POPULARITY
The United States is in the midst of a propaganda and disinformation war, fueled by plutocrats and tech moguls like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, who have harnessed technology for profit. Meanwhile, the American empire remains unchecked, its worst nationalist and jingoistic impulses amplified by political opportunism at the highest levels. The times demand serious, accessible intellectual work, but instead, our search for grounded perspectives is surrendered to the lazy pull of social media, leaving us unable to distinguish between deeply researched work, like James Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me, and polemics like Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me. As a result, debates over issues from the origins of Hip Hop to the legacy of Jimmy Carter reflect how vulnerable our society is to cultural mythmaking disguised as truth. This obsession with simplistic narratives plays out globally, with education becoming a battleground in places like the US and Syria. Curriculum debates reveal a struggle over shaping minds and controlling knowledge—whether education serves enlightenment or power. The entire system feels as futile as ice skating uphill, an exhausting and impossible task. What does education really achieve in this context? Does it enlighten us, or complicate our understanding of a world growing more disconnected? Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of a World House seems increasingly distant, replaced by virtual realities manipulated by forces spreading influence at any cost.Meanwhile, the existential threat of global warming is no longer abstract. Weather events, like the fires ravaging Los Angeles, serve as harsh reminders of the consequences of environmental neglect. As smoke clouds our skies, we are left to ask: How do we fight the overwhelming tide of manipulation, racism, monopoly capitalism, nationalism, and climate destruction? How do we cultivate a genuine care for our shared humanity? Without this, education, climate action, and even our most cherished ideals unravel. The real test is whether we can rise above the noise—the propaganda, ego, and division—and see each other as part of a shared human struggle. Only then can we confront the true challenges of our time—education, climate change, unchecked power—and maybe, just maybe, create a future where we are more than the sum of our divisions.JOIN KNARRATIVE: https://www.knarrative.com it's the only way to get into #Knubia, where these classes areheld live with a live chat.To shop Go to:TheGlobalMajorityMore from us:Knarrative Twitter: https://twitter.com/knarrative_Knarrative Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/knarrative/In Class with Carr Twitter: https://twitter.com/inclasswithcarrSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb is one of the first women to become a rabbi in Jewish history. She's a storyteller, artist, and community educator. Listen in as she takes us on an inner pilgrimage of revolutionary nonviolence. Rabbi Lynn's experiences paint a picture of a world where diverse identities intersect, find, and strengthen one another. Her vision and experiences call toward a world of unity-in-diversity, a shared World House, as Dr King called it, where we all need one another to be who we are; a house of creativity, of love, compassion, and peace that we actively build across our divides, and is one where our hearts rejoice in healing. Her chapbook, Shomeret Shalom: Replanting the Seeds of Jewish Revolutionary Nonviolence – after October 7th is for anyone who wants to help live into this more realistic and necessary vision of the world as it can be.

Spiritual growth and maturity is knowing and walking alongside your neighbor that views the world differently. Dr. King speaks of becoming a World House. If we are to be a World House we are to know every religion and every human as a part of the human family. These famous words still ring true today as antisemitism is on the rise. In this episode, Bishop Wright has a conversation with Rabbi Peter Berg of The Temple, the oldest Jewish worshiping community in Atlanta. They discuss the history of Jews and Christians walking alongside one another in Atlanta, antisemitism and disinformation, and where we go from here. Listen in to the full conversation. - - - - - - Peter Berg became the fifth senior rabbi of The Temple since 1895 in July of 2008. He is thrilled to serve this diverse and multi-generational congregation as a spiritual leader. Rabbi Berg is passionate about Jewish learning and meaningful worship, and he is an advocate for social change.Prior to coming to The Temple, he served as rabbi of Temple Beth Or in Washington Township, New Jersey and as the Associate Rabbi of Temple Emanuel-El in Dallas, Texas. Additionally, he served Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains, New York as a rabbinic intern and at Beth El Hebrew Congregation in Alexandria, Virginia, as its Youth Director. Over the years, Rabbi Berg has spent a great deal of time working with advocacy groups on issues including but not limited to: poverty & homelessness, criminal justice reform, preventing the human trafficking of minors, civil rights, religious freedom, ending mass incarceration, gun safety, hate crimes, the environment, combatting antisemitism, and strengthening the U.S.- Israel relationship. Rabbi Berg lives in Atlanta with his wife Karen, a teacher and tutor, and their three children.

