Full Text of ReadingsMonday of Holy Week Lectionary: 257The Saint of the day is Blessed Peter GonzalezBlessed Peter Gonzalez's Story Saint Paul had a conversion experience on the road to Damascus. Many years later, the same proved true for Peter Gonzalez, who triumphantly rode his horse into the Spanish city of Astorga in the 13th century to take up an important post at the cathedral. The animal stumbled and fell, leaving Peter in the mud and onlookers amused. Humbled, Peter reevaluated his motivations—his bishop-uncle had secured the cathedral post for him—and started down a new path. He became a Dominican priest and proved to be a most effective preacher. He spent much of his time as court chaplain, and attempted to exert positive influence on the behavior of members of the court. After King Ferdinand III and his troops defeated the Moors at Cordoba, Peter was successful in restraining the soldiers from pillaging, and persuaded the king to treat the defeated Moors with compassion. After retiring from the court, Peter devoted the remainder of his life to preaching in northwest Spain. Having developed a special mission to Spanish and Portuguese seamen, he is considered their patron. Peter Gonzalez died in 1246 and was beatified in 1741. Reflection How often we have heard stories about some misfortune or disaster only to hear later on that it was now seen as a good thing. Not every “disaster” is truly bad in its consequences for the Lord can bring good out of what appears to be a misfortune. Such was the case for Blessed Peter. His being dumped in the mud by a falling horse turned out to be a good thing in his life. While we didn't get a view of open practice, the media did get to speak with the important members of Penn State's offense. So on today's BWI Live show, we're reviewing our conversations with quarterback Drew Allar, offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and head coach James Franklin. Join us live on YouTube or check out the replay embedded in this article. BWI Live is your home for Penn State football conversation every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday! Starting on Aug. 26, we'll also provide you with James Franklin's Tuesday press conference as a live replay immediately following the conclusion of his remarks. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube so you don't miss any important news from the Nittany Lions! Penn State head coach James Franklin discusses his team's progress Franklin spoke with the media for roughly ten minutes. We'll focus on just a few answers from his comments. Check out the full press conference here if you'd like to hear them in detail. Pickel noted that Franklin commented on the team's "bumps and bruises" during camp and discusses those updates for fans to give them a sense of where the team is at from a health perspective. We'll also discuss the news that Peter Gonzalez suffered a significant injury and will be out for an extended period. What does that do to the team's receiver room? We'll discuss. Andy Kotelnicki You'll also hear from Kotelnicki and his thoughts on the team's offense so far during camp. He discusses how the team can play up to eight offensive linemen in a game or season and how offensive line coach Phil Trautwein accomplishes that task. He also discussed how a team creates explosive plays without just attacking downfield in the passing game. That conversation led to one about having the right blend of players on the field at one time and putting players in a position to accentuate their skills. We'll discuss what that means for the Penn State offense and the players who will make up the top targets and ball carriers on Saturdays. Sunday Film Study Finally, we'll discuss the Sunday Film Study from this past weekend on 2024 foe, Wisconsin. Penn State hasn't played the Badgers since 2021, and the team is radically different under new head coach Luke Fickell. We'll give you a high-level overview of the changes in offense and defense from last season and discuss what that means for Penn State when the team heads to Madison in October. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Get the 2024 Penn State Football Preview Magazine at https://bit.ly/PSU24Preview Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com The Blueprint for how Penn State can be EXPLOSIVE on offense | Practice interview recap Learn more about your ad choices. On today's BWI Live Recruiting Show, we'll discuss the importance of these prospects, the outlook for the summer when hosting a prospect for the first weekend of the summer period, and more. Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube to get in on the conversation! We'll also discuss the next wave of potential Penn State recruits heading to Happy Valley on Saturday and Sunday for the team's first summer prospect camps. Will the team find another Peter Gonzalez, who blew away the team's testing drills at this time last year on the way to an official visit and commitment? We'll discuss the team's process of identifying and recruiting players today. Now is a perfect time to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. The team will get several critical recruiting commitments over the next few months, and the best way to know when that happens is to subscribe and enable notifications so you know when we drop a commitment video. Penn State official visit weekend This weekend's visitors descend on Happy Valley starting on Friday, May 31. The team has gone quiet with commitments since before the Blue-White Game in April with running back Alvin Henderson. So who might be the next player to take the plunge? The defensive roster for the recruiting class of 2025 is sparse so a commitment from edge defender Cedric Works or Max Granville would be a big win for Penn State. Yet the headliners for this weekend are the receivers. Quincy Porter, Lex Cyrus and Corey Simms will each try Penn State on for size over the next several days. Will any join Lyric Samuel in the receiver room? We'll also discuss the impact of getting the nation's top linebacker Ty Jackson to campus. Can the Nittany Lions snag the elite Florida recruit? Prospect camps start this weekend On top of the critical visitors coming to campus, the team needs to find the next wave of recruits. Prospect camps start on Saturday and continue on Sunday. Last year, Peter Gonzalez put together an impressive performance that landed him a scholarship offer and a spot in the Class of 2024. Are there any players who might fit that bill this year? We'll also discuss how important these camps are for the recruiting department for the next cycle in 2026. Join us! Many situations, players, and decisions will affect the ultimate outcome, but not all in the way. On today's BWI Live Football Show, we're discussing those things that hold an oversized place in our minds about the upcoming season. To end the show, we'll also be taking your questions in the BWI Live Mailbag. Join us at 10 a.m. on YouTube or check out the replay embedded in this article. Fitz's Recruiting Update The Big 33 All-Star game between Pennsylvania and Maryland happened last weekend, with three future Penn State football players competing. The star of the event was Nittany Lions commit Tyseer Denmark, who had three touchdowns in the standout performance. What did BWI Publisher Sean Fitz take from the game? He highlights Denmark, run-on Aaron Enterline, and defenisve back commit Kenny Woseley on today's feature. From there, we discuss the Penn State wide receiver room further and try to properly contextualize the role that Denmark or fellow freshman Peter Gonzalez can have on the 2024 season. Penn State news updates We start this week's news update by reviewing the Penn State Board of Trustees meeting from last Tuesday. The board overwhelmingly voted to fund the renovations to the stadium last week, which we previewed before the event. However, we're reviewing the arguments made during the meeting for the positive and negative votes. We also take a question from the chat about preserving the ambiance of Penn State's home field while providing a modern and luxurious experience. Next, we review the civil suit by former Penn State team doctor Scott Lynch. Dr. Lynch sued the university for what he alleged was a retaliatory firing by the program. We discuss the prosecution's claims and preview what the defense is likely to counter with. Most Overrated Storylines for the upcoming season Today's main topic surrounds the overrated ideas and narratives about the team's performance this fall. Is Abdul Carter's move to the defensive end a major negative impact on the linebackers? Will he be a game-changer as an edge rusher? We debate if those topics are overrated in the conversation about this upcoming season. Next, we discuss the third rail of the Penn State offense. We all agree that the Lion's passing attack is a key issue for the team this fall. However, we debate the idea that Drew Allar has to be an elite quarterback for the offense to function better than it did last year. Is that true? Or is it overrated? Finally, we discuss the topics you want to discuss on the BWI Mailbag to close out the show. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Most overrated Penn State storylines for 2024 Learn more about your ad choices. Join the show to hear how quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer, running back Quinton Martin, receiver Peter Gonzalez and defensive end Mylachi Williams, among others, have done so far this year. Penn State commit stats Earlier this week, Snyder wrote about the offensive and defensive players who have so far this year. https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/how-have-penn-states-2024-defensive-commits-performed-so-far-this-season/ https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/how-have-penn-states-2024-offensive-commits-performed-so-far-this-season/ On today's show, Snyder will highlight the players that stood out to him during his class performance research. Penn State linebacker commit Anthony Speca is “Penn State's most impressive players this season” from a statistical standpoint. Snyder will explain how prolific Speca has been and the show will discuss where he's improved during his final year in high school. Offensively, Snyder broke down Grunkemeyer's season game-by-game. He discusses the impact that the senior quarterback has had on his team's win-loss record as well. We'll break down the offensive players and their individual impacts on their teams as well. Blue-Chip talent While the Penn State Class of 2024 ranks outside the top ten, it doesn't mean they're without serious talent. We'll discuss an article