We start off by talking about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and its current performance in VR, which has a long way to go to become stable. I finally went through Digital Eclipse's Gold Master Series of Tetris Forever, and I loved it, but people who just want the games may not be feeling it. Sony has submitted a proposal to purchase Kadokawa Corporation, which owns many anime and manga companies, but also FromSoftware, the developers behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Steam has issued new rules about DLC and season passes which are very pro consumer but make things more difficult for publishers who can't accurately predict release dates. Itch.io now requires AI disclosure for all products, and are making every project declare if they used GenAI in the development of what they are selling. Then we talk to Rob about Pikmin Bloom.

In today's Daily Fix: Sony's PC adapter for their PSVR2 headset finally has a release date and price. The adapter will hit the market this August for around $60 USD, but you will still need provide a DisplayPort 1.4 cable. The adapter will allow PSVR2 owners to use the headset on PC just like you would other headsets like the Meta Quest and Valve Index. The PSVR2 has reportedly seen slow sales since its launch early last year, and Sony is likely hoping that opening the headset up to the PC audience will boost its profile. In other news, Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann doesn't want the studio to be just The Last of Us studio. According to an interview he did with the Los Angeles Times, Naughty Dog has several single-player games in the works, but nothing has been officially announced. Summer Game Fest 2023 took place on June 9, 2023, showing off a bunch of games including: Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is the second part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy Spider-Man 2 finally got a release date of October 20, 2023 Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a side-scrolling Prince of Persia game in a cartoony art style Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort of reboot of the first Mortal Kombat game Sonic Superstars is a new sidescrolling Sonic game featuring up to four player co-op Alan Wake 2 had a large amount of gameplay showed off Like a Dragon: Gaiden - The Man Who Erased His Name from the series formerly named "Yakuza" Star Trek Infinite is a Star Trek themed Paradox Entertainment strategy game (maybe Stellaris-like?) John Carpenter's Toxic Commando showed off some crazy zombie combat fueled by guns and vehicles The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a survival-crafting adventure game that puts you back into the mines of Moria Path of Exile 2 is the eagerly anticipated sequel to the first game in the series, Path of Exile Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 confirmed cooperative play Remnant 2 is the sequel to Remnant from the Ashes, a game that is often called "Dark Souls with guns" Immortals of Aveum is a first-person wizard combat game by Ascendant Studios and EA IGN put together a comprehensive list of everything that was announced at the show. At WWDC 2023, Apple unveiled the Apple Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset that is meant to introduce us to spacial computing. The device showed off its AR and VR capabilities with a mix of floating windows for messages, calls, and even games. It has the capability to bring the user into a fully immersive VR experience, with dynamic real-world passthrough when a person is trying to get the wearer's attention. This device seems to be taking on a different use case than what we've come to expect from Meta Quest, Valve Index, and HTC Vive - focusing on "day-to-day computing" over immersive VR gaming.

After much difficulty, Brett finally gets Half-Life: Alyx working enough to get it running. After 3-4 hours of gameplay, he's walked away very pleased. This game takes virtual reality to a whole different level. The immersion you experience from simply picking up an object to using gravity hands to interact with the world around you, it's an incredible experience. The story is great and the gameplay is well-built in a fully-fledged Half-Life story. Austin also plays Resident Evil 3 and beats it! He shares his experience and frustrations jumping through the game.In the news, there are several gameplay events that took place. One is The Last of Us Part 2 and the other was Outriders. Both games show a completely different experience but have a lot to offer in the current (and potentially next-gen) lineup of games. Xbox Series X will supposedly launch with thousands of games and Kingdom Hearts may be made into a Disney + TV show.Our discussion this week revolves around what would've been the reveal event for the PS5 this week. Due to the recent protests, Sony has decided to postpone the event so that other voices can be heard. With that said, we still speculate what the future of gaming looks like and what should Sony be doing with this reveal event whenever we do see it rescheduled. Half Life Alyx is finally here! This is the next game in the Half Life series from Valve. It's a surprising departure in the series as it's exclusively available on virtual reality. Austin plays it on the HTC Vive and has some things to share in his first impressions. Brett also finally beats Borderlands 3  and talks about his final impressions of the full game from start to finish.In the news, Sony unveils the new DualSense controller for PS5. We don't have the console reveal yet but the controller is looking pretty snazzy. We also discuss Fallout's new expansion for Fallout 76, Mech's coming to No Man's Sky and also a big partnership Epic Games announced with some big indie developers.In our discussion, Brett and Austin talk about "what makes a good shooter?" We jumped into an Early Access game this week called Risk of Rain 2. Published by Gearbox Publishing, this is the sequel to a side scrolling rogue-like shooter. Now it's in full 3D and it's incredibly fun! 4 player co-op has you picking a character and fighting through hordes of bad guys as you level up all the way to HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (yes that's a level.) We also play A Fisherman's Tale in Virtual Reality. It's a really unique and innovative game within the VR space. Blizzard screwed up again and released Warcraft 3 Reforged pretty broken. The graphics weren't as good, we were missing ladders, modders give up their IP to Blizzard and more. Hear the full story here. Viveport's subscription service Viveport Infinity can now be accessed by Valve Index owners, a rollout that comes just months after the Index's original release this June. It's not an entirely unexpected move, especially since Valve and HTC have previously worked together on VR projects, and the Index itself is compatible with some physical HTC Vive gear already. The service grants subscribers access to a library of VR games, as well as occasional discounts on other Viveport purchases. It's an unlimited-access spin on HTC's earlier Viveport subscription service that launched earlier this year, and one that follows in the footsteps of programs like Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass and EA's Origin Access. In a press release, Viveport president Rikard Steiber notes that the move is one more step toward the company's goal of making Viveport a hardware-agnostic platform.