In Episode 123, Nikki Erlick joins me to discuss (spoiler-free!) her debut novel, The Measure, and share her book recommendations. A both otherworldly and of our time story, in a symbolic way rather than a literal way. The Measure will absolutely be one of my favorite books of 2022! This post contains affiliate links through which I make a small commission when you make a purchase (at no cost to you!). Highlights Nikki's inspiration for The Measure. How she incorporated Ancient Greek mythology about fate in her writing. The ways COVID-19 pandemic influenced and impacted her novel. How she decided to take her story to a place of healing, peace, and hope. Nikki's path to publication as a debut author. The comparable books and authors Nikki names for read-alikes. Nikki's process for weaving together the wide variety of societal implications into her story. Today, we're setting up Celia Aniskovich, New York City-based director and producer, well known for her co-production of How to Fix a Drug Scandal and her production of Surviving Jefferey Epstein. In 2021, she released a six-part podcast series for Wondery called the Spy Affair about Maria Butina and is working on a feature length film about disability rights. She recently read and loved How to Stop Time by Matt Haig and A Lesson Before Dying by Earnest Gaines. She considers herself a romantic, and her dream Saturday is a loungey morning with pastries and a long walk. If tattoos only lasted one year, she'd get the line “Do it for the Fat Lady” from her favorite book, Franny and Zooey, though she says she doesn't love classics. She thinks everyone should watch One Tree Hill and she is a snob about snobby people. Sometimes it feels like we're living the same day over and over again. We wake up in the same bed, eat the same breakfast, do the same tasks, and talk to the same people, just coasting along and going through the motions. Taking a vacation can offer a temporary break from the mundane; at the same time, it only reinforces the sameness of daily life. In Adrienne Celt's new novel End of the World House, Bertie and Kate are longtime best friends who are about to be separated when Kate moves to a different city. The world is enmeshed in conflict, but a ceasefire gives them a chance to head to Paris for a vacation and one last hurrah. While in Paris, a mysterious person offers them an exclusive tour of the Louvre museum, where things quickly start to go awry. The apocalypse heats up, the friends become separated, and Bertie starts reliving the same day over and over. As Bertie tries to find Kate and get things back on track, she faces an ever-changing mystery and distortions of time and reality. As we make our way out of our own pandemic time loop, Celt offers a timely and comedic story of female friendship and breaking free of the humdrum. Adrienne Celt is originally from Seattle, but now lives in Tucson, Arizona. She is the author of two previous novels: Invitation to a Bonfire and The Daughters, which won the 2015 PEN Southwest Book Award for Fiction and was named a Best Book of the Year by NPR. Adrienne is also a cartoonist, and she publishes a weekly webcomic at LoveAmongtheLampreys.com. Ruth Joffre is the author of the story collection Night Beast, which was longlisted for The Story Prize. Her fiction and poetry have appeared or are forthcoming in Kenyon Review, Lightspeed, Gulf Coast, The Masters Review, Pleiades, The Florida Review Online, Wigleaf, Baffling Magazine, and the anthologies Best Microfiction 2021 and 2022, Unfettered Hexes, and Evergreen: Grim Tales & Verses from the Gloomy Northwest. A graduate of Cornell University and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Ruth lives in Seattle, where she serves as Prose Writer-in-Residence at Hugo House. We are witnessing the rise of the multi-polar world with the decline of the dollar as a hegemonic currency, and the rise of alliances among non-Western countries toward the well-being of their people. We discuss the question of war and peace to clarify the strategic principles that define the historic role the black struggle has played in welcoming a world liberated from white supremacy. We will read Dr. Martin Luther King's speech "World House" from his book Chaos and Community to understand the importance of peace for unity, democracy, and stability for the future. https://cincinnaticathedral.com/.../The-World-House-King.pdf

How often do we think about the people that serve us? Yes, family, friends, and faith communities quickly come to mind, but what about the retail worker, the delivery driver, the teacher, the first responder, and even the person that made your clothes? Dr. King once preached of a vision for a world house. This idea is that we are all connected as siblings in the world living in different rooms of the same house. In this episode, Matt and Bishop Wright dive deeper into what it would like for us to live into the dream of a world house. Why don't more people choose it? It has taken a pandemic for some people to realize that WuHan and Milan, and London and Lawrenceville Georgia are just different rooms in the same house. Tune in for the full conversation. Before listening, read Bishop Rob Wright's For Faith.

Scott Bryan and Lauren O’Neill join Nihal Arthanayake with TV reviews – plus Ruth Bradley who stars in Guilt. We’re full of dark comedy drama fun for you this week with reviews of Guilt, End of the F** World and House Share. God's kingdom is without boundaries. The extent of his kingdom transcends the boundaries between the spiritual and natural realms, the heavenly and earthly realms, the self-imposed geographical and ideological borders we construct. In order to participate with the kingdom we must remove the boundaries that limit what God can do in and through our lives. Psalm 108:19 | Psalm 11:4 | Isaiah 66:1,2; 57:15 | Matthew 6:33
