William Hockey is the co-founder of Plaid and the founder and CEO of Column, a software company that owns a bank and powers Ramp, Wise, Bilt, Mercury, and others. He shares how Silicon Valley's consensus culture produces consensus founders, and why becoming a founder has become too safe. He believes the best builders are specialists and explains with unusual clarity what it takes to become the best in the world at one specific thing. William also spends a lot of time in emerging markets which has given him a unique perspective of the power of the US dollar. Stijn Schmitz welcomes David Hunter to the show. David Hunter is Chief Macro Strategist with Contrarian Macro Advisors. David provides a comprehensive macro outlook that anticipates a significant market transformation in the coming years. He believes the current market is in the late stages of a 43-year secular bull market, with a potential melt-up phase that could see the S&P 500 reaching 9,500 by mid-year or Labor Day. However, he warns of an impending “bust” that could result in an 80% market decline, potentially worse than the 2008-2009 financial crisis. Hunter’s analysis suggests a complex economic landscape where initial deflationary pressures will give way to potentially hyperinflationary conditions by the early 2030s. He anticipates central banks will be slow to respond to the economic downturn, potentially requiring up to 20 trillion in quantitative easing to stabilize the system. The federal balance sheet could expand from the current 6.5 trillion to as much as 30 trillion. Regarding asset classes, Hunter recommends a strategic approach to capital preservation. He believes the current investment mantra of “time in the market” will be insufficient and investors should consider carefully timing their exit from markets. He expects significant opportunities in commodities and industrial sectors, with potential dramatic price increases in oil, copper, and precious metals. For gold specifically, Hunter forecasts a potential rise to $6,800 this year and potentially $20,000 by the early 2030s. He views gold as a potential hedge against the massive economic restructuring he anticipates. His outlook extends to a potential systemic financial reset between 2033-2035, which he describes as the end of an 80-90 year economic supercycle. Hunter emphasizes that while the coming economic transformation will be challenging, it will also create new investment opportunities, particularly in industrial and commodity sectors. He advises investors to remain flexible and prepared for significant market disruptions.

Markets are at a critical level — here's what to watch before the open. The S&P is sitting on 100-day moving average support after three weeks of testing, and futures point to a ~1% gap down at the open. The key question: do markets close below the 100-DMA and confirm a topping process — or do bulls recover into the close? In this pre-market breakdown:
We are waking up to a world significantly shifted by an unprecedented military escalation in the Middle East. In this morning's episode of BizNews Daybreak, Alec Hogg breaks down the immediate geopolitical and economic fallout of the United States and Israel launching direct military operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran. In this episode, we cover: The Frontlines: The timeline of the rapid escalation, including the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Hezbollah's retaliatory missile strikes into Israel, and the barrage of US and Israeli strikes on Beirut. Market Shockwaves: How global financial markets are aggressively de-risking. Asian and Australian markets opened broadly lower, while safe-haven assets are surging, with gold jumping $150 to $5,370 an ounce. The Local Impact: What this means for South Africans, including warnings of skyrocketing fuel prices as crude oil surges 7% to over $70 a barrel, and the Rand weakening to over R16 against the US Dollar. Regional Instability: The terrifying reality for civilians in the Gulf, as intercepted missile debris damages infrastructure in traditionally stable hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Looking Ahead: A preview of our upcoming interview with South African-Iranian economist Iraj Abedian, and an announcement regarding 50 newly released tickets for next week's BizNews Conference in Hermanus where the focus shifts to Opportunities in Dangerous Times.
