Hey everyone! Elon Musk just tweeted.Obviously, the internet exploded. I want to quickly break down the reasons why this is important. 1) HIS SECOND TWEET WAS MUCH MORE IMPORTANTFollowing up that first tweet, Elon clarified what Tesla was going to DO with the Bitcoin they collect, which is the ACTUAL biggest news. Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency. WOW. In an industry as CAPITAL INTENSIVE as the car industry….Where EVERY DOLLAR typically needs to be put back into scaling production and building the cars themselves…Elon and Tesla have decided to NOT sell their Bitcoin. What does that tell us about their mindset? Read on.2) Tesla would rather have BITCOIN than US Dollars…..I know I just said this above. But read that again just so it sinks in. When one of the most innovative companies in the WORLD would rather have Bitcoin than dollars…. What does that mean about the future of Bitcoin? It’s one thing to BUY Bitcoin (as Tesla already has). It’s quite another to accept it as payment for its cars.3) Tesla believes that Bitcoin will appreciate in price MUCH MORE than if they used that money in DOLLARS to BUILD CARS. It’s honestly true. They’ve already made much more on their initial $1.5 Billion investment than they’ve ever made selling cars…4) Tesla believes that Bitcoin price will go up, SOON.Elon is not a patient guy. He is trying to scale Tesla to the MOON, and FAST. In order to accomplish that, he needs EVERY OUNCE of profit he can get. Saying that they are going to HODL Bitcoin instead of using that money to build cars in the short term means they think this Bull Run is far from over.5) Other companies are planning Bitcoin moves.Do you think Elon would do this, if he wasn’t trying to front-run his other CEO buddies, who are also planning Bitcoin strategies? Obviously not.6) People are actually going to do this, and it will be PUBLIC.Tesla is a publicly traded company. Tesla is also one of the most popular car companies in the World.People ARE going to buy Tesla’s in Bitcoin, a LOT of them. This will be reported quarterly, on Tesla’s balance sheet. Where will all the people that say “Bitcoin isn’t a medium of exchange” or “Bitcoin is too volatile to be used as currency” HIDE when there are BILLIONS of dollars in Bitcoin sales, sitting right there for the World to see.7) This isn’t a “flash in the pan”.Notice how Elon said in his tweet…“Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly.”If you aren’t a huge Bitcoin nerd like me…You won’t know what a node is. That’s okay.Only VERY SERIOUS Bitcoiners end up running one, because it is quite technical. The key point is this.I HAVE NEVER, EVER seen someone run a node who wasn’t serious about Bitcoin long term.EVER.People who run nodes are ready to go down with the ship, and Elon has officially attached his ship to Bitcoin.—————It really is incredible to watch. If you are stumbling across this newsletter for the first time, I’d ask you to consider subscribing, it’s FREE for 30 days. (and then $10 after) Later this week I’m going to be dropping more news on Bitcoin + a letter on how to best CHANGE THINGS in your life for the better, even when it’s hard. It’s a hack that has really changed my life, and I don’t want any of you to miss it. We're back with the last part of the series where I'm walking you through my journey from being a sole proprietor to building an established business that's grown significantly, moving from zero dollars to $500K in sales, and on our way to making even more impact in the world in 2021. In the last three episodes of this series, I talked about how I first focused on just making money, then moving up to that six figure mark by delegating and putting more systems in place and then over the last year I invested energy, time and money into building a team with full time employees, so that we could scale the business and help more people. Today, I'm talking about four actions that were key to scaling the business last year to reach $500K in sales. These included evaluating the duration of our program, continuing to serve our clients, adopting a referral strategy and running paid ads. Here's what I covered: The steps I took to hit that six figure income mark (and how glad I was that I was building my own business and wasn't only depending on freelance work!) How I took time to reflect on what was blocking me (and what I did to commit to my big vision!) What changes I made to continue supporting my clients (by increasing the duration and value of my program!) The process we built around client renewals (and how we wanted to keep supporting them as they continued to update and relaunch their online programs!) How we focused on building a referral program into our business (and show our clients how to do the same!) Accessing a larger audience by running paid ads (and being able to bring thousands of new people into our world!) Last year was definitely a challenge and a time for growth. I was able to overcome some blocks and grow the business to reach new milestones. My goal for this year is to continue influencing the health industry as a whole, touching as many health professionals, practitioners and clinicians as we possibly can - to help them construct a business model and a life that doesn't have them burning out with one to one clients, and