I felt a new wound:   “Sex is bad. Porn is bad. YOU are bad.”   For as long as I’ve had sexual feelings, I’ve had shameful feelings about them.   In my experience, shame is a learned phenomenon, taught to you by others who tell you which bits of you they find unacceptable.   When it comes to anything sexual, it seems I’ve been an exceptional shame-receiving student, and here’s my latest lesson.   This fiasco jump-started the shame cycle’s engines once again:   Fear and angst began their march through their well-worn paths of my psyche.   Until a better, stronger and deeper part of me stepped in and said:   FUCK THAT.   I am GOOD.   My sexuality is a powerful, loving force that runs to the core of my being.   I am here talking openly about sexuality because I experienced firsthand what shame-ifying sex did to my life.   I see so many other men and their partners suffering needlessly in silence for the same reasons.   I am here as a force for change whether you understand it or not.   Whether you like it or not.   I am deeply sorry I shocked, triggered and caused pain for many of my unsuspecting clients.   I am working towards making that right, as best I can.   I thank those who expressed their anger, hurt and fear.   They’ve helped me to see and understand them.   And they’ve given me the priceless gift of seeing and understanding me.   In fact, they gave me the wakeup call I needed to realize…   …I was still holding back.   Still shrinking myself to fit inside the neat little standards that dictates which parts of me are acceptable and which aren’t welcome.   It turns out Porn-Gate (I suppose that’s it’s official name now) exposed how much of my life’s agency I still abdicate away to others.   This has been my nemesis all my life:   Fitting into other people’s standards at the expense of my own Truth and Power.   While I’ve made some deep cuts into this block of stone over the course of my life, it seems Porn-Gate thrust me to the ultimate Boss Level Test:   Am I ready, for the first time in my fucking life…   …to be me? Not just part of me…   …ALL of me?   For the next 10 days, I grappled internally with how much fucking courage it requires to be all of me in this world, man.   The topics I talk about are so triggering for some people, that my entire track record of compassion, generosity and thoughtfulness can be wiped away with one word, like “porn.”   For instance, one of the women who mistakenly received my email said this:   “I hope [client name] ‘fires’ you.   This email today demonstrates extreme unprofessionalism and poor judgment from a self-proclaimed leadership coach, regardless of whether it was intended for men or women.   The legitimate leadership coaches I know don’t find giving advice on finding porn resources.   Pretty sure men and women can find their own porn, and your backpedaling video that I spent 1 minute and 44 seconds watching just made this worse.”   Mind you, earlier in the same email, this woman said she found her way onto my email list because she listened to the 15-episode podcast series I conducted for women called Design Your Future.   In this series, I shined a light on 15 women in male-dominated environments, unpacked their genius and incredibly inspiring stories, listening to them with a curiosity and at a depth that many of them had never experienced before.   Despite listening to these episodes, where my deepest respect for these women was on display, and I shined a light on them in a way no other man in the industry ever had before…   …one email about porn obliterated all of that, for this woman.   So she called for my head.   And guess what?   She got it.   On that email, she copied the head of the committee who had originally hired me…   …and that next day, I was fired.   After the anger, fear and confusion settled…it left me with a simple, penetrating question:   Why have I built a business for a group of people who reject me at my core?   The honest truth was:   Because they pay you, dummy.   But this dramatic experience felt so wrong, so unjust and so disgusting to my heart…   …that the path forward became abundantly clear:   This dummy is done trading in parts of his soul for your temperamental paychecks.   So, I’ve made the decision to go my own way.   To stop walking the “conditional” easy money path and blaze the trail less traveled:   Building my business for the people who accept all of me…   …even if they don’t always understand or agree with me.   These are the people who deserve me, and me them.   As soon as I made that decision, I felt powerful.   I felt an inner unshackling…   …an uncaging of the parts of my soul that had been locked away for decades of my life.   I felt a life force of energy coursing through my spine, my veins and even…my cock.   I felt strength.   I felt…ME. I’ve never been more uncertain about my (short-term) financial future…   …but I’ve never been more sure of the special type of abundance that is coming my way.   I’m talking about the type of abundance that’s reserved only for those who summon the courage to be their truest selves in a world that disproportionally rewards conformity.   By reading this far, your attention counts as the special type of abundance I’m talking about.   So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for filling my tank. If you choose to stay with me as I walk this new path, I can promise you that you’ll get my best.   I can promise you that it’ll never be boring.   And perhaps someday, I’ll be rewarded with the special type of abundance…   …that can only come from you sharing your story of liberation with me.   -DQ

Numbers 6:24-26: 24 ‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” It is strange that this Corona Virus seems to have isolated us in many ways, and yet at the same time has made us appreciate that we are part of a global community….. and that theme seems to have been picked up by those of us writing these messages, and we seek God's guidance on what to write. Maggie – hope and a global coming together to sing the Hymn, “Amazing Grace”, Monica bringing us together in the Unity of the Spirit and Peter sharing a personal testimony of the idea of us “gathering” with our spiritual family as Jesus escorts us from this world into the next.I spent an evening listening to a number of different versions of “The Blessing” which God has used to unite His people, and for me, it has helped me to truly appreciate the Global nature of His Church and the heavenly family that I am part of ….. the same tune, the same words, but in different languages and by people who outwardly may look quite different. If