Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 9ú lá de mí an Mheithimh, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1978 tháinig an nuacht amach go bheir an airm agus na gardaí ar drong a ghoid 400 mhíle punt ó veain I Luimneach agus beir siad orthu ó eangach. I 2000 tháinig sé amach go raibh rátaí iasacht tithíochta ag dul suas ach go mbeadh an praghas de thí ag laghdú don chéad uair I 5 bhliain. I 2001 chuaigh an fhoireann iománaíocht Tiobraid Árann chuig cluiche ceannais na Mumhan agus bhuaigh siad I gcoinne an Chláir le pointe amháin. Ghortaíodh John Leahy I rith an chluiche agus ní raibh siad cinnte ag an am an mbeadh sé chun imir arís an bhliain sin. I 2010 d'oscail bóthair nua san Aonach Urmhumhan in ainneoin na rudaí a dúirt na daoine a raibh ina chónaí ann. Ainmnithe Ormond Keep Road, bhí sé ag dul idir cúpla eastát tithíochta agus bhí sé páirteach den phlean nua a bhí ag comhairle baile an tAonach Urmhumhan. Sin Jason Donovan le Sealed With A Kiss – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1989. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1990 shroich Wilson Phillips uimhir a haon I Meiriceá lena hamhrán Hold On. Agus 25 bhliain roimhe chuaigh a athair chuig uimhir a haon lena hamhrán Help Me Rhonda. I 2007 bhí George Michael an chéad duine chun ceolchoirm a bheith acu ag an stad nua Wembley I Londain agus bhí dhá cheolchoirm aige ar a turas 25 Live Tour. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh aisteoir Michael J Fox I gCeanada I 1961 agus rugadh aisteoir Johnny Depp I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1963 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sé. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 9th of June, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1978: An armed gang who got away with £400,000 from a security van in west Limerick slipped through the huge army and garda dragnet combing 3 counties for them. 2000: home loan rates were going up but housing prices were starting to fall for the first time in 5 years. 2001 – Tipperary Senior Hurlers reached a Munster Final, they won over Clare by a single point. It came at a cost with John Leahy taken off injured and a chance of missing the final was a possibility.  2010 - A much-debated new road opened in Nenagh despite continued opposition from local residents. Dubbed the ‘Ormond Keep Road,' the new route travels between several housing estates and forms part of a plan conceived by Nenagh Town Council.  That was Jason Donovan with Sealed With A Kiss – the biggest song on this day in 1989 Onto music news on this day In 1990 Wilson Phillips went to No.1 on the US with 'Hold On'. 25 years earlier to the day Wendy and Carnies father Beach Boy Brian Wilson had been at No.1 with 'Help Me Rhonda'. 2007 George Michael became the first music artist to perform at the new Wembley Stadium in London when he played the first of two shows at the venue during his '25 Live Tour'. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – actor Michael J Fox was born in Canada in 1961 and actor Johnny Depp was born in America on this day in 1963 and this is some of the stuff he has done. Jason Donovan won the hearts of millions alongside Kylie Minogue in the Australian soap Neighbours; then his debut album was the biggest seller of 1989 and he topped the UK singles chart 4 times. In the 1990s he reinvented himself in musical theatre with acclaimed roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and now he's playing Frank-n-furter in the Rocky Horror Show tour. Its safe to say he knows a thing or two about eye catching costumes, as does Great British Sewing Bee judge and designer to the stars Patrick Grant. His book - Less - is a plea to us to stop buying so much rubbish, buy better, mend more and think about wearing woollen knit swimming costumes or at least cotton running gear. The comedian Sophie McCartney is best known for poking fun at parenting and her viral mum-parody to the tune of Ed Sheeran. But she likes a costume too - thigh high silver boots and leather shorts for her latest show One Foot In the Rave, full of advice on how best to turn 40, how to parent questioning teenagers and say a loud "no thanks" to a midlife crisis. With music from BBC Folk Award winners The Young'Uns and indie-soul singer Mychelle who's supporting Jorja Smith on tour. Presented by Stuart Maconie Produced in Salford by Olive Clancy

