We're celebrating PFN's birthday by shining a light on the partners who have been part of our journey toward people-first leadership, meaningful work, and purpose-driven impact. This special feature from The Unleashing Leaders Podcast with Lee Scott captures the heart of their work and the shared mission that brings us together. Enjoy! — Recognition is not a nice-to-have, it is one of the fastest ways leaders can build trust, momentum, and better employee experiences. Lee sits down with Rob Catalano, Chief Engagement Officer at WorkTango, to unpack how leaders can use feedback, recognition, and employee sentiment to create workplaces where people actually want to contribute. Rob shares how a career detour from marketing into employee experience shaped his passion for improving work lives, and why organizations need shorter feedback loops, more intentional recognition, and a deeper understanding of what motivates their people. From the power of specific, meaningful, and timely recognition to replacing blame with curiosity, this conversation gives leaders practical ways to make appreciation part of everyday culture. If you want to build a workplace where people feel valued, connected, and equipped to grow, this episode is your reminder that small moments of recognition can create lasting cultural change. In this special episode, Gresham shares about the power of a consistent morning routine, which he dubs his “star time.” He recounts how walking his late dog created a disciplined start to his day, fostering focus and productivity. By pairing this ritual with mental conditioning—such as listening to Myron Golden on turning stress into opportunity—he frames everyday struggles as blessings that strengthen character and drive future success. He emphasizes that simply showing up, whether for a workout or a business task, is often the hardest yet most transformative part of growth. Throughout the episode, Gresham maintains an upbeat, motivational tone, urging fellow builders to keep pursuing their unique visions. He acknowledges setbacks but remains confident that perseverance will lead to a breakthrough, noting that he's already reached day 270 of his franchise‑broker journey. https://youtu.be/avv30Z0wD9Q Josh Tarbutton, Entrepreneurial Chairman and Chief Innovation Officer of Bravo Team Engineering Design and Fabrication, is on a mission to restore the dignity of engineers and unleash their creative potential through intentional culture and agile structure. We explore Josh's journey from soldier and professor to engineering leader, and his Engagement Success Framework, which includes: Scoping/Visioning, Customer Communication, Resourcing, and Solution. Josh explains how this structured process allows Bravo Team to align deeply with client goals, unlock team creativity, and deliver complex, high-impact innovations with confidence. We also discuss how “grooming” a project helps avoid costly misalignments, how AI and Agile methods are transforming the engineering workflow, and why design for sustainability and accessibility will define the next frontier of innovation. --- Unleash the Power of Engineers with Josh Tarbutton Good day, dear listeners, Steve Preda here with the Management Blueprint Podcast. And my guest today is Josh Tarbutton, former professor, soldier, and currently the Entrepreneurial Chairman and Chief Innovation Officer of Bravo Team Engineering Design and Fabrication. Josh, welcome to the show. Steve, glad to be here, thank you. Well, I'm excited to have this conversation because your kind of firm has not been represented on the show for the last 300 episodes. So, we're definitely gonna have some new insights and the new perspectives. We've never had an engineering consulting firm, I believe. And you also have a very inspiring “Why” of why you're doing this. So let's start with this. And would you share your personal “Why” and how you are manifesting it in Bravo Team? Yes. So why Bravo Team or why do this? So I think there's the truth that if you want to create new things, you got to imagine them and put yourself in a position to create.Share on X And I think as engineers, we have that unique opportunity and in many of our careers to be the tip of the spear for creativity in our organizations. And, for me personally, seeing how soldiers are trained in the army, seeing how engineers are matriculated in academia and seeing the career paths that they end up with, I really feel like there's a little bit of a mismatch in the market between what the engineer is really capable of and what they're actually able to produce in an organization. And I would say that to the extent that there's a blockage between the creative capacity of the engineer and the value that they could deliver, I feel like I kind of want to help that. And so what is that? Well, part of it has to do with like just the dignity of the engineer and how we understand the value contribution. And so part of my “Why” is I actually believe that if we actually have intentional conversations and we change some of the ways that we do things that we can get, we can allow people to be much more creative and we can have bigger budgets because we're reducing waste in other areas and really make a dramatic impact into the way that we do design work. Okay, so that is fascinating. And you mentioned the dignity of engineering. So, what is happening with the dignity of engineering? Why it needs to be restored? So fundamentally, dignity is, I think, mostly just about respect. And I think, sometimes, when two people are having a conversation, our assumptions that we bring into the conversation can really take away from what the other person is saying. And I think that happens a lot in engineering, where the engineer is doing their best to try to communicate what needs to be communicated. And yet, there's a little bit that's lost in translation. So, then the engineer comes across as being a resistive or adding some restriction or creating problems or trying to slow things down. When in reality, I'd say almost all the time, these individuals are trying to help and reduce risk and increase the customer experienc...