instead build a research based, results driven online program! Jerry Durham is a Physical therapist who learned that PATIENT SUCCESS comes from studying successful businesses and implementing what they have done in a "CUSTOMER FIRST" Culture!! He has a company called The Client Experience Experience Company that works with multi site practices and practice managers. He's a Physical Therapist of 25 years who has grown tired of my profession and healthcare NOT truly focusing on our clients, customers and patients!! Im not afraid to share whats best and not afraid to speak my mind and call out the profession for its many times backwards approach. learned from my stack of books, my Business mentors, Entrepreneur Organization AND then doing, doing. BUSINESS SUCCESS COMES FROM ONE PLACE ONLY..... client and patient success Your client is on a journey and the better YOU understand that in your business, the MORE successful your clients will be and ultimately the MORE successful YOUR business will be!! Your Front Desk being the hidden gem in a practice.... the most undervalued, misunderstood and poorly leveraged part of your biz!! here is an ULTIMATE biz and patient metric that ALL should measure... knowing this 1 metric will tell you more about the HEALTH of your business than any other metric (completed plans of care) Your biz culture is defined by your clients journey in your business THE FUTURE IS NOW....... people are paying more today for our services, people are expecting physio and healthcare to deliver an experience similar to other industries People are growing tired of ALL the friction points that healthcare and physio put up AND they are willing to pay for LESS friction!! * PEOPLE PAYING MORE.... (regardless of in or out of network)* People are willing to pay for an experience that has less friction* People ARE expecting better experiences from physio and healthcare
Show notes In an info-packed interview, James Gibson – Lead Product Owner at Revolut – runs Jamie through the principles and processes the global money app have used to build and sustain their growth, which last year topped The Tech Track 100 (with an 507.56% annual sales rise over three years). They cover roadmapping done right, hiring the right people and finding the balance between robust stretch targets and unrealistic expectations of success. Of course, there’s also the big biz whizz quiz for James to fight his way through, before at last concluding on Brilliant or Bonkers, where we look at an American literary giant and ask the question: if you’re on the side of the majority, should you reflect and reform? The ingredients for growth Revolut was named is the fastest growing UK tech company in 2019 and their growth strategy is centred around three things: KPIs (key performance indicators), people and roadmapping: KPIs – Do you know what you’re optimising for, are you pushing everything in the right direction? People – Are you hiring and nurturing the right people? How is your team developing? Without the right people, you’re never going to get to where you want to be Roadmap– What are you going to do with those people to reach your goals? Being critical about bad ideas, just focus on the ones that are going to support KPIs According to James, the key to Revolut’s success is structuring everything carefully, and then being ruthless in that approach. Using smart experimentation to work out the best way forward is at the heart of Revolut. Hiring problem solvers - Despite being a banking app, Revolut typically don’t hire individuals with banking experience. Instead, they hire people from tech companies who think outside of the box in order to drive growth and success. - Being creative and doing things differently is one of the keys to growth as doing what everyone else is doing will result in you growing at the same rate as them. - Accountability:people who own the problem they are given and don’t blindly accept advice from others just because they outrank them - Analytical: anyone can think of a product, what’s hard is not to work out what you **could**, it’s working out what your **should** do. - Spark: An element of creativity, someone who brings fresh ideas to the table Achieving KPIs - As a team, you’re given your target for the quarter but are then given a huge amount of freedom in how you reach that KPI - You then get to pitch different ideas so you can work out how to get from A to B - While you have more freedom, you also have more accountability and responsibility for your projects - Leadership at every level– you own what you do and are judged on your results What’s a realistic target? - Set stretch targets that are more general, as you progress, they don’t look as unrealistic - Revolut has grown quickly through this strategy - Revolut is looking to launch in the US and Singapore in the coming months, these have been huge goals for them - Gradually, elements of these projects have come together and now it seems far more feasible James’ key takeaways - Know what your goals are and make sure everyone in your company knows too - Hire the right people - Make sure you have razor focus on what you decide to push forward - Investing your time and effort in the right things when you’re small is probably the most important thing you can do