from Greg Pickel earlier today, outlining an impressive fact about the makeup of the team's 2024 class. Snyder will also give his thoughts on the current Penn State squad's performance through five games and what sort of second half he expects them to have in 2023. What sort of impact can this year have on 2024 and beyond? We'll get his thoughts about the new Big Ten schedule and how the Nittany Lion's path to a future playoff berth shakes out. We'll address that, and how things went this weekend with some top prospects on the BWI Live Recruiting Show. Join host Thomas Frank Carr and BWI recruiting insider Sean Fitz to discuss the impression Penn State made on its top defensive line prospects, how the team positioned itself heading into the final week of official visits, and what to expect next with the class. They'll discuss that, and take your questions and comments live on the show. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and join the show at 10 am! Penn State about to break through at defensive tackle? New position coach Deion Barnes has one recruit committed at his position but hosted several of the top interior prospects on the team's board this weekend. How did the visit go for Canadian Benedict Umeh? What about out-of-region prospect TA Cunningham? Fitz reveals some of what he learned about this weekend, which was focused on the defensive line. But receiver is the defensive line's roommate in the underserved part of the 2024 class. With several receiver prospects already through campus, Penn State receiver's coach Marques Hagans has positioned the team very well heading into the final weekend. How did things go with Pittsburgh native Peter Gonzalez? And when will one of Penn State's top receivers make a move? Outlook for the rest of the summer Finally, T-Frank and Fitz will sit down and examine where Penn State's class stands right now. They'll break down the recruits by position and go through the latest news outside visit weekends. Fitz explains the situation with recently decommitted lineman Deryc Plazz. Then they'll highlight other trouble potentially brewing on the class roster. Finally, they'll wrap up the show by looking at the latest Penn State offers, which include two legacy players in the Class of 2024 and 2026. Penn State's current 2024 class stands at 17 commitments and ranks 12th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten. On3 has begun officially including USC and UCLA in Big Ten rankings, bumping the Nittany Lions down below the Southern California school in the conference rankings. Wisconsin is the next closest school, ranking 23rd in the nation. Join the show at 10 am to discuss these topics and more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Penn State football recruiting had a jam-packed Sunday to kick off the official visit season. The team secured three more recruits for the Class of 2024 and hosted its first prospect camp of the summer in the same day. We'll cover all of that today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show. Host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder discuss the impact of Penn State's latest surge of commitments and review who stood out to them during Penn State's first prospect camp of the summer. It was an important day for Central Catholic wide receiver Peter Gonzalez, who has an official visit set for later this month. Did he ace his final audition? Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube so you don't miss any live content during the summer recruiting season. Stay tuned later this week for a conversation with quarterbacks coach Brad Maendler. Maendler is the private coach for Penn State commit Ethan Grunkmeyer and current Lions QB Drew Allar. Penn State locks up key defensive targets and a rising tackle commit The biggest news of Sunday was the massive recruiting run that the Nittany Lions secured on Sunday after its first official visit weekend of the season. Offensive lineman Deryc Plazz was the first to announced his commitment Sunday, followed by defensive tackle Xaveir Gilliam and finally top safety prospect Dejuan Lane. Snyder will recap Plazz's story, which includes a quick ascent up the Penn State tackle board. With so many players in the Class, T-Frank will discuss where Plazz fits in the group. Next, they'll switch to Lane and discuss what is known in the recruitment of four-star safety. They'll also answer the question of Lane's ranking. Is he underrated? Finally, they'll turn to Gilliam and spend time discussing where he fits on Penn State's defensive tackle board, what he brings to the table and more. Peter Gonzalez stands out at Prospect camp Consensus three-star receiver Peter Gonzalez was the main story of SUnday's prospect camp. The Pittsburgh native has an offer from Penn State and an official visit for later this summer, but the program wanted him to camp first to get a final testing measurement on him. Snyder and T-Frank will share what they saw and the data they gathered on Gonzalez throughout the afternoon. Did he earn himself a spot in the Penn State Class of 2024? They'll also discuss the other committed players at camp, including offensive lineman Caleb Brewer and linebacker Anthony Speca. From there, they'll discuss the other players that stood out on Sunday. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