you haven't listened to “The Blessing”, and even if you have, I would encourage you to listen afresh – there are many versions, but this is one you could try: click to open Youtube of The Blessing. The inspiration for this song comes from a number of passages in the Old Testament:Numbers 6:24-26: 24 “‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”'Exodus 20:6 - 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.Deuteronomy 7:9 - 9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.Psalms 103:17-18 - 17 But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children— 18 with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.I first heard “The Blessing” as the UK version and all done by people singing from their homes. Stickers came up to state which Church they were members of, until the pictures became so small that their churches became invisible and actually irrelevant….. they were God's people singing a proclamation upon their nation for God to bring His Blessing! His promise to keep usHis promise to look upon usHis promise to never forget usHis promise to give us peaceHis promise to LOVE US for a 1000 generations…..actually FOREVER!Can we ask this same Blessing for the people we are with as we read or listen to this message? For those people we may not be with at the moment, but whom we love and long for God's Blessing to be upon them.Let's stop reading, pause the recording… and speak a Blessing over the people we are with, the people we love……. Just speak Numbers 6 over them…. or speak as God leads you……Numbers 6:24-26: 24 “‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”'THANKS, AND GOD BLESS YOU! As I thought about this message more, and appreciated ever more deeply the wonderful, huge family we are a part of, God brought the heavenly vision of John, as described in Revelations into my mind…..Rev 7: 9-10 - 9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”From the beginning of the Bible to the end, we see God's salvation plan working through, despite our, all too often, human failings messing things up. And yet God's unfailing love comes back again and again to pick up humanity and once again set us on the right path. And this is not just a mass rebellion against the will of God, but our own personal failure as we go against God's will, and in disobedience fall into sin. I feel sadness in my heart as I write these words, I know I have…. and, no doubt, will again sin against God and to bring Him sadness, but ….“Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”And I will…..YOU WILL…. be amongst that great multitude of saints who are shouting these words before the throne of God, with brothers and sisters from EVERY NATION, TRIBE, PEOPLE AND LANGUAGE - the blessings of the Old Testament coming to fruition through Jesus Christ, our Saviour! What a brilliant God we have! What a wonderful family we have! Let me finish with the closing verses of Revelations 7: Revelations 7: 13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?” 14 I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 ‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them,'[a] nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.'[b] ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.'[c]” What a blessing! Questions to ponder:How do you feel knowing that God has a blessing for you?How does it feel to ask God's blessing to come on others?A wonderful ending…. no more hunger, thirst, heat, etc…. but how can we help others pass through such earthly trouble periods …… physical, emotional and spiritual hurts?

Ustadh Michael Wolfender turns to Surah Al-Ma’ida to show how keeping clean leads to pure faith. Keeping clean grows your faith. Washing purifies sins, character and connections. This surah has a message of the value of keeping clean, including instructions for wudu or ablution (washing before prayer). As Brother Michael says, purifying yourself prepares you for Allah to fulfill His Blessing on you so we may be grateful. Ayat 7 - 8 discuss physically purifying the body expiates sins. This then allows inner purity, helping initiate commitment for believers to be firm for Allah and a testimony to the justice of Islam. Be fair in all of your actions. So this four-step process consists of: 1. Purify 2. Feel good from cleanliness 3. Make internal commitment 4. Be mindful of how you behave with othersAll of these actions contribute towards the second level of fasting which includes being mindful of speech and behavior. Week 4 – Jeff Maness – November 4, 2018 My Declaration: Finances Big Idea: Honoring God financially is not a burden for us to bear, it's a blessing for us to live. Big Question: How do I live in the blessing? Main Scripture: Genesis 2:15, 4:3-7 Free YouVersion Bible app events search “Element Church WY” Genesis 2:15 15 The Lord God placed the man (mankind) in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 1. Understand, it all belongs to God 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 11b Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12a Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Genesis 4:3-7 3 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought a gift—the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted (blessed) Abel and his gift, 5 but he did not accept (bless) Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected. 6 “Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? 7 You will be accepted (blessed) if you do what is right. 2. Understand, the best goes back to God Malachi 3:8-10a 8 “Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me! “But you ask, ‘What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?' “You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me. 9 You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. Matthew 23:23 What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law–justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. “I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week.” — J. D. Rockefeller Genesis 4:6-7 6 “Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? 7 You will be accepted (blessed) if you do what is right. 3. Understand, the blessing comes from God Malachi 3:10 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! “God’s work in my finances has been incredible to watch. His Blessing may not have come in the ways or timing that I would have chosen or wanted, but rather in ways that suggest 2 2 provision truly originates from Him. I wanted to send this to you as an encouragement that although tithing is likely not fun to talk about as a Pastor and that you might even receive push ba