Carmel and Lynae are two twin sisters and Fighters from the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Their journey of getting involved with Fight the New Drug began almost 4 years ago, when they saw a Facebook post from a friend in a red “Porn Kills Love” tee. What started as a mutual interest in our posts on the social network grew into an active following of our blog and other social platforms for both Lynae and Carmel. They made huge waves in their Wisconsin community of La Crosse after a local university paid thousands of dollars to a porn performer to give a talk to students about sex education and porn, intended to help the campus celebrate their Free Speech Week. In response, Lynae and Carmel posted on Facebook wearing their “Porn Kills Love” tees with fellow Fighter friends and talked about how porn harms the consumer, relationships, and society in general. The attention the post received and the wider conversations it sparked were unexpected, but amazing. Hear Carmel and Lynae describe their experiences in spreading awareness of the harms of pornography with podcast host Garrett Jonsson. We are grateful for these two incredible Fighters and their efforts to start a conversation on porn’s harms in their community. It is because of these efforts that Carmel and Lynae were awarded with the 2018 Fighter of the Year award! Think you’ve got what it takes to win it next year? Controlling Bosses feel their experience and proficiency led to their advancement and entitle them to make all the decisions. They may or may not be Micromanaging Bosses, but they certainly insist on controlling the decision-making within their team. They will decide and who holds the Veto Power. The problem with Controlling Bosses is they undervalue contributions from their team and peers, believing that the best decisions will come from within rather than others. This ego-centric perspective results in others that give up on being heard and lose faith that their contributions will be valued. As a result, the Controlling Boss becomes a bottleneck for the Team’s output. They can only produce results at the pace of the Boss rather than the exponential capacity of the team. Plus, a lack of perspective evolves when decisions are centralized, and the magic of diverse thought and innovative ideas is lost. People working for Controlling Bosses have options: 1. Acknowledge Your Responsibility. Take ownership for what you can influence, and do it in a respectful manner. Give the Boss Feedback with proper Intentions to help them. Use the B.E. Formula: Offer perspective on their Behaviour (B), and describe the Effects (E). Be non-judgemental. 2. Set Boundaries. Define or clarify, with agreement, your responsibilities. Write these down. 3. Don’t Invite Control. Present updates with authority by stating your intentions for action and ask for their perspective on your intended action, rather than just asking for permission. 4. Seek to Understand. Ask for clarification in a non-threatening way. Use phrases such as “Help me understand this”. 5. Build Trust with your Boss. Here are five key questions to clarify your role and build trust: - What does your Boss need from you in the short and medium term? - What does success look like to your Boss? - What does your Boss need you to accomplish in your roll that has not been done before? - What does your Boss need to see from you to foster a sense of relief that they have the right person? - What do your peers, customers and stakeholders expect from you? Source: “The First 90 Days” by Michael Watkins 6. Acceptance. Some Control & Disagreement is expected. Clearly identify what you can control and what you cannot control. Consider your Boss’s perspectives and input honestly and sincerely and accept that this is the way it might have to be. Know that you will not change the Tiger’s Stripes. 7. Get Out. If the situation is beyond your control and it is becoming unhealthy, look for ways to respectfully move on. Too many people work in unhealthy situations and suffer every single day. It’s not worth it. It’s common these days to hear people talking about having healthy boundaries - but what does that even mean? How would you know what a healthy boundary looks like? How do you honor other people’s boundaries? And if you’re experiencing a breakdown - how do you get back on the right track, so that you know what your boundaries are, and so that they’re respected by the other people in your life. Today’s guest is Sarri Gilman, a therapist for 30 years who has also directed several non-profits, and the author of the book “Transform Your Boundaries”. In this book, Sarri Gilman explains exactly what your boundaries are, and what they aren’t, and gives you guidance about how to bring your boundaries, and yourself, back online. Here are the core topics that Sarri and I cover in this episode: YESSES and NOs. Boundaries are at the core of all relationships- if you interact with humans, you need boundaries! What are boundaries? Boundaries are a collection of your yesses and your nos. We can navigate through layers of complexity and many difficult situations when we come back to a knowing about what our yesses and what our nos are. Boundary work is ongoing: As with so much in relationships, boundaries are not static entities. They change as we change, and vice versa. Forget about