In this episode - one week before the federal election - we talk to Kos Samaras. Samaras had a long career as a Labor strategist - particularly in running campaigns for the Victorian party - before founding the political consultancy firm RedBridge in 2020. He's one of the big thinkers in Australian politics, who grew up in a blue collar Labor family, and is now sometimes critical of Labor for what he sees as the neglect of its heartland voters. Samaras is one of many voices featured in this week's cover story - Battle for the battlers - about the challenges facing social democratic parties around the world (including Australia), written by the host of our conversation today, Good Weekend senior writer Gay Alcorn.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The aftershocks of the European elections are still being felt in Greece, as none of the big three parties reached their stated goals. The country's attention has turned to the center left, particularly PASOK, where several party officials are calling for a leadership change. At the same time, there are growing internal discussions in PASOK and SYRIZA regarding forming a coalition. Political scientist and expert Panos Koliastasis joins Thanos Davelis to look at the crisis brewing in Greece's center left, and break down what it means for Greece's political scene.Panos Koliastasis is an adjunct lecturer in politics at the Hellenic Open University, and the author of the book "Permanent campaigning in Greece in times of crisis: the Samaras, Tsipras and Mitsotakis premierships".You can read the articles we discuss on our podcast here:Election aftershocks dominate the agenda, focus on the center-leftSome 83% of SYRIZA and PASOK voters in favour of left-wing coalition, poll findsPASOK must give voice to the party baseGreek island searches for missing tourists intensify amid hiking deathsUS tourist found dead on Greek island during heatwaveGreece to set up its first sovereign wealth fund, reform posting, bus services
The memoirs of former German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble were recently released in Germany. As expected, Greece features heavily. All the key moments of the crisis and its main actors are sketched in his memoirs, from the times Grexit was genuinely on the table, to his dealings with prime ministers Papandreou, Samaras, and Tsipras, and finance ministers Papaconstantinou, Venizelos, and Varoufakis. Xenia Kounalaki, a journalist and weekly columnist at Kathimerini, which acquired exclusive rights of publishing excerpts from the book in Greek, joins Thanos Davelis for an inside look into the Greek financial crisis through the lens of one of its main protagonists. Trvalo to prý deset let. Celý rozhovor sledujte na www.EchoPrime.cz

With the second round of local elections set to take place on Sunday, ruling New Democracy, which posted a sweeping victory in the first round last week, is looking to build on this momentum to cement its dominance over Greece's political scene. At the same time, the main opposition SYRIZA seems to be caught in a popularity rut, while Stefanos Kasselakis, its newly elected leader, is facing unrest within the party. On Sunday Greeks will head to the polls for a second time in just over a month. With the election just days away, New Democracy is seeking the crucial 40% threshold that would secure a safe outright majority to form a single-party government. Undecided voters are expected to play a key role in Greece's national elections on May 21 as their percentage remains high - above 16 percent according to the latest polls. The new polls also show that the possibility of calling new elections remains strong, as the chances of polls leading to a single-party government or the formation of a coalition government seem remote. Poslechněte si rozhovor s majitelem a budovatelem jednoho z největších českých lovebrandů, s Jannisem Samarasem, majitelem Kofoly a řady dalších značek. Victorians go to the polls on November 26, with the Andrews government seeking a third term. Labor is the clear favourite, but it is under pressure in a number of seats. The premier is a polarising figure, especially (although not only) as a result of the trials Melburnians endured with the prolonged harsh lockdowns during COVID. Victoria will be a fresh test of what we saw in the federal poll – the disillusionment of many voters with the major parties.

Poté, co ve velkém byznysu přestal vidět smysl a přidanou hodnotu, posunul svou životní filosofii k většímu sepětí s přírodou a směrným směrem posunul i nápojářský gigant. Firma pořídila certifikované biolokality a znovu začala pěstovat, ručně sbírat a vykupovat bylinky. Vodní zdroje chrání včely a moderním technologiím při stáčení pomáhá i klasická hudba Mozarta.Finanční dopad to nemělo žádný. Loni firma rostla o 9 procent, vykázala EBITDA (zisk před započtením úroků, daní a odpisů, pozn. red.) 1,12 miliardy korun a pro letošek plánuje podobná čísla. Agenda.
Cory Samaras Griffeth was a defender with the quickest hands and the hardest check, and often, the sharpest tongue. The self-proclaimed original bad girl of the Princeton Women's Lacrosse program, Cory challenged Chris to her limits many, many, many times. But Chris held firm, sometimes protecting the team from Cory, and sometimes protecting Cory from herself.
