Whenever I talk about charity, a type that I'll call the “based post-Christian vitalist” shows up in the comments to tell me that I've got it all wrong. The moral impulse tells us to help our family, friends, and maybe village. It's a weird misfire, analogous to an auto-immune disease, to waste brain cycles on starving children in a far-off country who you'll never meet. You've been cucked by centuries of Christian propaganda. Instead of the slave morality that yokes you to loser victims who wouldn't give you the time of day if your situations were reversed, you should cultivate a master morality that lets you love the strong people who push forward human civilization. A younger and more naive person might think the based post-Christian vitalist and I have some irreconcilable moral difference. Moral argument can only determine which conclusions follow from certain premises. If premises are too different (for example, a intuitive feeling of compassion for others, vs. an intuitive feeling of strength and pitilessness), there's no way to proceed. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/everyones-a-based-post-christian

Things are heating up! With the upcoming conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus on the 20th, personal revolution is in the air. In this video, we will explore what this seeding time might look like in your life and apply the Vitalist tradition of healing. In Vitalism, the "Law of the Direction of Cure" states that all healing starts from the core of the body (the stomach) and emanates outward. Therefore, when looking to strengthen our vital force, we should start with the stomach or the seat of digestion and work our way out. The three places and herbs, from the center to the periphery, for this powerful time are: 1. Digestive Core - Supporting the Gut Microbiome and Digestive Fire with Garlic, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Burdock. 2. Nervous System - Supporting the Nervous System with Solomon's Seal 3. Skin and Subtle Body - Supporting the radiance and glow of the skin and subtle body with Turmeric milk. RESOURCES Study Vitalism and Herbs in the 2024 Sky House Herbal Apprenticeship Program! Have you come across the idea of allopathic herbalism? This approach often highlights specific symptoms and conditions that certain herbs are “good for.” However, it has a limitation: it doesn't address the root causes of diseases. To achieve profound healing, it's crucial to go beyond simply matching herbs with symptoms. Embracing the traditional vitalist herbalism philosophy lets you explore the underlying energies beneath disease symptoms. This empowers you to choose herbs confidently, ensuring they consistently bring about lasting and effective healing results. In today's episode, you'll learn: Ways to avoid the trap of allopathic herbalism How to heal by working with your body instead of against it Why you shouldn't ignore symptoms and what they're trying to tell you How to deepen your connection with nature and uncover the meaning behind herbs, changing seasons, and the weather ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at: http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/ Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/ ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. Science and spirituality are often painted as opposing forces. When this philosophy makes it into herbalism, you get a big divide between herbalists. Depending on their perspective, herbalists will typically choose a scientific or spiritual approach to healing. The problem with picking a side is that you only get one half of the picture. By seeing the unity of science and spirit and the importance of each, you can become a truly holistic healer. In today's blog post, you'll learn: The key to transformational healing through embracing the science and spirit in herbalism That plants possess consciousness and work beyond physical symptoms to address the heart, mind, and spirit Why science isn't always able to explain how herbs work How sickness is a complex interplay of physical and spiritual imbalances Ways plant intelligence influences its biochemical makeup About spagyrics, a spiritual herbal pharmacy that concentrates the scientific and spiritual properties of herbs The Evolutionary Herbalism model for integrating science and spirit for holistic healing ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at: http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/ Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/ ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. We are very excited to finally share with you Marnie's debut memoir, My Song, Unleashed. About the Book: As a child, Marnie's unique voice earned her the nickname “The Rasp” from her dad. When other adults told her she'd never be a singer or that she talked too much, not only did Marnie start silencing herself, but she also began questioning her internal voice. She knew when she shared her truth—the way she'd done during a schoolwide presentation as a teen—it was life- changing. But more often, like many young women trying to make their way in the world, she muted and molded herself to accommodate others. It wasn't until she traveled abroad and created a life far from home that she started finding her way back to her inner voice. And as she continued to explore the globe and connect with nature and with others, she discovered her inner voice was amplified. In her memoir, “My Song, Unleashed,” Marnie Dachis Marmet takes readers through her journey of personal transformation. From the painful experiences that make her question everything to the beautiful revelations that bare the truth, Marnie ultimately shares what every woman needs to know: When you pay attention to and trust your voice, it leads you to what you truly want and value and, ultimately, what makes your heart sing. In today's episode we discuss: Marnie's journey on writing and completing her memoir We also dive into different parts of the memoir and how they pertain to Marnie's life today No spoilers here :) In "My Song, Unleashed," Marnie Dachis Marmet opens her heart and shares her deeply personal experiences, inviting readers into her world of triumphs, challenges, and