In this episode of the Journey of My Mother's Son podcast, I talk with Paul Zolman. Paul has created a new way to demonstrate the principles of the love languages.  It's a profound way to learn all five love languages to give them away.  By giving them away, your vision will improve to the point that you can see them coming your way and respond appropriately.  The system is so easy that even young children can be trained in this love giving system.  Spoiler alert:  it's a game where everyone wins. Paul is also the international bestselling author of the Role of Love, but the true author of love is God. In His wisdom, He placed us in a variety of circumstances that require us to find our way back to His pure love. So, what qualifies Paul to speak about love? His childhood experience was the opposite of love. From that austere beginning, and the distaste it formed inside him, He searched for and eventually created a method that transformed his life from anger to loving everyone. Growing up in a family of abuse, physical touch became his preferred love style, only because of the regularity. He could almost count on it. It was consistent. He came to think that was the way to express love. But deep inside, he knew that was a twisted belief. He wanted a better life for himself, which is why he created a paradigm shift that works. In the book, you'll find what helped him move from a childhood boot camp of abuse to being a person who loves everyone and can find good about anyone in any circumstance. This is truly the role of love. To find out more about Paul, you can check out his website at https://roleoflove.com/.

Have you ever felt trapped by the shadows of your past, particularly when those shadows are cast by generational anger and emotional turmoil? Meet Paul Holman, a man who courageously shares his journey from being ensnared in a legacy of anger to finding freedom through love and understanding. Paul's story is not just about personal transformation; it's a beacon of hope for anyone who believes they are doomed to repeat the mistakes of their predecessors. Growing up in an environment where anger was the primary emotion, Paul vowed at 17 to create a different life for himself and his future children. Yet, despite his best intentions, he found himself perpetuating the very patterns he despised. It wasn't until the age of 35, after the end of his first marriage and a series of life-altering realizations, that Paul truly began to take responsibility for his actions. He embarked on a quest to break the cycle of anger, diving into resources like The Color Code and The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. These tools, combined with a healthy dose of introspection, led Paul to a novel approach to fostering love and kindness. Paul's invention, the Roll of Love game, is a playful yet profound method to practice the love languages daily. His story of how this game came to be, the challenges he faced along the way, and the joy it has brought into his life is nothing short of inspirational. This episode is a masterclass in emotional intelligence and the power of love languages to change the way we interact with the world. Paul's insights into the importance of focusing on the good in people, rather than their faults, are a valuable lesson for us all.     What they're saying:   “This is a beautiful book about life, its imperfections, its challenges, and its joys. It is a book of hope and wisdom for all of us facing a bump in the road.” –Pragito Dove   “Pat has woven together beautiful stories of life setbacks that have been transformed into spiritual growth. Though he knows he came to the understanding late in life, Paul Zolman realized at age 35 that he was responsible for his own actions. He had residual anger from being abused as a child and he blamed his father even though the man had been dead for 7 years already. His initial approach to solving his problems came from a negative perspective, “I don't want to be angry” instead of focusing on what he did want. He says double negatives only work in math, not in relationships. He found that focusing on the negative only amplified the problem and his anger ultimately caused the demise of his first marriage.Guest Bio The author of love is God. In His wisdom, He placed us in a variety of circumstances that require us to find our way back to His pure love. So, what qualifies Paul Zolman to speak about love? His childhood experience is the opposite of love. From an austere beginning, and the distaste it formed inside him, he searched for and eventually created a method that transformed his life from anger to loving everyone. Learn what helped Paul Zolman move from a childhood boot camp of abuse to being a person who loves everyone and can find good about anyone in any circumstance. This is truly the role of love.Turning 40 and Taking Responsibility for My ActionsIn this episode of the Forty Drinks Podcast, Stephanie interviews Paul Zolman, who shares his midlife journey from anger to love. Paul grew up in a household filled with anger and abuse, which led to him carrying that anger into his own adult life. It wasn't until he reached the age of 35 that he realized he needed to take responsibility for his own actions and stop blaming his father for his social awkwardness and anger issues. Paul tells the story of reporting himself for child abuse and attending anger management classes, which led to him developing a dice with the five love languages to shift his focus from anger to love. Through this transformation, Paul was able to improve his relationships, communicate better with his children, and find forgiveness for his parents. This episode is a powerful exploration of personal growth and the power of choosing love over anger. Highlights from the episode:Paul's realization at age 35 that he needed to take responsibility for his own actions and stop blaming his father. The negative approach Paul initially took to try to overcome his anger, and how he shifted to a more positive and loving mindset.Paul's experiences with destination dating and how he eventually found love through a connection made by his sister. The impact of Paul's anger on his first marriage and the importance of communication and love in relationships. The creation of the dice with the five love languages and how it helped Paul shift his focus from anger to love.If you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to rate, follow, and review the Forty Drinks Podcast.Guest ResourcesThe Role of Love, bundle package (book, journal & cube) for only $29.99Find Paul on FacebookFind Paul on InstagramThe Five Love Languages by Gary ChapmanDo you have the Midlife Ick? I have fathered 8 children with my first wife. Absorbed 6 more with my second wife and 2 more with my current wife. I was raised in an abusive home and vowed to myself and whoever would listen that I would not be unkind to my children.   I was entering a new field of something I knew nothing about... effective parenting.  I had to learn quickly what works and what didn't work.  Chore charts worked great.   When they want to be beside you all the time, incorporate them into the activity, regardless of how busy you are.  They just want to be included.  Love is more powerful than anything.   Teach them to build trust and don't violate the trust.  If there are errors or mistakes along the way, emphasize the good rather than the error.  If you want good to grow, nourish it.   If you want their bad habits or actions to grow, pay attention to them and focus on that.  Let your garden grow.