A Breath of Fresh Air
Angry Anderson– Australia's Most Famous Rock N Roll Outlaw

Before the name Angry Anderson was etched into the annals of Australian rock music history, before the explosive energy of Rose Tattoo dominated stages, and before the emotional hit single “Suddenly” melted hearts across the world, there was just a working-class kid from Melbourne with a lot of grit and one hell of a voice.Born Gary Stephen Anderson in 1947, in Melbourne, Angry's early years were shaped by a rough-and-tumble environment that would later fuel his gritty, growling vocal style and hard-edged lyrics. Growing up in a tough household and navigating the chaos of suburban Australia during the 50s and 60s, Angry developed a rebellious spirit early on. He wasn't just angry in name—it was an energy, a rawness, a defiance that became his brand.Angry's first brush with the music world came in the late 60s when he joined the psychedelic band Peace Power and Purity, but it wasn't long before he migrated toward something heavier, something louder, something that matched the fury he carried inside. He soon found himself fronting the Buster Brown band—a raw, blues-rock outfit that blended searing guitar riffs with Angry's sandpaper vocals.Buster Brown became known in the Australian pub rock circuit, with Anderson's stage presence quickly earning him a reputation as a firecracker performer who gave everything on stage. In 76, Angry joined a new band called Rose Tattoo. It was ferocious and unapologetically Aussie. Rose Tattoo wasn't just a rock band. They were a statement. With their bald heads, tattooed bodies, and denim-stained bravado, they embodied working-class rebellion, pub rock pride, and that dangerous edge of Aussie outlaw culture. Their debut self-titled album in 78, featuring hits like “Bad Boy for Love” and “Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw,” exploded onto the Australian charts and gained attention in Europe.Rose Tattoo were frequent support acts for AC/DC, and they earned massive respect from international bands like Guns N' Roses, who cited them as a major influence. But just when everyone thought they had Angry figured out—tattooed tough guy, snarling rock dog—he flipped the script. In 87, Angry released “Suddenly”, an emotional power ballad that no one saw coming. The song became a global phenomenon when it was used in Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan's wedding episode on the soap Neighbours, watched by millions. As the 90s rolled around, Angry became more than just a rock singer. He emerged as a tv personality. His charisma, honesty, and at times fiery opinions made him a household name in Australian media. In 92, he showed off his acting chops in the post-apocalyptic classic Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, starring alongside Mel Gibson and Tina Turner. But Angry also channeled his influence into causes he cared about. He became a passionate youth advocate, speaking out against domestic violence and drug abuse, drawing on his own difficult upbringing to connect with vulnerable communities. He even flirted with politics—running as a Senate candidate in later years.Despite countless lineup changes, personal tragedies—including the loss of many original Rose Tattoo members to cancer—and the ever-changing music landscape, Angry has kept the Rose Tattoo flame burning. He's the longest-tenured member and has fronted the band through decades of Australian and international tours. In recent years, Rose Tattoo have toured extensively across Australia and Europe, proving the band's enduring legacy. Angry, now in his 70s, continues to perform with the same raw energy that made him a legend in the first place.Angry Anderson isn't just an Australian rock icon—he's a survivor, a storyteller, and a symbol of the grit and soul that defines Australian hard rock.Discover all that makes Angry Anderson tick in this compelling episode. It's a masterclass in how a festive occasion can be layered with narrative depth.Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) - This film's exploration of various wedding styles and the emotions they evoke makes each ceremony memorable. It perfectly captures the humor, awkwardness, and tenderness of weddings, making it a classic in the romantic comedy genre.Game of Thrones - "The Red Wedding" (Season 3, Episode 9) - Perhaps one of the most shocking wedding scenes ever filmed, the Red Wedding was a pivotal moment in the series, filled with treachery and heartbreak, leaving a lasting impact on viewers and characters alike.Crazy Rich Asians (2018) - This film features a stunningly beautiful wedding scene that combines traditional elements with lavish modern details, set to a haunting cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love." It's visually captivating and emotionally charged, reflecting the film's themes of love and family expectations. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) - This wedding is a joyful, chaotic celebration of Greek culture, packed with comedic moments and touching on themes of cultural identity and familial bonds. The film combines stylish aesthetics with psychological suspense, exploring themes of empowerment, reality, and illusion. While there isn't a wedding scene central to its plot, the film's tension and mystery provide a backdrop for examining how individual desires and societal pressures can clash, much like the dynamics often present at a wedding.Switching gears, Neighbours often features weddings that are quintessential soap opera fare—full of drama, unexpected revelations, and sometimes, heart-warming moments. These episodes offer lighter, more dramatic interpretations of weddings, providing entertainment that spans generations of viewers.Whether you're a fan of lavish celebrations, dramatic twists, or the simple joy of a well-told love story, today's episode promises a fascinating look at the most memorable weddings in film and television. They were the pop stars that changed everything for the Hit Factory — and in this episode we discuss pivotal singles for Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue. In Jason's case, his remake of "Happy Together" was his final single with PWL, as he made the leap to musical theatre and a new record label. The cover version was also the first Stock and Waterman production, with Matt Aitken now out of the picture. Jason joins us for one last time to discuss the parting of ways with PWL, his third studio album, All Around The World, and how his career has developed until the present day. As for Kylie, she kicked off her fourth studio album with new jack swing single "Word Is Out" and its controversial music video. Terry Blamey, Mike Stock, Julian Gingell and Pete Day all share their memories of the Let's Get To It era of Kylie's career, while remixer Tony King talks about his Summer Breeze remix, which was released as the official single version in Australia.Support the Show.Subscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @MrMattDenbyInstagram: @chartbeatsauFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