self-reflection. The honesty and vulnerability with which she writes create an immediate connection, making this book a truly transformative read. Pre-order a copy of Marnie's memoir today. Welcome to Protecting and Promoting Naturopathy, a podcast powered by American Naturopathic Medical Association. To celebrate 45 years of the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board, we are continuing our series where we will be interviewing schools certified by ANMCB. This month, we are showcasing the Director of The Vitalist's Academy of Biomagnetic Adjustment, Ruth Salgado. Ruth Salgado, R.N., graduated from Purdue University and became a Registered Nurse. Once she discovered the Biomagnetic Adjustment Modality, her life changed for the better and was never the same. She knew at once that she had to collaborate closely with the founders to find a way to make this modality available to those outside of Mexico and Latin America. Thus, commenced the innovative Vitalist's Academy of Biomagnetic Adjustment, which is dedicated in preparing students for achieving success in their biomagnetic adjustments on their recipients. Ruth is an expert in performing biomagnetic adjustments, specializing in allergies, auto-immune disorders, gastric-intestinal equilibrium, organ transplant wellness and cerebrospinal/nerve disorders. She is an avid researcher with interests that span clinical, energetic and basic research. Ruth is committed to finding innovative techniques using the North Polarity of magnets with the goal of improving outcomes and overall quality of life for recipients. Her skill and unwavering dedication to enhancing care for very ill recipients allowed her to pioneer this unique, non-invasive and customized modality here in the United States of America. She currently is the Director of the Academy and one of the instructors. Is vitex really "the great hormone balancer" of herbs? If you've ever googled “hormone balancing herbs” I bet you've found a list of herbs including vitex (or chaste tree berry). It's probably one of the most well-known herbs for hormonal regulation in modern practice. And for good reason. People work with vitex for fertility, irregular cycles, irregular bleeding, estrogen dominant conditions, PCOS, psychological and physical PMS and PMDD, and to reduce things like hot flashes and support vaginal tissues perimenopausally. But is vitex good for everyone? The answer is more complicated, and really depends on the specific picture that's showing up in your own body. It's not about the condition, it's really about what's causing that condition.Put simply, vitex is an incredibly effective herb for some people, and not the right one for others. So, can vitex help you? Ahh, hormones. From menarche to menopause (and even sometimes beyond), we live in the cyclic flow of reproductive and generative hormones like estrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH, prolactin, and more. Our ovaries and brains are involved, and not surprisingly, our hormones are impacted by almost everything we do, including our stress, our sleep, our activity levels, our food, and even our exposures to environmental toxins. There's really nothing in our lives that doesn't somehow impact our hormonal health. Which is what makes it so fascinating, and also sometimes complicated. That said, from an herbal perspective there are some foundational pillars that can support overall hormonal well-being, which I prefer NOT to call balance, and instead to think of as a vibrant and healthy "dynamic flow."Listen to this episode to learn:why I don't like to refer to hormonal health as "balance"how preventative herbal approaches are essential in hormonal health5 foundational keys to supporting your hormoneswhy I consider softening to be an essential component and what this meanswhat Ayurveda teaches us about nourishing our sexual + reproductive organsResources:Gardening for your menstrual health (free guide)Dandelion Love recipes (free collection)Episode 11: Herbal spotlight on dandelionEpisode 12: Medicinal teas for your hormonal healthEpisode 13: Vitalist approach to balancing hormones with Heather LunaEpisode 17: How stress messes with our hormonesEpisode 18: Herbal uterine tonicsEpisode 22: Herbal spotlight on nettlesIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom. This is a very special interview I did with my amazing daughter, Stella. She tells her story of how she found her passion for the healing arts after a very stressful time in her life when she was going to college and living in a dorm room. When she told my husband and I that she wanted to drop out of college, it was a little shocking, but it turned out to be the perfect path for her to take. At some point, parenting becomes about sitting back and observing and staying out of the way... Rather than trying to make something happen that YOU think should happen. Stella is a medical herbalist in the Vitalist tradition, a certified massage therapist (Thai Massage), permaculturist, and homesteader. She is wise, grounded and clear about what she wants and it is a breath of fresh air to listen to her talk about the things she holds dear to her heart. In this interview, we discuss self-care, nutrition, sustainable farming practices, medicinal herbs, two of the most crucial nutrients you need to achieve optimal wellness (especially in women) when it comes to ovarian cysts, fibrocystic breast, and thyroid disorders. In this interview, we mention the work of Dr. Jorge Fletchas, Dr. James DiNicolantonio (BOOK-The Salt Fix), and Dr. Brownstein (BOOK-Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It). You can find Stella on Instagram-@seedthechanges & calendly.com/seedthechanges In this interview, we discuss nutrition, self-care, sustainable farming practices, medicinal herbs, two crucial nutrients you need to achieve optimal wellness, and much more...Mary Beauchamp is a Registered Nurse, Author, Therapeutic Nutritionist, and Certified GAPS Practitioner (Gut And Psychology Syndrome). She gives people specific tools so they can shift their metabolism into ketosis for improved metabolic health so they can live their best life. Stella is a student of nature, a Vitalist Herbalist, massage therapist, permaculturist, and