ever ‘mastering’ boundary setting - this is going to be a lifelong process! It takes time, and an investment in yourself too, to sort out your feelings so that you can get to know your own yesses, and nos. Of course there will be foggy and fuzzy situations, and grayness is a part of life, but the confusion cannot become an excuse to be uncertain of your boundaries. Instead, it means you may have to take extra time to check in with yourself. Self care is at the heart of boundary work- Boundaries - which we often think of as interactional and relational - all stem from self-awareness, and self-care. Start noticing how many times a day people ask you for something. Then notice how many times each day you have the chance to clarify what is a yes and what is a no. Tune into yourself - can you locate that knowing of what you need? To what extent do you follow through on this knowing? Ask yourself - am I giving myself what I need right now? Am I taking time each day for self-care activities? Am I drinking enough water? Am I picking up my guitar? My knitting? Have I taken a computer break and stretched? Tune into you, and learn what it is you need each day to feel well and okay on the inside. From this awareness, you can come to know your true yesses and nos, and gain a stronger voice and clearer compass for navigating conflict around boundaries. Where do you feel you are paying the price for not taking care of yourself? Not having healthy boundaries can lead to patterns of distraction, avoidance, and isolation. As you begin to increase your self-awareness around your yes and your no, you may begin to notice patterns of boundary avoidance, or compromise. So many of us have been conditioned to put others first, so that our boundaries are a response to what others need, rather than linked to self-care. Some common patterns of unhealthy boundary setting include workaholism, numbing out via internet, social isolation, as well as approval seeking. Do you find yourself looking for LOVE without looking for YOU? Are you so hungry to be loved/liked/approved of that you will do anything for this, without considering if it is actually good for you, or aligned with your real needs? There is a line in any of these patterns that we do that is healthy, and okay up to a certain point. We are all going to have times we need to distract ourselves, put others first, or feel a need to isolate, and yet, it is key to have a way to check back in with ourselves. When we lose ourselves we lose control of our behavior, and this can lead to depression. On the contrary, if we hold boundaries that are too rigid and firm, they become imprisoning for ourselves and our soul/spirit. What nurtures you? What is it that YOU need to feel alive, centered, and empowered? Tune into the very core needs you have on a daily and weekly basis, and make sure you are honoring them. Take an hour to read, time at the gym, a walk with a friend, a dinner date - these small acts of nurturance create the resilience, and self-compassion that makes us that much more open to our relationships. Boundaries help to bring ourselves closer to others. Although it may at first sound paradoxical, good boundary setting allows for more authentic intimacy and connection. This is true because setting boundaries is the result of, and the contributor to our knowing ourselves better, which in turn brings those around us closer. Whether with your family, your work relationships, or your primary partnership, learning healthy boundary setting will lead to increased truthfulness, trust, and depth! Scary, but worth it! Setting boundaries can be difficult and daunting. It can be especially hard if you are someone who has spent much of their life trying to care take of, or please those around you. What helps get through the immediate fear is looking towards the long term results and consequences. Not holding boundaries or following through on commitments with yourself has a huge price! We each have a spirit, or a part of us, that watches what we are doing all of the time - if it always sees you saying no to you, not following up on your own needs, then you may begin to feel depressed. Constantly saying no to ourselves, and trying to say yes to everyone else, can develop into depression, anger, and resentment. Resentment: Resentment is the clearest signal that your boundaries have been crossed. It comes from a feeling that someone failed to respect our boundary - but it is not their job to do so! It is our job to state our boundaries, and to make them clear and big. If someone is crossing your boundary, it likely means you have to make a bigger sign. The fear and intimidation of doing so should not be a barrier - it is temporary and ephemeral, unlike resentment which does not leave us quickly, and can stick with us so long it make us sick. By allowing our fear of saying no to dominate, we run the risk of carrying around resentment- and then we are left paying that price for a long while. Instead, choose to take the risk of the discomfort of a NO in the name of authenticity, connectedness, and a more honest way of being in relationship! It is your job to respect and care-take your own boundaries. No one else can do this for you. The art of saying NO: Once you have the courage and self-compassion to set a boundary, then it is