This is a good example of vaidhi-bhakti. You're disturbed when you're three minutes late. This means a very strict idea of how to follow the process. I have a god brother, Saurī Dāsa, who lived with him in the ashram in Hawaii and other places, and he's down to the second. Everything's like, "Get out of my way. We got to do this now," and everything has to be fixed and regulated. He gets up at the same time, and actually, in the beginning of the practice of devotional service, or throughout, we find that the great devotees, Raghunātha Dāsa Goswāmī's practice was like lines in stone, very strictly following. This leads to more advanced stages of the practice of devotional service. So that's good to hear that your mind becomes disturbed by being three minutes late.Hare Kṛṣṇa. I'll read something for our last section. This is from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam six canto, Ajāmila delivered by the Viṣṇudūtas. "One who chants the holy name of the Lord is immediately freed from the reactions of unlimited sins, even if he chants indirectly to indicate something else, jokingly for musical entertainment or even neglectfully. This is accepted by all the learned scholars of the scriptures. If one chants the holy name of Hari and then dies because of an accidental misfortune, such as falling from the top of a house, slipping and suffering broken bones while traveling on the road, being bitten by a serpent, being afflicted with pain and high fever, or being injured by a weapon, one is immediately absolved from having to enter hellish life, even though he is sinful." ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose #makejapagreatagain #mantra #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #harekrishna

Rob Catalano, Chief Engagement Officer at WorkTango, shares insights on how leaders can enhance employee engagement through simple, regular micro-doses of recognition and feedback. He discusses his career transition from what he thought was his dream job (customer experience marketing) and how that translated into his actual dream job (engaging employee experiences). Why is it that so many employees at recognizable brands are miserable? He recognized the need for leaders to create environments where employees can be raving fans just as we seek our customers to be raving fans. Rob offers practical tips for how to recognize employee contributions and deliver constructive feedback in a way that unleashes talent and uplifts workplace culture for overall organizational success. The discussion also highlights generational differences in feedback expectations, particularly with Gen Z employees. Catalano advocates for a culture of curiosity over blame, encouraging leaders to engage in meaningful conversations that foster growth and development. Recognition is best when it is SMT - Specific, Meaningful, and Timely. Feedback doesn't have to take a lot of time, but you must make some time for it. Feedback is better in smaller, more frequent micro-doses. Focus recognition more on employee's contributions and competencies and less on longevity.

Ford Saeks, CEO of Prime Concepts, is a renowned entrepreneur, author and LinkedIn influencer with over 25 years of experience. He stresses the importance of critical thinking and adaptability in addressing organizational challenges, particularly AI disruption and data security. Ford highlights AI's growing role in tasks like appointment scheduling and outlines key business growth strategies focused on client acquisition, transaction value, and operational efficiency. He encourages leaders to address AI's security and ethical issues through proactive training and privacy measures. Ford warns of AI's potential risks, such as deep fakes and data misuse, likening its impact to the internet. He also emphasizes the need for high-touch customer interactions, effective onboarding, self-correcting leadership, and evolving beliefs, while cautioning about AI's influence on relationships and biases. Key Takeaways [01:55] Ford reflected on the pivotal moment when the cassette program influenced his life, emphasizing the importance of being a critical thinker and open-minded. He noted that many organizations fail to address their true challenges, which often lie beneath superficial labels like "culture" or "leadership." [05:16] Ford discussed current challenges faced by CEOs, including AI disruption, data security, and economic changes in the workforce. He highlighted the growing need for cybersecurity and the impact of AI on job roles, noting that AI can now perform tasks like scheduling appointments with human-like precision. [09:17] Ford outlined key areas for business growth: acquiring high-value clients, increasing average transaction values, nurturing repeat and referral sales, and improving operations. He stressed the importance of focusing on high-value clients and operational efficiency to avoid pitfalls like apathy after a sale. [12:27] Ford argued that business development and sales are interconnected, with AI likely impacting both areas. While AI will handle repetitive tasks, he predicted a return to high-touch customer experiences as organizations strive to maintain authentic relationships. [15:46] Ford discussed the importance of rethinking mindset, influenced by Carol Dweck's book "Mindset." He explained that changing one's thought process can lead to different results and emphasized the need to question assumptions and seek varied perspectives to solve problems effectively. [20:10] Ford advised leaders to address security and ethical concerns with AI. He recommended treating AI as a highly capable tool, monitoring it closely, integrating AI training into onboarding, and setting clear usage policies. He suggested setting privacy settings, creating AI champions within the company, and organizing group sessions to explore AI solutions. [22:52] Ford indicated it's too late to keep AI use internal; organizations are already using AI. He advised assessing internal AI use, setting privacy settings, and staying updated on AI developments. [24:09] Ford expressed concerns about enforcing privacy settings effectively, given AI's potential threats like deepfakes. He stressed that while privacy settings are important, they might not fully address data misuse. Ford noted that data security is an ongoing challenge with AI. He highlighted the risk of data cloning and hacking despite privacy settings. Ford compared AI's impact to the internet, predicting it will be