homesteader who shares the story of her difficult journey through college and how it ultimately ignited her passion for the healing arts... What does hormone balancing even mean? It's a term that's thrown around all over the internet without a whole lot of specifics. People might be talking about hot flashes or heavy bleeding, PCOS or endometriosis, mood swings or menstrual cramps. Or even thyroid imbalances. It's pretty much a catch-all phrase that relates to anything that could go wrong with the magical symphony of chemical messengers in your body that are... hormones. And while it can be helpful to know specifically what your symptoms are to explore ways to address those with a a more individualized approach, clinical herbalist and nutritionist Heather Luna shares all about her very whole-body, whole life-perspective based in the therapeutic paradigm of vitalism, which is the foundation of her longstanding clinical practice. In this episode, we have Sajah Popham back on the podcast! Sajah is author of Evolutionary Herbalism and the founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism, where he trains herbalists in a holistic system of plant medicine that encompasses clinical western herbalism, medical astrology, Ayurveda, and spagyric alchemy. You’ll learn what is vitalist herbalism and how it’s different from allopathic herbalism. And yes, it is possible to work with herbs in a NON-holistic way! Sajah gives examples of vitalism through mechanisms of the body, such as a fever, and how to support this natural response with the right herbs at the right time. I am an herbalist in the Vitalist tradition. My strategy as a healer is that I look at the whole person, Mind, Body, Spirit, and I support and build the Vitality so the expression of the Life Power can increase. I have always loved the dirt and growing things, and I have always felt a connection with the Earth. Lucy is a personal mind trainer and teaches her clients how to LIVE. She is a "vitalist," which is a theory about life that was once accepted in our society, but not longer considered relevant. Lucy feels this opinion is wrong because the mind and body need to work in sync for people to achieve true wellness. She is a graduate of the College of Integrative Nutrition and is a certified Aroma Freedom Techniques Practitioner. She operates her health coaching business in Northwest Ohio. In this first of two episodes, we discuss what a health coach is and why people need a coach. We talk about why we struggle with self care and why people go from doctor-to-doctor with no help for their chronic health issues. We also talk about what it really means to live the best life possible, and how resiliency and our instant-gratification culture plays into this. Lucy is especially interested in history, and allows this to inform her work. In Part 2 (coming soon), we'll discuss genetic memories and Aroma Freedom Technique and how this can help get to the root of body-mind issues to help someone achieve their wellness goals. If you'd like to learn more about Lucy and her services, please visit www.yourhealthreborn.com or email her at lucy@yourhealthreborn.com. You can also look for her on Facebook under "Lucy Coppes." On today's episode I narrate jim mcdonald's wild cherry monograph. Here's a sampling from his monograph which you can find here: www.herbrally.com/monographs/wild-cherry When considering wild cherry, most will immediately think of its use in the address of coughs and colds; indeed, such a staple it was that when plant medicine was being replaced by chemical drugs "wild cherry" was retained as the flavor of cough syrups and drops, because, well... that's just what those things were supposed to taste like. The actual bark, though, does much more than provide flavor. Wild cherry is a respiratory relaxant/antispasmodic and, in varying degrees, an astringent tonic. A cooling sedative to lung tissue, it excels when heat and irritability undermine healthy expectoration. Now, here's where I want to paint a little word picture that really sums up wild cherry's respiratory sphere of influence perfectly; that's really what all herb writers want to do when we write these things. But, darnit, Michael Moore did it so well I can't resist quoting him: "Chokecherry or wild cherry bark is a simple sedative for cardiopulmonary excitability. If your child is lying in bed, glowing a dull infrared and breathing rapidly with a dry cough, give him/her chokecherry. That hot, vibratile pulse of blood through the lungs can be counterproductive, not nourishing the membranes as well as needed and maybe even slowing the defensive responses to a viral infection. The hectic breathing can dry out mucous membranes and harden secretions, making them little more than dried blobs adhering to the bronchial membranes---difficult enough for an adult to expectorate, very difficult for a respiratory-impatient child to handle." Yeah, Moore was awesome. For more monographs: www.herbrally.com/monographs You can visit jim online at HerbCraft.org Let us know what you thought of the episode! Thanks so much for listening. jim mcdonald offers a knowledge of herbalism that blends western folk and indigenous views with the Vitalist traditions of the 19th century, presented through story, humor and common sense. He has taught classes throughout the US, hosts the website www.herbcraft.org and has written for Plant Healer Magazine, the Journal of Ontario Herbalist Association and Llewelyn's Herbal Almanac. He is currently writing a "Great Lakes Herbal" and "Foundational Herbcraft". jim is a manic wildcrafter and medicine maker.
Dr Jessica Frazier:Gadamer saw culture, religion, and art as 'living texts' that integrate our life experience into a meaningful worldview that allows us to think, act, and create. But no worldview is ever static or finished; in 'understanding' we use bias (that of ourselves and others) as the raw material from which a new worldview is created. In this respect Gadamer shares much with Aristotelian and later Vitalist thinkers. But Gadamer also affirms that texts can act poetically as 'angels', as he puts it in his studies of Rilke and Paul Celan, gesturing toward the transcendence of that which cannot be encompassed in human thought.