In today's episode of BizNews Daybreak for Friday, 27th February 2026, Alec Hogg unpacks the latest market movements and geopolitical shifts you need to win the day. Here is what is on the agenda for today: Market Movements: The Rand is holding steady at R15.90 to the US Dollar, alongside a solid gold price, while Wall Street experienced a bumpy overnight session, with tech giants like Nvidia and ASML taking a hit. Local Post-Budget Winners: Nedbank and Discovery shares jumped 8% following the budget, while traders also favoured HCI and Lewis. Offshore Limits Doubled: Great news for offshore investors, as the budget revealed the single discretionary allowance has doubled to R2 million, allowing married couples to move R4 million abroad annually without SARS tax clearance delays. Post-Budget Breakfast Insights: Alec shares exclusive audio from the Brand SA/Treasury breakfast featuring Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana discussing structural reforms and his take on "neo-liberals". Netflix Surges: Netflix shares jumped 9% after hours following the company's decision to withdraw from its bid to acquire Warner Bros. The Global Chip War: A deep dive into the semiconductor industry with Tufts University professor and Chip Wars author Chris Miller, exploring the world's heavy reliance on Taiwan. Banking Red Flags: The FT News Briefing reveals how Deutsche Bank ignored glaring compliance issues to secure business from Jeffrey Epstein back in 2013.

Mike and Dr. Mike – Isn't it odd that on what seems to be the eve of a U.S. attack on Iran, violent demonstrations and protests have again started inside Iran to serve as another casus belli? This development certainly is occurring thanks to Israeli intelligence operations. Iranians and all Middle Easterners also have heard the U.S. Ambassador in Israel claim that all of...

Derek Halpenny, Head of Research Global Markets EMEA & International Securities speaks to Simon Mayes, Head of FX Sales for the UK and Ireland about the moves of the dollar this week. Derek also outlines elements of PM Takaichi's speech and the implications for the yen and JGBs.
Gold is reclaiming its spotlight. Prices have leapt sharply, and demand is spilling beyond financial instruments into tangible bullion. Global politics, currency swings, and market volatility are colliding in a mix that feels both chaotic and strangely familiar. Amid the relentless news cycle, distinct patterns are emerging: a revived fascination with gold, growing doubts over the US dollar's dominance, and a long‑anticipated revival in non‑US markets. In this episode of Expat Wealth, Richard Taylor – dual UK/US citizen, Chartered Financial Planner, and experienced International Wealth Advisor – is joined by Brian Dunhill – founder of Dunhill Financial – to discuss the new phase in the global economy: the American dollar's dominance being gently eroded, non‑US markets are finally having their moment, AI is changing workflows more than it's destroying jobs (so far), and for expats and cross‑border families, thoughtful Cross-Border Financial Planning is more important than ever. In this episode, Richard and Brian take a detailed look at: Why gold and silver have surged, and why they should be seen as trades rather than long‑term investments. The political devaluation of the US dollar, what a weaker dollar means, and how expats should think about currency risk. The gradual decoupling from the US dollar as the world's reserve currency, and how China and others are positioning themselves. The outperformance of International Wealth and emerging markets vs the US, and why Brian thinks this is part of a bigger structural shift, not a flash in the pan. The AI investment boom, the “magnificent seven,” and whether large language models are truly transformative or just efficiency tools. -- Expat Wealth is supported by Plan First Wealth. This week on the podcast, we're sharing highlights from a conversation at the 8th Annual Haskayne School of Business PETRONAS International Energy Speaker Series held on February 11, 2026. Jackie Forrest moderated a sold-out session featuring award-winning author Edward Fishman, whose recent book Chokepoints: American Power in the Age of Economic Warfare, explores the rise of U.S. geoeconomic strategy. Mr. Fishman is a Senior Research Scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy and an Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Joining the discussion was Robert (RJ) Johnston, Director of Energy and Natural Resources Policy at the University of Calgary's School of Public Policy. The conversation explores a wide range of issues, including the United States' use of tariffs as a tool of economic warfare, the potential for expanded investment and trade between Canada and China, how such a shift might be viewed by the U.S., and key lessons from American intervention in Venezuela. The panel also discusses the prospects for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, whether a weakening U.S. dollar could diminish America's ability to deploy economic statecraft, and, finally, whether China's growing self-sufficiency could ultimately reduce the effectiveness of U.S. sanctions and leverage. The episode concludes with Peter and Jackie sharing their reflections on the discussion, offering their own perspectives, and examining the issues through a Canadian lens. WHAT THE HELL? PUTIN WANTS US DOLLARS!!
