The "Gaps" in Star TrekThe Trek franchise continues to expand, and with more and more series and movies, fans learn more about this fantastic universe. But even after all this time, there are still stories that feel like they are "missing." The real-world reasons are obvious: Writers don't want to get into how Spock spent his time from post-Star Trek VI to the events of "Unification" (TNG) because they don't want to disrupt any future stories. Or else they just never got to telling the events of the Romulan War because "Enterprise" got cancelled. The trio takes this opportunity to explore the "untold" stories of the Trek franchise that deserve further investigation. From the voyages of the Enterprise-B to the Enterprise-E's missions during the Dominion War, from the history of the many lives of the Dax symbiont to the origin of the Borg, join us as we ask, "hey ... what happened?"

The Salty Nerds take a look at Star Trek TOS - Balance of Terror! This is the episode of the Original Series where the Romulans are introduced into the Star Trek universe and Captain Kirk matches wits with the Romulan commander in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse that is reminiscent of World War 2 submarine battles. William Shatner delivers one of his best performances as James T. Kirk in this episode, and Leonard Nimoy as Spock has to deal with a lot of bigotry against Vulcans. This is one of Alex's and Kadish's favorite Star Trek episodes because it reminds them of their favorite submarine movies like The Hunt For Red October and Run Silent Run Deep. We also get a lot of great Star Trek Lore-Building in this episode as we're introduced to the Neutral Zone and the Romulan War.If you enjoy Star Trek and want access to the FULL retrospective review of our take on Balance Of Terror, be sure to check out our members area where you not only get access to this review, but many other exclusive episodes that cover shows like Foundation, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Doctor Who, Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, Orphan Black, Eureka, and more! "These Are the Voyages..." Rewrite.   Though Rick Berman described the series finale of Star Trek: Enterprise as a "valentine to the fans", many viewers didn't see it as such. To this day, few fans of the series feel that it was a fitting end to the series, and most think the cast deserved better than appearing only as holograms. But was there anything salvageable in the episode? Could it be, for lack of a better word, fixed? In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Brandi Jackola, and special guest Bruce Gibson from Literary Treks, attempt to rewrite "These Are the Voyages...". Tommy Kraft and Actors Look Back. Since it's public launch in February 2016, Star Trek Horizon has become a bigger hit than anyone—especially creator Tommy Kraft—ever expected. The fan film that serves as a follow-up to Enterprise delivers the Romulan War storyline that fans were hoping for from the show's fifth season. Centered on the crew of the USS Discovery NX-04, Horizon is an example of how to make the most of limited resources to create a product that can holds its own against studio productions. In this episode of Continuing Mission, host Dennis Castello is joined by Tommy as well as two of the stars of Horizon—Paul Lang, who plays Captain Harrison Hawke, and Ryan Webber, who plays Commander Francis Brookes—for an in-depth discussion about the decisions made in the writing, casting, directing, and look of the film. Literary Treks: A Star Trek Books and Comics Podcast

The Good That Men Do. When the final episode of Star Trek: Enterprise aired, it was promoted as a “valentine” to the fans. However, it’s reception left much to be desired. Featuring a nonsensical plot and laughable villains, “These Are the Voyages” was not well-loved. Therefore, when it was announced that an Enterprise “relaunch” story would undo some of the worst parts of that episode, many Enterprise fans rejoiced! In this episode of Literary Treks hosts Matthew Rushing and Dan Gunther talk the Enterprise novel The Good That Men Do. We discuss the last episode of Enterprise, the audacity to rewrite canon, the set up, bringing Trip back, lack of vision, prequels are interesting, a tight story, swiss cheese, head canon, Trip and T’Pol, foundation of the Romulan War and our ratings. What if Future Guy was a Romulan agent? The Temporal Cold War was a promising, yet inconsistent storytelling device throughout the four seasons of Enterprise. Despite its many narrative challenges, the Temporal Cold War did provide the series with a few interesting world-building elements, in particular - the agents of the Temporal Accords; pawns of a greater and more far reaching endgame. So we have circled back to the Future Guy, trying to pierce his veil of mystery and that of the faction or agency for which he served. (cough) Tal'Shiar (cough) During 2009's Star Trek VegasCon, former Enterprise show runners Manny Coto and Brannon Braga stated that Future Guy was trending towards being a Romulan agent because this would have created an opportunity to tie him into the famed Romulan War, instigating certain events in Archer's time. Years later, Braga tweeted in 2012, that Future Guy was supposed to be Archer all along - trying to right his own wrongs when he was Captain of the NX-01! Zeus 3D Printer is Replicator and Transporter Rolled Into One We already have PADDs, communicators, and Velcro (remember it actually came from Vulcan!), and now two more Star Trek technologies may be in our near future—the replicator and transporter. At least they are if AIO Robotics succeeds in its vision. The new Zeus 3D printer combines both of these technologies—admittedly on a less magical level—by allowing users to scan an object, 3D print a replica, and fax that object to others. The Romulan War. One of the most momentous conflicts in Federation history is also one of the most mysterious ones—at least for fandom. Of course Starfleet itself knows what happened, but the writers didn't give us a lot to work with over the years. First introduced in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror," the Earth-Romulan War is the basis for centuries of animosity between these two powers. The details remained elusive and over the years bits and pieces came out through the various spinoff series, books, comics, and fan projects. Tommy Kraft and Marc Bowers talk Star Trek: Horizon. We know a great deal about the 23rd and 24th centuries, but our exploration of the 22nd was unfortunately cut short. The cancellation of Enterprise not only left behind a number of loose threads from the series, but also key moments in Star Trek history that a prequel should have explored. Almost ten years after Enterprise left television, the feature-length film Star Trek: Horizon aims to close one of those gaps by telling the story of the famous Earth-Romulan War. Made by fans in love with Star Trek and set during the Enterprise time period, Horizon centers on The Coalition of Planets, a young alliance of worlds led by Earth, that is at war with the Romulan Empire. The Sound of Her Voice. War changes people. And that's no different whether you're in the 21st century or the 24th. Just before DS9 kicked into high gear for its final season, our crew took a quiet moment to reflect in “The Sound of Her Voice,” the penultimate episode of Season Six. It's a unique take on a bottle show that reveals a great deal about the station's crew. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Matthew Rushing, Michael Fisher, and Von Glitshka to discuss the hours spent by the Defiant crew talking to Captain Lisa Cusack, what the conversations tell us about how life changes and the struggle to move on, and the twist of time that allows our heroes to step back—at least for a moment— to a place where the Dominion War had yet to shatter the peace. In our news segment we look at the pros and cons of Roberto Orci's bid to direct Star Trek 2016, head into fluidic space or Star Trek Online's ninth season, wrap up Enterprise's Blu-ray release, and find out about the independent film Star Trek: Horizon, which is set in the Enterprise time period and tells the story of the Romulan War.

TNG Season Two. After completing a successful first season The Next Generation continued to find its identity in season two despite a number of potential setbacks. The departure of Gates McFadden as Dr. Crusher, a writers strike in Hollywood, and continuing struggles to emerge from the shadow of TOS put this new Star Trek series to the test. In this episode of The Ready Room we discuss the good and the bad of TNG's second season, and how it set up the greatness to come. In news we look at the Comikaze Expo, new names added to the roster for Star Trek Las Vegas 2012, Star Trek: The Exhibition at the St. Louis Science Center, Star Trek's spookiest moments, and the state of Star Trek fiction and the Enterprise novels about the Romulan War.