your responsibility to do so with as much compassion for the other as you can. Many times our yesses and our nos come up with a lot of associated feelings - anger, frustration, entitlement, etc. Check in to see what level of emotional charge you are feeling, and if it is high, take steps (walk, journal, breathe...) to calm yourself enough so that you can state your boundary from a centered place. When we do so, it is better received than when we set a boundary with hot and high emotions. You may think that getting big and loud will help the other person see your boundary more clearly, but really it only distracts them, puts them in the defense, and leads to increased tension and conflict. Furthermore, with your emotions in check, you are more likely to feel grounded and have a ‘stand by it’ mentality that allows you to not be as affected or swayed by the (often) inevitable reaction you may get. It will help you stay committed to the boundary itself, without getting distracted or lost in all the feelings around it. How to best handle your fear of communicating a NO: It is common to be worried about how your boundary is going to be received - and yet, often this fear is based on an assumption we are holding. Acknowledge that you have some fear about what a no is going to mean to the other person, and share this! If you are someone who hates to disappoint people, you can take care of them and this feeling simultaneously by simply stating “I am really sorry if you find this disappointing…” before you share your no. Putting it right out on the table is a way of creating more understanding. And helps to create a bridge between the two parties so that they do not get too lost in the emotionality of the process. This connecting is critical when you share boundaries, especially within your romantic relationship as it helps to hold the container and the safety necessary so that the no does not feel like a rupture of attachment. If your no comes from an authentic, self-honoring place, then it is inherently important, even if uncomfortable, for your partner to know about. The deeper your awareness of this, the more resilient you can be in your stance and more capable of holding the boundary, while holding the temporary hurt or harm your partner feels. We want to get what we want. And we don’t like not getting it. You may find that people use anger and big emotion as a way to manipulate you to change your mind if you have stated a no, when they expected and wanted a yes. People ARE going to push up against you. Be ready for this- notice it and be okay with people having feelings about your inner boundaries. It is okay for people to not like it, or to be upset! It is not a relationship breaker! Without feeding the drama, you can state something along the lines of “I understand that you are angry, and totally get why you are angry, and I am not going to change my mind. Let’s figure out together how else you can get what you need/want!” What to do if you suspect that your partner’s NO stems from fear or avoidance: If you do not understand or trust the motives behind your partner’s No, use this doubt and confusion as an invitation for more understanding. Ask them to tell you more about their No. Where does it come from? What brought them to the No? How is it important to them? This curiosity and compassion will help you understand the deeper place your partner is coming from, while also creating a culture and a conversation that can help any stuckness or fear your partner has that is motivating their No, allowing it to dissipate. When we feel comfortable and respected in our relationships, our boundaries can come from that authentic core needs place, rather than from a more reactive and rigid place. This conversation about boundaries provides a chance for intimacy and connection - enjoy it! Explore it! You ARE going to have a different yes and no than your partner. This understanding is critical in order to provide the flexibility and resilience necessary to get creative! The challenge is not to get on the same page, but rather how to prioritize and protect each other's needs without violating the other’s no. This process encourages creativity and spark! You CAN coexist with a values conflict if you are willing to expand the field a little bit, and start working together to find new solutions. Connect with your partner each day. Take a minimum of 20 minutes each day to check in with each other. Ask each other questions, and listen! How are you feeling about this/that? What are you thinking about? Is there anything I need to know? What is on your heart? Find out what your partner needs for their self-care, and ask more about it. How can I help you? How can I better encourage that for you? How can I support from my end? Frequent quality check-ins help to create an environment where boundary work can happen in a more effective and mutually empowering way! TRY THIS: In an effort to practice stating and receiving nos and yesses, you and your partner can take turns expressing to each other some things that you know your partner will say no to. Notice what it is like to receive a no. To state a no. Then try it with yesses. Feel free to laugh! This exercise is meant to help bring in some humor and take the charged energy out because once you can laugh with each