Peter Schiff explains why today's “better than expected” jobs report is meaningless—and why the real story is the massive downward revisions. The government erased roughly 2.5 million jobs going back to 2019, including about 1.1 million from 2025 and over 800,000 from 2024. That means many of the celebrated “beats” from the past two years were actually misses, and markets were trading on bad data. This episode is sponsored by NetSuite. Download the free “Demystifying AI” at https://netsuite.com/goldSchiff breaks down how automated trading reacts to jobs prints (strong jobs = buy dollars/sell gold), why the birth/death model distorted reality, and why gold and the dollar are no longer reacting the way they used to. He also covers rising oil and oil stocks, why gold and silver miners may hit new highs before the metals, why foreign markets are crushing U.S. stocks year-to-date, and why the dollar index looks set up for a sharper decline. Finally, Schiff argues the crypto crash is the first bubble to pop—an early warning for broader asset bubbles—and explains why tokenized gold is becoming the real “digital money” narrative as Bitcoin's “digital gold” claim fails in real time.Chapters:00:00 Introduction and Opening Remarks00:56 Analyzing the Employment Report03:06 Revisions and Job Market Realities07:17 Impact on Markets and Currency11:41 Oil and Energy Market Trends16:24 Stock Market Performance and Predictions26:06 Economic Data and Debt Discussion31:04 Inflation and Its Consequences34:11 Understanding Poverty and Supply35:52 The Role of the US Dollar in Global Trade37:07 Impact of Dollar Collapse on Global Markets40:11 Trump Administration's Economic Policies41:51 Bitcoin's Decline and Market Bubbles52:21 The Future of Gold and Tokenization58:34 Preparing for Economic CrisisFollow @peterschiffX: https://twitter.com/peterschiffInstagram: https://instagram.com/peterschiffTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@peterschiffofficialFacebook: https://facebook.com/peterschiffSign up for Peter's most valuable insights at https://schiffsovereign.comSchiff Gold News: https://www.schiffgold.com/newsFree Reports & Market Updates: https://www.europac.comBook Store: https://schiffradio.com/books#economiccrisis #jobmarketanalysis #goldinvestmentOur Sponsors:* Check out GhostBed: https://ghostbed.com/PETER* Check out TruDiagnostic and use my code GOLD20 for a great deal: https://www.trudiagnostic.comPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Amazon - Trimming.... 30,000 jobs is plan - First half of that was in October and now trhery are laying off the remainder - CEO Jassey says that it is not financial of AI issues ---- Again - why so important to state that and make that a focal point? - Layoffs amount to 10% of the corporate workforce - Company still has 1.5 million employees Comeback? - Spirit Airlines is in talks with investment firm Castlelake for a potential takeover of the discount airline, CNBC has learned. - Remember, all started when Jetblue deal was blocked - Frontier tried - Spirit tried a few times to get head above water - nothing worked Booz Cancelled - Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent canceled department contracts with the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, whose employee leaked President Donald Trump's tax records to The New York Times. - The department noted that between 2018 and 2020, Booz Allen employee Charles Edward Littlejohn “stole and leaked the confidential tax returns and return information of hundreds of thousands of taxpayers.” - Booz Allen Hamilton's stock price dropped by more than 10% on the heels of the Treasury Department's announcement. - Why does Booz have tax records in the first place? - Stock down 50% since end of 2024 Private Credit - BlackRock TCP Capital shares lower by 13% after it disclosed Friday night that net asset value declined approximately 19.0%; other private credit stocks falling in sympathy - The Company's net asset value per share as of December 31, 2025 to be between approximately $7.05 and $7.09, an anticipated decline of approximately 19.0% during the quarter ended December 31, 2025, compared to a net asset value per share of $8.71 as of September 30, 2025. - This decline is primarily driven by issuer-specific developments during the quarter. - The Company's net investment income per share to be between approximately $0.24 and $0.26 for the three months ended December 31, 2025. - Decliners: TCPC -13.40% OWL -3.07% ARES -3.30% KKR -2.08% BAM -0.41% CG -0.33% Zoom Communications - Valuation of Anthropic stake - The news is driving shares higher as analysts suggest ZM's $51 mln stake could now be worth between $2-$4 bln based on Anthropic's rumored $350 bln valuation, effectively acting as a "hidden gem" on its balance sheet. - From a fundamental perspective, the company's performance has also significantly improved, evidenced by its Q3 beat-and-raise report in late November where revenue rose 4.4% yr/yr to $1.23 bln. - This stronger financial performance is being driven by robust growth in the Enterprise segment, the rapid adoption of AI Companion features, and the scaling of adjacent growth businesses like Zoom Contact Center and Workvivo. - Consequently, the combination of high-margin operational rigor -- highlighted by a 41.2% non-GAAP operating margin -- and the massive unrealized gains from its AI investments has shifted investor sentiment firmly back toward growth. UNH and Health Stocks - DOWN 20% today - The administration's proposal (via the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS) for Medicare Advantage reimbursement rates to rise by only 0.09% in 2027. This was far below Wall Street expectations of 4-6% (or higher), following a more generous ~5% increase for 2026. - The near-flat rate aims to improve payment accuracy, curb overbilling practices, and protect taxpayers, according to CMS statements, but it sparked widespread concerns about squeezed insurer margins, potential benefit cuts for seniors, reduced plan offerings, or market exits. - UnitedHealth has significant exposure to Medicare Advantage (roughly 30% of national enrollment), making it particularly vulnerable. The proposal, announced late Monday (January 26), led to a broader sell-off in health insurers: - - Humana (HUM) plunged over 20-21%. - - CVS Health (CVS) and Elevance Health (ELV) each dropped around 13-14%. Tech Earnings Microsoft (MSFT) Reports: Wednesday, January 28 (After Market Close) - Wall Street Expectations: Earnings per share (EPS): about $3.86 and Revenue: about $80 billion - Growth: high teens year over year revenue growth - Investors are focused on Azure and broader cloud growth, particularly how much of that growth is coming from AI related demand. Microsoft has built a reputation for consistent execution, which also means expectations are high. The critical issues will be cloud growth sustainability, margin stability, and how aggressively management plans to keep spending on AI infrastructure. Meta Platforms (META) Reports: Wednesday, January 28 (After Market Close) - Wall Street Expectations: EPS: about $8.15–$8.20 and Revenue: about $58–$59 billion - Growth: roughly 20–21% year over year revenue growth - Advertising remains the core driver, with AI driven ad targeting continuing to improve returns for advertisers. While topline growth expectations remain strong, investors are closely watching expense growth. The biggest question is whether rising AI and infrastructure spending can be managed without eroding margins or spooking investors, as Meta works through the next phase of its AI strategy. Tesla (TSLA) Reports: Wednesday, January 28 (After Market Close) - Wall Street Expectations: EPS (non GAAP): about $0.40–$0.45 and Revenue: about $24.5–$25 billion - Trend: earnings expected to be sharply lower than a year ago - Tesla enters earnings with the weakest expectations among the major tech names this week. Vehicle deliveries declined year over year, and automotive margins remain under pressure. While the energy and services segments continue to grow, they are not yet large enough to offset slowing EV demand. - Investors will be far more focused on forward guidance than on the quarter itself—particularly updates on Full Self Driving, robotaxis, and the broader AI roadmap. Apple (AAPL) Reports: Thursday, January 29 (After Market Close) Wall Street Expectations - EPS: about $2.65–$2.67 and Revenue: about $138 billion Growth: approximately 11–12% year over year revenue growth - This is Apple's most important quarter of the year. Expectations call for record revenue driven by the iPhone 17 cycle and continued Services growth. The focus will be on margins, China demand, and forward guidance—particularly how higher costs (memory prices and tariffs) may impact profitability. Apple typically beats expectations, but the stock reaction will hinge on what management says about growth beyond this quarter. Company Ticker Report Date Est.