transformative and significantly affect all aspects of business and society. Ford observed that many people still underestimate AI's potential, even with its years of presence. [28:08] Ford emphasized that effective onboarding involves paperwork, socialization, and training. He also advocates for team-building activities to foster a positive culture. Ford admitted to needing self-correction to improve his company's culture, having previously dealt with high turnover and a toxic environment. [35:54] Ford spoke on "prosperity consciousness," stressing the need to challenge and evolve one's beliefs for personal and professional growth. Ford warned of AI's potential impact on relationships and the need for careful discernment in its use. Ford highlighted the importance of questioning personal biases and beliefs, sharing a personal example of how past experiences can distort current perceptions. [41:30] Ford recommended taking time for self-reflection and disconnecting from daily distractions to better focus on what truly matters. [43:48] And remember, I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything, at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities, not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them, timing is everything. - Dan Millman Quotable Quotes "If you're asking the wrong question, the answer doesn't matter." "The scariest people to me are the ones who think they know everything but don't know what they don't know." “Learning how to be a critical thinker and be open minded and being able to be like a diamond and add facets. So when someone gives me new information, it's not that I have to change, I get to add a facet to that diamond, making that diamond more valuable.” "Top CEOs right now are challenged with a variety of things in an organization... The disruption of AI... there's no best practices and it's a wild west." "AI is now being used to hack sites and they can do it at scale. It's going to be harder and harder to know what's real and what's not real." "Anything that can be done repetitively is going to get done with AI." "AI is going to be used for high tech, but organizations should really look at the customer experience. How can they still use high touch to maintain authentic relationships and empathy?" “AI won't replace humans. It'll replace humans using AI.” “Deep Fakes are going to be one of the biggest things, knowing what's real and what's not.” “If you look at the younger generations and their motivations... it's not about getting seduced by the generations as much as culturally how people are communicating.” “The workforce is changing, communications are changing, how people communicate in conflict.” “I just think that with AI, you're going to see a lot of that really corrupting how people work, how they live their social interactions. They're going to lose complete skill sets because AI is going to be able to replace a lot of it and they're not going to learn how to talk to people.” "We only think of high touch when it comes to customers. We don't think about the high touch that we actually need in the workplace to influence and inspire people." "Onboarding really comes down to three things. You want to do the paperwork. That's number one. You want to socialize, make sure they feel comfortable in socialization. And then number three is training." "AI can act as my life coach, relationship coach, and business advisor. It's going to infiltrate our lives in ways that are both exciting and scary." "You have to question your cognitive biases, question your logical fallacies, and be willing to be wrong." “Confirmation bias is a fancy way of saying we all argue for our own limitations." "The leadership challenge is harder now than ever. Social media and isolation from COVID have altered our social skills." Resources Mentioned The Leadership Podcast | Sponsored by | Rafti Advisors. Today's episode of the Second in Command podcast is a recast of a conversation between Cameron and Benji Carlson, host of the Contractors Evolution podcast. They explore the intricacies of business growth, emphasizing the critical transition phase for companies expanding from $10 million to $100 million in revenue. Cameron advocates for the necessity of hiring experienced outsiders who bring a wealth of expertise, autonomy, and a fresh perspective to the table, distinguishing them from internal promotions that might not always be equipped to handle the complexities of rapid scaling. With his rich background in guiding businesses to success and his role in the exponential growth of 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Cameron shares his wisdom on the importance of matching the CEO's strengths with a second in command's capabilities, highlighting the unique dynamics of this partnership in driving business growth. The conversation shifts into a discussion on the evolving expectations of equity and compensation within the business world. Cameron challenges the prevailing notion that equity is a necessary component of compensation for second in commands, arguing instead for the creation of a compelling company culture and offering alternative forms of recognition and reward. He brings attention to the nuanced reality that while the demand for equity has risen, it's not as prevalent or necessary as many assume. Drawing on his experience and a survey of COO Alliance members, Cameron suggests that focusing on non-equity forms of motivation can be equally, if not more, effective in attracting and retaining top talent.Venturing beyond the confines of business strategies, Cameron and Benji explore the essence of personal fulfillment and the significance of designing a life that extends well beyond the boardroom. Reflecting on their journeys toward achieving balance and contentment, they discuss the importance of intentional living, pursuing passions, and cultivating meaningful relationships. Cameron shares insights into his own life transformation, underscored by his decision to prioritize happiness, health, and relationships over conventional success metrics. This candid conversation serves as a reminder of the importance of crafting a holistic approach to life that embraces personal growth, leisure, and the pursuit of happiness alongside entrepreneurial ambitions.Enjoy! In This Episode You'll Learn:Why, as companies transition from $10 million to $100 million in revenue, bringing in external experts with prior P&L responsibility and experience in scaling businesses is crucial.
