Recorded at Øredev 2019, Fredrik talks to Azad Balabanian about virtual and augmented worlds. Azad works with photogrammetry - a process of capturing environments and objects for, among onther possibilities, use in VR and AR. He also hosts the Research VR podcast and dives deep into all aspects of virtual realities. We start with discussing photogrammetry, how it works and what its challenges currently are for those wanting to get into scanning environments on top of just photographing or filming them. Then we discuss how AR is or is not coming along and how to get a feel for what might be coming - by going to hardware conferences and piecing together what different companies are developing. AR has a lot of promise, but it is still a long way from being something you really could imagine wearing all day. There are promising initial use cases, but we are still looking for real consumer killer apps and hardware. We then gradually move over into VR, games, good experiences and how room space and motion sickness are perhaps not the big problems people imagined at the start. הנפילה הגדולה של האינטרנט בגלל טעות הקלדה, פייסבוק מלשינה על BBC למשטרה ולמה כל משחקי היריות ב-VR הם אותו דבר   הנפילה של אמאזון היא בגלל טעות הקלדה בסצינה מפורסמת בסיליקון ואלי, פתאום הסטארטאפיסטים שמו לב שמלא קבצים נמחקים משרתים של חברת פורנו והם באטרף מי פרץ להם, ואיך מתקנים את זה וכל אחד תקתק במרץ על הלפטופ שלו בשביל לפתור את התקלה שגרמה להם מלא נזק במלאן כסף. בסוף התברר שזה בגלל שהמשקיע שלהם הניח בקבוק משקה על מקלדת על כפתור ה-DELETE. האינטרנט כמובן לעג לזה שמדובר בסצינה מוגזמת ושזה לא יכול לקרות במציאות, אי אפשר סתם עם כפתור דליט למחק קבצים וגם לחזום אפשרות לבטל את המחיקה מבחוץ. אין גיבויים? אין חלון שקופץ ומבקש אישור? הרי גם כשאנחנו מוחקים סתם מסמך במחשב הוא לא נעלם מיד. אלא שמשהו לא ממש רחוק מזה מבחינת מופרכות קרה שבוע שעבר. האינטרנט האט ואתרים רבים לא עבדו למשך כמה שעות. זה קרה בגלל טעות הקלדה (הסבר). שירותים של חברות רבות מסתמכים על שרתים של אמזון, או שרתים של חברות אחרות. קריסה מרכזית באחד השרתים האלה יכולה לשתק תקשורת שלמה. זו לא פעם ראשונה שיש תקלה מרכזית באינטרנט. בנובמר 2015 היו מתקפות DDoS על שרתים מרכזיים של הרשת, וגרמו להאטה. באוקטובר 2016 הייתה התקפה דומה על שרתי DNS שגם שיתקה 80 אתרים גדולים לזמן ממושך. לא שמענו על נזקים עצומים ועל קריסה של חברות בבורסה, אבל זה לא נוח, לא נעים, ויכול לשתק פעילות של משרדים, חברות ושירותים שמבוססים על אינטרנט – בעיקר בתחומי תקשורת ובנקאות. בישראל חווינו מדי כמה שנים תקלה שמשתקת רשת סלולרית שלמה. אי אפשר להתקשר, אי אפשר לשלוח הודעות ואי אפשר להתחבר לאינטרנט. שירותי חירום והצלה נעזרים בין השאר גם ברשתות סלולריות וזה יכול להיגמר באסון במקרה הרע, או לעכב פעילות של כמעט כל מקום עבודה במקרה הטוב. אם פייסבוק נופל ל-10 דקות, והוא נופל מדי פעם, אנחנו כבר באטרף שהעולם נגמר, ומרפרשים בטירוף לראות למה יש תקלה, במקום פשוט לפנות את עצמנו למשהו אחר ולחזור לזה עוד רבע שעה, כאשר זה בטוח יסתדר. אנחנו סומכים על האינטרנט ועל תקשורת בכלל, כמו מים וחמצן ומקווים שהיא תהיה 100 אחוז זמינה. אבל המציאות מראה, שגם ב-2017, כאשר יש גיבויים על גבי גיבויים של כל דבר, לא תמיד אנחנו יכולים להיות מחוברים וכדאי אולי לאגור קופסות שימורים בשביל שנוכל לאכול מהן ואחר כך לחבר אותן בחוט ולהשתמש בהן כאמצעי תקשורת. פייסבוק נגד ה-BBC כתב של הביביסי ערך תחקיר וגילה שיש פורנו של קטינים בפייסבוק בקבוצות סודיות. הוא ניסה לדווח עליהן במנגנון הדיווח של פייסבוק, ורק 18 מהן הוסרו. הוא פנה לפייסבוק לקבל תגובה על העניין, החברה ביקשה את התמונות בשביל להבין במה מדובר, וכשהוא שלח להן את זה, כך לפי טענה של הביביסי, פייסבוק דיווחה עליו למשטרה. ברשת החברתית אמרו שהם פעלו לפי פרקטיקות מקובלות של התעשייה ושל החוק – שלפיהן עליהם לדווח על הפצת תמונות כאלה. אנשי פייסבוק לא התייחסו לשאלה למה לא מחריגים מהכלל הזה דיווח עיתונאי ופניה לתגובה, ולא באמת "הפצה של תמונות". הפרלמנט הבריטי כרגע הודיע שיחקור את פייסבוק ואת הסיפור הזה, ונכון להקלטת הפודקאסט, שם זה נעצר ואנחנו מחכים לראות לאן זה ימשיך. משחק חדש לטאץ' – למה כל המשחקים זהים למי מכם שיצא לנסות את אחת מקונסולות ה-VR, ודאי שם לב שכל משחקי היריות, למעשה כל המשחקים שבהם ישנה דמות עומדת שלא נמצאת ברכב, הם משחקים נייחים. בכך אין אפשרות לזוז ממקום למקום כפי שהיינו עושים במשחקי יריות רגילים, אלא רק דרך שיגור. משחק חדש ששוחרר בחינם לאוקולוס טאץ' הוא Robo Recall והוא בדיוק מהז'אנר הזה. הסיבה מאוד פשוטה, אם תנסו לזוז במציאות מדומה בעודכם עומדים, אתם תחושו בחילה נוראית ולא תרצו לשהות עוד רגע בעולם הווירטואלי המדובר. המלצה בדקה אהוד ממליץ על שעון מעורר Alarm clock Xtreme שלא באמת מאפשר לגנוב עוד רבע שעה מתוקה בבוקר (יש גירסה בתשלום עם יותר פיצ'רים). שחר ממליץ על ה-2 Korg NanoKontrol – בקר MIDI בצורת מיקסר עם 8 ערוצים, בקרת סולו, מיוט ורקורד לכל ערוץ, טרנספורט שלם כולל מרקרים ומקשים מוארים וכמובן, באלנס לכל ערוץ. הבקר מזוהה ברוב תוכנות ה-DAW כבקר Mackie סטנדרטי, כשישנם דרייברים אך הם לא תמיד פותרים את הבעיה. המכשיר עולה 50 דולר והוא זמין גם בארץ במחיר של כ-250 שקל.