Ten Good Reasons is the debut album by Australian pop star and actor Jason Donovan. It was released on 2 May 1989 by PWL (UK) and Mushroom Records (Australia). It became the biggest selling album in the UK that year, and yielded two solo number-one singles ("Too Many Broken Hearts" and "Sealed with a Kiss") and also features a duet with Kylie Minogue, "Especially for You", which had reached number one in January 1989. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number two, and then reached number one, staying there for four weeks. When his cover of Brian Hyland's "Sealed with a Kiss" entered the UK Singles Chart at number one, Donovan became the first Australian male to hold both UK single and UK album chart number-one positions simultaneously. In Australia, the album peaked at number five on its debut on the ARIA albums chart in June 1989, and became the 53rd highest selling album in Australia for 1989.[2] The album was reissued in 2010 as an expanded deluxe edition featuring B-sides and remixes. In 2016, the first CD of the 2010 reissue was reissued again as part of promotion for Donovan's Ten Good Reasons live shows. The title of the album is taken from a line in its opening track, "Too Many Broken Hearts": "You give me one good reason to leave me, I'll give you ten good reasons to stay."

I get to interview someone I have been a fan of for years and years today - the brilliant and iconic Helen Lederer (Ledgenderer more like. It's going to catch on). I found the clip of her on Wogan that I mention in the intro. To make it even more enthralling, it's a real pleasure to see how confused Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are by the whole thing. Forgot they were on the sofa too! Watch that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIvbOA8XLgw We talk about trying to phone Mickey Dolenz from the payphone at school; crushing on George Harrison; and dating artists. We also talk about Helen's new book "Not That I'm Bitter", which lifts the lid behind the scenes of the comedy world of the 1980s and 90s. It's been described as frank and funny and a bit mad - which I'm pleased to say was exactly how she was in person too. Although they'd achieved some hits with ballads that they had produced, Stock Aitken Waterman were better known for their uptempo pop/dance tracks, but in mid-1990, four ballads in a row emerged from the Hit Factory. Three of those were the latest releases in the jukebox era series of remakes, with Big Fun ("Hey There Lonely Girl"), Sonia ("End Of The World") and Jason Donovan ("Rhythm Of The Rain") all reinterpreting golden oldies. In the cases of those first two artists, it would be their final singles with SAW — and we discuss what became of both Big Fun and Sonia after they parted ways with PWL. Also this episode, Lonnie Gordon's long-awaited follow-up to "Happenin' All Over Again" finally hit stores, but it was a complete change in style from the song that had taken her into the UK top 5. Paul joins us to discuss his start in the entertainment industry and Yell!'s short-lived career, while we explore the external factors that impacted their success, including record company wrangling and negative press that took a particularly cruel tone. Teen heartthrobs past and then-present rubbed shoulders as Stock Aitken Waterman wrote and produced the latest hit for music industry veteran Cliff Richard and the final single was lifted from Jason Donovan's debut album, Ten Good Reasons. Matt Aitken reveals what it was like to work with an artist as well-established as Cliff and how the song they collaborated on, "I Just Don't Have The Heart", had to pass the milkman test. And while the selection of "Every Day (I Love You More)" for Jason was uncontroversial, the circumstances surrounding the first attempt at a music video for the track brought an end to director Chris Langman's work with PWL. Stylist Sharon McPhilemy, meanwhile, recalls shooting the video that did end up being released. This episode's third SAW-produced single was the follow-up to Sonia's UK chart-topping debut, but why didn't "Can't Forget You" follow "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" into the upper reaches of the British chart? Subscribe for bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/sawTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @MrMattDenbyInstagram: @chartbeatsauFacebook: Chart Beats: A Journey Through PopEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

We're back, and 2023 is already as wild as we imagined it would be. Myf and Zan catch up on what's gone down since we last banged on; notably Myf is now best friends with Jason Donovan. Zan watched Cocaine Bear and lets you know whether it's worth the ticket, and Harry Styles is continuing the strange and disgusting “tradition” of drinking from his own shoe while in Australia. Whyyyyy? Meanwhile a Tiesto remix of the White Lotus theme is not the only hot goss about our favourite series; has Johnny Knoxville let the location of series 3 slip? And we're pulling on the Big Red Boots as we watch Cunk on Earth and Fleishman Is In Trouble.