other, you can more easily catch yourselves and turn towards regaining perspective. Chuck Morse is joined by Wesley J. Smith, Fellow at The Discovery Institute and author of "The War on Humans." About the E-book The War On Humans Book CoverThe environmental movement has helped produce significant improvements in the world around us—from cleaner air to the preservation of natural wonders such as Yellowstone. But in recent years, environmental activists have arisen who regard humans as Public Enemy #1. In this provocative e-book, Wesley J. Smith exposes efforts by radical activists to reduce the human population by up to 90% and to grant legal rights to animals, plants, and Mother Earth. Smith argues that the ultimate victims of this misanthropic crusade will be the poorest and most vulnerable among us, and he urges us to defend both human dignity and the natural environment before it is too late. Named by National Journal as one of America’s leading experts in the area of bioethics, attorney Wesley J. Smith is a Senior Fellow of Discovery Institute’s Center on Human Exceptionalism and the previous author of books such as A Rat is a Pig is a Dog is a Boy: The Human Cost of the Animal Rights Movement, Consumer’s Guide to a Brave New World, and Culture of Death: The Assault on Medical Ethics in America. Smith also writes the popular Human Exceptionalism blog at National Review Online. Chapter 5: The “Rights” of Nature Chapter 6: Pea Personhood Chapter 7: Ecocide—A Crime against Humanity? Conclusion: Old Faithful Is Not a Person Excerpt from the Introduction: “People Are the Enemy” In 1972, Canadian science broadcaster David Suzuki told some giggling students, “One of the things I’ve gotten off on lately is that basically… we’re all fruit flies.” But that was just the start: Suzuki then likened us to “maggots” who are “born as an egg” and “eventually hatch out and start crawling around,” eating and “defecating all over the environment.” Denigrating humans as maggots was edgy back in the hippy-dippy days (and Suzuki looked the part with his long-hair and John Lennon-style glasses), but few took such assertions very seriously. They were made to shock or get attention more than to express genuine misanthropy. Back then, the environmental movement didn’t generally denigrate human beings. Rather, it advocated preventing and cleaning up pollution, protecting endangered species, and conservation as a matter of human duty. Those are noble goals, ones which I support. Unfortunately, the primary values of the original environmental movement have gone the way of bell-bottom jeans. In recent years, like termites boring into a building’s foundation (to borrow a Suzuki-type metaphor), anti-humanism has degraded environmentalist thinking and advocacy. Indeed, environmental activists today routinely denigrate humans as parasites, viruses, cancers, bacteria, and murderers of the Earth. Suzuki, now a world-famous celebrity and anti-global warming activist, certainly hasn’t changed his old anti-human views. When asked by a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation interviewer in 2009 about how his “not very optimistic” perception of humanity has changed since he called people maggots, Suzuki merely deflected the question, noting that racism had lessened but also lamented that “Humanity is humanity… I just wish they’d stop being so human!” The popular culture has certainly embraced Suzuki’s anti-humanist theme. Smith… [In The War on Humans] Smith has now written a riveting expose of this multi-dimensional assault on human beings that for life saving reasons—I kid you not—must be read by human beings beyond their political, religious, and all other affiliations.” —Nat Hentoff, Syndicated Columnist “The War on Humans is terrific. Within the world of benign and admirable conservation and ecological-awareness organizations, an irrational and misanthropic ideology has metastasized that in its fanaticism is as dangerous as the fascist and communist crusades of the past century. In The War on Humans, Wesley Smith succinctly exposes the “philosophy” and the aims of this movement, cites its deep unreason, and brilliantly extrapolates the horrors inevitable should it triumph. Sincere conservationists should be concerned if only because anti-humanist thinking has the power, in the social and economic destruction it would create, to discredit even those with humane and reasonable goals of conservation, preservation, clean water, and clean air.” —Dean Koontz, Bestselling Novelist “It used to be said of certain kinds of scientific utopians that they loved humanity, but didn’t like any actual humans. Now many scientific utopians don’t even like humanity. Wesley Smith grasps the dangerous paradox of thinkers whose first step in exalting nature is to attack human nature. In order for nature to have ‘rights,’ it has become necessary for humans to have none. This is always the first step toward tyrannical dehumanization of real human beings. We owe much to Wesley Smith for keeping vigil against this deeply anti-human strain of modern thought, for issuing another timely warning before it is too late to avoid another self-inflicted humanitarian catastrophe.” —Steven Hayward, Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought and Policy, University of Colorado, Boulder
